Saturday wished he could be back in Sunny, Beverly Hills, but if he couldn’t, a penthouse in London was good enough. At least it offered good views of the city, and it was sunny enough, most days. Nice enough to want to sit outside at least on the little patio they had. There was a nice covered area with a table and seating, but there was also a few sun chairs on the patio that reclined enough to be able to lay back if they wanted to. Those were Saturday’s favorites when the sun was out. He missed the warmth of Southern California in the summer. But since they were stuck here, he decided to take what he could get and try to make the most of the situation. He wasn’t a super disagreeable person anyway, he could make the most of just about any situation.
Saturday sat out in the sun on that warm, July day, with a joint in his ashtray on the little table next to the sun chairs. He had some soft, acoustic music playing from his phone to the wireless speaker on the table as well, and he was happy to be chilling there with his journal spread across his lap. He wasn’t writing about much of anything, he was just jotting down random thoughts that came to his head: Character ideas, story plots, beautiful pieces of prose that he wasn’t sure he’d ever be able to use, but wanted to have written down anyway, rants about his siblings, musings about girls he had an eye on, etc.

▲ July 2025 A month into quarantine and Charlie was already beyond bored with the ordeal. Sure, she could go out and do whatever she wanted without parental supervision for the first time in her life, but even that got tiring after a while. Exploring London, the no-maj side, would only satiate her interests for so long before becoming monotonous. Adventuring outside of the city was certainly allowed (which is where she could really check out the English countryside), but then came the explanations for why she was booking the chauffer for hundreds of miles of gas and paid hours. Taking a train or a cab wasn’t worth it and would push her in with the general public, which was sort of what she didn’t want to do when going about her own thing. The only positive of the pent house purchased by her mother was that it had a rooftop patio – a way to escape the confines of her room and seven siblings for a breath of fresh air at least a few times a day. Usually someone was always perched up there, doing their own thing as well, but that was better than the whole Weekly gang in one place. Today was no different, and proceeding onto the patio had Charlie’s nose immediately assaulted by a blast of marijuana smoke. It was obviously Saturday. Where weed was, so was he. Lounging in the rare London sun seemed to be his choice of location today, and Charlie made her way over to the chair next to his and planted herself. “How do you do it?” she asked, quickly realizing that she gave zero explanation for her question. “Relax like this, I mean. Because, like, we’re stuck here until school starts and you somehow don’t have a care in the world.” But that was also how he always was, right? Being here or there had never seemed to bother her brother, as far as Charlie could tell. Over the last month of almost going stir crazy, she was starting to wonder what the best way to not care and kick back was. Normally it would be hanging out with her snake, but he was still back in California. Here, she had nothing. @saturday ● 369 ● How Long by Roo Panes MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Saturday might have heard the door open and his sister come out into the patio with him, but it was still kind of a surprise when she was standing next to him and asking him how he did it. He wasn’t sure what she was talking about, but then she clarified that she couldn’t understand how he was so calm when they were stuck here. She didn’t understand how he seemed like he didn’t have a care in the world. “Practice?” he suggested with a laugh. It just wasn’t a part of his personality to be worried about things that were out of his control - but he knew that not all of his siblings shared that ideology.
He picked up his joint and took another hit off of it before replying again. “The way that I see it - there’s nothing we can do about it. Except trying to sneak on a boat off of this island country, we’ve got to stay. So, why worry about it? We were just gonna be home, sitting around all summer anyway - we can do that here too.” of course, their parents weren’t here, and that was kind of stressful on a lot of siblings. But Saturday still knew there was nothing that could be done about it.

▲ Practice. Right. That made sense, in a way. Saturday was always lazing about and looking like he was doing next to nothing. Charlie knew that wasn’t true, because even right now it seemed like he was working on something. Which was a lot more than she could say about herself. Her siblings were practically immune to her ramblings on nature and the occult by this point, and with all of the other Ilvermorny students locked away at some orphanage, she could barely even see her few friends to annoy them. Her eyes tracked as he went for the join that was propped up on the ashtray. She had forgotten about it in those brief seconds, which was an odd thing to forget since Saturday was always puffing away on something. Continuing to watch his hand as he explained his reasoning for being able to relax, Charlie nodded her head to show that she understood. It seemed more like he was perpetually high and that was why he never cared too much about anything other than his own things. Which was honestly a pretty good thing to be doing right about now. At least they were all together and none of them were sick yet. “Does that help at all?” she asked, motioning with her head at the joint. Despite Saturday’s persistent smoking around her, she had never tried it herself. But if that was part of his supposed ‘practice’, it definitely worked. @saturday ● 242 ● My Narrow Road by Roo Panes MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Saturday wasn’t sure if Charlie was really buying his answer to just relax. And she asked if the joint had anything to do with how calm he was and he nodded, letting out a puff of smoke and laughing a little as he did. “Yeah honestly it’s all this, the rest of that was total bull shit.” he admitted. He ashed the joint into his ashtray, clearing a fresh edge for easier use and then raised his hand up, offering it to his sister. He wasn’t sure if she would accept it. Some of his siblings were willing to almost always, some weren’t so into it, and some were kind of touch and go depending on the situation presented to them. And Saturday was never the type to pressure anyone into smoking with him, but he was always generous with his stash. “It would help you relax.” he told her.

▲ It wasn’t that she thought Saturday was incapable of worrying and experiencing boredom, but the fact that he admitted he was joking about his previous comment fell more in line with the version Charlie always saw. She wished she could be the same way, to a degree, but someone in the family had to worry about their current state of affairs. Sure, they had a freaking penthouse to themselves that was endlessly stocked with whatever food and entertainment they wanted, but there were underlying concerns Charlie still had about being physically stuck in the UK. And she desperately wanted to see her snake again. Two years away was two years too long. She also didn’t trust her dear mother to properly feed poor Alfonso, so that job had been delegated to her father despite his own grumblings. If they didn’t want to take care of the snake while she was at school, then they shouldn’t have let her get it in the first place. It was as simple as that. Briefly lost in her own thoughts and worries, Charlie was only pulled out of them when she saw Saturday hold up the joint to her. “You know best, I guess,” she shrugged as she plucked it from his fingers gingerly. She had seen him smoke it enough to know how to go about it, but the inhaling process was completely foreign to her. Charlie immediately choked on it, a sputtering cough erupting from her throat. She held her hand up to assure her brother that she was fine as the wheeze tapered off, then giving it another good inhale. There was still a cough as she exhaled, but it definitely went smoother than the first attempt. “Is it like, immediate?” she asked as she held the joint out for Saturday to take back. @saturday ● 303 ● Let The Flames Begin by Paramore MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

A part of Saturday hadn’t expected Charlie to want to take the joint. She was one of the more responsible of the Weekly children, but he was glad when she did take the joint and held it to her lips. At first she coughed and held up her hand to say that she was okay. He nodded, he wasn’t really worried. He knew how this sort of thing went. Being who he was and now where they all were, a lot of students at Hogwarts didn’t seem to smoke. Though, he didn’t really start to smoke until he was 16, but after he found it and found how much it helped him, he never saw himself giving it up. But he did spend a lot of time introducing others to the herb. He usually warned about the cough in advance. But his sister had likely heard him in his room, coughing up a lung when he took too big of a hit or held it in for too long.
She handed it back to him after a second hit and asked if it was immediate. He shrugged. “Mostly, coughing helps it take effect faster to don’t try to hold it in.” he added. “Sometimes it can take a few minutes. It helps if you relax.” he ashed his joint and then took another hit, blowing the smoke away from his sister, respectfully.

▲ Charlie didn’t exactly understand how coughing made it work faster, but Saturday was the expert here. Second guessing his knowledge on anything that could be smoked seemed like it would be a foolish thing to do. He was basically the Dalai Lama of weed after all. Charlie was positive that she didn’t know another soul that was as invested in the lifestyle as Saturday was, and that was saying a lot considering they spent most of their free time in California. And who was she to question his knowledge on the plant anyways? It would be like if he debated her on how to accurately palm read, or that the tea leaves were actually stating a different future. They both had their respective fields of study, and Saturday simply partook in his in a more religious manner. He added that it could take a few minutes to take effect, and she simply nodded her head and leaned back in her chair. At least the sun was sort of out today. Being cooped up all the time really took its toll, even if they could technically move about more now. “Got anything fun planned for the rest of the summer? Or is this it?” Charlie asked, waving her hand at him as he took another hit of his joint. If it made him as relaxed as he kept saying it did, it couldn’t be all that bad. Especially these days. “I wish constrictor snakes were legal here,” she said airily, a sudden yawn coming on. “I miss Alfonso…” Her reticulated python had been left in their mother’s care, which could literally mean anything. She wasn’t exactly a fan of snakes, but each of the Weeklys seemed to get away with whatever they enjoyed most in life. Saturday with his weed, Charlie with her snake. “Hope she remembered to feed him this week.”@saturday ● 311 ● Betrayer by Trivium MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

To be fair, saturday didn’t understand the science behind the coughing thing either, but he knew it worked, he had coughed enough during his time to be able to feel the difference. Though he hardly coughed anymore, at least, not like his siblings did when he gave them hits off his joints. But he had built up quite an immunity to the substance over the past year that he had been using it. She relaxed in the chair and Saturday set the joint in the ashtray for now on the table between their two chairs. “This is it. As long as we’re here with nothing else to do, I’m just gonna make the most of it and lounge around out here and pretend that I’m home laying by the pool, in the heat.” maybe he could find a heat spell to cast around the balcony so it would feel like they were really back on the west coast.
He nodded when she told him that she missed her pet snake. “He’s a cool dude, i’m sure he’s doing alright. Hopefully we’ll be back there soon. I’d rather not do another year of school in England.” sure, the weather at Ilvermorny wasn’t much different, but at least he was in his own country and his sister could have her snake with her at school. He couldn’t imagine not being able to have his little hamster buddy. He’d be so sad.

▲ “God, I miss the pool…” Charlie groaned, having forgotten about it, since there wasn’t an equivalent to it in their penthouse. Saturday had pretty sound reasoning though, when it came to that. Nothing beat the west coast weather, and now they were stuck with whatever this was. The London air was grimy, compared to where their home was in LA. This was far from being ideal, even if the housing arrangement was pretty sweet. “You think we could clear out one of the bedrooms and turn it into a pool? I wouldn’t mind offering mine up for it.” Though it would never be approved by their parents. Charlie didn’t even know of any spells that could do that, other than flooding the whole room and figuring out a way to keep it from leaking. That sounded like a recipe for more than one disaster. Suffering through the summer wouldn’t kill her. Probably. Charlie nodded her head in agreement about going home instead of staying here. Obviously that meant letting a few people she liked go, for the time being. But it wasn’t like she couldn’t visit whenever she wanted to. Hogwarts was just so blah compared to Ilvermorny. She wanted her old dorm bed, not the ridiculously outlandish ones that Hufflepuff seemed to have. “Yeah, like what’s the deal with us being stuck in the basement? That totally messes with people’s health because they aren’t getting enough sun down there.” She rolled her eyes hard, remembering the first day they arrived at the castle, and were then quickly ushered underground while half of their siblings got to live like kings and queens in their respective towers. “The only reason they won’t let us go back is if the borders don’t open in time, or if they haven’t repaired the school yet. And I don’t see how it could take them this long to fix it.”@saturday ● 315 ● Turn Out The Lights by Julien Baker MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0
