It wasn't easy by far to be so far away from home. Even though it wasn't too difficult to travel back and forth between her home in the high north and the UK, it always felt like a far too great distance to conquer. Still, she managed and it helped that Hy-brasil was close if she needed to feel closer to the comforts of home. Still things here were rather different, not quite like back home. It all felt more magical, but she wasn't sure if that was a good thing. It just made the world seem so much more hostile and that made her scared. Not for herself any longer, but even more so for her child. She hadn't known for long that she was pregant but knowing certainly made her worry about more things. It didn't help that she was working for the ministry here either. There was a lot of conflict there. If only she could resolve it... Those were dreams and while she hadn't exactly said it or spelled it out at work, her loyalty was forever with the druids. Her own community. Perhaps they thought that could change but if they did they were utter fools. Her bond with her people was too strong. Her belief in nature even stronger. It was for that reason that she'd chosen to sit in the mouth of a cave high up on the Dragons Tooth at Hy-brasil. You could see the island rather well from here. The lush nature and the homes of the Druids among it. It was so much more luscious in the green, not like the pines and bleak greens of home. This was fertile land, land for life to grow on. She sighed rather deeply for a moment. How wonderful must it have been for Aidan to grow up here? It was at that point that she noticed somebody coming towards her. Virva wasn't too familiar with the people at Hy-brasil yet to realise exactly who it was but she was pretty sure she knew well enough. This was the high druid, leader of their people. She nodded respectfully, although with her people bowing to elders wasn't something that was done. Showing respect up north was done differently, but she wasn't fully sure up to which points the cultures differed between home and here. "Hello." She said, not sure if there was some formal title she ought to use. Hello High Druid sounded weird to her somehow. She looked at the greens below them for a moment. "Should I be moving? I'm afraid I'm not exactly caught up on protocol for situations like this." At least at home it was common to treat even the elders like any other in casual situations. It was mainly during rituals and such that it was possible to tell who the elders were to begin with. That and they were often reffered to as 'Elder' combined with their name. Would that be a thing here too? But possibly High ... what was her name again? Fae? If Virva remembered correctly High Fae? It sounded odd somehow.

▲ Walking around the island on her own wasn’t exactly a new occurrence for Fae, though she certainly felt the loneliness more now than ever before. She could feel the absence of the animals that had left the island at the start of October, and while it wasn’t a lot of them, the forest carried a different weight than it used to. Her various paths through the woods used to be chock full of all sorts of magical creatures, large and small, and now there was only the skittering of the smaller creatures that were unable to successfully flee. The herd of griffins that nested hear her home had scattered, some having already returned safely, but there were still others missing. Seeing some of the animals brought back and given her a little hope that they would be able to pull through and figure out how to establish a safe barrier again. But it was just that - a little glimmer of hope. There were plenty of things still to be done, and the stress of it all had been pulling her down immensely. Her parents had been the first to notice that her hair had yet to return to its ever changing palette of pastel colors, remaining in its stark black shade. Fae knew why it was like that, but she couldn’t will herself to change it back to what was normal for her until everything was said and done. To combat the looming feelings of dread, she had turned to escaping on these walks of hers. Today had led her along a pathway that ended near a cave on Dragons Tooth. Normally she didn’t venture near here, because she wasn’t fond of the dragons that called it home, but they had retreated elsewhere after the barrier disappeared. Like the rest of the creatures, some had left, and even fewer had returned. It was going to be a while before the caves were fully inhabited again, so she didn’t feel too weird about approaching them today. The path itself wasn’t nearly as perilous as some of the upper trails tended to be, but she still had to use Merlin’s staff as a walking stick. How horrible it was to treat an ancient magical item in the manner she did. But she couldn’t really leave it anywhere else. Something, or someone, had already tampered with it once. She had no intentions to let it out of her sight until she had a way to repurpose it’s magic. From her own tests, it was slightly stronger than her own personal staff and wand, but it seemed average at best. She had no idea if that was a testament of her own magical prowess or if it had only worked for its original owner. All she had successfully done with it so far was to turn it into a well-used walking stick. As she crested the last hill to the cave she was heading to, she followed the path that wound around the cliff side, only to see that someone was already seated in the mouth of the cave. Fae immediately recognized the person as the girl visiting from one of the druid community off-shoots in Finland. While Fae had never been there herself, she had met with their elders when she was first initiated as the High Druid. She had always found the differences in their culture fascinating, but they were still similar at the end of the day. “Hello,” Fae answered back, stopping a few feet away from where the girl was seated. She couldn’t recall her name, unfortunately, but knew that she was part of the Ministry as well. There were a few other liaisons in the government that had been keeping her up to date on things, though she hadn’t had a chance to talk to this girl yet. “I think you’ll be fine,” she responded, looking deep into the cave where a dragon most certainly used to live. “It may be some time before the occupant returns home. Do you mind if I join you?” The view was really what she was here for, and she wanted to stay a while before trekking back down the mountainside. @virvatuli ● 699 ● Amelia by Skott MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Virva was glad she didn't seem to have upset the High Druid. She didn't really want to feel more like an outcast than she already did. It wasn't easy to be far away from home, especially at a time she could have used her family more than anything. She knew they all supported her in whatever choice she made and that had made things a lot easier but she missed having them around. It was very comforting to be around those that clearly understood nature and weren't worried about walking in a place that used to be inhabited by dragons. Due to Aidan, Virva didn't worry about them as much. They were not gentle creatures by far but they were not monsters either. The true monsters of the world pretended that they were not monsters. Dragons just needed to eat and tended to have a bit of a foul temper. That combined with highly destructive abilities didn't make for a very good reputation. Yet Virva knew that it didn't mean they were evil. In her mind nothing natural was ever truly evil. Somethings were rather unnatural and therefore dark magic and defintively evil. Like a basilisk. That was more like an insult to nature. Those were only capable of spreading death in the end. She nodded slightly as Fae asked if she could join. "Yeah, feel free." She simply said, hugging her knees to herself as she looked out over the expanse of the island. "Do they know what happened yet? Or you, I guess? My cousin is rather worried for all the creatures. I'm also worried about them, but even more so about the implications this has for the community. I'm rather terrified they'll use this as an excuse to try and control us more. I don't like it one bit." She didn't say it out loud but she liked it even less now that she had a child on the way. She didn't want it to be forced to go to Hogwarts or some other school. She didn't want it forced to have a trace so the ministry could keep an eye on the use of magic. It was too controlling, too unnatural and she'd fight it every step of the way. She simply wouldn't have it. She knew it wasn't too unlikely they'd try to make an example out of her since she worked for them but if they tried that would be a grave mistake. She'd quit her job if they were even planning on pressing the issue. She did not accept it and never would. fae iona cloudbreaker

▲ Her request to join was granted, and Fae took it immediately, crossing her legs underneath her and laying Merlin’s staff across her lap. One of these days, she hoped it would start emanating a strange light or react to a location she was at. Instead, it decided to be like any other boring staff out there. As much as she wanted to continue to wrack her brain for ideas on how to trigger the staff, she was in the presence of someone she didn’t know nearly as well as she probably should have. The girl’s position in both the Ministry and within the druidic community was an important one, whether she realized it or not. Fae was sure they would be having plenty of conversations regarding this in the near future, depending on how the Ministry acted on the present events. So far they were keeping to themselves and assisting where asked, and that was how she and the Council liked it to be, and hopefully, stay. It seemed to be on both of their minds though, as the following concerns about the current state of Hy-Brasil were expressed. Fae also found it hard to not be worried about everything the girl voiced, because they were valid questions that needed to be answered. These were things she had been dwelling on since the start of it all, and it she knew it was in the back of most of her people’s minds as well. “This staff,” she raised it up off of her lap so the girl could see it, “Maintained the barrier around Hy-Brasil for the last one thousand years. It was placed there by Merlin.” Fae paused, wondering for a moment if she said too much, before realizing that all of this had already been relayed to the Ministry, and she was sure information had been spread quickly. Whether or not they knew the key was the staff itself, she was unsure, but her people deserved to know what happened. This was their home after all. “The spell it maintained for those thousand years either ended or was removed by someone. I’m not sure which yet. As for the Ministry…” Her own qualms about the magical government’s encroachment on Hy-Brasil over the last five years were, more than ever, present now. It started small, requiring the children to travel to Hogwarts for exams on magic they were all more than qualified in. Next would be actively forcing them to attend the school the entire time, instead of allowing the teachers on the island to continue their traditions. Fae had ways to prevent this, plans that hadn’t been brought up with the Ministry yet because they hadn’t forced her hand, but she was just as worried that some in positions of power would try to get around that. “Some within the Ministry will do whatever it takes to further their own goals, just as I do when I am required to…discuss with them the state of Hy-Brasil. Despite what has happened, with the loss of the barrier and many of our creatures, the Ministry imposing their rules over us is unbelievably difficult to do, thanks to our ancestors. If I have to remind them that our relationship is of mutual partnership and not one that is give and take, I will.”The real problem was that she hadn’t managed to meet the newest Minister yet. She had no way to gauge what he was about, or what his actual goals were. The previous one, Hermione Granger, was a good woman, who, if Fae understood her persona correctly, would have done great things within the Ministry if she had been given the chance. That included Hy-Brasil and the other druidic communities around the world. This Viktor Krum, she was insure of, and she had no idea if the dissenters had already started whispering into his ear or not. Certainly having to deal with the conundrum currently going on as his first order of action was not the easiest of transitions into the job, and she understood that. “Who is your cousin?” Fae asked, almost as an afterthought. She hadn’t been aware that the girl was directly related to anyone on the island, though that certainly made sense now that it had been brought up. And here Fae was, thinking she knew everyone on the island. @virvatuli ● 725 ● Fernando by ABBA MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

It took Virva a moment to realise the full implication of what the high druid was saying. The staff had been placed by Merlin, a man so advanced in the magical arts that it seemed near impossible that somebody would be able to return the magic they needed. It was a terrifying idea, but Virva hoped that the druids had some form of an idea of how to restore it, but she doubted the high druid would be here if they already had a solution. She bit her lip, feeling the fear and despair begin to settle in her bones. Was everything good going to fade along with the barrier? It was a dark and dangerous fear and Virva realised she couldn't let that idea and fear take control of her. No, she had work to be done as a Druid above all. That was where her true loyalty was and would be evermore. She looked at Fae, a rather calm but serious expression upon her face. "What do you need me to do?" The question was very simple, as it stated her loyalty in the battle against those that would control them. Not just them, but all of nature with them if they could. All they cared about was their machines and the ability to control everything on the world until nothing was truly wild or free. "Because my loyalty is always to the druids first and to the ministry where possible. I love my job, don't get me wrong on that. Catching dark wizards is something that I think we can all agree is not just needed but good and honourable but I disagree with a lot of the controlling nature of the ministry. I can't imagine why mainlanders agree to have the trace on their children. I certainly won't allow them to put it on my child." It still sounded strange, but at the same time it felt good. This was her child and while it was half mainlander she would raise them the druid way as much as possible. The world needed more nature in it. Fae asked about her cousin and Virva laughed a small silvery laugh in response. "You might know him? Aidan. He works at a dragon reserve. He's a great kid and lives by the old ways and has very firmly rooted believes in what is right. He doesn't quite agree with my chosen profession but I know he doesn't love me less for it. He's a great young man but his vision can be narrow at times. He always wants what is best for the creatures of the world and he has one of the kindest hearts I've met." She said, clearly full of praise for her cousin, even if his ways were quaint in their familiarity. He didn't exactly approve of her relationship, she knew that much. He wanted something safe that left him free of worries where she was off chasing adventure. They were very different in that sense. Nothing alike even. Still they remained fond of each other, something that was very important to her. She knew she was going to need him and the rest of her family in Hy-brasil somewhere down the line. fae iona cloudbreaker

▲ The forwardness from the girl was unexpected, and Fae leaned back onto her hands as she listened. While there were certainly more of their kind spreading their wings over the last few years, it was refreshing to hear one of the younger druids be so committed. Fae knew that no matter what druidic community her people came from, they all fell under the same categories by the magical governments. In that regard, she felt that the Ministry treated them fair. The real problem was how volatile that position actually was, though, which she felt she had explained fairly well already. If - and that was a big if – the Ministry tried to place the trace on the druidic children or force them to attend Hogwarts (among many other rules and restrictions they could enact), Fae knew how easy it would be to simply have the island retreat onto itself. It would be tricky at first, as they did benefit from a few things by being tied to the Ministry, but she was positive they could be self-sufficient. Turning Hy-Brasil into its own self-governing country didn’t sound so bad if the other option was bending the knee to an unjust government that didn’t understand how they did things on the island. “Well, I will need someone to escort me to the Ministry at some point in the next few days or so. As long as everything seems stable enough here to leave things be…” Though that was yet to be seen. Temporary barriers had been put in place, but there were still political deals that needed to be struck and talked about. And she still had to meet the new Minister of Magic. That had been on her to-do list for months now, and it seemed like both of them pushing it off over and over again was only going to force them to convene under doomed circumstances. Fae was fine with meeting the higher-ups in the Ministry, but only if she could have her choice of her people with her. One or two of the sharper Council members, and maybe this girl as well. She certainly came across as knowledgeable on the Ministry, especially as one of their employees. “With my other liaison already there, of course. I am not the best when it comes to their cities and getting around.”Her cousin was Aidan, so that meant her name had to be Virvatuli. Fae had heard about the girl plenty of times, mostly from her parents, who were always telling her little tidbits of information about the community in case she missed out on something. But they would have gotten her name Aidan’s father, who was a farmer like her parents, or from his eldest of family members. The elders were always a wealth of knowledge and passed information around the island effortlessly as community gossips. “He helped me reach out to the mermaid settlement just the other day,” Fae explained. “His prowess with the lute is quite exceptional as well.” As for animal handling, she was sure he was a natural at it as well. The only problem she had with Aidan was that she had struck a deal to write a song with him. She didn’t see that happening for a while yet. @virvatuli ● 546 ● Glory Days by Roo Panes MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Virva was curious if Fae meant anything with needing people to escort her to the ministry. She wasn't sure if that meant the high druid wanted her to be a part of that escort mission but she knew it most certainly would make most sense to her. She was a druid and a ministry employee. It could benefits both sides to have her around since she knew both sides, even if her loyalties could in theory be divided. Well, since they might realise her loyalties were with her people over the ministry the only reason not to have her around was if they suspected the druids of planning a coup of some kind. Now that would be some crazy conspiracy of sorts. "Their cities are confusing. They can't even find their way without maps and even then they regularly get lost." Virva said with a little giggle. They had all long since outgrown their ability to keep up with their own world in how vast it was. Not even the more experienced guides seemed able to fully be able to map out the city from the top of their head. Supposedly taxi drivers and driving instructors were best in knowing the broad roads and mail people best for smaller paths within a neighbourhood. The division of knowledge was interesting, mostly because it tended to show just how little the people knew their own surroundings. Her own home and Hy-brasil both seemed free of those kinds of limitations. As Fae praised Aidan Virva couldn't help but smile with pride and happiness. "He is a kind and gentle soul. He doesn't understand the cruelty of the world that well and can't see why anybody would want to hurt another creature." She said, never having known Aidan to wish or knowingly cause harm to anybody at all. It didn't surprise her at all that he was highly talented with the lute, since it seemed like it might be a way for him to relax and get his mind of things when he was playing around with magical creatures or chasing dragons. "He's easy to depend on." Virva said, since she believed that to be true. She counted on Aidan a lot, almost as much as her own brothers and sister. It was the distance, although that did mean that she spent more time with Aidan since moving here. That was probably a good thing anyway. fae iona cloudbreaker

▲ Right. Maps. Fae remembered the times she had been forced to go to Hogwarts for their exams. The school always provided them with maps, which never really made any sense to her. If they were so intent on having the children go to the correct location, they needed to clearly mark it on the walls, or something along those lines. The map that she had been given was multilayered and definitely outdated. Luckily most of their exams were in the giant hall where the students ate, so that made things slightly easier. Getting lost while exploring wasn’t nearly as bad as it was when trying to find a classroom or testing location. “Their buildings are suffocating, and they build them so high…I get turned around quite a lot when I have to attend meetings with the Minister.” Which had become increasingly frequent over the last five years. She was getting a little tired of the repetition now. But she was still required to be cordial, if only to maintain her status within the broader government game that seemed to never end. She understood the innocence that radiated from Aidan. From her point of view, the boy wore it around like an open book. While on Hy-Brasil, there was nothing wrong with that. Her own naivety had been like that at one point as well, and then she had been forced to strip it the moment she became the High Druid. That was part of the reason she wanted the barrier to return, and to push the Ministry back off the island. Not permanently, of course, but there were some things that only the druids of Hy-Brasil needed to be witness to, and being able to continue on with their normal rituals and daily lives was important right now. Once her people and home were back in order, than she could focus on dealing with the new Minister and everything that came with him. Until then, she wanted to protect the innocence of druids like Aidan. He didn’t need to be subjected to the follies of the mainlanders. “He was quite insistent with helping me. Though I think he may have been disappointed that I did not know any songs in Mermish. I am strictly a conversationalist as of right now,” she stated, a small laugh finding its way out at the end. Standing up, Fae stretched, using the staff as a sort of brace as she leaned into it. The stress of everything was really catching up now. She couldn’t remember the last time that she had been physically affected this way. Probably her first few weeks after being chosen. “Well, I should probably be on my way. The Council always needs me for something these days. If I need your assistance at the Ministry, where would be the best place to reach you at?” Fae asked. @virvatuli ● 477 ● Daybreak by OVERWERK MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Virva understood perfectly what Fae meant as she mentioned high and stuffy buildings. She nodded and pulled a face. "It's like they reach for the sky but forget that there are better ways to reach it." Virva mused for a moment. Becoming an animagus was one option, or climbing trees or even growing trees so tall that one could build a small cottage in their branches and live high without destroying nature in the process. Mainlanders had a very strange style and wanted everything quick and easy, if possible without putting in much work. It was kind of strange to Virva, since she'd been raised far more on hard work to achieve things. She'd even built her own conduit with some help from her father and it had never failed her, even if it was a little bit odd. Fae's small laugh made Virva smile slightly. "He does invest in everything. He's committed to his world and ideals, something I greatly admire in him, even if it drives me a little crazy sometimes. He's not too fond of all my choices, including the one to join the ministry and the fact I fell in love with a mainlander." She said regretfully. Maybe he'd see in due time that it wasn't all bad, since her loyalties hadn't changed just because she had opted to explore more of the world. Those were details that Aidan sometimes seemed to forget in his beliefs on what was right and what wasn't. Fae asked how best to reach her and Virva smiled slightly. "Either send a patronus in case I must make haste, but otherwise a bird with a letter will do. I'll send an adress as soon as me and my partner found a place to build our family. We're looking for somewhere in the countryside with plenty of nature and a lake, so it might take a while to find. If you need me at any time, I'll be ready." Naturall the only real exception was when she was in labour but that was quite a while away and she was sure that Fae wouldn't actually expect her to try and resolve ministry related issues while giving birth. That seemed a little too extreme. Besides, considering she hoped to be surrounded by her friends and family she could always ask them to help out. She had no doubts that they would do so to the best of their abilities. fae iona cloudbreaker

▲ Mainlanders, as destructive to nature as they were, didn’t know any better. There were some - from what she had read and learned over the years - that truly did care about the planet. But those were few and far between, and reaching new heights with their technology now extended past where anything magical could get the druids. Flying was easy enough, but space wasn’t a possibility as far as she knew. They had to be given the credit there, as much as she hated to at times. If the island hadn’t been in perpetual peril as of late, she probably would have done a lot more soul searching and studies with the non-magical population of the mainlanders. Now she didn’t even think that was a possibility with the constant pressure of the Ministry and the Council to get things back in order. As if that was her problem… “He will come around eventually. The threat of the unknown is powerful in our culture, as you know. We spend so much time conducting rituals and trying to remain the same, that some of us occasionally forget that there is more out there than just this. I think Aidan is on the correct path that best suits him.” Though she was also very much scared of the unknown. So much was restricted to the bend of nature’s will, magical and non-magical, that lately they were blending together. But she knew better than anyone that getting the stuffiness of the old guard to lighten up was possible. The Council especially, when it came to dealing with her and the decisions she made. While a fine line, there were some that only returned to their beliefs because it was a comfortable and safe. It was hard to blame her people for that, especially now. A patronus. That was simple enough, though hers was quite large and could be intimidating. A wispy, ghost-like griffin wasn’t exactly the most approachable of patroni out there. It fit her long before she knew what being a leader was like, and always assumed it was because of her love for the creatures. And maybe it was a little bit of that. “It was a pleasure speaking with you. I wish you and your family good health through this time,” Fae stated as she turned to head back down the mountain, and towards civilization once again.
