▲ September 20, 2025 Cordelia had never anticipated that she would be heading back to Hogsmeade so soon after graduating from Hogwarts. Granted, it had been three months already, but she figured it would at least be until the Christmas holidays. The village always had a healthy blanket of snow capping the rooftops and lining the streets by then, and she found it at its most magical during that time of the year. September though? It was typically cold and unwelcoming. But she had never complained whilst at school, because that was a brief glimmer of freedom from the confines of the castle. Who was she kidding though? This trip to the magical village wasn’t exactly of her own volition either. She would never willingly attend a planned event on her own if it wasn’t for the threat of not getting a job. See, she had found herself looking down the barrel of a gun and managed to get an interview with the infamous tabloid, The Quibbler. Cordelia wasn’t necessarily a lazy individual, her marks throughout her years at Hogwarts had proved that. Her mum thought otherwise, and apparently three months of roughing it as a freelance photographer wasn’t cutting it anymore. Being a ‘proud graduate of Hogwarts’ meant she had to get a job that paid. Her mum’s words, not hers. In her defense, most places weren’t willing to give her an interview. One second in and she was bound to be a bumbling mess. No amount of being called upon in class for the last seven years could prepare her for the scrutiny and discerning look of real professionals. So there was sort of a mutual agreement when it came to the fact that they didn’t want her, and she was too nervous to want to be there either. Interviews that lead nowhere were good enough for her mum at first, but by the time September rolled around, she couldn’t take it anymore. Cordelia had the advertisement for the position practically tossed at her. She could tell from the way it was ripped out of a magazine that her mum had acquired it from one of the ones supplied to waiting patients at Mungo’s. And of course it was for The Quibbler, as a photographer. So Cordelia reached out and didn’t hear back until a week ago. They wanted to see what she could do, so they gave her a task: take a photograph of a female leprechaun. The problem? As far as she was aware, if they did exist, they weren’t going to be at this event. Every leprechaun she had seen thus far sported a curly red beard. It seemed like an impossible task, so she placed herself down on a bench outside of Madame Puddifoot’s and started to become more frustrated that such a ridiculous request would even be made in the first place. There was obviously a reason they had been so eager to send her out like this. For the first time in her life, she had a headache from work stress and not from the potent perfume permeating from the tea shop. @open ● 516 ● Killer by Phoebe Bridgers MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

kat was starting to think that the pot of gold promised was a farce. a ruse to lure the students away from the castle and down to hogsmeade just for the hell of it because she'd been doing her best to find one of the pots they'd promised and so far they were ever elusive. she knew they couldn't be easy to find but some proof that they were real would have been nice. as the group of students she'd been looking with slowly began to disappear back to the village and kat didn't take too much longer to follow them.
it was still a little weird to be here as a seventh year, the next year was going to be her last at the castle and that was the strangest part. it had been home for the last six years, more so than her own house and she didn't know she was quite ready to say goodbye to it yet. even though she had a year she knew it would go quick, they seemed to be doing that. her first year had dragged on and on but then time stopped dragging.
she stopped to grab a bag of sweets from honeydukes, figuring if she couldn't find a pot of gold the least she could do was eat and enjoy the day out in the sun before classes started. she wandered around the streets for a bit, hearing excited giggles and shouts of joy occasionally, getting caught up in the mood which was just as infectious as the warmth from the sun. though as she unrolled the bag of sweets to start eating them she spotted a familiar face that looked less than thrilled to be there.
cordelia? she thought that's what her name was. she'd been the year above kat and had graduated just last year. kat made the split second choice to walk over to her and take a seat next to her former fellow puff and she smiled slightly. "not a fan of hard to find gold and elusive leprechauns?" she asked as she settled back against the seat and pulled a sweet from the bag before holding it out and offering one to cordelia.

▲ The worst part about this trial period, by far, was the fact that the Quibbler was requiring her to use a magical camera. She had nothing against the tech, but hers was clunky and old – a far cry from the charmed, modern film camera that she had used for the last few years. They wanted a slam dunk picture of a female leprechaun, and Cordelia was positive that she was either going to be sending in a photo without a subject, or one of the male ones that were abundant in Hogsmeade currently. Then came the problem of if she found one: was her camera shutter speed fast enough to catch it before it ran off? Probably not. And her current fiddling with it while she sat on the bench was an attempt to maybe make things move a little faster. Magic cameras were charmed like crazy, and she couldn’t really set anything on it like she could her normal one. Breaking through someone else’s charms was difficult, and she was far from being an expert on re-writing spells. In the midst of poking the camera with her wand, a person approached the bench and took a seat next to her. The girl commented about the event going on, and Cordelia shook her head. Why would she be worried about trying to hunt down gold when she had a more important task at hand? “N-Not really…” she replied, sticking her wand back into her jacket pocket and letting the camera fall to its normal, hanging position around her neck. “I-I’m good, thanks,” she waved off the offer for candy. Sitting in silence for a few moments, she tried to remember who the girl was. Clearly still a student, but that didn’t really mean anything to her anymore. She could barely remember names whilst she was at Hogwarts, and aside from a few people, cared even less about retaining the ones of her graduating class. But still…maybe she could be helpful. “Do y-you think female l-leprechauns exist? I-I’m trying to t-take a p-picture of one…”

kat pulled out another sweet as her offer was turned down and she popped it into her mouth, sucking on the lemon flavoured lolly. she looked at the camera and wondered if cordelia was taking photos for the prophet or another one of the newspapers around or whether she was just taking photos for the fun of it. kat liked looking at photos but she much preferred looking at pictures that had been drawn. she enjoyed looking for stroke patterns, how they differed and the balance of colour or the choice not to use colour. there was so much more than a drawing said than a photograph, but she was well aware that was her own opinion and one of the times that she could keep it to herself. "you were in hufflepuff right?" she asked, unable to keep quiet for too long. she turned so she was sitting cross legged on the bench, facing cordelia as she rested the bag of sweets in her lap. "coredlia? i was the year under you. kat. kat krum." she said with a smile as she wrapped her arms around her knees.
then the question about female leprechauns. she'd never thought about it, not really. well it wasn't like it was a topic that came up in general conversation. but it did stand to reason that there would be female leprechauns, at least in her mind. "uhm, possibly?" she said, unsure even while she was talking. "i mean i'm not an expert but unless they just spring out the ground there would need to be a male and a female?" she said as she brushed some hair back behind her ear from her face. she wracked her brain trying to think of any information she might have seen on the small elusive creatures but she really was drawing a blank. that hogwarts education was really doing her wonders today.
"i can help you try and find one?" she asked, aware that help might not be wanted. if it wasn't she'd go find entertainment elsewhere but she wasn't doing anything else at the moment and trying to get into the mind of a tiny creature that was supposed to be giving out free galleons, well that was something that she could invest some time in looking for. "and if we can't find a female one, we'll find a male one and ask him nicely to wear a wig." she said with a slight laugh and smile.

▲ Even asking the other girl the question of whether or not there were female leprechauns sounded stupid. Cordelia knew the odds of one existing were unbelievably low, and here she was trying to complete an impossible task. If anything, the best she could do is take a bunch of pictures of the leprechauns that were around and hand them over to the Quibbler. Sort of as a way to placate her failure. As she was thinking this over, the girl introduced herself as Kat Krum, a Hufflepuff as well. “Y-You’re Ana’s sister?” Cordelia asked, even though she knew the answer to it already. Ana was a lot more…rambunctious and loud than Cordelia could ever dream to be. She had always supposed that the Krum girl was the true definition of a Hufflepuff – sociable and outgoing. While Cordelia had been thrown in since she didn’t fit anywhere else. Merlin forbid she was put in Gryffindor or Slytherin. That would have been like getting thrown into a cage of hungry lions. Unfortunately she didn’t know too many Ravenclaws, so it was hard to pinpoint what they were all about, even after having gone to school with them for seven years. There were still times where she hated her inability to interact with others until the last two years of school. But hindsight was twenty-twenty for a reason, and there was no fixing any of that now. Kat seemed to understand the predicament Cordelia was in, because it really didn’t make sense. Her own theory as that they all had beards, regardless of gender, and that there were very few differences when it came down to it. The idea that they appeared out of the ground certainly made sense too. Who really knew? “D-Do they speak English?” she questioned as she stood up from the bench when the other girl offered to help her look. Two pairs of eyes were better than one, after all. And she seemed nice enough, especially if she was Ana’s sister. @katiya ● 333 ● Sorry Now by Crimson Apple MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

she was more than used to being called that. she'd heard it all through her schooling years. irina's sister, edrik's sister and ana's sister. she didn't really mind though. it was one of the problems with being the youngest, there were many who came before you and she had to admit that her siblings were far more memorable than her. "yep, that's the one" she said with a smile and a bit of a laugh. it was also one of the downsides of having a last name that was both famous and well known in the quidditch world. it seemed that everyone just seemed to pair 'krum' with 'quidditch' and none seemed to really understand when she said that she hated the game. well she didn't hate it really, she just found it as boring as watching pain dry. she cheered her family on but she had never really wanted to watch the games. it was like that was unnatural to some people.
did they speak english? that one was a little harder to have an answer for, at least without thinking about it for a while. she stood up from the bench and tucked her hands into the pocket of her jacket and thought for a second. "maybe not. they could speak irish?" she pondered as she started to walk down the path. "but perhaps they speak in the language of the person that see's them?" she pondered out loud as she thought about it. she'd never really thought about the language that leprechauns spoke in, she'd never met one so she'd never had a reason to. "i guess we'll find out when we find one." she said with a smile as she reached out to brush her fingers along the top of the fence that ran along the path. "so how long do you have to get the shot?"

▲ Aside from being roommates with Ana for seven years, Cordelia didn’t know much about the older Krum girl. She was certainly nice, but there were times where Ana felt overbearing. Not nearly to the degree that Lily got to, yet they were eerily similar. It had to do with the amount of energy that she had for everything. Cordelia was positive that in her current, more outgoing state, she probably wouldn’t mind seeing Ana on a daily basis. The first couple years of school weren’t nearly the same way. Thankfully that was said and done now. Having to go back and repeat, Cordelia knew of ways to push towards bettering herself that would work for when she was younger. Lily, and probably Ana to a degree, would most likely be the keys to succeeding on that front. “Is she p-playing Quidditch now?” Cordelia asked after letting her thoughts settle. It only made sense that the girl would, being a Krum. The leprechauns were a different story altogether. Now that she was realizing that they might not even be able to properly communicate with her, her task was starting to feel impossible. Kat’s comments on their language didn’t help, because she didn’t know anyone that spoke Gaelic, and it only drilled into her the idea that her job was not possible to complete. But the girl’s added comment on finding out when they eventually found a leprechaun instilled a smidge of hope. Cordelia followed her, getting up from the bench, then down the path. “Until this event is over I-I s-suppose…” she responded as she walked behind the Krum girl. Fiddling with her camera lens, Cordelia popped the cap off of it again, and stared through the viewfinder. Not like that would help much on a film camera. She had grown accustomed to using her digital out in the muggle world. Relying on tech was great when it came to capturing the best shots, but she still enjoyed the old-school methods more. Hopefully the camera would be quick enough to capture a leprechaun though… @katiya ● 343 ● Elizabeth by Ghost MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0
