Beatrice felt a few different emotions while waiting to see what Jaspers’ response would be. Nerves, of course were at the forefront, but also apprehension whether this was a good idea, mixed with a tingle of excitement to spend some time with him. She had seen Jasper a handful of times over the years of course, but less and less as the years went by and they had settled into the busy schedules of their professions. Beatrice was a self-proclaimed workaholic and had wanted the elusive Quidditch correspondent position for a British team since the first week of work at the Daily Prophet. They had decided to go their separate ways after school, and while Beatrice had agreed, she had spent the night crying in her fathers’ arms. Not that she would ever let Jasper know about that.
Bea smiled widely when Jasper agreed, and she let out an exhale she hadn’t realized she was holding in. “Wonderful,” she proclaimed, clasping her hands together with excitement. Calming herself down, she pondered his question - what did she want to see first? She knew there was a stall nearby that would satisfy her sweet tooth, but after her lunch she wasn’t quite ready to stop there. Part of her wanted to suggest the Witches Brew for a little liquid luck, but she didn’t want to push it. “Either the Haunted Forest or the Corn Maze,” she finally decided, turning to face Jasper. “Whichever you think is better,” she added, allowing the final decision to fall to him.

Going their separate ways after graduation had bene hard on Jasper, though he wouldn't admit it. He through himself into work, forcing his mind to focus on the task at hand, instead of the pain of losing Beatrice. Would he admit this now? Absolutely not. The description had been mutual, they had both agreed to it. It had been for the best, hadn't it? Each had gone their separate ways, and over time began to focus more on their choices.
He had agreed to show the woman around, and her smile made him question if they had made the right decision. But he wasn't going to bring it up now. All he did was smile in return. She had chosen to go to either the Haunted Forest, or the Corn Maze. But now it was his chance to decide which. He chuckled. "Alright, let's go to the Corn Maze." If they went into the Haunted side, then there was a chance that she would get scared and cling onto him. But if not, he always liked a good puzzle. The Island was all fun and games, competed to the high stakes tombs he once traversed.
With a smile he stood up and offered his arm "Shall we?"

Beatrice nodded in approval when Jasper decided on the corn maze. That was probably the safer bet as she was a little bit of a scaredy cat sometimes, and clutching onto Jasper the entire time didn’t seem to be the best idea. This was the first time they had been face to face in years after all. Taking his arm, she let him lead her to the corn maze, which promised twists and turns with a few scares and illusions inside. Taking a deep breath, she laughed it out. “Alright, let’s do this!” she exclaimed, putting on a brave face.
Stepping through the archway, they entered the corn maze. Beatrice knew she was short, but she really couldn’t see anything except the tall corn stalks and the blue sky above. The clouds rolled lazily above them, but Beatrice remembered that there were supposed to be illusions in the maze, so she turned her attention back to the path in front of them. She hadn’t seen anything pop out at them yet, but she was on her guard. They came to a fork, and Beatrice heard screams coming from down the left fork. “I think we should go right,” she told him, laughing shakily. She realized she was still holding onto his arm, and she let go, albeit reluctantly.

There was something so right about Beatrice taking his arm. While the two had corresponded over the years, it had been quite some time since they had been like this. It was nice, having pleasant conversations, and being face to face. With the two being arm in arm, Jasper lead her to the Corn maze, not feeling like a professor, but like a curse breaker.
As they stood at the entrance, Beatrice put on a brave face and seemed ready to go in. With a chuckle Jasper smiled at her "Don't worry, I'll protect you." He teased her. It just felt so natural. With that, the two entered the arch way. It hadn't been long until the fork came. There was a choice, haunted or just a maze. The latter sounded kind of boarding for Jasper, but he smiled and laughed. "Don't tell me your scared?" He teased. "But if that's what you want." He was a little sad that she had let go of his arm, but they weren't together. They were just friends now. He tried not to let it show.

Beatrice made a face at him. “Listen, suspenseful thrillers may be my thing, but jump scares? I will scream like a little girl and I will not be shamed for that,” she said, smacking his arm playfully. She didn’t realize that she’d done that until a few seconds later; it just felt natural. She had done that all the time when they were together; after not seeing him for so many years, it was strange how natural the two of them were together, albeit slightly awkward.
She sighed, pretending to be dramatic. “Alright, we’ll do it your way,” she said, then turned down the left fork like he wanted. For the first minute or two, it seemed like the screams may have just been some students playing pranks on the other, so Bea let herself relax a little bit. What a mistake that was. As they turned the corner, a giant snake whipped its’ head towards the pair and let out a warning hiss, unfurling itself as it loomed above them. Beatrice screamed; snakes were her biggest fear. “NOPE! NOPE! I CAN’T! KILL IT WITH FIRE!” she yelled slightly incoherently, taking a trembling leap behind Jasper and grabbing his arms in an almost painful vice. She knew it was probably an illusion but...why did it have to be a snake?

Jasper just felt so relaxed with Beatrice by his side. He felt more and more like a teenager again. He laughed as she playfully hit his arm. This, here and there, just felt right. They were just friends now. He needed to remember that. Though she did agree to go down the spookier path. He wasn't far behind her, not knowing exactly what was coming up, but he carefully watched for signs and wasn't surprised when anything came up.
As they went down the path, Jasper felt himself tensing up. It hadn't been long since he had returned from curse breaking, and habits were hard to break. As they turned a corner, A giant snake jumped out, hissing at the pair. He would have laughed, but he knew that she was scared of the thing. With a wave of his wand, the magic temporarily dissipated, until the next group came and triggered it. He turned to her with a smile. "It's all gone now, feel brave enough to keep moving? I promise I'll protect you."

Beatrice peaked out from behind Jasper to see that he dissipated the snake. She breathed a huge sigh of relief, then felt her cheeks redden substantially. Of course it was fake, this was a ‘haunted’ maze, and while she knew ghosts were real from her time at Hogwarts, the island was not actually haunted. There were not, in fact, giant snakes wiggling around the island, but simple illusions. “I hate snakes,” she mumbled sheepishly, embarrassed by her outburst.
“Yes, as long as no other snakes jump out I’ll be alright,” she said, putting on a brave face. She had never been a fan of jump scares, but Jasper being by her side made it feel alright. They walked along the maze, and aside from some spiders that Beatrice jumped at, there wasn’t anything as bad as the snake. Finally, after what felt like a lifetime and a few seconds, they reached the maze exit. "So, what's next? Or do you have to get back to the castle, I don't want to keep you if you have to leave..." she asked, looking up at him. She didn’t want to take up all of his free time, but she also wasn’t quite ready to leave him yet.

Jasper saw Beatrice's face start to blush, mumbling that she hated snakes, he gave her an endearing look. "I know." He said softly. She mentioned not seeing any more snakes, and he thought about it. "You shouldn't, but I'll get rid of any if it happens again" He offered.
Little scared him now. A simple maze with jump scares seemed like it would be good training for wanna be curse breakers. But he was old and experienced. His mind had quickly returned to the state, though he knew there was no need in breaking any of the enchantments.
The two continued through the maze, she jumped a few more times, and every time, he rushed to dispel the illusion that had caused it. In time, they reached the end. She seemed excited to continue, but did seem to understood if he needed to head out. He looked up at the sky, guessing by the position of the moon that it had gotten quite late. He looked back at her, not wanting to leave her side. But he had responsibilities. "I should get heading back. There's a few things I need to do before lessons start up again." He looked into her endless dark eyes, not wanting to go. But even as a teenager he had had responsibilities that pulled him away from her. "But w-we should do this again sometime. Well, not this," He said, motioning around him. "but this." He motioned to the two of them. It was fun to see her again. A part of him wished it was more, but held back. They were friends, nothing more.

Beatrice deflated slightly when Jasper mentioned he should be heading back. She understood of course; as a professor he had responsibilities to the school and his students, and that had to come first. “Of course, I understand. I’m sure the students love your classes,” she said, adding in the last part in a slightly rushed tone. She had been toying with the idea of flattery, but didn’t know if it was proper, so it just blurted out before she could stop herself.
Beatrice stopped walking when he suggested doing this again sometime, stammering a little on his words. So he had been nervous too? Bea felt almost relieved at this revelation; both had been nervous but hadn’t really voiced that to the other. “Oh yes,” she breathed, then cleared her throat. “I’d like to,” she added, her voice more level this time. She whipped out her small pad of paper and pen, which she carried with her at all times, and jotted something down. “Here’s my address,” she said, ripping off the piece of paper and handing it to him. “So you know, your owl knows where to find me,” she added with a small, hopeful smile.

It wasn't that Jasper wanted to leave, but he wasn't a teenager who would happily break curfew to walk the girl to her house. Though being here tonight with Beatrice, he felt like he was seventeen again. Unfortunately, he wasn't. It was a sad realization, but he was an adult, and a professor. He was busy on a good day. That was before the lack of sleep. He gave an unsure smile as she mentioned that his students must love his class. Feeling his face burning at the compliment. "Well, it's only been a few months, but I hope they do." He combed his fingers though his hair, scratching his head a bit. He was confident as a charms professor, but wasn't confident on how the students liked or took it. Jasper was so caught up with her words, that he didn't stop to think of how they were said.
He mentioned doing them again, and the woman stopped. Taking half a step to realize it, Jasper turned to face her. His face formed a wide smile as she said she'd like that as well. He had to make sure that he wasn't getting ahead of himself. They weren't together, they were only friends. But it was really nice to see her again. Their correspondence though owl in the past helped him feel as though their friendship had flourished. But having her in his presence once again brought so much more back than her letters had. He took the paper, happily feeling her fingers grazing his own. "Thanks. And well, guess it's not that hard to find me." He had been living at the castle after all.
There was a pause, as Jasper took one last look at his old flame. But he couldn't sand their staring forever. He bid her good night and had to leave. Ensuring the paper that she had given him was safe, he took a portkey, back to the small village near the castle. Those students who had transported with him happily started to move back towards Hogwarts. Jasper, with a slower pace, started making his way back, a stupid smile plastered on his face as he pulled the paper out and looked over it again.
