Deva had put on the kettle for tea, bought some mighty pastries and sas cheerfully humming as she cleaned her small apartment in anticipation of her guest. Rhys stopped by regularly but that didn't mean it was an excuse not to have her house neat and clean. Not to mention she'd been drifting on a cloud the last few days. Despite the fact she was home with a burn out she found that not having to worry about work a short while helped. Thinking of the pile of work on her desk when she got back was a very different story. She felt the anxiety creep up and scrubbed a little harder, pushing the feeling away. Not now. She was dying to tell Rhys about her meeting with Bjorn. Her stranger, her sailor and the one that had playfully suggested he'd steal her heart. He was very close and every letter had brought him closer to that goal. Now that he was coming back she impatient but ever so delighted. Every day seemed like an eternity while waiting for him but he was worth it. She was sure of it. Despite everything going on between her and Rhys she hoped he'd be happy for her. It wasn't simple, things never were between them. She knew he believed that they'd end up together eventually but she was tired of waiting. There was no doubt he knew that but nothing changed. Deva had given up hope, which was probably for the better too. If she'd still been clinging to the possibility that one day Rhys would love her the way she needed she might never have allowed herself to be charmed by Bjorn. So when the bell rang Deva opened the door and greeted Rhys with her customary hug. "Come on i ! I have so much to tell you!" She said, beaming with joy. Nothing could ruin her mood today, or so she thought. rhys alexander greyback

lovin' you, darlin', makes me so confused
October 17, 2025 @deva
-CRACK- Rhys appeared in the small village he was very familiar with now even if he’d only visited for a sole purpose. Rhys thought about the letter he’d received the previous day and it had been unexpected but not unwelcome, Deva was someone that was one of the few constants in his life. It was turbulent, he’d admit that, but he almost felt he could count on her in a way he couldn’t someone like Maria. He paused, she’d been popping more and more into his head especially after what had happened a week ago now. But he didn’t think too much of it, there wasn’t anything there to worry about and he certainly didn’t have feelings for her as he did for Deva. Rhys put his hands in his jacket pockets and walked up to the door and rang the bell, waiting for Deva to answer it. Rhys knew her well enough by this point that she was probably fussing over having a guest over, even if it was just him. He never thought he’d been worth the trouble but that was her way.
Sixteen was a long time ago for Rhys now, when they’d first met in that library on accident and Rhys found himself smitten within months. He thought about the special place she would always hold in his heart because she’d loved him back, his face was relaxed at this thought instead of the usual way his brow was furrowed when he was deep in a thought. Still, sometimes he still felt like that sixteen-year-old boy when she wanted to make things more serious and Rhys just wanted something simple and comfortable, something familiar. The door opened and immediately she pulled him into a hug, he smiled warmly and hugged her tightly in return. It felt good, he was happy she had reached out to him and as she had mentioned they had at least been friends for a long time after they’d reconnected after she’d graduated from school. She was her usual radiant and happy self. ”Good to see you, love.” Rhys said softly and finally pulled away from the hug.
”So, you mentioned being home from work. Everything okay?” Rhys asked, his face a bit concerned—she had mentioned a burnout and Rhys knew that feeling form his work the previous year. Deva had sent him a letter then, but he hadn’t been speaking to a lot of people while just pushing through work to forget about his own pain. But nonetheless he was still concerned, he did care about her after all.

Being was Rhys was different. She'd always thought (before she met Bjorn) that he would be her future. In a way she still believed that, although his place in it had changed in her mind. Where in the past she figured he'd eventually see sense and stop pushing her away every time she wanted to get serious, she now saw his part to be that of her best friend rather than her love interest. No, that role had been stolen from him by a rowdy sailor on a ship named after the pirate flag. Her feelings for Rhys in the romantic department had been doubtful in the past, but not like this. When she'd dated others it had always been a suspicion that Rhys might not be the one for her after all, but it always seemed so clear she'd been wrong when the men she'd fallen for had broken her heart. Rhys was always there for her, although maybe not always in the capacity she'd hoped he'd be there. She could count on him to an extreme degree. She could count on him to be there for her when she really needed him, but she could also count on him to run whenever she dreamt of more. "It's good to see you too Rhys." She said with a smile as she stepped aside to let him in. "I already have the tea on the table and I got us a little celebratory treat to go with it." She said with a huge smile on her face. So much to tell, so little time. At least it would distract her momentarily from looking at the clock and wishing feverently that it would move forward faster. Not to mention she'd spend some more time with her best friend. It didn't even occur to her that their meeting (like so many other times) could possibly end in a fight again. It was so common yet she was too far in the clouds to consider it. He mentioned work and she paused for a moment, her face falling. "Yeah, I was assigned to set up a barrier up on one of the islands to keep the muggles out for a while and had to work with a druid. He was super sweet but so distractable. That added to the increased workload started by hags fever and multiplied by the barrier breaking was just too much. They diagnosed me with a burn out and I'm to stay home at least two week, although my boss said I could take a vacation too if I felt like that might help." She was saving that for the possibility that Bjorn would be in town for a longer time so she could spend more time with him and had pretty much told her boss she wasn't sure but that she'd look into it. She poured them both a cup of tea as her eyes wondered to the nook where Cosmos (her rather huge owl) was taking a nap. He'd been very busy of late carrying letters. She hadn't known where he'd gone off to at first but when she discovered he'd been all the way up north she was almost glad the poor thing could rest for a while. Cosmos still regularly flew out to stretch his wings though, so it probably hadn't been half as hard on him as Deva had feared. He was a strong bird and his size almost had to be an advantage. She smiled as she put down a cup for Rhys and sat herself down. "But the work mess isn't what I wanted to tell you about. I have something to celebrate and I didn't know who else to tell. You're my best friend and there is nobody I'd rather share my joy with than you." Was it cruel? Maybe, but so were the years of stringing her on that he'd managed to get away with. It was his turn to stretch his comforts for her sake and allow her the opportunity to move forward with somebody that cared about her. His letters had made it sure and she'd already saved all of them in a special box, although she'd kept the one he'd sent her with the time, date and location of his next nearby docking lying around. She kept reading it over and over, checking shipping times every day just to make sure that there was no possibility that she'd be late that day. Not when she was going to see him again. rhys alexander greyback

lovin' you, darlin', makes me so confused
October 17, 2025 @deva
After all these years Deva had become someone Rhys felt very close to, he trusted her, and she trusted him though that only seemed to cause chaos after a while. They’d not talk for a small stretch of time and then find each other again. Maybe it was that she gave herself so wholeheartedly to him and didn’t care who he was and what he did in life and what else could you really ask of someone in terms of love? However, Rhys was his own worst enemy in terms of roadblocks. Their closeness translated into a very close friendship, though with some benefits at times. Rhys wasn’t completely blind, there was this beautiful and intelligent woman who was willing to give him everything he ever wanted but even then he didn’t feel ready and he couldn’t really answer what it would mean to be ready in that case. Still, she seemed her usual happy self and that had always been something that was calming and comforting to him, she had a big heart and a contagious energy and it was one of the many things that had drew him to her as a boy of sixteen.
Rhys looked sympathetic, the quarantine had affected so many different people in so many different ways and suddenly his situation didn’t seem as bad as work burnout, even if he had been on that edge the previous year. Deva had been supportive in the aftermath of his brother’s death and even if he had barely been home for the remainder of that year there had been plenty of letters exchanged, attempts to keep him out of his own head. ”Sorry to hear that, have you been able to rest?” Rhys sat down as Deva poured them both some tea as she readily changed the topic. He didn’t blame her, nobody wanted to talk about the negative parts of work, and he knew how she felt about achieving her goals and how setbacks affected her, so he didn’t pursue it. Rhys smiled though. He was always appreciative that they were able to connect once she’d finished her final year at school. He had still been in training as a Curse Breaker but had been doing well and it was an off-chance meeting in London and after the initial awkwardness it had felt as if no time had passed at all.
Did he love her? He did, she was a safe constant. He felt they were good together even if her family still shunned him and others in her life even with this many years working successfully and not in Azkaban as some people might have thought. Again, she was beaming with joy and he didn’t particularly feel jealous or anything. In fact, it seemed the only fit their pattern. They were close friends, they dated other people and they would tell one another about. But when they weren’t dating anyone and the benefits heated up she would bring up a more serious relationship with him and he’d push back, they’d fight, then they wouldn’t talk and then when other relationships fizzled out they would find one another again. ”So, tell me about this sailor of yours?” Rhys wanted to hear about the latest man in her life, though he wasn’t terribly confident in a sailor if he was being honest. They would come to the UK and then be gone very quickly afterwards with no promise of a return.

The bond between Rhys and Deva was strong without a doubt. Her father didn't like Rhys and often referred to him as 'the werewolf', a statement that often caused friction since Deva found it far too prejudiced. Rhys had never put her at risk of becoming sick because of him. He'd never put her in harms way and that was really all that she cared about. He had never been able to accept that she went against those that attacked him for something he had no influence over. It had been getting harder every time he pushed her away to open her heart up to him again and lately she'd been pulling away from the idea that her future was with him. He'd simply hurt her one too many times by now. Still, she knew she'd never be able to bid him goodbye permanently. She'd always want him around as a friend, much to the chagrin of her father (and mother). When he asked if she'd been able to rest she mostly shrugged. It hadn't been that long yet and she was still getting used to the idea that she wouldn't be able to get back to work as soon as she felt she had to. It was that drive and almost compulsive need to do her job that had probably gotten her in trouble to begin with. "I have two weeks. No arguments and all that. I've been cleaning and I have plans for the 20th now but... that's it. Forced rest doesn't really make me feel all that rested." She pulled a face and wriggled her nose. It wasn't rest when she spent most of her time trying to work either way. She knew she had to have a small vacation but wasn't really sure how to do so. Part of her was hoping that her sailor would help with that. Maybe with him around she'd have better things to think of than the drama her life was trying so hard to be. Her somewhat regular fights with Rhys definitively didn't help decrease er stress levels either. He invited her to talk about the person that had been almost the only thing on her mind when she took time to pry it away from work. Her fit instantly lit up like the sun and she looked incredibly happy. "Oh Rhys!" She fawned happily. "He's incredible! He's kind and he really likes me and despite my trying to seduce him all night he refused to give in. He kind of promised to make it memorable next time." She giggled a little girly, something not too common for her. "He was such a gentleman. He's been sending me love letters ever since he left the country and he's coming back to see me soon." She allowed herself to fall down on the sofa with a dreamy smile on her face. "He said he'd take me out sailing at some point. I don't know how but he's got me completely obsessed with him." She sighed in adoration and then poured them both a cup of tea. "He's unlikely anybody I've ever met before. I don't think I've ever felt something so strong for somebody before." Yes, she knew that could come across hurtful but it wasn't like Rhys had ever felt that way for her. Add to that the fact that he couldn't commit to her made it that she needed Rhys, the best friend and not Rhys the never-wants-to-be-the-boyfriend. She just wanted her friend right now and to tell him that she thought she'd fallen in love after just one meeting and a few letters. Or well, the closest she'd ever felt since her teen years with Rhys, which seemed like forever ago. rhys alexander greyback

Rhys quickly got the sense that she really did not want to talk about her and he didn’t blame her, he knew her and knew that being forced to take time off was the exact opposite of what she wanted to be doing. Deva had always had a plan and a clear direction, and this was a setback. And he had confirmation when she went from a more unsure face to quite literally beaming. Still, Rhys didn’t worry all that much about it and he couldn’t help but smile softly at her expression. She was beautiful but especially when she was smiling and every time, she was happy it was contagious. She didn’t join him for tea and instead went to the couch, her entire demeanor was not new to him, but he was almost taken back to their school days in how she went on and on about this mysterious sailor. Still Rhys held onto his confidence. They might be here as friends for this moment at least but the pattern always persisted and held true.
He didn’t say it, but especially a sailor was bound to break her heart and get close to her when they were docked and enjoy their time with her until they left and she never heard from them again. It wouldn’t have been the first time and then Rhys would find himself with her again, enjoying it as they always did until they started fighting. Not many people could get under Rhys’ skin, but Deva was one of them but that was because he’d never let go of how he felt about her, not after all these years. ”Sounds like the perfect gentlemen.” Rhys commented, as she lay on the couch he was almost tempted to remind her what a gentlemen he could be but she was distracted over her new beau. Rhys cleared his throat softly and drank some of his tea. ”So, where did you meet him?” There was a time and place for everything and they’d had conversations like this before, though mostly Deva dating another man since Rhys didn’t often commit to much and his life consisted of mainly flings, he surely wasn’t going to tell her about Maria.
”So, when is he due back? Is he actually coming?” Rhys had to ask, sailors lived by their own rules and their own schedule and Rhys knew that Deva loved the sea and sailing but she was committed to her life here, her work and her family and even some part of her to him.

Everything was perfect, for the most part. Rhys agreed that her sailor sounded like a perfect gentleman, which made sense. He was a perfect gentleman. She still had his letters fresh in her mind. Not to mention she'd been reading them earlier, for the umpteenth time that day. She'd read his words a thousand times and she'd still read them a thousand more. She'd mostly been keeping the one letter that only had the date, time and location of their next meeting close. That one somehow felt most significant. She smiled distractedly at Rhys for a moment. "Oh yes, perfect." She sighed dreamily as she grabbed her cup of tea, too distracted to take a sip at first. She blinked a few times as Rhys asked her where they'd met. She smiled. "Oh, Belfast. I was at the harbour, mostly just for sigh seeing. Since the family holiday got cancelled due to Hags Fever I wanted to just pretend I could still go sail." It had bothered her for quite some time that her time this summer hadn't been spent doing something she loved. Still, her trip to the Belfast docks that day had been more than worth it. Far more than expected even. "I almost bumped into him on the docks and we got talking. He ended up giving me a tour of the ship he sails on. It's a gorgeous ship, very old and very well maintained. After that we went out to a small Italian place for dinner. It was magical." She was very excited and had mostly given an outline. She figured that Rhys would ask for more details if he wanted them. She could imagine his interest in this particular subject was limited but she was far too excited not to at least try and tell him as much as possible. Her smile faltered as Rhys suggested he wouldn't come back. She gritted her teeth for a moment. Why did he have to do this to her? Couldn't he at the very least pretend? "He's coming the 20th." She said, a bit shortly as she shot him a glare. "And yes, for the record, I'm certain he's coming." She was very annoyed and felt a need to bite back after that specific remark. Unable to hold it back due to the fact he was ruining the mood she rolled her eyes and sipped her tea before shooting Rhys a withering look. "Unlike you, he's capable of committing to something he wants." There, she'd said it. They were probably going to have a fight now but he'd asked for it. It would have been nice if he could have pretended a little bit longer for her sake. At the very least let her have her moment before suggesting that her sailor was going to break her heart when he was the one with a far worse track record. All of that due to his profession. She expected better from Rhys considering all the prejudices he'd dealt with. Seems she'd been wrong. rhys alexander greyback

October 17, 2025 @deva
Rhys continued listening to Deva rave about this new love interest of hers, it sounded fairly new, but he knew how easily she fell into these things. Back in their school days it hadn’t taken them long after meeting to become an item, though Rhys had never imagined he’d fall into that so easily as he had. Between what was going on at the Ministry in terms of this Hag’s Fever situation and she hadn’t been able to spend the summer with her family as she normally had, it would take a toll on anybody. Rhys had felt the pressure himself as he’d gone stir crazy not being able to leave and travel for work and growing bored of the vaults that had artifacts that needed to be dealt with in the meantime. Rhys had never particularly liked dealing with the Goblins, another reason he’d never expect himself to be in some leadership position in his field.
’Magical’ Rhys drank more of his tea but really it was to help him appear to be happy for her. Not that he felt any negative emotion toward it really, except maybe doubt. Surely, she realized the vicious cycle they were in. Rhys wasn’t home incredibly often and not in a way that made having a long-term relationship easy by any means, but he always found his way back to her or she to him, one way or another. Still, her tone changed when he asked about the certainty of his coming back. There was always that off chance that he was a bored sailor just looking for a pen pal or a promise of a good time the next time they were here, in the end she would do whatever she was going to do. But then she spoke again rather quickly and shot her a look—a glare rather.
Rhys put his tea down, if she wanted to venture into that territory then he was going to gladly follow. ”I’m here, aren’t I?” He snapped back, she wanted one of her closest friends here—well here he was. ”Don’t worry about me when you’re the one always crawling back to me after falling ‘in love’ with some bloke you knew a few weeks and he doesn’t want to see you again.” Rhys knew the pattern, and he liked how comfortable they were with one another and he could say he loved her in a way that you never forgot your first love, but her constant heartbreak wasn’t his responsibility. She was the one that always came back to him.

Rhys was absolutely infuriating. He refused to take any blame or responsibility for his choices and Deva was done with it. For what was probably the first time in her life she stopped thinking of Rhys as the teen boy she'd fallen in love with. She stopped seeing him as the guy she'd dreamt of having a future with for so many years. Right now she just saw a person she had thought to be a friend wrenching a knife in her heart and twisting it for good measure. Too bad for him that Deva (when she did get angry) was not at all as kind as she normally was. She never wanted to be cruel but this time her anger was stronger than her composure. She normally just yelled back, although that was more to express her pain than anything. Now there were years of frustration seeking for a way out. It seemed like it'd be one of their bigger fights. "You're here?!" She said, her voice raising in angry disbelief. "Nonsense! You've never been here!" She said, once again raising her volume despite herself. "You're just.... around!" She flailed her arms around in utter frustration. "You've known for almost a decade what I wanted! You knew I wanted to start a family but you never were willing to give it a try. You're so caught up in what the rest of the world thinks that you completely ignore whatever I say or feel! You're not here!" She said and she felt the angry tears already streaming down her face. She gave him a hurt look as he accused her of always crawling back to him. He was accusing Bjorn of the sort of stuff he'd pull on her if they hadn't had the kind of history they did. She balled her fists and took a deep breath. In a slighter calmer voice she continued, her voice shaking with held back anger and her chin raised in defiance. "You're accusing my sailor of doing exactly what you would have done in his shoes. He's more honourable than you ever would have been and unlike you, he has the courage to at least try! You never wanted a future with me, I was just good to have around! Convenient." She spat the last word at him in bitter frustration. She crossed her arms, far beyond her breaking point after all these years. "I'm done Rhys. We're done, whatever you think we were. Even if what you say is true and I get my heart broken because he doesn't want to see me again and least I'll sleep better knowing he's not leading me on like you've been doing for seven years! I was honest about what I wanted. Can you say the same?!" She wanted to give him a chance to defend himself, but all she really wanted to do was shove him out of her apartment and slam the door in his face. This was the last straw. No More. rhys alexander greyback

October 17, 2025 @deva
Rhys sighed heavily, it seemed he always knew the wrong thing to say even if it was in an attempt of his own defense. It wasn’t a new record by any means in terms of how long it had taken for them to start arguing and yelling at each other, and it was just how they were. Maybe it was passion or a combination of their own individual stubbornness. ’You’ve never been here!’ Rhys rolled his eyes. He knew where this conversation was going because for the past seven years it had always gone to the same place. Them and how they worked. Rhys didn’t think there was anything inherently wrong with their ‘relationship’, as it were but he was content with them being close friends and having the physical benefits, it was never him that insisted they take it further. However, he wasn’t just going to sit here and let her yell at him like this, he had just asked a simple question and her defensiveness was not necessary in his humble opinion.
Rhys crossed his arms and looked away his annoyance clear in his face and his clenched jaw, his eyes had darkened to a cold blue. Still he shook his head, she was really trying to make this entirely his fault. ”Really? Its all my fault? You know where I stand on those things and yet—like I said, you keep trying to push me to be something that I’m not.” He spat back at her, they could have just been friends. He wasn’t entirely innocent on the benefits part himself, but she could have stopped him, she could have set boundaries, but she had sought him out for physical comfort as much as he had her. It was a consensual and mutually beneficial arrangement—until she brought up the other things every time. Tears had begun to stream down her face, those angry tears in those big brown eyes of hers. It did hurt Rhys to see her upset, no matter what he said he still cared a great deal for her despite everything.
He sighed in frustration again, rubbing his hand over his face and stopping at the bridge of his nose. It was the same, always the same. She wanted him to be it all for her and he just couldn’t give her that. ”Dev he’s a sailor, they’re here and gone more than I am for work.” He pointed out, he wasn’t wrong in that sense and even with his own career there were opportunities to find some stability in desk work or directly at the bank here locally, not with a sailor though he thought. She was beginning to frustrate him more and more. He wasn’t going to sit here and take the blame for something that didn’t work and wasn’t ever going to work no matter what story she told herself. ’I’m done Rhys. We’re done.’ It wasn’t the first time he’d heard that either and while it didn’t feel good to hear every time he also didn’t think of it that seriously or he wouldn’t when he was calmer, he was just pissed off now.
Rhys looked away, his arms crossed tightly across his chest because all he felt like doing was throwing whatever was in front of him across the room to help release some of the angry energy he had building up. But he did, and just shook his head again. They were never on the same page, never with the same goals as much as she had wanted that. ”You keep saying that, but you know as well as I know that we haven’t been anything since we were in school.” Rhys was frustrated now, he wasn’t yelling as that typically wasn’t his style versus just having a sharp tone. ”I don’t know why you keep hanging on to this fairy tale about us, and now you’re making one about you and this sailor—whoever he is.”

Maybe he actually had a point. Maybe she'd hoped for too long without being realistic. It was time to face the music now though. She'd been working so hard to move forward and she wouldn't let him destroy it this time. He couldn't be happy for her? Fine. She didn't need him, she had always been getting by without being able to fully depend on him. Why would anything change now? No, this was the end of the line. This was the final rhythm. She took a very deep breath as he accused her and accused she stood for a moment. Even if he wasn't right, it was time she started taking his words as at least partial truth. "Well luckily for you, I'm done trying. I might be horribly unlucky in love but I'll take anything over this misery." That was perhaps a bit of a low blow but she had to be tough on herself. Otherwise his blue eyes would have her falling. Or maybe not. Within his blue eyes she missed that little touch of something that she vaguely remembered like a small ray of light in the darkness. Blue that held something else, and something far more meaningful. No, this was not a loss. This was closing a chapter so a new one could begin. "Well maybe I don't care if I see him every day or not! You only want to hop on and back off again, so what's it to you?" If he really didn't believe that her sailor would stick around, there was no point in him pointing out that she'd be alone most of the time. She was painfully aware of it but had already found his letters to be enough to sustain her this time. That wasn't all that likely to change and she'd see him again soon. She'd drown herself in his presence until it felt like she couldn't breathe. That high would last her far beyond his departure and otherwise she could always seek him out. These were not the old days in which one took a ship to travel. She could take a port key or even fly by muggle transport. Just because he wasn't near didn't mean he was so utterly out of reach that she couldn't see him until he came back. She scoffed at his words and rolled her eyes. "Well good news! You don't have to worry about me again. I am finally ready to accept that you're right and going to you when I need company is just a bad idea." It came out a lot harsher and colder than she'd intended it at first. She shot him a bit of a sneer. "Guess I find a new guy to fill the supposed void you'll be leaving. You can stop pretending to care and go find a new person to screw over." She was angry and they both knew she often said things in anger that she didn't really mean. Still, there was always a core of frustration it in and this time was worse than usual. She definitively didn't want to see him again anywhere in the next few weeks once he finally made his way out the door. Maybe after she'd calmed down she wouldn't be tempted to slam the door in his face any longer. rhys alexander greyback

lovin' you, darlin', makes me so confused
October 17, 2025 @deva
Obviously this had all gone south rather quickly but it still felt like one of their usual arguments they had, very intense and emotional and full of words they said because they didn’t have walls with one another—well Deva didn’t have walls with him. He didn’t think that anything he said wasn’t true. Rhys felt like he’d made it perfectly clear that he didn’t want to pursue something serious, to be her boyfriend or husband because in the end nobody would be happy with it and then she’d be unhappy. He shook his head again. He felt his jaw clenching tight as his own anger increased. ’Misery’, that’s what she called the whole arrangement, but he almost laughed at a thought. ”Misery? You never seem miserable when you crawl into my bed.” If they were going for easy shots, low blows well then he could spar with her on that note. There had been a few times where Rhys had actually managed to leave her alone, give her the space she needed to move on from him and find somebody else that would give her what she wanted but then there she was at his doorstep but he’d never turned her away either.
”Its nothing to me, I don’t care who you choose to see.” Even Rhys knew that wasn’t entirely true, he left everything alone in general for the most part though he’d had to ‘talk’ to a few of them in the past because despite whatever mask they had shown Deva to get her to fall for them Rhys knew the types they actually were and they by far made Rhys look like the perfect gentleman. It was the same point, the same thing she chose to bring up over and over again. It was Rhys and Deva against the world, as long as they loved one another it didn’t matter what anybody else thought. But he knew better than to fall into that spell as he knew how the world really worked. You survived if you were strong because it would keep throwing challenges at you and challenges and obstacles there love enough would not be able to overcome. But now it was Rhys’ turn to scoff, bitterness that was held onto for almost a decade tended to become something rather poisonous and not where anything could safely grow.
Rhys unfolded his arms and stood up, ”Fine. I’ll leave you to your sailor, if he actually shows up, and don’t come find me when it doesn’t work out.” Rhys just wanted to get outside, punch something and find some whiskey. The more it happened the more tiresome he grew of these quarrels over the same thing, the same attacks from expectations he clearly could not meet and their reluctance to leave each other alone about it. He shook his head again in frustration and left.
