Chrissy pointed out that Lee sounded so British using the word muggle instead of the term No-maj. She laughed herself, she hadn’t even realized that she had said it. It was so annoying always having to correct herself in front of her peers that she supposed she had just adopted the term after so long. She had been here for almost 6 months now - with no end in sight. But Lee had grown up here until she was 8, so part of it was easy to re-adjust to. Though any accent she had was long lost. But Lee nodded. “They fax it, we sign it, the MACUSA representative here signs it as a witness, and we fax it back to be filed.” she explained. “And then it’s official. As soon as we all three sign it.” she agreed.

May Hogsmeade Weekend, 2025 Lee's explanation was straightforward enough. "They fax it, we sign it, the MACUSA representative here signs it as a witness, and we fax it back to be filed."
"Okay. Got it," Chrissy confirmed. She hadn't ever imagined that it would be so quick—so easy—for her life to change just like that. It hadn't been completely painless for her in the long term, but there wasn't anything overly complicated about the process of being adopted, administratively speaking.
Chrissy looked down at the charm bracelet again. "And…um, I know you said that I don't have to change my name," she considered, her voice quieter, "but do you want me to?" Would it be weird? She didn't want to do it if Lee didn't want her to, but, if there was an expectation that she would become a Pond officially…

Chrissy was full of questions and Lee didn’t blame her, there was a lot to talk about. She hadn’t expected that they would talk about it all in one day, she knew that things would just fall into place when they were meant to, or when they were brought up, but if Chrissy wanted to talk about them, Lee would welcome the conversation. Chrissy asked if Lee wanted her to change her name, even though she had said that she didn’t have to. Lee didn’t really know what to say. “I don’t know. Your parents were great people, and I don’t want you to feel like I’m trying to replace them or take you away from the family that you had with them. So if you want to keep your last name to honor them, that’s completely alright with me. But if you want to change your name, we’d be honored to have you as a Pond.” she explained, hoping that she was making any sense at all.

May Hogsmeade Weekend, 2025 "I don’t know," Lee answered her, which wasn't what Chrissy had expected to hear at all. "Your parents were great people, and I don’t want you to feel like I’m trying to replace them or take you away from the family that you had with them," she continued. The fact that Lee had said this despite never having known her parents at all made Chrissy tear up again as she listened to the rest of what Lee had to say. "So if you want to keep your last name to honor them, that’s completely alright with me. But if you want to change your name, we’d be honored to have you as a Pond."
She didn't feel like Lee was trying to replace her parents, though she had struggled with the idea of adoption at first. Chrissy knew that Lee couldn't bring her parents back, but she knew that they would have found some comfort in knowing that she had found someone like Lee to take care of her. She didn't have to be the only one looking out for her interests, which is how things had felt on occasion.
"I—I don't mind," Chrissy replied, watching Lee. "I mean, my mom and dad would've loved you, and I don't think they'd be upset if I changed my last name to Pond. It's not like I'm going to forget them, and… I kinda like the idea of a fresh start."

Lee had honestly not given much thought to Chrissy changing her name, she hadn’t expected her to want to do it, but she also just hadn’t given a lot of thought to a lot of things that she knew she’d have to. There was more to think about than she had even thought about yet. “Okay, if that’s something you want, I can make that happen too.” Lee agreed with a smile. She was sure that it wouldn’t be too hard to file those forms at the same time as the formal adoption papers. She had already petitioned the MACUSA for the adoption and was approved, so there was really nothing in their way except those formal forms.

May Hogsmeade Weekend, 2025 If that was what she wanted, Lee replied, then she could make that happen, too.
"Yeah," Chrissy nodded. Changing her surname didn't make her any less her parents' daughter, at least in her mind. It would only solidify that she was a Pond—more than just the foster kid that a MACUSA investigator had brought with her to London. "I mean, I already have the charm now," she smiled. And it wasn't as though most of the Hogwarts kids even knew her name; she doubted most of them even paid that much attention. Besides, explaining her change of name to her teachers, if they asked, wouldn't be so bad, and it would happen before her OWLs—assuming she was still at Hogwarts and not back at Ilvermorny. "'Chrysanthemum Pond' sounds okay, right?" she checked.

Chrissy said her new full name out loud and then asked if it sounded okay. “It definitely flows well. And I think it suits you.” she agreed. Lee had never really expected to be a mother, and she didn’t really ever feel like a maternal person, yet here she was, and she was okay with it. It would be an adjustment and that was okay. “Just don’t expect me to be the perfect mom right away - this will all be new to both of us.” she said, in a mostly teasing way. She knew Chrissy wasn’t expecting the perfect parent, but it was nice that they were their own little family now. She’d have to report back to Rory that it was going to be official.
