It was Friday after noon, classes were over for the week. And while many students should be using their time to finish up their homework for the next week, Jasper knew that most weren't. He, as a teacher, had stuck to his classroom. The last lesson of the day had ended with messy results. He used a simple cleaning charm. As the magic got set to work, Jasper settled at his desk to grade some homework he had received. He knew that dinner would be starting soon, and he would make his way to the great hall. It wasn't required, but it was good to see students in a more relaxed side, and show the students a different side too. But if he didn't make it, he could easily have some house elves bring him something later.
He stopped to inspect the look of the room, things looked good, the spell had done it's work. Looking back down, it didn't seem to take long for the Charms room door to open.

@jasper it was moments like these that he was grateful that he was what he was. the extra stamina he had because of it came in handy when you had to run away from situations. especially situations he'd created. it had started out as a typical discussion at breakfast that morning. he'd been sitting with silver and had hypothetically asked the ravenclaw how one might put out a fire in say the main stairwell of the school. because of course that was a huge thread when everything was made of stone. but the idea's had been placed, the spells bounces back and forth between them and sunday had left breakfast with the knowledge of what he could do.
it had taken all of five minutes after class had finished for him to decide that he was going to try it. why? because he could. and because he wanted to see what it would look like to have water running from the top of the roof down to the bottom level of the stairs. it had worked a little too well. rather than one stream of water there was now a continuous stream of water gushing from the roof and running to the bottom of the stairs, gushing through the halls and running down almost every staircase. the problem was that he didn't know how to stop it. he and silver hadn't really gone over how one would stop the water.
so here he was, running through the halls of hogwarts, slipping around corners and drenched from head to toe because he'd done all he could to try and stop the water. he knew he was going to face probably a weekend of detention but it had been worth it to see what it looked like. he heard footsteps behind him and without a second thought ducked into the room on his right and he slammed the door closed behind him. he rested his hands on his knees for a second to catch his breath before he looked up to see what room he was in. it was then he spotted someone, a teacher no less and he almost jumped out of his skin. "ah shi.." he caught himself before the word slipped out. "professor yaxley." he said. how had not known this was the charms classroom. he was still slightly breathless as he tried his best to look casual while standing there, dripping with water and trying not to look like he was guilty of anything.

As Jasper looked up to see who had entered the classroom, he saw a younger student, and to say his appetence was strange... The youngest Weekly seemed to be dripping head to toe. It wasn't the strangest sight that Jasper had ever bumped into, but Hogwarts was a far cry from ruins he once worked. Jasper watched the young man, out of breath. It took a moment for the young man to noticed him standing there.
The young man then tried to act nonchalant about things, which only made Jasper curious. He was sure that something was going on. "Hello Mr. Weekly." He turned to fully face the young man. "What seems to be the matter?"

@jasper so he was fairly sure this day would end with him in detention and something of a letter sent home to his parents. it was just the way it seemed to be going but if it happened them it wasn't the end of the world. he'd had letters written home before, it was almost like he couldn't help himself. he stepped forward, resting his hands on his sides as he kept trying to catch his breath and he nodded a little as professor yaxley said his name. "i don't think anything's the matter." he said with a shrug and he raised his hands from his sides for a second before placing them back. "but theoretically though .. if a student say .. created a waterfall in the main stairwell ... how would they stop it?" he asked, as casually as he possibly could as if the fact he was dripping wet wouldn't give it away that he was the student in question. but he'd learned, innocent even when guilty. it was just one of the weapons in his arsenal for keeping his punishments smaller. it would prove a valuable lesson to him though, when theorizing if something was possible, come up with a half decent plan to reverse or counteract it before he actually cast the spell.

Jasper took another moment to observe the boys wet appearance. Something had to have happened. He couldn't wait to see how he tried to get his way out of this one. The fact that the young man was quite out of breath didn't help his case. The boy said that nothing was the matter and Jasper cocked an eyebrow, unbelieving. It didn't take long for more information to come out.
The teacher took a moment to think about it. "Perhaps trying a spell such as that outside would have been wiser. Also knowing how to stop it if things got out of hand." He walked up to the young man. "Why don't we go to the main stair well together."

@jasper sunday raked his hand through his wet hair as he stood there, half wishing he'd had the sense to run into an empty room and not one that had had a teacher in it. though he figured if any teacher could help stop the water flowing in the main stairwell then it was the charms one. he didn't figure lying would help his case so he didn't figure he should. he'd done what he'd done and now he needed to stop it and hopefully smile his way out of any punishment but if he got punished he'd take it. it was the danger of pushing limits. getting caught and punished.
he nodded a little and raised his hand with a slight smile. "you know i was just thinking that!" he said as he squeezed a little water from his shirt. "but i didn't get that far, it's a problem." he said as he turned to open the door he'd closed so quickly behind him. he stepped out into the hall and saw a few students that were also dripping from head to toe and he grimaced a little. he looked back at his professor and he grinned just slightly, not cocky, just trying to be almost endearing before they got to the the carnage of a flooded stairwell. "you can swim right?" he joked as they walked towards the main stairwell, rounding the corner sunday saw the water falling in all it's glory gushing down through the middle of the space.

Jasper wasn't one who enjoyed dishing out punishments. But it was something he had done, even in his later years as a student. Now that he was older, he could dish out punishments that fit the crime that had been done. It seemed as though the young Mr. Weekly understood that what he had done was wrong, but still. First though, came resolving the situation at hand. The longer they waited, the wetter the castle was going to become.
The young man opened the door and smiled sweetly at Jasper. That wouldn't help. The professor followed the young man out of the Charms classroom, noting other wet students. As he suspected, it was best to resolve the matter before continuing. Walking towards the main stair well, the young man joked about swimming. He sighed, yes, he could swim. In fact, his animagus form, Tiger, was one of the only known big cat to enjoy a regular swim. "Let's hope it doesn't come to that."
Rounding the corner, they saw it. Gushing water and drenched surroundings. Some students moving away, others trying to pass through. Without a second though Jasper whipped out his wand and wordlessly broke the enchantment. Water stopped and with a second wave, things started to dry. As the magic worked, Jasper turned to the young man. "I think I'll have to take 20 points from Slytherin." He never enjoyed taking points away, especially from his old house, but it had to be done. "And you'll have two weeks of detention. I'd also like a paper on the spell you used, the right, and wrong ways to use it, along with how to break the spell. By the end of the week." It seemed harsh, but the boy would learn form it. "And let's make this a solely theoretical paper, and hold off form more water works." He smiled softly to the young man.

@jasper it didn't take long for professor yaxley to get rid of the waterfall. he leaned over the banister and watched as the water slowly dried up, stopped flowing and the surrounding areas started to dry out and the water seemed to vanish into thin air. it had been amazing while it lasted and while he knew that he shouldn't have done it and he should have at least attempted it outside it was cool to say he'd actually been able to do it. with the water gone he knew it was time to face whatever music he was about to face and he stood up and turned on his heel a little to look at the professor.
twenty points wasn't so bad. he could live with that. what he couldn't live without doing was adding in just one little comment. "how about adding ten points for creativity and ingenuity?" he joked a little as he rocked back on his heels slightly. he didn't think it would actually happen and he ran the risk of losing the ten points he'd mentioned but he just couldn't help it. it was like the words had formed on the tip of his tongue and then just rolled out on their own. well the paper sounded reasonable and not that hard to write out he did have one question. "don't suppose you can tell me the spell you used to get rid of it?" he said with a small grin. "oh so i shouldn't go turning the greenhouses into a pool or turning the stairs down to the forest into a stream?" there it was again, the words that rolled out of his mouth before he really thought about them.

The boy was amazed by the magic Jasper had done, childsplay for a master of charms. But as everything returned to it's normal state, the boy turned to him. Now it was time. Docking twenty points was just, though the boy tried to get half of it back "for creativity." Cheeky, but it wouldn't work. "Should I make it 50?" He gave a not so serious grin. Perhaps he would have been given points had he done it outside to prevent a fire, and then tactfully was able to turn it off by himself. But it had clearly caused a number of issues, for school, students and staff alike.
The next step was to ensure the young man understood what went wrong, and what to do if it happened again, though if it did, Jasper would be sure to give a harsher punishment, as well as send a letter to his parents. Sunday Weekly asked a question that Jasper had been anticipating. "And deprive you of the fun of figuring it out yourself?" He smiled, a little mischief in his eyes. Jasper loved puzzles, he had spent eleven years solving, working and deflecting so many things. Things that his students could rarely imagine. "I suppose, though I don't think you'd want to see the consequences if it happens again."

@jasper he couldn't help but let out a small laugh when the professor asked it he wanted to make it fifty. well that's what he got for opening his mouth. his father had always told him it might get him into real trouble one day. not that this counted as something he'd call 'real trouble' but it was a sign that his father might have been right. "perhaps not." he said as he shook his head a little. "i don't want to have to sleep with one eye open tonight if i lose that many points." because the desire to win the house cup was strong, and he didn't like his chances of making it through the night if some of his housemates found out he'd lost that many points.
"you teachers really do like these 'learning moments' don't you?" he said as he rested his arms on the railing before him, watching the stairwell slowly start to dry out before them. he didn't really mind finding out what the spell was. he didn't hate investigative work and research, but it had been worth a try to ask at least. there was a saying that if you didn't ask you'd never know and he did like to stick to that. he did also like to stick to the 'better to ask forgiveness than permission' and in all honesty that seemed to be the one he usually lived his life by. "would it be something like 50 points, detention shovelings something disgusting in the forbidden forest and a 10 page essay on the dangers of causing potentially dangerous flooding indoors?"

As expected, the young man didn't seem to like the idea of losing so many points for his house. The Slytherin Alumni couldn't help but chuckle as the boy mentioned sleeping with one eye open for loving points. Hogwarts did well at instilling competition between houses, with points, and quidditch. And some took it more seriously than others.
"you teachers really do like these 'learning moments' don't you?" Jasper couldn't help but smile down at the boy. He too leaned against the railing next to Sunday. Ensuring that the magic did it's task correctly. "It's what we live for." He said half sarcastically, a mild look on his face. The familiar castle in his view, but his mind far away in a tomb in Rome. A place where he practically lived over the years. Before his accident, his world was filled with adventure, puzzles, and having to constantly be aware of your surroundings, and always ready for something bad to happen. Now? Now he was a professor .
The student attempted a guess of if it happened next time and Jasper peered over to the boy again, brought back from his past to the present. "We'll just have to see if it happens. But thanks for the ideas." All of which seemed mild to the life of a curse breaker. But to a fifth year student, perhaps that was the worse he could think of.

@jasper he did want to help his house win the cup this year. there was a competative edge he felt here that he hadn't felt at his old school. it was one of the reasons he didn't want to go back. even once they could he was still leaning towards staying here. it would be hard without his family of siblings but he knew he'd be able to go home and see them if they went home. he liked the school here and he did feel something more settled here than he had back home. though it hadn't stopped the risks, the rewards and the excitement of the unknown. that desire to test boundaries and push limits would never leave him.
"i thought that was just a myth." he said with somewhat of a grin as he watched the last of the water float up to the top of the staircase and vanish into think air like the rest of it had. "it was at least somewhat cool though." he said as he tapped his fingers lightly against the stone railing. there would be some that didn't think so. such as the students that had been drenched by the water and those that were now probably drying out pages and books with spells. and of course it wasn't anything spectacular but it had been cool, at least to him.
well that was a challenge and it wasn't one, sunday thought with a grin and he looked back at his professor. "i've been told my curiosity will get me killed one day, but there is just something about finding what i don't know out that i can't resist." he said as he stood up a little straighter. "so i can't promise i won't be tempted to find out what they'll be." he couldn't lie and say he wouldn't. there was too big a possibility that he'd get caught up in the moment. his mother had once said that self awareness was important and he had to admit he agreed with her.

Jasper gave a light chuckle. Some teachers loved giving punishments, while others only did what they felt was just. "It's just as true as the rumors floating around about big cats roaming the halls at night." Giving another small chuckle at the sentiment. It was no secret that teachers and some students patrolled the halls at night. From the start of the year, whispers of large animals stalking the halls spread, especially to the trouble makers. Were the rumors true? Well, occasionally. The culprits? Renfri and yours truly. Renfri did it for mobility, her limp dominant arm was useless in human form. Jasper did it for very different reasons.
With the water dissipating back to the same nowhere it seemed to come from Jasper smiled at the boy. "Would have been cool. If it hasn't gotten out of control." He playfully noted to the student.
The boy mentioned that he had a knack for learning what he didn't know and Jasper thought. "You could make a fantastic curse breaker. That is, if you learned the subtle art of observation and some caution." Those young curse breakers who lacked the ability to slow down and look, and those who acted before observing were the ones that usually ended up severely injured, or dead. The boy also mentioned that he may be tempted to find out what further punishments would be and Jasper nodded. "With this all cleaned up, and your punishment decided, for today, I should be heading back. I'll be awaiting your paper."

@jasper when jasper mentioned the big cats rumor, sunday couldn't help but shake his head a little. while some students were happy to believe that was a rumor, sunday knew it was true. he'd seen at least one of the large cats mentioned. he didn't know if he should mention that he'd seen them, lest it result in another detention but he didn't think think that professor yaxley would slug him twice. so he threw caution to the wind and he looked at his teacher. "see that's not just a rumor. it's true." he said as he leaned his arms against the railing.
"yeah well that part wasn't planned." he said as he watched the hall below become totally devoid of water. it had been interesting to watch, cool to do and a little freaky when he hadn't been able to stop it but that didn't change the fact that he'd loved almost every second of it. the learning and the excitement at doing something he hadn't done before. it was something like a drug to him.
"really?" he said thoughtfully as the topic of being a fabulous curebreaker was brought up. he'd not really thought too much about it as a career. he was so set on what he wanted to do that he didn't think wild horses would be able to change his mind. "maybe as a hobby?" he said as he shrugged a little. "i already know what i want to do." he said as he kept his gaze locked firmly down into the depths of the hall. he hadn't told many people at hogwarts about what he wanted to do, after all it was an admission of what he was and while he knew people knew what he was, it wasn't something he was going to broadcast. "i want to study law."
then the conversation shifted again and he found himself nodding as the professor said that they'd leave it there, since the problem was gone. "i'll have it done in by next class."

The boy mentioned, with conviction that it wasn't just a rumor. With fainting surprise, Jasper spoke, "Really? What makes you say that?" It wouldn't be unheard of that the student had seen one while he had snuck out. If that was the case, he knew that the kid had been careful and not caught for it. Though, he couldn't help but wonder if he had seen the jaguar or the tiger.
He chuckled as the boy mentioned that he hadn't planned for the spell to get out of control. "It's important to take everything into consideration. Doing things on impulse can get people hurt." As a former curse breaker, he knew that all to well. "Your lucky the worst thing to happen was everyone getting wet."
Jasper mentioned that Sunday had the makings of turning into a curse breaker, if he chose that path. He smiled at the young man and nodded as the kid questioned it. Chuckling as the student mentioned a hobby. "I've never heard of someone opting to do the dangerous career as 'a hobby'." He would never lie to any student about how dangerous it was. If anyone questioned it, he would be more than happy to tell them of the numerous injuries, scars, broken bones, cureses, and the reasons for many who have returned, and why. Some were physically obvious like Renfri, and others, like his, not so much. He was always interested in what the students thought of doing once they graduated. The young man mentioned that he wanted to study the law. He had interacted with lawyers while working for Gringotts, it was standard paperwork and statements. "That's great."
With the promise of the student getting the extra assignment in by next class. "See that you do."
