The professor agreed with his comment on the power of good professors and Jack had expected him to agree with it, so he didn’t really comment much further. He never understood why people went into teaching if they weren’t going to be passionate about the subjects that they were teaching. Lucas asked Jack what he is doing now to occupy his time and Jack shook his head a little. It was kind of silly, but it was still work he enjoyed doing. “I’m working at a sheep ranch in England, near Alnwick.” he admitted. “Just as a farmhand. Something to pass the time and make a little money so I'm not just stuck here twiddling my thumbs while I wait.” he was doing a lot of shearing recently, and all the bending over was hard on his back. But it was good, honest work.

In Lucas' live plan, he hadn't intended to go into teaching, the position had just popped up in his radar, and others around him thought that he would do great. So he thought that he would apply, mostly for fun. He had not formal teaching experience, but his extensive knowledge of magical creates had to have impressed them.
The conversation shifted as Jack mentioned what he was doing while stick in the area. It probably wasn't hard to guess what Lucas was doing while stuck here. He was doing what he did during the year, minus the teaching. What Jack said that he was doing didn't seem too far from what he would be doing if he went home. Lucas nodded "I hear that. Relaxing is fun, but there's nothing like working with animals. Magical or not." He, personally, didn't see the appeal of working with regular animals that muggles worked with every day, but to each their own.

Jack nodded when Lucas added that working with animals was nice. It was nice. Jack liked tending to the herd of sheep and he liked the work that he did - but he didn’t do it because he liked it. He did it because he needed a paycheck and a place to live until he could get home. His parents didn’t mind paying for him when he was a kid, but he wasn’t anymore. He was an adult. Graduated and out of school. And even though it had only been a few weeks - the reality of being an adult and having to take care of himself now in this forign land had hit him hard. “I never planned on staying here after graduation - gotta make ends meet somehow.” he shrugged. It wasn’t glamorous. And he knew the lifestyle didn’t appeal to many magical folk, but it was his roots, and it was what he knew. “I had given some thought to staying in the UK and traveling Europe indefinitely…” he mused. “But now that I’m forced to be here - it’s pretty obvious I want to get back to kentucky. I’m not the traveling sort.” he took another drink.

Lucas grew up around animals. When he was young, he was cleaning up after magical creatures bigger than he was, and he was helping prep food for them. It didn't take too long for him to convince his parents to let him start working directly with them. “I never planned on staying here after graduation - gotta make ends meet somehow.” He understood that. He was just happy that he was able to stay on at the castle, and help keep up the grounds during the summer. The kid didn't seem to happy with where he was at. And Lucas could only smile when he mentioned that he wasn't the traveling type. Lucas defiantly couldn't understand that. He had made his way around for sure. "Well, if you ever need to get away, or take a break from where you are at, your welcome to come and visit me. I'm just up at the castle, in the hut on the grounds." They obviously had different ideas of fun, but Lucas did feel some connection, and if he could help this young man in any way, he'd be willing. Plus, sometimes it got lonely up there, inviting someone to drop in any time wasn't a bad idea.

Lucas listened as Jack explained the inner workings of his mind over the past few weeks and then offered that if he needed an escape, he could come visit him at the castle grounds in the little hut. Of course Jack knew where the teacher lived, in his hut. But he had never been inside of it. He had walked nearby with his friends while exploring the grounds, and he thought that it was a cute little dwelling. “Yeah, sure man, maybe i’ll take you up on that sometime.” he agreed with a casual nod. He had finished his food by this time, having been hungry when it came out. And was just about ready to go. Jack wasn’t someone who liked to sit around after he was done. He had other things he could be doing on the farm, or, he could even just be resting at home. “I should get on my way, it was nice to meet you.” he admitted, hoping that he wasn’t seeming rude by standing up and pulling on his coat.

“Yeah, sure man, maybe i’ll take you up on that sometime.” Lucas smiled and nodded. He liked the idea of having someone coming by. It wasn't very regular during the school year, but kids with a love for magical creates all seemed to find their way down there at some point. Not, with the castle just about empty, there wasn't a chance. "I look forward to it" Finishing the last bit of his food, the young man said his farewell. "Pleasure to meet you too Jack." He said good buy as he got up himself.
It was a nice conversation, and something that Lucas realized that he was missing. He wanted more contact, and communication. But as walked outside, and started up the path back to the Hogwarts grounds, he heard a sweet song, and lifted his arm to receive Odin, the red phoenix
