September 2025 Working at the Ministry of Magic was strange sometimes. Scorpius didn't see himself as a "government" type, necessarily, and the Atrium was always packed with officials who were far more important and powerful than he. Being an employee of the Magical Artefacts Development and Testing Office didn't give him the sort of status that his family might have wanted for him, but he really wasn't looking to do something for the status alone. He didn't want that, because he actually did enjoy tinkering with things. He might not have been the one writing up the legislation or anything like that, but that wasn't his strong suit.
His office, for what it was worth, was newer and far less formal than some of the more established offices, which Scorpius also preferred. That wasn't to say that he was some kind of a slacker; he just found it uncomfortable to be around so many people whose expectations of him were unnecessarily colored by his family's past.
At least no one really conversed in the Ministry lifts, he thought, following in a group of other workers who had also just arrived for the day.

Deva had a fairly quiet week, well, so far. She had the feeling that shit was going to hit the fan for it had been far too quiet lately. Still, the morning at work was as expected from before work had started. Keeping the magical world hidden from the muggles was a chore in and of itself and well, the work was going to get itself done. Sometimes she wished it would. It was all fine that there was enough work to ensure she'd never have to be out of a job but this calm before the storm kind of scenario did nothing for her nerves. Something bad was coming, it almost had to be. Either in work or something really bad was going to be going down in her private life soon. Maybe another fight with Rhys? That front had been relatively quiet of late and it always gave her some jitters. It seemed like they were just destined to fight forever and she was more or less done with it. It was hard to keep caring for somebody so determinded to push you away. Still, she knew she'd keep trying to get through that unbelievably thick skull of his. She stepped into the elevator as she considered this, not paying much attention to those around her. "Men and their thick skulls..." She muttered to herself as she pushed the button to her floor. At the last moment somebody shoved their way into the elevator, rudely shoving her to the side. She was highly irritated and shot him a look that he clearly chose to ignore but otherwise did nothing. It didn't seem worth it. People like that would never change. Or if they did she'd never experienced it. She'd been half shoved into somebody else so she politely smiled at him. "Excuse me for that." It was far easier to take the blame. She just didn't want the drama of the other route. He as probably high ranking anyway. Those always thought they could get away with anything. scorpius hyperion malfoy

September 2025 Being in the Ministry lifts wasn't the greatest part of the day for Scorpius when he was at work, but how else was anyone supposed to get around the place? It was organized chaos, to put it mildly. He didn't actually know how many workers there were in the Ministry in total, but there were enough departments that it wasn't hard to feel claustrophobic when just about everyone else was trying to get to the exact same places. It wasn't even that many stories; the Ministry itself was built into the ground instead of up in the air like one of the Muggle skyscrapers, and Scorpius also didn't quite understand how they put up with buildings that were dozens of stories into the air.
At least maybe they would have had a view from all the way up there, he thought, because he certainly didn't have a view other than the backs of people's heads from where he was. He had barely gotten into the lift and turned around to face the front of it when even more people attempted to squeeze themselves inside what was already a very confined space. Unfortunately, from what he could see of how they were dressed, they were either higher-ranking officials or people who thought that they should have been, which meant that they gave little thought to anyone else's comfort.
Scorpius gave them what little additional space he could, though he was already standing shoulder to shoulder with some of the other employees. It wasn't the worst experience that he had ever had at work, but it wasn't the most positive start. It looked even worse for someone else, though, as the doors to the lift practically shut on them as they shoved their way inside. Scorpius, who didn't understand the hurry when there were so many lifts coming and going, tried not to show the distaste on his face when he saw that the late arrival had bumped into a young woman, which then caused her to bump into him.
"Excuse me for that." Trying to take the blame for it, it was the young woman who apologized to him. Scorpius knew that it wasn't her fault, since he had seen the incident for himself, and he certainly wasn't going to take offense to being jostled a little. She wasn't the one who had forced her way in without a good reason to have done so.
"No, no. Sorry, I should have moved over," Scorpius mentioned back to her, not that he had had much room to avoid the collision. Before long, it would have been something of a domino effect; one person would have hit another, and it would have been a mess. "Might want to hold on, though," he added to her, just as a general word of caution. The lifts didn't provide the smoothest ride under the best of circumstances, and it was best to grab one of the ropes overhead.
