June 14th 2025
It was no secret that Saturday was a snacky guy. He loved food and he loved the physical act of eating. So while he was already being dragged around the alley by his sister, he felt his stomach grumble and knew the best course of action was to get something now so that he wouldn’t get hangry if he waited until she was ready to go home. So he stepped into the ice cream parlor, which wasn’t too busy on this cloudy, June day. He had got through the full moon this month almost 4 days ago now and today was the first day he had felt good enough to go out since. So he wasn’t quite as high today as he had been for the past few days. He waited in line and ordered his ice cream.

It was easy enough convincing Papa to let the twins go to London – as it had only just been their 15th birthday, and they’d been unable to go abroad this summer, it had only been a matter of catching their father at a slightly inconvenient moment where he would have said yes to just about anything. Going to Diagon Alley was the strategic move to make – maximum shopping potential in a condensed area and with only limited time. Aura had even made an organized list, ranging from book titles she was hunting for at the book store to new accessories she was keen on trying. The twins moved as a unit to navigate the light crowds and avoid the most amount of people possible at each location.
They were on the way to one of the last stops of the day when they passed Fortescue’s. Aura’s gaze turned to linger on some of the visibly delicious ice cream concoctions before making a split-second decision. She tapped Silver’s shoulder to let him know she’d be gone for a few minutes before she redirected to buy them some ice creams. The line wasn’t terrible, but still lengthy enough that Aura removed the carefully folded list from her pocket to contemplate what she hadn’t yet found (and of course, she’d handed off her bags to Silver earlier because ice cream required full maneuverability, obviously).
She wasn’t paying careful attention, so when it seemed the guy in front of her shifted Aura moved forward automatically before running into his back. As automatic as she’d moved forward, she took a step back. “My bad,” she offered vaguely, eyes still glued to her parchment.

Saturday was in line, debating back and forth between a caramel pumpkin flavor, and a regular strawberry flavor, and when he stepped forward to fill the spot ahead of him as another got called up to the till, the person behind him stepped a little too far forward and bumped into him. She offered a sort of apology, but that was even enough for Saturday He wasn’t really someone who needed an apology. He understood that things happened and rarely did any things like this bother him. “Hey no worries, it’s easy to get excited about ice cream.” he smiled, even though he knew that she probably hadn’t stepped too far forward out of excitement. She seemed to be distracted in her list, likely of school supplies to buy. Saturday wasn't going to be doing any of that. He still planned on being back in Los Angeles before school started, he’d get all of his supplies then.

Her apology could be considered half-hearted at best, but it was rather purposefully so. Aura just…didn’t want to talk to anybody right now. Maybe if you caught her in a certain mood, she could muster up the brainpower to talk through something. But she’d much rather dedicate that mental space to challenging academia or some sort of activity that produced clear, tangible benefits.
So she was rather surprised to hear a voice responding back to her apology, and even one that sounded vaguely familiar. Her eyes darted up from her list of (admittedly) mostly books to see the guy in front of her looking back. She was sure she’d seen him around Hogwarts before, although they most certainly were not in the same year – she’d made it a point to learn about almost all the other incoming 5th years.
“Er…yeah. Their coconut chocolate chip is terrific.” Aura wasn’t a very excitable person – maybe during Quidditch or exams, but most of the time she was rather reserved. Her tone reflected that now, quiet and somewhat flat. Her eyes narrowed slightly…she was sure she knew him, or knew of him. She didn’t really believe in beating around the bush, so she pointedly asked, “do I know you?”

The girl behind him spoke back, which he wasn’t really expecting, he had just been trying to add that he wasn’t worried about having been bumped into. But she added that one of their flavors was terrific, and then upon further examination of him, asked him if she knew him. He shrugged. He wasn’t sure how he was supposed to answer whether or not she knew him. He didn’t know who all knew him. “Couldn’t tell ya, however, if you went to Hogwarts last year we probably passed each other in the hall or something.” he admitted. He said fairly sure he didn’t know her. She didn’t look like someone he took classes with or would have seen around his coming room. A lot of people probably knew of his family though, they were weird like that.

Okay. Thanks for an incredibly vague and unhelpful answer. The thought ran through Aura’s mind to repeat the words out loud, but she bit her lip and forced the words to stay purely mental. If she had been asked the same question, she would have provided specific reference points that could help pinpoint her identity to anyone asking. Her name, for starters. Her house, her year. Electives, Quidditch, clubs. Rather than simply go with the unfortunately conventional ‘maybe.’
As it was, she’d quickly lost interest in the conversation, so she didn’t push any further on how the boy could have refined his answer (which she would have done if Silver had given her a line like that). “…okay. Great,” she finally said, copying his shrug with one of her own. Her mind drifted to estimate how many minutes she’d been standing in line, how much longer until paying for and receiving the ice cream (not long, she was almost to the front), and where her brother would be by the time she’d exited. Probably already to their next agreed-on location. They’d have to eat the ice cream outside before entering the store.
It took a moment for her to refocus on the present. “Looks like it’s your turn.” Aura nodded her head to indicate the person in front of the boy she’d briefly spoken to had moved out of the way with his ice cream, leaving Mr. Noncommittal first in line. She was already anxious to get back to her twin.

Thursday wasn’t sure what exactly, this girl was having a hard time with, but it seemed to be all of him in general. That didn’t bother him much. He didn’t exactly plan to keep her as a friend when she bumped into him. He had just been making small talk to ease any tension that might have risen from the incident. He knew his sister would have gotten anxious had she bumped into someone, and he liked to do what he could to erase anxiety before it started. But she didn’t like his answer, and he didn’t really care. He wasn't planning on changing it to make her happy. He shrugged a little and turned his attention back to the menu above the counter. What did he want again?
Then she nodded to the register and said that it was his turn. “Ahh, so it is.” he agreed, stepping up and ordering a double scoop of the Chocolate Frog Fudge. He imagined it was just chocolate and based off of the creamy taste of the popular ribbeting chocolates. Something his sister would enjoy also, if she decided to steal a bite later. He received his cone and stepped aside so the girl behind him could step up. Then it hit him. “Hey, you’re Silver’s sister aren't you? I should have known, you look just like him.” he smiled. That made so much more sense now. “I was just talking to him like maybe an hour ago. Hey tell him hi, would ya?” his smile grew. He was a pretty cool guy as far as Saturday was concerned.

The line really wasn’t that long, but Aura was an impatient person. Especially more so given recent events that had happened not a week ago. She was anxious to get back to her twin, although she could understand that the impulse was more emotionally-driven than intellectual. The odds of something happening to Silver in the few minutes they’d be apart were laughably low, but Aura would feel better once they were together again.
All that, and something about the brief conversation with the boy in front of her had really rubbed Aura the wrong way. It had been maybe a minute total, but there was something vague about the boy that she didn’t like. Not that it mattered, she supposed. He ordered his ice cream, which Aura took an interested look at – she was very fond of sweets, and it was an extraordinary amount of chocolate. Then he stepped aside and it was her turn.
“One Ice Mice Mint, please, and one Coco—er, Chocolate Frog Fudge,” Aura corrected at the last second. The first was for her brother (it was a new flavor she thought he’d like, and if he didn’t he could come and order a new one himself) but as she’d been about to order her usual Aura switched mid-word instead. That was unusual for her, as she really preferred to stick to what she knew, but…well, it looked good! That was the only reason.
She took one ice cream in each hand after paying, and was ready to scurry out of the shop to find Silver when she heard a familiar voice speaking again. Aura hesitated before turning to face the boy. If he’d just spoken to her brother…then this must be Saturday. Silver had told her about the conversation while the twins had been browsing at Flourish and Blott’s, and he’d had very good things to say about Saturday. Not that Aura saw it herself, but, if it helped her brother make a new friend… “Right, you’re Thursday Weekly’s brother,” she said. Thursday was more her brother’s friend, but she liked the other Ravenclaw – she’d probably make a great study partner too.
“Yeah, I will,” Aura responded as Saturday passed on his ‘hi.’ She was ready to do that now, but she reminded herself, ‘do this for Silver.’ So she offered, “I’m Aura. Silver should be around here somewhere. He had a…good impression of you. He mentioned you were a nice guy.”

Once Saturday had mentioned her brother, she seemed to recognize who he was. Saying, just as Silver had at first, that he was Thursday’s brother, he nodded along with the claim. Of all the things he could have been known for, and there were many, he didn’t mind being known as Thursday’s brother. She was probably his best friend anyway, so he was glad that most people associated the two of them together, like they probably did for Silver and his sister. He still didn’t know the girl's name. She agreed to pass on his greeting, even though he had just chatted with the boy, and then finally introduced herself and then said that Silver was around somewhere and that he had said that he was a nice guy.
Saturday smiled at the compliment, even if it was indirect. “Ah cool, that’s nice of him. I try not to be a jerk.” he joked - though he was pretty sure that she didn’t appreciate his jokes. He just wasn’t a serious guy. He also wasn’t exactly trying to impress or make a new friend. Though he could say that he didn’t want his new friend's sister to hate him. “Nice to meet you, Aura. That’s a cool name. Are you into spirituality and astrology and stuff like that?” he asked. With a name like that, she could be pretty cool in a crowd like Chuck was in, she was super into astrology and reading auras and such.

Aura could kind-of understand why Silver seemed to like Saturday – at least, in a theoretical sense. In many ways, the twin almost shared one mind and it was easy to spend most of their time together. Still, occasionally they had a divergence of opinion and it mostly showed in what they did when they weren’t together. Aura was talking to one now.
Look, it wasn’t that Saturday didn’t seem like a nice guy. He did seem easy to talk to, and that would be good for Silver, since he and Aura had argued many times on the value of being social and interactions with other people. But Aura was very direct in terms of translating her thoughts into words, and she didn’t like to waste her time with things that didn’t have a clear payoff. She was serious about her future, and about the best way of getting there. From what she’d heard from her brother about Saturday, and this brief first impression she’d gotten…he didn’t seem that way at all. So what was the point in spending time around someone who just wasted it?
“Well, does anybody actually try to be a jerk?” Aura responded sincerely. His tone suggested it was a joke, but it wasn’t much of a clever one. His last question sounded more like a joke than anything else he’d said, and…well, maybe it was fair for someone who didn’t know her to question her nickname, but the idea of an Aura who was spiritual and into astrology seemed like the kind of thing that might happen the day nifflers learned to fly. She was normally a very reserved person with a somewhat stern expression on her face, but she cracked a smile and even a small laugh at the thought. “Um…no. I just have pretentious parents who really leaned into the symbolism when they named their children Aurum and Argentum.” The nicknames were easy to derive from there – Aura had just cut her name in half, while Silver had gone for a more interpretative approach.
Maybe Saturday of all people would be the right person to understand that. “Are you into the calendar and the weekend and things like that?” she asked innocently, mimicking his phrasing with a half-smile. Even she was capable of a joke now and then.

She asked if anyone ever tried to be a jerk and he nodded. “Oh yeah, have you ever met a bully?” he asked, kind of in a way that was obvious that he was kidding, but also, it was true. He knew or had heard of plenty of people who did go out of their way to be rude, or, who just couldn’t be bothered with going out of their way to be nice. Saturday tried to go out of his way to be nice when he could. Of course there were days when the weight of the world got him down as well, but he never wanted to be mean if he could help it. Weed helped with that a lot.
She said that she wasn’t into reading auras and that sort of thing and explained that her parents just wanted pretentious names for their children. Saturday could relate. She asked if he was into the calendar and weekend things and he smirked, “Oh yeah! Saturdays are fun days, and I’m the fun sibling.” he reported. He was fairly sure he wasn’t the fun sibling. But he could dream. “Even so, point taken. Names don’t mean that much about a person.” he shrugged. He did feel like he fit his original name more than Saturday, though.

Aura cracked a smile at his question about bullies but didn’t respond. She couldn’t immediately think of an answer that didn’t somehow set up the opportunity for him to point out that she wasn’t the nicest person around – although of course she wasn’t a bully! But still, she preferred not to set up situations that could potentially end in an embarrassing answer, or, even worse, not having a good answer at all. So she wasn’t exactly Ms. Sunshine and Rainbows, and she didn’t spend her free time giving candy to babies and reading to the elderly. It didn’t mean she couldn’t be nice if she wanted.
His smirk indicated that a snarky answer was coming and Saturday didn’t disappoint. Aura gave a pretend hum of contemplation. “I don’t know though, don’t all the songs tell us that Fridays are the best day of the week? And you can sleep in on Sundays too,” she mused out-loud, returning his smirk with one of her own, albeit more muted. But she nodded seriously at his last comment. “Our names are chosen before we even begin to display any predominant personality traits. You can tell much more about a person through their ice cream order.” She nodded at his cone, which he had neglected to touch until this point. Aura made a point of tasting her own ice cream, which completely delivered on its promise of chocolate wonder. She was still holding both her own ice cream and Silver’s, although it hadn’t been long enough for her twin to wonder why she wasn’t back yet. Aura figured she had a few more minutes before her twin would get cranky at her absence.

She teased him, saying that Friday and Sunday were probably the best days of the week according to popular culture. She wasn’t wrong. There were no songs about Saturday’s that he could name. “You got me there.” he gave in, defeated. He wasn’t one to continue conflict, even if it was just in a joking manner. He was very peaceful. She said that names didn’t mean too much about a person and he shrugged. “My name was chosen when I was 8. Just because it was next in line. I don’t think it means that much about my personality. I feel like my first name suits me a little better.” he didn’t talk about that sort of thing very often. It was kind of touchy. His life before adoption wasn’t great. But he could admit that he didn’t feel like Saturday suited him very well. He was more chill, like a Sunday. Or a Thursday. He felt like someone named after Saturday should be hyper and adventurous. He wasn’t. "My ice cream order does say a lot though. Apparently, I have great taste." he noticed she had gotten the same flavor.

It was only a casual reference, but Aura perked up a little as Saturday offered a small insight into the origins of the Weekly family. It had taken her by surprise how important social interactions had become to Aura since she’d first arrived at Hogwarts. Of course, her studies and her extracurriculars were always more important, but she sought out friends to a degree that surprised her. She loved Silver, but she also loved being around other people (especially in some form of competition). Naturally, this meant she’d become somewhat tuned in to the gossip mill, and she’d heard enough about the Weekly family through the grapevine considering she wasn’t particularly close with any of them.
“Your first name?” Aura repeated curiously. It hadn’t occurred to her that maybe they didn’t all want to be referred to as only days of the week. “Is there something else I could call you besides Saturday?” That was maybe something of a personal question, and of course she and Saturday weren’t anything like friends and she had no interest in engaging in any more social interactions after this brief one ended. Naturally. So she quickly interjected with a clarifying statement to remove any doubts that this was anything more than a purely academic question. “Because I get it about, y’know, the names. Nobody calls me Aurum except my dad and stuffy professors who insist on using the full name.” Hm, her response still sounded more personal than she’d intended, but she left it alone. Silver could thank her later for making such an effort to be nice.
Aura rolled her eyes at Saturday’s snarky response about the ice cream. “Yeah, or maybe you just got lucky and chose a good flavor. Anything with chocolate is guaranteed to be above average,” she shot back, taking another interested look at her ice cream before looking back at Saturday. “So, maybe your ice cream order suggests that you can stumble on something good every now and then, and mine suggests that I’m willing to try new things.”

Aura seemed to lighten a little when he explained that not all names were irrelevant to personality. He could tell that she had probably been a little curious about his family since she jumped on the chance to ask him to clarify what he meant when he said his first name. He nodded. “We all had our names changed when we were adopted and they were all just in line with the names of the weekday, well, except Tuesday. He came last.” and it was already his name, what a coincidence that was. “My birth parents named me Sterling, so that’s what I was called until I was 6.” he explained, wondering if he was making himself and his siblings sound even more like freaks than the fact that they were named after the days of the week did. They were all kind of used to being seen as the weird family, though. They probably would have been seen as weird even if they all had ‘normal’ names since most everyone had seen their mom in movies.
She admitted that she understood it, she had an odd name as well and no one really called her by it, she told him. He nodded. It was a little different, but he understood that she meant, and he appreciated the attempt at empathy. She added that maybe their mutual ice cream flavors meant different things, and he shrugged. “You might be right about that.” he admitted with a nod and a genuine smile. “I’ll let you get going before that other cone melts. I’m sure Silver wouldn’t really appreciate melted ice cream.” he assumed at least, that was who the second cone was for. “I’ll see you at school, Aura.” he followed her out of the shop, and then gave her a friendly wink and headed off to find his sister.
