September 2nd, 2025 @open to Hogwarts staff!
Being cooped up in a castle for the foreseeable future was an odd, unfamiliar, and somewhat frustrating concept. Prior to her acceptance of the History of Magic position Renfri had lived on the go, never staying in one place more than a few months. Her home had been tents, hotels, and hostels. She wasn't exactly known for sticking around anywhere for long. But, things changed. Especially considering her current situation. She couldn't continue curse breaking, the only real skill set she'd developed after graduation. Thankfully, those skills translated well to a number of Hogwarts subjects. In particular, she'd been offered History of Magic.
Today would be her first official lesson. She wasn't nervous. She'd taught a number of Curse breakers over the years. No, she was more concerned over what damage the previous History of Magic teacher had done to the students.
So, in preparation, she was in the staff room, reviewing the notes from the previous teacher. And boy, she was her heart sinking with each page. Sitting at the table, with the notes scattered across the top, she leaned back and let out a sigh. Her right hand (as her left arm was in a black sling), raised and ran through her hair. "I'm royally screwed..."

Although Parvati might not have had quite as much reason to go to the staffroom as some of her colleagues, she didn't mind stopping by for the occasional chat. It was only the first full day of the term, and it felt a little strange to be at Hogwarts without her children there. They were grown and probably preferred to have her out of their hair, but that didn't make her miss their presence any less. Spending the day talking to other people was what she did for a living, but counseling students and having casual conversation with the other staff were different.
When she entered the room, one of the newest members of staff was there—the new History of Magic professor, Renfri Selwyn. The younger woman was seated at the table with no shortage of parchment in front of her. They were notes, it appeared, and Parvati noticed what she must have missed the previous evening at the feast: Renfri's left arm was in a sling. "I'm royally screwed…" she said aloud, as though she were a pupil revising for an exam.
"You'll be alright," Parvati reassured her, the hem of her wine-colored robes brushing against the floor as she moved to seat herself in the chair across from Renfri's place. "I don't think we got a chance to speak to each other at the feast," she added with a smile. "I'm Parvati Macmillan, school counselor and Head of Gryffindor House."

It was strange to be in such an environment as this after a long time of not being able to stay in one place too long. She would be safe here, especially since everybody thought she was dead. Hogwarts was a very interesting place and getting a job as librarian to Lúthien mostly meant that she could easily access a whole lot of books on forbidden topics. She had started by organising the forbidden section that only the graduates tended to use for research in their final years. It was easier to predict which students planned to go on a dark path for Lúthien because she knew exactly which kind of books she personally would have invested time in. Perhaps it could be of some help in guiding students down the road they planned to take? She wasn't the type to try and get people to take the good path but at least it would help them to make informed choices, right? She pondered this as she absently made her way into the break room, reading. Now that she was a librarian, she was determined to look and act the part. Book crazy nerd look was the new cool. As she entered she noticed two of them already there. Counselor Macmillan and History teacher Selwyn. Lúthien was fairly certain she wouldn't have gotten along with anybody in her past life but since this was a new start she'd give them a go. She smiled slightly at the two as she lowered her book and decided to join the conversation. "I don't think I properly introduced myself to either of you yet. I'm Melody, but you can just call me Mel." She said, holding her hand out for the introduction. "Being new here is like crazy. I never imagined myself going this path in life, you know?" She almost wanted to vomit because of her own behaviour. But she was the social person now, at least around her coworkers. If she was going to make this work, she needed to ensure she established a very different reputation and personality than the one people had known her to have. Nothing was allowed to give her disguise away. She took a seat and smiled at the other two. "I'm so excited! This year is going to be great, I'm sure of it!" She said with all the enthusiasm she managed to muster. At least this new face was a lot more suited to the excitement than the old one had been. @renfri and parvati patil macmillan and anybody else that joins. OOC note: The edits are not through yet so if I need to delete/edit this, let me know! I posted on all the lists, methinks >.<

The school's counselor and Head of Gryffindor was the first to enter, just in time to hear Renfri's complaint. The woman took one of the empty seats at the table, and Renfri reached out to gather up the scattered parchment with her right hand. Her left arm didn't even so much as twitch. "Oh, I'm not worried about that. I'm more concerned about the fact that these students had a rotten history teacher before." And judging from past essays, the students hadn't understood much that was properly taught to them. Renfri would have to do a lot of teaching reconnaissance to get the students rolling down the right path.
Another woman soon entered, another new face. She joined the table, and also added her own introduction after the counselor's. "Oh, no sorry. I was rather preoccupied last night. I'm sorry. I'm Renfri Selwyn. It's a pleasure to meet you both." Ugh, so formal. But this was her life now. A professional work environment. Dear god, what had she gotten herself into? The newer arrival, Melody, or Mel, was especially perky. It was a little unnerving. Renfri smirked. "You haven't worked much with teenagers, have you? You'll be less excited and more trying not to strangle them in a few weeks." While she hadn't taught teenagers this young before, new curse breakers were usually fresh graduates. Bright eyed 18-year-olds fresh from Hogwarts.

Parvati watched as Renfri moved her notes with her uninjured arm. "Oh," she said, "I'm not worried about that. I'm more concerned about the fact that these students had a rotten history teacher before." Parvati considered herself lucky that she hadn't had to deal with any issues caused by her predecessor; there hadn't been one. Then again, she had had enough to handle when she had started working at Hogwarts.
It wasn't long at all before another member of the school's staff entered the room. Melody Perdita was another new hire—the new librarian—and seemed to be more enthusiastic about her role. "I don't think I properly introduced myself to either of you yet," she considered after lowering the book that she was carrying away from her face. "I'm Melody, but you can just call me Mel."
Renfri, too, realized that she hadn't made a proper introduction and gave her name, saying that it was a pleasure to meet them both.
Standing from her place at the table and shaking Mel's hand, Parvati smiled politely and introduced herself. "Parvati Macmillan."
As Mel expressed how excited she was about the upcoming year, Parvati seated herself again and watched as Renfri smirked in Mel's direction. "You haven't worked much with teenagers, have you?" she observed. "You'll be less excited and more trying not to strangle them in a few weeks."
Some of the students had their moments, up to and including expulsion, but Parvati knew that most of them were simply adolescents trying to make it through school—and make it through school alive, frankly. "They're not monsters, really," she promised her younger colleagues.

Another fun day of pretending to be someone else, woohoo. The two hardest parts were these; one, not sharing a room with his wife (technically...) and two, his youngest being held back a year and him having to pretend he wasn't incredibly emotionally affected by that. Parvati knew who he was, so that helped. Still, playing Professor Dent was a difficult task... buuut he kind of enjoyed it, too. That was Harry's way, he fit in with chaos even if he wanted peace. He entered the staff lounge and was happy to see a familiar face. "Teenagers have a way of making you question everything you thought you new about confidence," he chimed in, crossing to stand near Parvati. He also thought he recognized one of the other Professors, but that was possibly just from the feast. He waved, "Professor Dent, Dueling, for those who don't know me," he introduced. @professors

Yet another member of the staff entered the room then, mentioning that teenagers had "a way of making you question everything you thought you knew about confidence". It was none other than Professor Dent, the Duelling professor, who proceeded to introduce himself to the room once he had found a place standing next to Parvati. "Hello, John," Parvati smiled, not that it would have been all that strange for her to be familiar with him, at least relative to the other staff members in the room. Out of everyone there, she had been working at Hogwarts the longest, which was awfully strange to think about. She was also one of the few who knew Jonathon Dent's actual identity and that he wasn't really "Dent" at all. No, he was Harry Potter, secretly teaching at Hogwarts alongside Ginny. "I haven't seen you for a while," she noted. Even though she knew that it was really Harry in disguise, it had been a long time since she had seen Harry as himself. It was almost enough to make her believe that it was really Dent and not Harry at all, which must have been even worse for him and Ginny. Although Parvati was divorced and had been for some time, she didn't want to imagine what it must have been like. It hurt her enough that she couldn't be as cordial with Harry as she would have liked. They'd lost both Laurel and Hermione, and it stung. But having Harry alive and well was the important thing, anyway. If he looked a little different, then so be it. @renfri @luthien HARRY JAMES POTTER OOC: Whoever else wants to join is cool by me!

Mel let out a bit of a giggle. Ugh, Lúthien hated giggling. Some parts of this new personality were going to take some getting used to. She shrugged effortlessly though, as that part came natural to her. "I'm sure I'll find ways to keep them in place. I only have to keep them from damaging books and I'm sure I can find some very irritating but innocent punishments. Have you tried to get teens to listen to certain types of music? If you pick the right one I'm sure they'll regret whatever it is they did soon enough. It doesn't hurt them but they might feel differently." She winked for good measure. It was innocent sort of punishments that worked well enough on the light perpetrators. Just like switching the dial on any sort of song they liked on the radio. Such things were highly frustrating and amusing to Lúthien. It just so happened that it was also beneficial to Melody to be able to make kids regret things such as desecrating books. Innocent but rather effective. Then somebody told her teens would make her question everything she knew about confidence. Well that was a tale as old as time. Her face fell, but it was merely for the sake of the farce she was keeping. She knew from personal experience how far teens were willing to go in order to break somebody down. If they thought they could bring her down they were in for a very unpleasant surprise. She had to stay good but that meant her revenge would be very different. Letters to parents could be highly effective to break the spirits of some bullies while just sowing a little discord in the popular crowds or the wrong rumours could really tear teens into pieces. Their worlds were small still. It was that she was being better or she would have seriously considered murdering the families of the overly persistant bullies. At the very least she could ban them from the library beyond a point of picking up books and dropping them off. Libraries were for the outcasts and they ought to feel safe. She conjured the smile right back on her face and then shrugged again. "They're just trying to find their way in the world. If we do it right I'm sure we can help guid them on the right paths." That certainly would have been nice to have when she'd been in school. "Either way, I'm sure we can all help each other to make this school year incredible and build new bonds amongst each other." Melody continued cheerfully. "I bought a few new books as addition to the library since I found a few subjects to be a bit scarse, although most of those included books on modern developments and enchanting muggle technology to survive in magical environments. It's quite an interesting collection to add to the library, especially with so many muggleborn students trying to find their place in the magical world. I'm sure it would be comforting for them to know that the magical world no longer has to mean an exclusion from the muggle world." Personally she really could not care less but nobody would associate her current behaviour with her secret past affiliation with the purifiers. She believed in a new world order still, although she didn't feel that had to mean violence towards muggles or muggleborn. Just a total reshaping of the ministry to make sure their focus was in the right place. The rumours of witch hunters should be taken seriously, even if it seemed like a stretch in modern day. @renfri parvati patil macmillan HARRY JAMES POTTER

Madam MacMillan made a comment about the students not being monsters and Renfri raised an eyebrow. Well, okay, not all teenagers were. But there were a good many. Renfri's experience with teenagers wasn't from school though. Hers was from trying to reach Cursebreaking recruits not to kill themselves. A moment later, just in time to hear the comment, anotehr teacher entered. An older gentleman, probably close in age to Madam MacMillan. It made her realize that, compared to some teachers at the school, Renfri was exceptionally young. Despite having been an experienced curse breaker. Curse breaker was, primarily, a young man's game. Teacher was not. He introduced himself, and Renfri nodded her own greeting. "Renfri. Selwyn. History of Magic."
She moved the papers from the table and set them on her bag that had been on the floor, next to her chair. "I'm not too concerned about their antics. I've trained several new curse breakers. There's nothing more dangerous then a teenager with an insatiable curiosity, surrounded by dangerous curses. If you can survive that, you can survive anything." At least, in her case, she was dealing with many teenagers that weren't fully trained. It would give her the edge on any trouble makers.
Melody, the librarian, was speaking again and Renfri almost felt like gagging. She was so.... perky. Perky and optimistic. Ugh. Renfri just was not that type of person and people that were too happy just rubbed her the wrong way. But, at least she brought up a good topic of discussion. The recent advances in technology. "It's my understanding that, as long as it isn't abused, the Headmistress sees the recent developments as a learning opportunity for the students." Renfri agreed. Having traveled so much she'd seen the muggle world a great deal. There were faster and more efficient ways to do things. It was good that the magical world was finally catching up. "Certainly for my own class it may prove to be very useful. THough, I'm not sure how other subjects might handle it." Her class was about history and research after all. They had little use for spell practice. Technology could help take the course to the next level. Which was what Renfri needed.
