Jacob had been working at the small bakery in Diagon alley for about a week now and it was easy to get into the swing of things. At least as far as the baking was concerned. After he got over the initial learning where everything was at, it was pretty much just like any other kitchen he had been in. Since it was a small bakery there wasn’t many other employees. Just him sometimes but he enjoyed it well enough. He could do without the talking to people as he always felt like he was coming off as incredible awkward but there wasn’t much he could do about that. That’s how businesses worked and if he wanted to own his own bakery one day he would have to get over his aversion to people one way or another. As he didn’t know of any magical way of having confidence around new people he would have to just get used to it over time.
Around midday Jacob had just finished baking some more brownies and placing them under the glass display. The door opened and the ring of the bell above it soon followed. Here was the part he hated as he smiled and looked toward the people now in the store. “Welcome to Alderton’s bakery. What can I get you?” Jacob got out a little more quickly than someone normally would but at least there wasn’t the beginning awkward stutter he always had. It was an improvement at least. Giving the customer the brownies and cupcake they asked for he went back to baking and stocking, checking the front to make sure no one had snuck in and he didn’t hear the bell. It was both nice to be by himself and a little stressful when people did show up. Luckily this place never got too busy.

This summer was rough, but today was a good day. It was poring rain, and Thursday was out, walking around Diagon Alley without her sunglasses. She had just been to the salon to touch up her pink hair and had made her way to the magical shopping district because it was nice out and she didn't quite want to go back to the penthouse yet. Shortly after arriving in the area, the rain started. Quickly she put up her umbrella, to protect the color in her hair from bleeding all over her vintage baggy shirt that the brother that once owned it couldn't fit in it any more. She liked being small. As she walked around, enjoying her self, she saw a group leaving Alderton's bakery. She hadn't been in there herself, but she and Saturday had shared the last half of a pie that one time.
As the door closed, the sent of fresh baked goods made it to her nose. She couldn't help it. She moved her way to the entrance of the shop, closing her umbrella when she was safe under cover and shaking some water out. She walked into the store with a ring of the bell and silently took a look around. There didn't seem to be anyone up front. But that was fine. She made her way to the front case and leaned over to look at the creations, taking a deep breath in. Man she loved the smell of baked goods.

Jacob liked to keep the bakery well stocked, though the owner preferred they only made what they were going to need throughout the day. Still Jacob enjoyed baking so it was hard not to when he had the supplies and all the time in the world when no one was in the shop. Doing just that he set another tray of brownies in the oven and set a timer just as the he heard the door bell ring. There was a small sigh from him as he braved himself for having to be sociable again, Jacob was getting better but no where near the comfort level your average person had.
Cleaning up, he headed up front as to not leave the person or people waiting too long. He didn’t need to add agitated people to the list of what he might have to deal with. Walking through the door way into the front of the shop he already had the greeting down. “Welcome Alderton’s bakery, what can we- I get for you?” He stumbled as he said the we part which only worked when he wasn’t the only one here today. He ignored the embarrassed feeling noticing the pink hair now looking over their display as Jacob walked behind it. “I should have fresh brownies out in a bit but everything else is freshly made still.”

Thursday licked her lips as she looked at each delicious creation and as sweet spells invaded her scenes. She would live here is she could. Sweets were defiantly her weakness. She was twiggy, and all of five feet, but the girl couldn't contain herself when it came to sweets.
It didn't take long for a young man to come and move behind the counter. Thursday smile widened as he mentioned the brownies "That's great. Everything looks, and smells amazing" She looked from the treats to the boy. "I don't know how you could stand to work in a place like this....And not eat everything." She gave a little giggle when she was done. She thought she would be sociable, and pastries and other sweet treats were a perfect in for the girl.

Jacob waited for the girls response as she kept browsing the display and then smiled. She commented that everything looked and smelled amazing and Jacob smiled back to her as she looked up. While Jacob wasn’t a very social person by nature yet, any conversation that involved cooking or baking helped bring him out of his shell. It was the only topic he had enough confidence in to be fine talking about. “Thanks, we bake everything fresh each day and the kitchen is right in back so it always smells great in here.” Jacob explained as the girl was now looking up at him. The pink haired girl asked about how he could possibly work here and not eat everything. “It takes a lot of self control but I won’t lie. I do sneak enough here and there to get by.” Jacob explained with another laugh. If only every conversation could be about cooking or baking. He would sound like a normal person all the time. “I disguise it as taste testing but I already knew it was going to be good anyway. So let’s just keep that between me and you.”
"Free sample? first because I'm allowed to do that and second, to buy your silence about me sneaking some snacks here and there?"

Thursday had good and bad days, but sweets were something she as always up for, eating, smelling, talking about. By the way the boy smiled, he seemed to be on the same page as she was. “It takes a lot of self control but I won’t lie. I do sneak enough here and there to get by.” he also said that he would disguise some tests as fake taste tests and she laughed. "You have more self control then me." He then offered her a free sample, ans she perked right up. Her smile growing wider on her face she nodded and moved closer to him. "I'd love one, and don't worry, your secret is safe with me" She laughed some more
Her mind finally processed what he had said about making pastries daily. "So, if you bake things daily, what happens to the ones that don't get sold the day before?" Please say discount. Please say discount. She wasn't in short supply of money, their family was quite well off, but that didn't change that if they were on sale, she could justify buying even more. She was sure that her siblings would eat some.

Jacob laughed for a moment as the girl commented that he had more self control than she did. “Possibly or I’m just around it so much that I know I’ll always have the opportunity to snack when I want later.” He joked but Jacob did actually have decent self control when it came to sweets. Baking to him was fun to do and fun to share what he created too. So he couldn’t actually just devour it all. As the girl explained she would love a free sample Jacob just smiled back before using the little plastic tongs they had to put a brownie from under the display on a plate. He passed the plate over the display to the girl. “I would hope so now I that I bribed you with sweets.”
She asked about the baked goods that didn’t sell the day before and what happened to them. “Oh a number of things. Stuff that will still be good next day will be discounted and they are normally picked off first thing in the morning while new batches are coming out.” Jacob looked over the display. Much of the discounted stuff was gone, which wasn’t out of place. “Anything that won’t be as fresh tomorrow, we’re allowed to take home or it gets donated to a local meal center for people down on their luck.” Which was also part of the reason Jacob didn’t mind baking more than what was needed when he was the only one running the bakery. He liked the idea of helping people out when he could.

The boy laughed at her comment, and Thursday couldn't help but laugh along. He mentioned that he was so used to being around the sweets, and he knew that he could always get some later. Thursday thought about that. She was never really deprived of sweets. True, sometimes her mother wouldn't let her eat all the cookies, but she was never told to stop entirely. Being part vampire really helped push her drive for sweets. She watched as he pulled a brownie out of the case and slid the plate towards her. “I would hope so now I that I bribed you with sweets.” She laughed some more and took the plate "Thank you" She greedily took a larger bite than she should have. And instantly melted. She rolled her eyes and head up and gave a loud "Mmm" sound. "This is amazing!"
She continued to eat her sample as he explained what the bakery did with the day old pastries. First thing in the morning. Mornings were hard, she was really not a morning person, but she could convince herself, every once in a while. There was a little twinge of sadness when she learned that there weren't discounts late at night. Nights were more her speed. But the girl couldn't be too upset about giving such delicious things to the less fortunate. In another life, one where she wasn't adopted, she might be on the streets, or with some family that was abusive. She shuddered at the thought of that. "Well I'm defiantly going to need to take somethings home. I'm already obsessed" This wasn't that hard to do.

Jacob watched as the girl took a large bite of the brownie he handed her, followed by her reaction. Commenting about it being amazing. Jacob didn’t have an ego in any area besides possibly cooking or baking and even then it wasn’t something he expressed in front of people. He knew the brownies were amazing but he wasn’t going to just say something so boldly. “That’s the reaction we go for here, or at least I do at least.” Jacob commented with a smile, as long as the conversation stayed on baked goods, he could seem just like any other person. Which was the part he didn’t mind about this job, but the small talk on other subjects revealed how nervous he could get at times.
The girl explained that she was going to have take some home. That and she was already hooked. He laughed for a moment. “Well just point out anything you might like and I can get it ready for you. They all do taste amazing so it might be hard to wait till you get home.” Jacob joked, hard to believe he was actually joking in a teasing manner but again, thankfully baked goods were still involved.

Thursday had the sweet tooth of a five year old child. If aloud to, she would only eat pastries, baked goods, and candy. “That’s the reaction we go for here, or at least I do at least.” She gave the boy a toothy grin. "Then you nailed it" She liked this boy. He was nice, and he made sweets. Thursday to go on about sweets for days. Her siblings knew that, and usually didn't want to hear it (for that long anyway).
The conversation transitioned to ordering, and Thursday took a glance at her wallet to remind her how much allowance she had left. By the end of this interaction, she would be all out. It was inevitable. She looked around, doing quick math in her head, putting prices together and figuring out what. "Alright, I think I'll get two of those, and three of those. One of those, and those." She pointed to a number of brownies, pies, cakes slices, and a few cookies as she went. After getting all that she could for her allowance she smiled at the boy. "And that's it." For now.

The girl explained that he nailed in on the amazing brownies which was always something that made him smile. Not her complimenting him exactly. Just any compliment on his baking and cooking. It was the one area he felt comfortable in. Never in magic or dealing with people, nor sports or school work. All of those left him feeling like he just wasn’t up to the task. Yet, cooking always felt right to him. Like he was always doing his best even if he had messed up a dish or baked good. He was still learning but confident still. “Thanks, always good to have a happy customer.” Which was pretty obvious he thought after saying it. Anything was better than a rude or unhappy person.
As they moved on to what exactly she wanted to order the girl pointed out a number of things. After the talk of sweets he wasn’t surprised by the number of things she was getting. Most customers only got one or two things unless they were buying for large groups. Jacob took note and packed up the various brownies, cookies, pies and cake slices. Ringing her up in the near by register. “Okay I’ve got you all set. I also threw in an extra brownie and cookie. It’ll give me an excuse to bake more if we run out faster.” Jacob said with a small laugh. If every conversation could be about backing he’d probably never stutter or stammer his words again. “It is the part I enjoy most.”

The brownies that the the girl tested were great, and she told the boy so. He smiled and she couldn't help but smile back. Sweets were one of her favorite things, she took them very seriously. He thanked her for the compliment and she smiled an nodded. Compliments were always nice to receive, so Thursday tried to tell people the good that she saw.
Thursday knew that that the number of sweets that she was ordering would only make sense for a group of people. But no, the half vampire intended to eat everything on her own. She was willing to share, she wasn't completely selfish. But she also knew that these sweets were going to get hidden in her room or the fridge with her name all over them. She followed him to the register, and beamed as he said that he would put in some extra sweets. Giving a little chuckle "I'll never say no to more." She wished she could get double what she ordered, but she didn't have the galleons for it.
He mentioned that baking was his favorite part. "I wish I could bake. But know I know about this place, I don't have to worry about that." She definitely did plan to return.
