patch me back to my mind
October 28, 2025@lucyweasley
Rhys hasn’t actually planned on being anywhere, but he had a lot more on his mind than usual and even Rhys at times grew weary of sitting and reading as preparation for his work at the bank. He missed traveling, preferring being so distracted by whatever commotion was in front of him to get stuck in his head and distracted and away enough to not find himself entangled in unanticipated situations. He was restless. Rhys had been sitting, an empty glass in his hand and re-reading the same paragraph for the fourth time before he’d slammed the book shut and before he knew it he ended up here. Standing outside, he knew it was late by the chill that was encroaching upon him and he entered the bustling building and took a seat at the bar. It didn’t seem to matter what day of the week it was, this particular establishment always had patrons. The bartender sauntered over to him and he asked for a whiskey, a double. A glass appeared in front of him, with the familiar liquid that was a constant companion nowadays.
Rhys drank and the burn in his throat provided him with comfort more than anything. Though Rhys visited the different pubs near his residence this was one he was in the least, but it still brought memories into his head and exactly what had been in his mind lately. She had been angry, Rhys had been angry and then rather livid and then rather annoyed. His sisters were angry with him, there only seemed to exist tension in his world and unfortunately it was with those he relied on for some form of comfort. But, he hadn’t budged as his own anger still lingered. He finished the contents of his glass, not bothering to notice who was around him as he waited for another drink. But a voice caught his attention and he turned to see who had addressed him.

Lucy was a regular in every pub that wizards frequented, and many that muggles frequented. However, the muggle bars were mostly only good for charming unexpecting muggle men into giving her free drinks all night. She didn’t much like spending time at home, especially during the day when her sister and her husband might be there, so when she wasn’t working or wasn’t with a client, she found comfort and company in the many bars she visited. Today she fancied a drink at The Violet Hound. It wasn’t her most common bar, Club Indigo took that spot by far, but it was a good second, or third. The crowd was similar enough without everyone recognizing her right away. But she still liked the possibility of a familiar face. She saw an open chair at a bar next to a man that looked vaguely familiar, but overall handsome enough to be worth her time. She approached and asked in a sweet voice, Is this seat called for?” however, she was sitting before he even had time to answer and glanced over the selection behind the bar.

The voice asked almost gently if the seat next to him was taken but it had proved to be a rhetorical question. She had bright red hair though Rhys first noticed her. She was attractive, even as she glanced at the lined walls of liquor behind the bar. ”All yours.” He responded as a formality. Typically red hair was an obvious trait of a very specific wizarding family but the more Rhys had had a chance to travel and work he found that red hair didn’t always mean a Weasley, plus he still wasn’t sure if he recognized her. Bars were typically very dimly lit spaces , it allowed for some privacy for the patrons in a way. Rhys pondered a moment and glanced at the empty glass that sat in front of him. It was not his typical routine especially when he was in a mood like this but then again, he welcomed the distraction tonight. The bartender approached his side of the bar, ”I’ll have another whiskey.” He instructed the bartender and he looked at the woman sat next to him. ”And whatever the lady would like.”

The dark haired man said that the seat was all hers, as if she hadn;t already claimed it anyway. There were several empty seats around the bar counter, but Lucy wasn’t someone who liked to sit by herself. She needed the attention and she liked the fun of it all. Plus, she never really knew who she would run into when she went into a pub like this; or, who she would go home with. The man sitting beside her ordered himself another whisky and then added whatever she would like. Lucy smirked. Wow this was going to be fun, she could already tell. “Oh I’ll have a firewhisky, double, on ice, please.” It was her go to. She liked it chilled. She liked to sip. Occasionally she could take shots, but that wasn’t really what she was feeling yet. Maybe later in the evening. “Good evening so far?” she asked him casually.

The bartender nodded to acknowledge Rhys’ order for himself and the woman, she didn’t miss a beat and also ordered a whiskey. Intriguing as Rhys didn’t know that many women who wouldn’t have ordered a whiskey instead of something like a Cadillac Martini. Rhys himself preferred his whiskey neat, but in the end it didn’t all matter as long as the intended effect was created. ”Not too bad, yourself?” He didn’t quite want to get into the details of his complicated life, really he was just here drinking the pain away as he supposed most people sitting at the bar might be but didn’t mean he was going to refuse some company, especially someone this attractive. A distraction, perhaps that’s just what he heeded to get out of his head, though really he would try anything at this point.

The bartender went on to make their drinks and Lucy found herself studying the face of the man sitting beside her not so subtly. She was trying to figure out where she might know him from. Surely he had attended Hogwarts, or else she’d seen him around the purifiers base, but she was fairly sure she’d recognize him better if they had blown the quidditch match up together. He responded this his night wasn’t too bad and then asked about hers. She smirked, “better now.” she insisted. It was true, this was much better than going on a paid date with a muggle or being at home with her sister. “You look so familiar to me… where might I know you from? Hogwarts?” he questioned.

She was pretty. While distracted in his own mind, he wasn't blind. Red hair, a preference of his. It reminded him of the person he usually spoke to when he came to The Violet Hound, but she didn't seem to be working that night, or he just hadn't seen her yet. She seemed to look at him with the same kind of curiosity that he was looking at her with. There was a familiarity, but he couldn't' place it, and normally he didn't think too much about it since he was usually in a bar, regardless. There was also the chance that he'd met her through work, but after all these years, the faces tended to blend after a while with time and enough whiskey. She responded, and he couldn't help but smirk a little himself, well, his night was getting better and better, and the distraction helped his mood. The bartender came by and placed their drinks in front of them on small square napkins, and Rhys brought the glass closer to him as he pondered her question. "Perhaps. It's been some time since I was last at school. Were you in Slytherin?"
