Lusie felt a wave of embarrassment overcome her when Toby explained how their relationship started. She had nearly forgotten about that day; about how she had her sliced open from her elbow to her shoulder and about how Edmund had burst into the hospital wing demanding an explanation. He had hated Toby at first but eventually come to accept the man. It had certainly not been love at first sight, but the more Toby stuck around and the closer they became to one another, the more attached Lusie came to him. It had just, sort of, happened.
She sat with her sister and spoke. “Oh you should have seen the look of Ed’s face when he saw Toby there in the hospital wing with me. I thought he might punch him.” Lusie admitted with a laugh. “Luckily, he actually listened for once and came around.” she concluded with a smile.

Sybil laughed, remembering that her brother had written to her about Lusie’s incident in the Hospital Wing. He hadn’t mentioned Toby by name, but now she recalled that he had mentioned a boy in the ward with Lusie when he had arrived. “So it was you, then. Ed wrote to tell me you were in the Hospital Wing Lus, but didn’t go into details. Only that you were recovering and that some “boy” was there with you,” she told them with a fond smile. “He didn’t mention you by name Toby, so obviously he felt that it wasn’t truly your fault,” she added. Ed would have had NO problem whatsoever blaming someone for whatever had put Lusie in the hospital wing, so the fact that he didn’t spoke volumes. “Well it sounds like he approved, and so do I,” Sybil said with a smile. It was nice to have something happy, and hopeful to look towards instead of sadness and anger. She was still grieving for her brother, and she knew that feeling wouldn’t go away any time soon. But she knew her sister was in good hands with Toby, and that was all an elder sister could ask for. The bells from a nearby church tolled, and Sybil sighed. “That is our cue Luse, that we should head back in and say our goodbyes,” she told her, then looked at Toby. “I do hope we see more of you around Toby,” she told him, and she meant it too. Her sisters happiness was what she wanted. @lusie tobias charles watkins end Sybil!
