Ani wasn't stupid. If she didn't want to be found, you wouldn't find her. While her father had trained her in many skills, Ani had always excelled at anything stealth related. No, you didn't find her unless she wanted you to find her. Though, there were those that underestimated her skills in that regard. They thought that the hints and trails she left were accidental. Were Ani being sloppy, or that they were just a great detective that could outsmart her. No doubt all of Interpol knew something was going down in the Davtyan family as well. The incident in France, where one of them had tried to kill Ani. No, that would be all over their reports. So signs of Ani being alive, in the UK? Well, Interpol would jump at the chance. Thinking she was weak and on her own, without the patriarch's support. She was ripe for capture.
But Ani hadnt left signs for just any Interpol agent. She'd left clues for one particular person. The karkaroff woman. They'd run into each other a number of times. Never on good terms, obviously. But if anyone at Magical Interpol would be willing to listen, it'd be her. No, Ana was Ani's only chance.
While some might think it stupid to intentionally try and get caught by interpol, it was a calculated risk. That the Karkaroff woman would bring reinforcements. That someone else would interpret the clues before her. Hell, that she might not even come. But it was a risk Ani had to take.
All the clues had led to one city. Someplace iconic. Somewhere with too many tourists. But that was also intentional. Because Interpol would tread carefully here. They'd confront her, but they wouldn't pull anything in front of all the muggles. Especially tourists who might take off and be very difficult to track down once they left the area. Also, far to many cameras. Tourists loved their pictures. It would be a mess to clean up an incident here. It meant Ani would, theoretically, be safe. Well, safer.
Ani had dyed her hair dark today, wearing a nice dark, business style dress and heels. Like a business woman. She sat at an outdoor cafe, a cup of coffee on the table. Her gaze scanned the crowd, catching every little change. While she already had her escape route in place, she was still on guard. Ever vigilant and watchful. Because as bad as it sounded? Her own family was probably just as likely to have deciphered the hints as Interpol. Who would come? Interpol, or her father?

what if this whole crusade's a charade and behind it all there's a price to be paid December 1, 2025 - @ani It had been a month since the incident in France, Ana had managed to make her way there the day after to see what she could gather from the wreckage left behind. It had been confirmed they’d caught a Davtyan, the tattoo had been recognized and she remembered her initial shock and disbelief. It had been some time since Ana herself had encountered one of them and the longer that time went on the more personal of a mission it became. It was her “the one that got away” though every time she slipped through her fingers the angrier it made her. Still, something had been different. A trail had appeared and typically information regarding the girls were brought to her attention and then….another puzzle piece. Strange as the entire time that Ana had been in the UK, she’d never encountered her here. Was this real? Was it a trap? Revenge for the time she managed to time a spell just right and injure one of them? Ana looked around casually through her dark sunglasses, of course the last piece involved a location with plenty of onlookers—tourists and muggles. Clever, but not unexpected but Ana was still wary as the last thing she needed to do was walk into a trap. As usual her wand was positioned to where she could grab it quickly if needed, something she was known for in her line of work and something she had practiced since older kids decided to push her around as a young girl at Durmstrang. She wasn’t the type that liked to lose. Ana had mostly kept her notes to herself regarding this manner as she would rather not have it publicly in her department known if she was in fact on a wild goose chase and the only person who knew she was traveled to Wales was her brother, but that was simply a security measure should something happen. Casually she walked and occasionally looked around as if she was one of the muggle tourists taking in the sights, it was easy to blend in and not look so suspicious when everybody seemed to be also looking around with some wonder. Many questions crossed her mind. Why had she been lead here? Why her alone, why not the department as a whole? Was this a trap? She continued to walk until she saw a woman sitting alone. She knew that face, but her hair was dark this time. Hidden in plain sight. But she hadn’t been approaching from the front though she knew enough about the girls at this point to know she had already been spotted. Damn if it didn’t annoy her, she couldn’t make a scene with all these muggles around. Ana continued her pace and approached the table and sat in the chair in front of her, removing her sunglasses and setting them on the table. ”Been a long time, Ani.” She spoke simply and sternly, she still had her wand ready as she assumed the rest might be nearby but she didn’t look away from her.

Her messages had, thankfully, been intercepted by the right party. Ani spotted Anastasia Karkaroff immediately. Ani almost let out a sigh of relief, but didn't for fear that it was too soon to relax. No, her gaze kept moving, to make sure Ana had come alone, and that one of her sisters or father didn't interfere... Though, so far it seemed they were in the clear. Though, not really. There was still always the chance of Ana trying to arrest her. IT would complicate things quite a bit. Ani knew she wasn't up for a duel against Ana Karkaroff. No, Ana was a very, very, strong duelist. Much like Ani's sister. Ani could hold her own, for a time, but she wouldn't win. Not in a fair fight. Fortunately, that was the thing about being a trained assassin. Ani didn't play fair in fights. Perhaps the only advantage she had if a duel did break out. But again... She'd like to avoid that if she could.
Ani's calculating gaze trained on Ana as she sat down, taking in the way she sat, the way she was positioning herself. Ready to react. But thankfully, not aggressive. Yet. Ani leaned forward in her chair a little. "Ana," she greeted simply. They weren't friends. No, it was more a game of cat and mouse with them. Ana had worked on a number of Interpol cases involving the Davtyan family, so their paths had crossed several times. "I'm glad you got my messages." Starting off, admitting that she had been trying to get Ana's attention, would probably be best. "Are you alone?" So far, Ani hadn't seen any other Interpol agents, but better to be safe.

what if this whole crusade's a charade and behind it all there's a price to be paid December 1, 2025 - @ani Ani looked the same as Ana last remembered seeing her, she still insisted that had it not been for the second sister that she might have caught Ani once and for all. She sat across from her and it was tempting to simply attempt to restrain her and bring her in, but Ana knew better than to think it would ever be that easy. What was her game this time? She began by admitting that the messages and the trail had in fact been established by her and was not some wild goose chase as she had feared. ”Why me?” Ana asked her, the answer might have been obvious considering all their history and previous interactions but at the same time why would you contact the one Witch in Interpol who absolutely had this goal of taking Ani and her family down—why take the risk? Ana hadn’t spotted anything suspicious as she had walked around a bit, but she also wasn’t about to let her guard down simply because something was obvious to her. ”Are you?” There were many questions that were running through her mind. but she needed to understand first the situation. Why was she here in the UK and what did that mean in terms of their work? How did this relate to France when they’d had Ani in their hands but one of her family had broken her out and killed many Wizards in the process. ”Wales isn’t your usually territory, what are you doing here?” It didn't fit the pattern and Ana was quite familiar considering her time tracking and dueling them. If Ani was by herself it changed things, but she wouldn't risk it if her sister was nearby and with all these tourists as well. Regardless, Ana wasn’t here for conversation—she was here for answers.

Why Ana. Well, that was a loaded question. Because the Karkaroff was familiar with her family and their work. Because the Karkaroff woman was strong, and not some pushover that would give up at the sight of the Davtyan name. Because Ana knew exactly what her family was capable of. Because Ana was, for lack of better terms, a good honest woman who did the right thing. Ani raised her eyes to meet Ana's, her gaze never wavering. "Because you're the only one that would listen," was what Ani finally settled with. It was true. Despite all the other reasons, Ana was someone that Ani knew she could trust. Given the right reasons.
Ana didn't answer Ani's question, instead turning it back on the assassin. She supposed it was a valid concern. Ani gave the smallest of nods. Yes. She was. Though, that knowledge might embolden Ana to attack, she hoped her previous statement would be enough to get Ana to be willing to listen to what she had to say. Still, the hairs on the back of her neck stood up just a touch, her guard rising. If Ana did attack, Ani would be ready. Though again, she hoped it wouldn't come to that. "Trying to stay alive," was her cold and blunt answer to why she was in Wales. Something that might... confuse Ana. "I want a deal, Ana. I'll help you and Interpol find and stop my father and sisters." That would probably confuse Anna the most... Well, until her final statement. "In return, I need Interpol's protection before they find and kill me."

what if this whole crusade's a charade and behind it all there's a price to be paid December 1, 2025 - @ani Ana’s look didn’t soften but she looked at the woman in front of her with a bit more suspicion, her work with her brother had helped her become not only a better liar herself but also to help detect them—though it was an imperfect process. It seemed their history was an important part here and that Ana’s determination in all things was an easy read for those she pursued. The integrity of the job and her work was always something that was important to her though she could say that she was only human when she turned a blind eye to very specific people’s whose loyalty was more important than her work. She didn’t respond to her, instead opting to listen to what else she had to say, and she began by non-verbally confirming that she was in fact alone. Interesting. The family appeared to be separated and that already made this situation completely different than whatever Ana had been used to dealing with previously. And there it was. The reason and Ana’s eyebrows raised a bit in a bit of surprise though she fell back to her suspicious demeanor she’d been wearing before. Well. This was quite the plot twist though the probability that this was somehow a trap was still on her mind, so she kept her guard up. The family had rejected one of their own it seemed. But why? And why now? For a few more moments she thought about the options here, if she was in fact alone the opportunity to bring her in was incredibly tempting but if Ani was telling the truth then there was no sure way, she could guarantee a “deal” or whatever she was looking for. After all her years and hard work Ana had some pull but she wasn’t the one in charge ultimately. Still, she’d give her a lot in so few words—it only seemed fair to do the same and see where this game went. ”I am alone, I didn’t want to bring the full force of the Ministry on fool’s errand.” ”Tell me what happened in France? How did you get here?” Ana had questions. She didn’t respond directly to the offer, but she needed more information while she calculated her choices and next steps.

Ani knew her request was a bit of a bombshell. No doubt taking Ana by surprise, though Ana's expression only showed it a moment. To be honest, Ani was still a bit... surprised by it all as well. It wasn't every day the person that raised you sent your "sisters" to try and kill you. Even in her world. At the same time though, the act of betraying one of his daughters didn't surprise Ani. She knew what the man was capable of. Probably the only reason why she was alive right now was because he sent one of her sisters to kill her, instead of coming himself. He might be getting older in years and not as agile as he used to be but he was still ruthless and coldhearted. Ani knew she wouldn't have made it out alive. He would have taken precautions her sister hadn't.
THough Ani was already suspecting Ana had come alone (since her periodic scans of the crowd didn't turn anything up), it was good to hear Ana admit it. At least they were being honest with each other right now. A good start to this... unusual conversation. "That and you know me better then that. Full force would have just gotten in your way of arresting me." She looked back at Ana with a smirk. No, if Ana had brought the cavalry, it would have tipped Ani off immediately and she would have escaped. While manpower was a good thing most the time, it wasn't really covert. Ani wouldn't have figured out what was happening very quickly and escaped. More hands just meant more people to make a mistake.
IT was down to business though. They weren't friends. Though, enemies felt like a strong word. Ani didn't hate the Karkaroff woman. She was quite formidable, somethin Ani could respect. But still. This wasn't just a friendly chat. No reason to hem or haw. Ani's eyes turned dark and cold as she thought about France. "Vetone happened." Vetone, the strongest fighter of the girls. The name would be very familiar to Ana. While all the Davtyan girls were "formidable", considering their upbrinigng Vetone was their father's protege. His heir. Ani had never killed an Interpol agent, but Vetone had a long, bloody list. Vetone was without a doubt the most dangerous out of all of them. "My father sent me on a suicide job, though I didn't know it at the time. When I was captured instead of killed, he sent Vetone to finish the job." Ani knew a lot of people had been killed that day in France. When Vetone had broke into the facility holding Ani to try and kill her. "I don't know why he wants me dead," she added as an after thought, as that would probably be a question Ana would ask otherwise.
As for how she'd gotten here... Ani gave her a "you're an idiot" look. "I took the ferry." Though that probably wasn't exactly what Ana had meant by asking how she'd gotten here. "With current events this is probably the only place that my father would hesitate to send my sisters. The British Ministry has the backing of Magical Interpol and MACUSA right now. My father isn't stupid enough to chase me here without a plan." While it posed an insane risk to herself, it was an even greater risk for her father. He'd at least tread carefully here.

what if this whole crusade's a charade and behind it all there's a price to be paid December 1, 2025 - @ani Ana’s whole life seemed to have prepared her in a unique way to her job. Suspicious of others and their intentions, reading people to see what they wanted from you and not expecting anything of others. This wasn’t any different. There was no way woman who she had chased through several parts of Europe was just handing herself over to Interpol and Ana specifically, there had to be a catch—how could it be this easy? Ani wasn’t wrong, Ana herself saw how bumbling and obvious some of the field agents were and really rolled her eyes on how they were expected to blend in at all with them. It was her firm belief that some people belonged behind a desk though she was not one of them. ”The Ministry has its way of doing things and I have mine.” She spoke casually. Ana was typically by the book in terms of following rules though some could be bent to server her purpose. When she had a goal in sight, she was going to achieve it. There was a respect of some sorts between them, if you didn’t take your enemy seriously you were never going to catch them. That was the first mistake individuals on either side made—underestimating their opponent. Ana certainly knew what Ani and her family was capable of and based on her experiences with her sisters underestimating that was a dangerous step. ’Vetone’. That explained the body count and the sheer amount of damage that had been caused and the brutal nature of everything. A jailbreak would have been cleaner than that. Ana felt that she wasn’t lying about that, Ani had apparently become a loose end that had to be taken care of. With what she had seen with her own eyes in France, she could only imagine the carnage and collateral damage that the entire rest of that family would cause looking for this loose end here in the UK. Ana paused again, she felt like something was missing but she didn’t know what yet. ”Why would he send you on a suicide mission?” Just as Ani had noted, her father would do anything without a specific plan in place. It had been part of their success and why up until Ani was captured this was the longest face to face time Ana herself had gotten with one of them. The presence of so much law enforcement in the UK did provide Ani with some cover. Out of all the situations and scenarios she had ever thought of in her mind over this case this had never been one of them or if it had flashed briefly it had been discarded as a pipe dream. Though the fact that she had gotten here apparently so easily did worry her, it meant the same could be said for her sisters. Ana returned the look. Attitude was not going to win her points here. They both needed to tread carefully, one wrong move on Ana’s part could land her dead or without a job. ”Forgive me if I question your current….situation.” Ana began, she wasn’t ready to relax yet. ”How do I know you’re not just bait in some trap?” This had to be too good to be true, it was moments like this she almost wished she had studied Legilimency instead of Occlumency. ”Either way I’m going to need something more concrete than just your story.”

Talking to Ana made Ani realize just how little she knew about the whole situation. Why her father wanted her dead. Vetone's involvement was completely understandable. Vetone was pure chaos. She'd kill any of the sisters and laugh over their dead body. Vetone didn't need a reason to kill them, just the approval from their father. No doubt Vetone didn't even know why their father wanted Ani dead. "Same reason he sent Vetone to kill me. Because he wants me dead." Though, she needed more information... To understand why. And unfortunately Ani's resources were very low in this country. She had few contacts that operated here, and the last time she'd gone to an old contact Vetone had almost killed her. Again. No, if Ani was going to survive she needed new contacts and resources. She needed Ana. As much as she hated to admit that.
It was just, you know, convincing Ana that she needed Ani too that would be the challenge.
Ani shouldn't be surprised that Ana wasn't totally convinced. She put an elbow on the table and her head in her head. "This would be a good trap. You're alone. Far from back up." She twirled a lock of her currently dark hair between her fingers. "Would be quite easy. Even with your wand ready, you'd probably hesitate in such a crowded place." It was almost like she was admitting there was a trap in place, or that she as forming one now. Though after a moment she sat up straight again and gave Ana a serious look. "If I wanted you dead you'd be dead already."
As for something more concrete then just her story... Well... If Ana wanted proof of what Ani was saying. She waved a hand through the air, silently performing an illusion spell around them. So that any passerbys would just see the pair talking, and not what they were actually doing. Ani reached for the bottom of her shirt, now that they were safe from prying eyes, and lifted it until Ana would be able to see injury on her side. It was still healing. Slowly. Ani hadn't gone to see a healer, after all. Couldn't risk it. So, she had to let it heal naturally. But, due to the dark arts nature of the spell she'd been hit with... Well, it was a slow process. The injury was still quite... horrific. Definitely from a spell meant to kill. Ani lowered her shirt. "From France. I have another on my back. From when Vetone tracked me to Egypt. I'm sure you heard about Egypt." While Interpol might not have made the connection, it wasn't exactly normal for a huge explosion to happen right outside a magical pub.

what if this whole crusade's a charade and behind it all there's a price to be paid December 1, 2025 @ani There were pieces of the puzzle still missing for Ana, she figured maybe Ani had broken some kind of rule or messed up—why else would her father want her dead? Still, having someone from the inside help take that family down was incredibly tempting and as Ani spoke Ana was trying to figure out her path forward. Or rather, their path forward. Ana had encountered Vetone, she was incredibly dangerous and ruthless, and Ana had thanked Merlin she had been dueling for the majority of her life in that she came out of those encounters without any serious injuries. If everything Ani was telling her was true then Ana had the upper hand, she needed protection from her family and the UK with its large presence of Magical Law Enforcement was the ideal place at the moment. If the incident in France proved anything it was that a single Ministry alone wasn’t going to stop them. Ana narrowed her eyes at Ani, she wasn’t here to play games with her especially when she could either attempt to arrest her or just walk away and avoid some kind of incident. The last thing she wanted to do was challenge Ani on that point, you underestimate your enemy and that was how you ended up dead. The wounds that Ani showed her looked brutal and not something that Ana herself had seen on a regular basis, but she recognized dark magic from her own upbringing and from her school years. It was the aftermath of a curse, though It had been stopped which meant that either Ani had healed it herself or someone had helped her. ”So that was you.” She wasn’t asking a question but making a statement, she’d had a hunch but the whole thing had been different from what she expected of the family. Ana had heard about that incident and the handful of Curse Breakers that had gotten injured in the process, though thankfully none of them killed. Considering it was Egypt and one of the busiest hubs for Curse Breaking it could have been a lot worse. Ana gave it another moment, decisions such as these were sensitive and sometimes above her paygrade despite her influence. But it wasn’t impossible. There were safehouses nearby she could use, and they were enchanted by former and current Curse Breakers along with other Ministry Law Enforcement personnel. If Ana brought her in as a voluntary prisoner, they would still interrogate her which wouldn’t do them much good, she knew Ani would never bend to that or they would have gotten something out of her in France. ”That wound is dark magic, who looked at it?” Curses didn’t ‘heal on their own’, Ana had seen enough in her own lifetime to match any retired Auror. ”You’ll need to have that looked at.” Ana didn’t relax and remained on guard, but she was learning that not all was what it seemed with that family. ”Did you stay in Egypt after that?”

Ani didn't actually know what her plan was if this failed. If Ana refused to help her. To come to some sort of deal. Going to interpol hadn't been Ani's first choice, obviously. If anything, it was her last, and only choice. There was nothing else, if Ana refused. Her family would find her and come for her eventually. Sure, she'd bought some time by coming to the UK, but that's all it was. time. Temporary relief. A bandaid. It did nothing to solve the actual problem at hand.
So, Ana had heard about the incident, good. At least she didn't have to explain it. Ani nodded. "Technically it was Vetone." She really did have the flair for the dramatics, Vetone. Still... though she wouldn't admit it, Ani did feel... bad about that incident. It had been in a crowded place. With many potential targets. Ani was cold hearted, but she didn't kill people that didn't need to die, and she didn't kill people that got in the way. No, while still an assassin, Ani didn't kill for sport. She'd been relieved to hear no one was seriously hurt. Vetone had been too focused on Ani to intentionally hurt anyone else.
Revealing the injuries was a risk. It meant Ana now knew that Ani was not at full strength. That she could, probably, take Ani down easily. If that didn't reveal the truth to Ani's words, nothing would. If all of this was a lie she'd never reveal an injury. If it was the truth, she still wouldn't reveal it unless absolutely necessary. No, Ani was telling the truth, and she was also revealing how desperate she really was. "Just a concerned citizen." She admitted. SHe wouldn't reveal Rhys' identity. The curse breaker that had helped her. As that would only put him at risk. Though, he was no healer. As Ana said she needed to have it looked at, Ani take her a weary look. "Where's the first place you would look if you were trying to find someone you'd injured?" Hospitals. You'd watch hospitals like a hawk. Waiting for your target to eventually limp in, desperate for medical aid. They might not be watching hospitals in the UK, but Ani wouldn't take that risk. Not in a million years. "Just long enough to recover." Specifically, just long enough to get back on her feet and keep moving.

what if this whole crusade's a charade and behind it all there's a price to be paid December 1, 2025 - @ani Ana believed Ani that her sister had been the instigator for the incident in Egypt, she could picture the file in her mind still and the witnesses and it was a small file since it had been dark, and one could hardly rely on the memory of inebriated Curse Breakers. Ana had duel with the sister previously, there was something in her style that aimed at creating as much chaos and destruction as possible rather than dueling with the others had been like. There was something to be said about their current position where Ana clearly had the upper hand and Ani had revealed that not only was she alone, but she was still injured, not at full strength. Ana in a bit of her own arrogance had considered any duel between them two where she slipped away as lucky or a product of lucky circumstances—surely it would be easier now if she wanted to take that route. Ana’s eyes narrowed a bit in curiosity, ”A concerned citizen? With some insight on dark magic?” That certainly narrowed the pool not that whoever that individual was would be a target for her per say. It was true, Vetone most likely did search the obvious places for signs of Ani but obviously failed as she sat here before her asking for help. There were a lot of variables that were uncertain though that hadn’t quite stopped her in the past. She had the foresight to not limit herself to cases that were “winnable” but make them a win in her book. But there was still quite the risk not only to her career but her life.
