Supposedly, Alfie was impressed by her even though she had mentioned that she hadn't actually played Quidditch, though it was always difficult for Tamatha to ascertain how much her conversations with men were really just because she had Veela charm. It wasn't as enjoyable a game to play when she wasn't in the conversation with a man solely for what came after. She knew that maybe she had to start questioning that, though.
He was right, however, when he mentioned that it must have been a difficult year for her with everything that had happened in the Quidditch world. It was almost too true, and she didn't want to dwell on it.
Maybe it was because she didn't want to remain on the subject of work, but Tamatha laughed a little when Alfie questioned aloud how appropriate it was to be asking about her sister. As Cameron's guardian while she was at Hogwarts, she was protective of her—and for more reasons than just that—but she didn't think that Alfie meant any harm by it, really. Besides, she had been questioning whether or not she wanted to bring it up before she had said it. And if he did take that information as an excuse to try anything with her younger sister, he was the one who had introduced himself with his full name before she had even given him hers.
"Cameron Berg," Tamatha answered, not that she thought that there would have been any other Bergs enrolled at Hogwarts. "She's a seventh-year now. She was in Pukwudgie at Ilvermorny before last year."

When Tamatha shared her younger sisters name, he searched his memory, truly wondering if he knew who they were. The name Berg rang a bell but it wasn't anything recent at Hogwarts. Alfie always remembered his students, if not the name, he knew their face. His head cocked to the side thoughtfully, eyebrows threading at the center of his forehead, "Berg. Ohhh..wait, I do know the name Berg." he laughed, before asking. His brown eyes flickered with curiosity, "Cam? Cameron Berg! Yeah, she was in my class one of my first years teaching at Ilvermorny.." he shared, honestly not finding it that awkward since she hadn't been one of his students in over 4 years. The wolf had experienced much worse woes in his days so he wasn't one to dwell on this newfound information. It only made the world smaller. Alfie wasn't going to take this time to give dirt on his students, or drag them or anyone into his business because his personal life was sacred, so he was willing to overlook that fact if Tammy didn't care.
A small group started to congregate toward where a worker stepped out and requested them to follow for the tour to begin. Alfie wasn't sure how a tour like this worked, or how long it would be, but it seemed more laid back. They welcomed the group into a room where there were many kegs lined up to the ceiling. The guide shared a few facts about the establishment before small glasses apparated out of thin air, floating beside each guest. Each of the glasses were filled with enough to try a woody flavored firewhiskey, "Do you drink?" he asked her curiously, wondering if a place like this would normally be somewhere she'd frequent. Alfie was more of the pub or get wasted at home type of guy, or smoking himself stupid, but he probably wouldn't be that honest about it right now.

It took a little while longer than Tamatha expected for Alfie to recall a Cameron Berg. From her standpoint, that was maybe a good thing. It meant that at least he hadn't had had his eye on her, a teenager, and was somehow remembering her and getting the two of them confused. The name rang a bell, although it seemed that he didn't have any particularly strong feelings about Cameron one way or another. That was also good, because it meant that she hadn't been any sort of a troublemaker in his class, hopefully. Alfie said, though, that she had been in his class years before, and Tamatha nodded.
A lot had happened in the intervening years, Tamatha thought, and she wasn't about to talk about that side of things. It was maybe better that he remembered Cameron as an eleven-year-old. Tamatha herself admittedly still saw Cameron that way sometimes, and it was hard to remember that she was old enough and responsible enough to be making her own decisions. She refused to give her complete control, though; her sister needed the structure, and she sort of enjoyed being the one to provide it. Besides, their parents had trusted her to do that much on their behalf. And she hoped that she at least had earned herself some bonus points in her sister's book because of the fact that she wasn't their mother.
Before too much longer, the group of people for their tour began to form itself out of the people who had been milling around. One of the distillery workers, who was most likely their tour guide, stepped out and requested that they follow them so that they could begin the tour itself. At least they were visiting a distillery rather than a museum, so Tamatha didn't think that there wouldn't be any issue with the other visitors or the staff if she and Alfie kept talking as they went along.
The first room that they entered for the tour was large enough to hold the tour group with ease. Tamatha, looking up a little after they had stepped inside, saw that there were kegs lining the ceiling. She doubted that they were still full, but it was an interesting look. Honestly, to her, it looked more like something that she would have seen in Canada.
She wasn't as focused on what the tour guide was saying about the distillery and the Ogden's Old Firewhisky brand, but it didn't escape her notice that each of the visitors on the tour—herself included—had been given their own tasting glass filled with firewhisky. Each of the glasses hovered in midair, and Tamatha carefully took hers in her hand.
"Do you drink?" she heard Alfie ask her at about the same time.
"White wine, usually," Tamatha replied, suddenly feeling more self-conscious than she had before. She wasn't sure what the etiquette for tasting firewhisky was—or how it might have differed from the typical wine tasting—but she supposed that she would find out. The drink was obviously going to burn on its way down, and she prayed that she wouldn't make a fool of herself in front of Alfie once she went to taste it. "You?"

Alfie had a feeling Tamatha was more of a wine lady. Upon first impression, she seemed more put together but still easy going. When she asked if he normally drank he nodded, "Yeah, I like firewhiskey." he admitted, suddenly feeling like he was in the right place being in a Firewhikey museum.
Their date seemed to be going fairly well and time was moving at a decent pace, especially after alcohol was brought into the mix. It always soothed his nerves but often made him talk too much. Admittedly, Alfie was ready to get past the awkward chit chat and get to asking the deeper questions to get to know his date a little bit, which sometimes got a little more awkward. Alfie took a sip of his flight, "Since we're on a blind date I gotta be sure to cover those obligatory first date questions.." he told her, more in a light conversational tone. He asked, "Have you been on a blind date before? These Blishwick dates seem like a big thing around here."

Alfie explained that he liked firewhisky, which might have explained how they had ended up on a blind date at a firewhisky distillery. Then again, Britain and Ireland weren't exactly known for their wines; hard liquor was more common.
The tasting flight wasn't quite as bad as she had expected it to be. Some of the whiskeys were a little bit stronger than she would have liked, yet she wasn't sure if it was the alcohol or just Alfie's personality that made it easy to talk with him. "Since we're on a blind date," he told her, "I gotta be sure to cover those obligatory first date questions…" Tamatha waited, preparing herself for whatever Alfie was going to throw her way, and she was glad that it wasn't anything too deep. "Have you been on a blind date before?" was the question, which might have been more interesting for some people. "These Blishwick dates seem like a big thing around here."
She had gotten that feeling about the Blishwick dates, too, although it wasn't the first time she had been on one, technically, and she laughed a little at the reminder of it. "Yeah," she answered Alfie. "I signed up for one before this, but it didn't really go anywhere." It had been her date's loss, although it had been more of a surprise to her that he hadn't been as obsessed with her Veela charm as some men in her past. "You?"

"Well, here's to hoping this goes somewhere.." he said in an easy-going smile and joking tone, though on the inside he was mentally kicking himself for that one because he feared it made him sound weird or too flirty. Technically it was a date, that was allowed, right? Merlin, Alfie hated that he could be so self-conscious at times. It kept him from taking chances. The Professor shook his head from side to side, "No, I've never been on a blind date before." Alfie answered her question honestly. He probably wouldn't tell her the full truth on this one because he and Esther dared each other to sign up for the Blishwick date. That wouldn't be polite for him to share that with Tammy. Plus, he was enjoying their easy conversation, and she wasn't hard on the eyes. "For a while, I've been too focused on studying and career, so I thought this could be a good idea to get my toes wet, ya know?" he shared as they entered another room. Honestly, Alfie didn't care too much about this stuff, he was more interested in act of drinking more than admiring from afar.

"Well, here's to hoping this goes somewhere…" Alfie told her, though it had already gone a lot further with him than it had with the last Blishwick date guy. She didn't know how to respond to that without making things awkward. With most of her encounters with men outside of work, "going somewhere" was usually going back to her place or theirs. It wasn't that Tamatha would have minded if things reached that point with Alfie, but she wasn't there to rush things. It took the pressure off of her to say something, though, when Alfie added that he hadn't been on a blind date before.
Tamatha nodded her head a little. She could understand that, but that wasn't anything against him at all. Blind dates just weren't everyone's idea of a good time, and the Tamatha Berg of years past would have agreed wholeheartedly there. With blind dates, there was no telling what they would get out of it. She had lucked out, out of who knew how many people had signed up for these things.
"For a while," Alfie continued as they moved along with their tour of the distillery's facilities, "I've been too focused on studying and career, so I thought this could be a good idea to get my toes wet, ya know?"
"Yeah. I get that." Tamatha did understand that. She could be something of a workaholic at times, and it was sort of the same for her, except she was more focused on getting out of the hookup scene and into something more serious than she was getting out of a drought in its entirety. "Did you think you'd end up touring a firewhisky distillery, though? It's kinda cool, actually."

Alfie couldn't believe he said that. He was still cringing on the inside, wishing he didn't say stupid things. But he recovered and she seemed to let him slide. Hell, Alfie found himself wanting alcohol to soothe his nerves, but he was also worried about getting too loose on a first date. Either way, Alfie was an awkward person when first getting to know people. Tamatha was cool so far and he was enjoying her company. Things could have always gone worse.
They were led into another large room with the group as the tour guide spurted off more facts. Tamatha asked if he would have ever thought he'd go on a date at a distillery and he shook his head no. "Definitely not." he laughed lightly. The corners of his lips curled upwards as his warm brown eyes attempted to meet hers, "Did you ever think you'd be on a blind date with your sisters teacher?" he jested back in a light hearted tone, not expecting her to answer that. It seemed the tour was starting to wrap up as they were led into a dining area with pre-poured flights lined up on long tables.
"Where or what would your ideal date be if it were your choice?" he asked her, trying to gauge what kind of lady Tamatha was. Was she romantic, and wanted a picnic on the beach kind of date? The classic dinner and movie? Tail gate at a sports game? She wasn't very easy to read but he was listening, who knew, if they ended up on a second date maybe she'd give him an idea here. It was always good to be a good listener.

Alfie might have been slightly awkward, though Tamatha felt that his behavior was significantly better than how many other men would have behaved around her. If it were really that bad, she wouldn't have stood for it. She had had enough creepy interactions with people to last her a lifetime because of her Veela blood, and she had no qualms about letting people down gently—or not—when she felt that they were crossing a line that perhaps they shouldn't have been. She would have just gone and left without a second thought, and she hadn't done that.
No, she was actually enjoying herself, even if the choice of location wouldn't have been her first pick. But that was on Blishwick, not on Alfie, and it could have been worse than a distillery for a lot of reasons. When he asked her if she ever thought that she would be on a blind date with her sister's teacher, she laughed.
"To be perfectly honest? Not in a million years," she answered him, though that wasn't to say that she minded. Maybe Cameron would have something else to say about that, but it was what it was. One blind date didn't necessarily imply anything more serious than that, and Tamatha knew better than to leave her sister out of the loop if it came to anything more.
As they were led towards the end of their distillery tour and a flight of different whiskies set up for them to try, Alfie had another question for her. "Where or what would your ideal date be if it were your choice?" he wondered.
In all fairness, it was a good question, and it gave Tamatha pause as she considered her response. At first, she was prepared to say that she didn't know, but that wasn't completely true. By process of elimination, she could safely say what wouldn't have been her idea of an ideal date. Anything to do with water was something that she still couldn't fathom, for reasons that she didn't really want to bring up to Alfie just yet. It was possible that he might have known because of Cameron, but somehow Tamatha doubted that. "This is going to sound really cheesy," she acknowledged with a small smile, "but skiing or something like that." Not that she knew of anywhere in Britain or Ireland that was really suited to doing that. "Like, snow, a little chalet somewhere," she elaborated. "That sort of thing."

Alfie couldn't help but smile and chuckle when she said she never imagined she'd be on a date with her sister's professor. The idea was only a little award when he thought about seeing Cameron back at Hogwarts in the halls or classroom. He had no trouble being professional, it would just be a funny thought at first.
Tamatha shared her ideal date and he had to admit, it sounded quite amazing. Alfie loved being outdoors and especially loved skiing. He didn't have any chances since relocating to the UK. The Herbology professor smiled slowly, "How romantic" he gushed playfully, more to lighten the mood with very mild flirting. "In all honesty though that sounds like an epic date." he agreed, impressed by her creativity and an attitude willing for recreation. "Are there any good slopes here in the UK that you've tried?" he asked her, unsure if that was a thing. He didn't have much time away from work his first year while getting settled at Hogwarts so he didn't know what fun things there were to do in the area other than parks and bars. He noticed that younger people in the UK enjoyed drinking alcohol, specifically boxed wine, at parks which he found funny.
Gesturing to the wooden flight with glass orbs on their table, he smiled lightly, "Pick your poison.." he encouraged her, as he went for a more caramel hue option on his side with a cinnamon aroma. "This one smells like the holidays." he mused, swirling it in the glass before raising his glass to hers in question, "Cheers?"

Somewhat jokingly, Alfie commented about how romantic he thought her ideal date was, though it seemed that he actually didn't mind the idea as much as he had tried to make it seem like he did, adding not long after that that the date actually sounded "epic" to him. "Are there any good slopes here in the UK that you've tried?"
Tamatha, smiling, shook her head. "There's supposed to be some skiing here," she acknowledged, "but I don't know how good it really is." Maybe the slopes were better than she gave them credit for, but a part of her was doubtful. "I mean, we're close enough to the Alps here," she added, "but it's also not like I'm going to Chamonix or Courchevel every year or wherever the No-Majes prefer." She didn't doubt that there were people who did go for that, and she was admittedly partial to France, but where was she supposed to find that kind of time?
Alfie drew her attention to the flight of liquor that they had been given. "Pick your poison…" he instructed, and Tamatha stifled a laugh. They were probably so strong that they would taste like poison to her, she imagined, waiting as Alfie chose one of the varieties for himself. The one that he had picked up, he said, smelled like the holidays, which didn't actually sound all that horrible to her.
With some renewed hope in the taste of the firewhisky, Tamatha picked up a glass of her own. "I'm not getting 'holidays' with this one," she noted with a sheepish smile. She wasn't sure what notes she was supposed to be detecting in it beyond being able to tell that it was going to burn her throat on the way down, but Alfie had invited her to a toast.
"Cheers?" he asked.
Carefully, Tamatha nodded and lifted her glass to clink it against Alfie's. "Cheers," she repeated. "To first dates."

When Tammy disagreed that the cinnamon it smelled like the holidays, his eyes flickered with amusement, ”Ahhh, maybe a hint of lighter fluid, with notes of sorrow...” he dramatically swirled the caramel liquid in his glass and pretended to smell it, chuckling with a smile.
Extending his glass toward her, "To First Dates” he echoed after her as they lightly clinked glasses. His eyes met hers for a moment and he felt his ears get warm. Hell, he didn’t want to blush. Men over thirty weren’t supposed to blush… He knocked back the liquid in his glass, knowing he shouldn't drink it in one go, but he wanted anything to help soothe his nerves. Merlin, being a nerd while blind dating was fucking nerve wrecking.
It had been a while since they sat down at the table. The conversation flowed easier than he expected it to on a first date and Alfie lost track of how long they had been sitting, but they finished their remaining orbs of alcohol on their flights. Alfie didn’t go into the date thinking he would but he surprised himself. There was a part of him that didn’t want to seem like some under achiever, no matter what the activity. Alfie was supporting a heavier buzz from the Firewhisky which he was grateful for. The back door of the distillery was propped open and he could feel the cool night air seeping into the building, which was refreshing on his warm skin.
The Professor turned to his date with a smile as people around them started to exit the distillery, ”Would you like to step outside for some fresh air?” he asked her curiously, feeling that the date was coming to an end but he didn't necessarily want it to yet. He had enjoyed his time with Tammy. A part of him wondered if she would be willing to see him again. Hell, was a first date kiss too forward? He wasn't sure because he hadn't gone on any blind dates in the past so he had nothing to compare it to.

Humorously, Alfie brought up hints of "lighter fluid" and "notes of sorrow" in relation to the holidays, and that was probably more accurate for her than Tamatha cared to admit. (Lighter on the lighter fluid side of things, perhaps, but the sorrow part was about right.) She wasn't someone who hated the holiday season in and of itself—and her comment about the supposed notes in the liquor were because she wasn't picking up anything, never mind cinnamon—but she didn't really want to broach that topic and make things awkward between them. Even though the joke had been a little dark, Tamatha cracked a smile at it. They toasted to first dates, and he downed the entirety of the liquor in his glass then. Tamatha wasn't sure if that was intentional, but it was sort of amusing to her as she sipped at her firewhisky. Even with her being half Veela, she felt, he wasn't someone who seemed to be so unnaturally and completely obsessed with her that having a relationship would have been out of the question, and that alone felt new to her. Tamatha had almost completely lost track of time as they worked their way through the firewhisky, but it became apparent that they had been there for quite a while when some of the others who had been on the tour of the distillery with them were making their way back outside. "Would you like to step outside for some fresh air?" Alfie suggested to her then. Although she didn't know if it was because of the alcohol that her cheeks had gotten warmer, Tamatha nodded her head lightly. "Yeah, that sounds good," she agreed, smiling and standing from the table before lightening her tone a bit. "Lead the way, monsieur."alfie edward o'callaghan
