September 2025 She hadn't been inside for very long when she heard the sound of laughter and noticed a redheaded young man who hadn't been there when she had entered the building. "Hello!" he spoke, in the way that he was either overly friendly or thought that he recognized her somehow. Blair knew that she should have been used to hearing foreign accents around, considering that hers was technically foreign to most of the people she encountered anymore, but she couldn't figure out what his was if not some sort of Irish… or maybe from the more highland parts of Scotland? Like a brogue? She guessed that would have made sense; Hogwarts and Hogsmeade were pretty far into Scotland. "Hey," Blair greeted him back, her voice much more subdued than his. She wasn't there to volunteer or get a guided tour or whatever it was they did for visitors. She also was operating under the assumption that he worked there. He seemed like he probably did, considering that he didn't stand out as much as a girl with jet black hair with purple ends, tattoos, and piercings. He was dressed much closer to what she would have said was Whiskey's aesthetic, though that frame of reference probably didn't make much sense for anyone who didn't know her ex-girlfriend. But if he worked there, she was hoping that he could at least lead her to her or something. Blair didn't really know how this was supposed to work, now that she was standing inside her ex-girlfriend's workplace. She didn't need her; it wasn't so urgent that it was an emergency, but she hoped that she hadn't arrived just as Whiskey had resumed work from her break or something like that. "Um, I'm actually looking for somebody?" Blair began, hopefully before the guy had readied himself to give whatever speech to visitors they normally gave. "Her name's Whiskey Earp?"Aidan Evander Ó Cuinn

Aidan had smiled widely to accompany his enthusiastic greeting when he first saw the witch with the sandwich again. She’d been very affectionate with him, giving him pats and bits of her food, as well as being very free with compliments. Her tone of voice had been very light too, free from whatever had been worrying her as she cooed over him in his dog form. Her tone of voice was much more subdued now, almost timid, as she returned his hello very simply. His smile turned slightly confused and he tilted his head curiously (almost like a dog might) at the change in attitude. Had something happened on the way over here? Or was she like this with most people? It was a shame because Aidan considered himself very harmless overall, so he didn’t see why she needed to be so reserved.
He opened his mouth to say something, but she must have anticipated that he would want to speak because she quickly spoke again before he could interrupt. Looking for Whiskey? Wonderful! Aidan knew the other girl, since they were coworkers and both interested in becoming magical veterinarians one day (and she was remarkably patient with him trying to pronounce her name with his heavy accent). As a result of their apprenticeship, they did tend to work together more than others at the reserve. But, taking care of the animals could be a solitary job. The reserve did cover a large area, and they had many creatures to tend to. The nature of their job meant they had to check on all of them regularly, so it wasn’t uncommon to spend a lot of time apart.
“I know Whiskey,” he confirmed brightly, taking care to copy how the witch had pronounced her name. She had an accent too, more similar to Whiskey’s than any of the British, but it still sounded different. Whiskey was from America, so maybe this witch was too. Even if it didn’t sound like the same kind of American accent. Aidan could get a headache trying to figure out where everybody was from. They were foreigners, not from Hy-Brasil, and that was all he needed most of the time. But he heard so much English that it was helpful to know who to copy in trying to improve his own. He’d selected a few coworkers who spoke impressively well, and he tended to ask them odd questions just to hear how they’d answer.
At any rate, Aidan frowned slightly as he remembered the change in the witch’s demeanor from the last time he’d seen her (only a few minutes ago, really). “Why sad?” Aidan asked, gesturing with his hand at her as he contemplated this new mystery. “You seem happy before, but not now.” It was hard to express himself in English, but he thought he’d gotten the hang of the basics. Surely she’d understand what he was asking. Had someone upset her? Had she lost the sandwich? There could only be a few things in life to make someone look so nervous. Maybe this was why she wanted to see Whiskey. But Aidan was determined to get to the bottom of this.

September 2025 "I know Whiskey." Well, that was a start. Blair figured that she probably could have done without the young man's enthusiasm. She mostly just needed to meet with Whiskey and explain to her what had happened to her. It would be an awkward conversation, and she was prepared for that. (How was anyone supposed to have a quick in-and-out conversation with their ex about their having been mugged?) Blair knew that it was weird that she was there and that she hadn't sent an owl or something, but she wasn't really prepared for the young man's next comments. Why was she sad? She seemed happy before, he told her, but not at that moment. That was… not the question that Blair had anticipated. She didn't know when or where she had seen him before. Had he been spying on her? What was this? (Besides bordering on creepy, she couldn't say.) Not trying to get herself too worked up over one comment, she tried to think through what it was that he might have meant. He didn't seem completely fluent in English, so maybe that was part of it, but Blair drew a blank on what else he might have been trying to say. Had Whiskey been showing her co-workers photos from when the two of them were together? "…With Whiskey, you mean?" Blair asked him, completely uncertain and pretty uncomfortable with the whole thing but determined to get to the bottom of it. "Um… We dated, yeah," she explained, running a hand through her hair, "but not anymore…"Aidan Evander Ó Cuinn

There…must have been a breakdown in communication somewhere. It happened quite often to Aidan, since he didn’t really have a knack for languages and had never shown much interest in improving his English. He’d only really spoken Brasilic growing up on Hy-Brasil, with some Sami thrown in because of his mother’s background and the fact that she’d speak more often in her own language than any other. His English had improved by leaps and bounds compared to what it was two years ago, all things considered, but Aidan actually didn’t practice much. He could do the majority of his work at the nature reserve with minimal speaking opportunities, as long as he listened carefully to the veterinarians. And he hadn’t made many non-druid friends, besides the friendly outings he sometimes went on with his coworkers.
So he knew enough to get by, but not enough to catch whatever mistake must have occurred here. He stared blankly at the witch as she explained that she and Whiskey had dated, although they didn't anymore, which was interesting to know but not related to what he had asked. He repeated mentally what he had said, then compared her answer to his question. The thinking made his head hurt and he stopped before he could get a headache. “…okay,” he finally said, his confusion woven into the single word. He and Whiskey had never really talked about their dating lives, so she’d never mentioned whoever this witch must be to him. But he had no reason to expect that she’d lie about something like that, so he accepted it as true information. He couldn't imagine it ever coming up in a future conversation with Whiskey, but it was good to remember details about people anyway. It showed you cared, after all!
Still, he was very confused about the new direction this conversation seemed to be going. But he was definitely the kind of guy who liked to go with the flow, so he accepted it without further question and moved on. Aidan remembered that the witch had had a sandwich with her, and his face brightened as a new thought occurred to him. “Ah, so sandwich for Whiskey?” he asked, feeling very clever at putting the two observations together. He nodded at the thought. "It very good. She will like it." It would make sense, if the witch had wanted to bring lunch to her girlfriend (ex-girlfriend?). The reserve was a lovely place to enjoy a meal, as long as you didn’t let any creatures steal it from you. Like adorable dogs, for example. He’d thought originally the witch had meant to eat the sandwich herself, before she’d shared some with him, but maybe she was the kind of person who liked to show their love through gifts and doing things for others. If that was the case, then Aidan was very happy to point her in the right direction. Especially since he was technically at work and shouldn't wait too long before tracking down his gloves to continue doing said work.
