A party. Or a ball. Whatever it was you wanted to call it. Either way, it was a big deal to the magical community. Renfri's presence, despite her dislike of formal events, was practically required. Her name, Selwyn, was what demanded her attendance. So, quite begrudgingly, she agreed to attend. THough, if she was going to deal with these stiffs, she wouldn't be alone. No, she'd immediately cornered all the former curse breakers at Hogwarts, demanding they go as well, then reached out to the ones still working in the field.
As much as she hated it, she got all dressed up, and arrived at the party. She held back a shiver as she stepped into the grand ballroom. It reminded her too much of Christmases growing up. Lavish parties, pretty dresses, pretending to be perfect for her parent's sake and trying to be a "good pureblood girl". While she missed certain things from her youth, she didn't miss these. Though, at least it might not be so bad with her friends. It was still pretty early, most people only just arriving before her, the party just starting to get up and going. Several waiters and waitresses were already starting to wander the party with trays of appetizers and drinks. One stopped by Renfri, offering her a glass of champagne. Though, not usually her drink of choice, old habits kicked in. She smiled politely and accepted the glass with her only working hand. She wandered the ballroom, taking small sips from the glass. Wondering if the others had come, hoping they had. Or at least, most of them.
Finally, she spotted some of them. They'd commandeered a corner of the ball room. It seemed that while several had come, this wasn't their scene, and they were choosing to stick together tonight. No surprise. it almost made Renfri laugh as she made her way to the Curse breaker "corner". "Don't we all clean up nicely."

Ilija had not wanted to go. He'd had no intention of going to some stupid ball filled to the brim with prissy pink princesses and perfect princes. Definitively not his scene. He apparently was getting a say in the matter though, which did nothing good for his mood. He'd worn a suit, nothing too fancy and made of a mud brown colour. He supposed he looked nice enough but his mood wasn't good. He'd reconnected with Rhys and well, the two had always been talented for making their own world fuctional. From what Ilija understood the drink of choice for the night would be whiskey for Rhys. Ilija didn't drink. He'd tried but it had never been pretty and he didn't want to develop a bad habit. He knew it could destroy him and well, he didn't need more of that. So he'd found himself a corner for himself and the others that were bound to be highly uncomfortable. He had an expression that predicted a bad mood.
So when Renfri came over commented on that they looked nice he raised an eyebrow, took out his wand and purposefully put some soot stains on his suit. "Why on earth are we here Ren?" He asked, motioning to the grand surroundings. "I'd be a lot more interesting if there were less living people and more traps of a not-social nature." Clearly not his kind of scene and while didn't resent her for making him show up, he was very uncomfortable and out of place. That much was more than obvious. He ran a hand through his messy red hair as he looked around. Perfect for socialising, maybe even meeting some interesting people. Just not for him. As if he could dance with his leg.

try to let go of the truth the battles of your youth December 24, 2025 Rhys adjusted his tie. It had been a while since he’d last been forced to wear one but if he was going to be dragged to such an event, he wasn’t going to look like he just came out of the field. It was strange to be home during the holidays after having missed a few now and while he enjoyed the time with his family, he missed the simplicity of drinking in a cave or a run-down shack with his closest friends drinking what the bottle labeled as “whiskey”. These lavish events had never been Rhys’ scene and not something he was incredibly accustomed to, but he managed, and he wasn’t really given much of a choice. The last thing he wanted was Renfri on his doorstep or with a Howler or both if he didn’t show up as per her request, but at least he wouldn’t be alone and as with these things he assumed there would be something he could drink to help him get through it. At minimum he knew she would be there, Jasper since he also worked at the school with her and Ilija since he’d reached out to him as well to ask him to go though, he told him that he was also being forced. Before he arrived Rhys had put back few whiskey’s to settle his nerves and he wondered if it was socially acceptable to go straight to the bar as soon as he arrived or how did this work? He walked in and saw that it wasn’t terribly crowded at least, which was a relief. Right away he spotted familiar bright red hair and saw that this is where they were gathering at least tonight. Ilija and Renfri were both here and he wondered who else would join them. ”This makes me miss spending Christmas in a cave.” He commented, they were both also dressed up though Ilija looked about as happy as he was to be here. The glass in her had had not gone unnoticed by him, and maybe would settle him until he found something stronger. ”Please tell me champagne is not the strongest drink they have.” If it was, then Rhys was in for a long night.

Well, here was the sullen duo. Foul moods and all. Ilija immediately had to prove her comment wrong and dirty his suit, and Renfri rolled her eyes. Childish. "A number of reasons." She started to explain. She could think of plenty for why Ilija was here. "One, you need to socialize with people. Two, I have to be here so you have to suffer with me. Three, getting out every once in a while is good for you. Or perhaps the most important reason that should have got you here on your own, your sister is helping cater and you want to show her support." He gave him a stern look. Of course she'd checked the guest list and saw who was working the party. And considering why Ilija had come back to the country, that reason alone should have got his ass here. Her look told him that. "I have more reasons, if you want them." She added with a polite smile, though it was more her "I will put a muzzle on you if you keep complaining" smile.
Rhys seemed just as unenthusiastic as Ilija, but at least he wasn't demanding reasons for being here, and instead stating the obvious. "So do I." This was the first Christmas she'd been home in... years. She took a larger sip from the glass. "I'd happily trade either of you. Because while you can sulk and enjoy the party, I have to put on a smile and pretend I actually like these people. I can't wait." She was not looking forward to this. Her parents' old friends cornering her to discuss pure blood politics. It was why she'd made sure to force all of them here, but especially Jasper. Jasper would be her back up when those lovely conversation started. Renfri held her glass out to Rhys after her spoke and his hope that champagne wouldn't be the strongest thing here. "Hold this." She waited until her only hand was free, then reached into the sling her dead arm lay. A moment later she pulled out a small silver flask and put it in Rhys' free hand. She took her own glass back. It didn't look like much.. to anyone that wasn't a curse breaker. Anyone that had worked with Renfri would recognize it though. Her enchanted flask that had an expansion spell on it. In tombs, it had always been filled with water, to keep everyone hydrated on a long job. Off the job though? Well, let's just say it had been a great way of carrying a lot of alcohol without the extra weight. How she'd got it in though... Well they weren't going to search a cripple's sling, were they? "You have to share it, Rhys," she added, though he may still try to drink it all. He could out drink all of them.

Nixie should have been home when the mail arrived. But no, she had been at work, signing paperwork and non disclosures for work. Just returning home from Rome, she was just in time for the holidays. Returning home, she round her mother shocked and awed at the invitation for her only daughter. Nixie wasn't the dress up and go to balls type of girl. She much preferred being knee deep in sludge and sewidge. While not preferred, she would do that over go to a ball. But there was no talking the woman out of it. She was already preparing for a trip into the city. Her baby girl needed a dress.....and make up....and she had to do something with her hair. Nixie was very glad to get an owl from Renfri, the others were going too. That made just about everything better. Nonetheless, Nixie dressed herself in a sparkly blue tank top, with a black jacket, she even let her mother help her with her makeup. Glancing in the mirror before leaving, Nixie hardly recognized herself.
Stepping into the grand ballroom was like stepping onto another planet. It was like a scene from a movie. The glamorous all around, some were dancing. She saw servers navigating the crowd with expertise. Each one holding a tray with food or drinks. Nixie couldn't believe her eyes. She froze, unsure what to do. Give her a wall of darts any day. But to her relieve, she spotted some good friends. Quickly darting over to them. She arrived just as Renfri was giving three reasons as to why they were here. Everyone looked dashing, which made her feel less like an odd duck. "Ok, no body laugh." she first stated as she walked up. She never dressed up, or wore make up. And her hair was there down, wild and free, or pulled up messily, just to get it out of the way.
Nixie saw Renfri pull out the well known flask and hand it to Rhys. "You look great Ren." She complimented, snatching the flask from her friend. "I need some of this." She opened it and took a swig of the golden liquid. Handing it back with a smile, finally feeling like this was where she belonged.

This was why Jasper preferred to live abroad. Being back in the area and invited to a ball, he was all but required to go. He was a Yaxley after all. He just preyed that he wouldn't bump into his parents. Unfortunately Yaxleys were expected at all high brow events. He was, after all, the product of good breeding. Attendance was what was expected. But he would be lying if he said that he didn't try to ignore it, or pretend that he wasn't who he was. That was, until he was cornered in the halls of Hogwarts by none other than Renfri. He knew he couldn't protest. The two of them had seen each other at a number of elegant parties while growing up. With a sigh, and a heavy eye roll, he agreed to go.
So, like a good little Yaxley, Jasper cleaned himself up, and dressed nicely. Appearances were everything. Holding his breath, and working hard to keep a neutral face as he stepped into the ballroom. Flashbacks of his childhood Christmas parties flooded him. But he wouldn't break down. He could fake a smile. As he walked in, he was immediately stopped by others who knew him because of his name. They hadn't seen him in a longtime, and he was instantly trapped by social conduct.
Thankfully he could use a great excuse. Quickly stating that he absolutely had to go and greet an old friend. They understood. He came up. "Hey guys." He smiled at the group. "Renfri, you have to help me stay away from them" Meaning his parents, but she would understand that. Unfortunately, it didn't take long for him to be called away by those he knew well, and they seemed to only want to speak to him because of his title. Right before having to walk away again, he gave them a quick "save me" look.

try to let go of the truth the battles of your youth December 24, 2025 Rhys listened as Renfri lectured Ilija on why he had to be present and he caught that his sister was going to be here, but in a working capacity. The three of them together like this reminded him of his school days, he’d found many friends in Hufflepuff and most of them had followed in similar career paths, but somethings never changed it seemed. So far everyone cleaned up well though none of them looked particularly comfortable or thrilled, but there were expectations he knew of her and perhaps Jasper as well. Perhaps the one time that his name was to his benefit, nobody expected anything much of him in this capacity. ”Oh yes, I’m sure everyone is waiting in line to talk to me.” Rhys responded with a heavy amount of sarcasm, his face and name were known though he was used to the whispers and stares. Elias had done some good in normalizing the Greyback name along with his siblings as well as their individual work in the world. She handed him a flask and his eyes lit up, he knew this flask very well and its magical properties and he shot Renfri a look at her comment. Though it didn’t stay in his hand long as it was snatched up not a few seconds later. Rhys went to protest and met with another familiar redhead, though one he’d never seen dressed up before. ”What are you—oh hey Nix.” She handed it back, but Rhys still held a look of offense on his face, and he also took a swig. ”You sure this will last us, Ren?” He asked, if it wasn’t then they would have to have some kind of Plan B if that was the case. Or rather he was making Renfri do it since it was her idea that they all suffer with her here. Rhys then heard another voice approach, ”Hey Jas.” And he held out the flask to him in case he wished to partake as well.

Ilija was better off for it all, that much was sure. He got to sulk, be in a bad mood and make mischief with Rhys before going back to the apartment that he shared with Teddy. He was still grateful to his friend for letting him stay as a room mate. Searching a flat for half a year just seemed like too much effort. It had gone with a little bit of explaining but Teddy wasn't a very difficult person to get along with. He rolled his eyes at Renfri. "Oh yes, keep them coming." He said with a full conviction of no enthusiasm at all. He supported his sister, that was spot on. He just would rather do it from home. Apart from that a part of him was still worried she took on too much and worked too hard. A ball like this had to be a lot of work and if she planned on crashing he supposed it was better if she had family around. Still, that was about the only valid reason to be here. He chuckled and nodded as Rhys mentioned spending Christmas in a cave. "I never had the cave thing. I did always come home to the family but a cave sounds more appealing than this." He complained cheerfully. At least Rhys was on his side here. Not that Ilija had any plans to drink, he'd leave that part to Rhys. Things never seemed to go right when he got drunk and he hadn't really wanted to try it too often either. Cas had once advised him not to try and drown his sorrows in bad habits and he'd stuck to that advice. He grinned as the flask that Ren offered Rhys was stolen by Nixie in a matter of seconds. "Too slow, bro." He said, nudging Rhys playfully. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't expected to behave too nicely. He looked at Nixie and nodded briefly. "You look stunning Nix. I don't like it." He teased playfully. She did look great but he wasn't one to see the point of looking pretty for their kind. They were a dirty, rowdy and messy bunch, not the suits and champagne types. Ilija sent Jasper a quick look of pity and made a motion to suggest a smoke bomb to break him out. He could get one easily enough he figured. One didn't get to be a curse breaker for as long as most of them had been without knowing a trick or two. He shrugged at Rhys claiming people would be in line to talk to him. "You can always run off and mingle Rhys. There seem to be a fair few people from our school days around between the horde of school kids. Perfect opportunity to make some trouble, I'd say. Might even keep the night interesting." He wasn't in the mood for behaving well all night with no purpose. Besides, being around his friends brought back some normalcy that he'd been missing since returning to the UK. He didn't have to worry about giving away any secrets about Hannah or his leg since they all knew that part and he wasn't planning on taking them home for the messes that he actually did hide from them. All in all there were few people he was more at ease with than his fellow curse breakers. rhys alexander greyback @renfri (also @nixie and Jasper but I won't tag em both <3)

Post by Casimir Elias Karkaroff on Dec 13, 2020 2:51:37 GMT -7
24 December 2025
It had become clear to Cas that he was going to be fashionably late to the royal ball. He’d gotten caught in a sale -- one that was important enough to require a home visit and extreme discipline in not glancing at the clock every few minutes. The negotiations had dragged on, but Cas knew the game well enough by now that victory was a foregone conclusion. The visit had stretched into hours but eventually the reluctant owner had accepted his very generous offer. After that he’d only needed to stop by an Ouroboros safe house to store the artifact– some curses were simply too Dark to be allowed to freely move around Knockturn, after all. So although Cas was thoroughly tardy, a trait he did not appreciate, he was undoubtedly in a good mood. The number of guests was larger than he was used to but it was nonetheless a situation he was well-prepared for. How many dinners and parties had he attended with his family, forced to play the polite and repentant Karkaroff to bring some honor back to the family name? He’d been playing at a disadvantage for years, but now the Karkaroffs were finally in a more stable position. Cas would have preferred to drag Anya along – she was the only other Karkaroff he knew for certain despised these things more than he did, so they could at least suffer together. But he needed to make the rounds, and play the politely interested guest, so it was probably for the better he was alone. His eyes almost naturally gravitated towards the small group of former and current cursebreakers in the corner of the room, but he resisted the temptation to walk straight over. Instead, he made polite conversation with some vague connections – maybe he’d gone to school with a brother or sold an artifact to an aunt. He counted out three conversations before deciding he’d made a good start, and redirected to join the cursebreakers. He’d helped train most of them, and worked at least a job or two with the rest. Cas approached, and under the pretense of checking his cufflinks did a quick scan of everyone who’d showed up. He gave a subtle smile as he moved to stand by Renfri and Rhys. The latter had offered a flask to Jasper, who had quickly been pulled away into a stifling conversation, so Cas snatched the flask instead and examined it closely. “Better pace yourself, rookies,” Cas warned as his smile turned wry, “or people will think this is the first time you’ve ever been in civilized company. And ‘sloppy drunk’ isn’t a good look for at least two of you.” @renfri , rhys alexander greyback , and anybody else

try to let go of the truth the battles of your youth December 24, 2025 Renfri had seemed determined that they all suffer with her and Rhys would have to keep this in mind the next time he needed a favor or anything from her. He much preferred the food and drink he’d shared with her and Jasper the two weeks back in that small bar in that tiny village to anything this extravagant. Even when he had been home for the holidays nothing, he did would ever bee on this level. Ilija laughed at his comparison to the cave and he smiled back, unfortunately the circumstances hadn’t given them a lot of time together on the job, but it didn’t matter as much now. The time had passed, what was done is done. Nixie had read his mind about the drinking, though thankfully gave the flask back. He looked at her again, he was used to seeing the fiery red head covered in dirt or in an oversized jacket with her hair up and the same with Renfri. ”I will say the girls cleaned up better than we did.” They both looked fantastic, and all of them appeared out of their element. Rhys shrugged, ”I could mingle, but its more the fact that I don’t want to.” He was known for his general dislike of crowds and socializing preferring to hang out with a bottle of whiskey for company, but he knew Renfri wouldn’t let him get away with that. ”Then again, we could always stir up some trouble like we used to do.” Ilija would remember their school days and Renfri glaring at them every chance she got for whatever shenanigans they were up to as boys. However, before Rhys could actually drink from the flask again it was snatched away a second time and he looked up with his brows furrowed in annoyance until he saw who had grabbed it. ”Look who decided to grace us with his presence.” It had been some time since he’d seen his old mentor, but he half smiled though it faded when he commended on the amount of dinking that hadn’t occurred yet. Rhys was used to the comments, and he let them slide since this group of people was the closest thing he had to a family aside from his half-siblings. ”Really Cas you can’t expect us to get through this sober, do you?” Rhys grabbed the flask back from him and took a hefty drink from it. His face grimacing a bit at the burn though the burn was always welcome. As he replaced the cap back on the flask, he glanced around to see that the number of people had increased greatly in a short period of time and he did a double take when he glanced to see a woman in a stunning blue dress enter, her father at her side. He forgot she might be here and suddenly he felt the urge to drink more to help keep his heart from racing as he finally looked away. Ilija and Renfri knew about the fight and how it had been the fight, he most definitely was not going to want to be sober. @renfri , Casimir Elias Karkaroff ,@ilija ,@nixie

Well, there was something she'd never thought she'd see. Nixie McKraken in a dress. Nixie was one of the biggest tomboys of the curse breaking women. Though she didn't look bad, just, different. Renfri offered a smile, though as Nixie immediately told them not to laugh, she felt it best not to mention the girl's appearance any further as she was clearly uncomfortable enough. Though, she beat Rhys to the punch, taking the flask and downing a chug before he'd even gotten a chance. Renfri snorted. "Take it easy, Nixie. That'll have you passed out on the floor if you drink to fast." While most the curse breakers could handle their alcohol quite well, Nixie was also the smallest, meaning she would always get drunk the fastest. Just a fact of body mass.
Though, a few moments later, and Jasper appeared, telling her that she would have to help him stay away from "them". She knew who he meant. That was exactly why she'd demanded he come. So that they would both have easy ways out of uncomfortable, or unwanted conversations tonight. His family and family friends wouldn't stop him from spending time with "suitable" company, such as a Selwyn, and likewise her own wouldn't question her leaving to talk to a Yaxley. They were perfect escape routes. "I'll find you if you start looking too uncomfortable." And though she didn't say it, the hidden message of "And you better do the same" was clear. Though, he was fine for now. They should both do a little socializing, for appearances sake, before they started dragging each other way from unwanted company.
Renfri had been keen on ignoring Ilija and Rhys' complaining tonight, at least until Ilija mentioned causing trouble. Her eyes narrowed at the pair. Oh, they'd know the look. While they'd all been friends growing up, Renfri had always been the "responsible" one. The one dragging them out of the trouble they caused and trying, usually to no success, to keep them out of further trouble. They also seemed quite keen on the idea, something that Renfri was now thoroughly disliking as there was no way she culd keep them both out of trouble... when, Casimir appeared. As if sent by god. There'd been something between them, once upon a time. But it was a long time ago, and they were simply friends now. "I'm pretty sure this is the first time they've been in civilized company," she commented with a serious tone, though her smile gave away the teasing. Though.. to be honest, it might be the first time they'd been at something this fancy.
Despite the sullen moods, it was nice. Having everyone here, together. Sure, it was fancier, but it was almost like old times. Back before Jasper and Renfri's retirement. Though, she was still keeping a glaringly close eye on the two trouble makers, as if waiting to see what they might pull first. Her gaze even followed Rhys' across the room, to settle on a familiar woman in a blue dress. Immediately Renfri lightly whacked Rhys on his arm. "No." She didn't say why, but he'd know. He was NOT messing with Deva tonight. No way in hell. The man had a way of digging himself into the deepest holes, particularly with women. God, she should have anticipated his ex would be here. Now she had to worry about keeping him away from her.

24 December 2025
Cas shot Rhys an amused look as he made an impertinent comment about his late appearance. Since Cas had spent some time training him before his departure, they were familiar with each other’s styles – among them, Cas’s distaste for anybody sloppy enough to be late to something, and Rhys’s tendency to talk first and think later. At least in this context, it was only former coworkers enjoying themselves at a party and not, say, bounty hunters in a seedy bar. So there was no risk of a fistfight, and no need for Cas to drag Rhys away by the collar before he could lose his temper. Cas had very little patience for petty drama, or anything that could be strictly avoided. And he had absolutely no patience at all for people who should know better but didn’t anyway. He raised an eyebrow as Rhys snatched the flask from him. “I tend not to force these things. I arrive exactly when I need to.” It was a pretty typical answer from him – that is, not much of one at all. Rhys complained about getting through the night sober, and Cas shook his head. “Definitely not,” he agreed – he’d played the game enough that it was comfortable to navigate these treacherous waters, but it didn’t mean he enjoyed it. No, Cas planned on having a drink in his hand the entire night, because there was no way to schmooze for hours without it. “But you could at least drink as if you’re not used to doing it from a trough.” His eyes traced over Renfri’s injured arm – he hadn’t seen her in years since their brief involvement, and he’d only heard about her injury through other cursebreakers. He rarely visited at St. Mungo’s (it felt too sentimental), although there were some pieces of news like Ilija that could drive him to it – those had been extreme circumstances, although already years in the past. Cas brought his hand up to trail his fingers lightly down over Renfri’s arm. “This is new,” he murmured, “Good story to go with it?” Rhys’s faraway gaze and Renfri’s strict tone made him suspect that there was underlying drama at play – not that he much cared what it was. But keeping Rhys grounded wouldn’t be difficult while Cas was around – he could be unforgiving about getting his way. A server was passing by with a tray of drinks (Cas didn’t know what, but he could see they were hot, festive, and most importantly alcoholic) so he stopped the man. After Cas grabbed a drink, the man made to leave but Cas shook his head and made a curt gesture. “Leave the tray.” He took the silver tray of drinks without another word and shoved it into Rhys’s hands to bring his attention back towards the group. “You’re free to go,” Cas informed the wide-eyed server before he turned his full focus back on the unruly cursebreaker. “I don’t care to know the whole story, but if you insist on giving Renfri a headache the least you can do is hold her drinks.” rhys alexander greyback , @renfri , and others

While Ilija understood why people loved alcohol he always felt a little awkward being sober while everybody else started drinking. He knew it was the best choice since he wasn't exactly good company when the intoxication took over he almost wished he could let go of his inhibitions in a similar way. Luckily right now only Rhys was paying any sort of attention to him, which likely meant he could slip away from this entire thing as soon as everybody was distracted enough. It felt like a blessing and he smiled quietly as his friends were starting their rowdy banter. Still he looked quietly as Rhys spotted his ex. It was interesting to see people after such a long time, how they'd changed but were still pretty much the same. Almost nobody changed as drastically as he did, thankfully. He shot Rhys a sympathetic look and mouthed at him. I'll help if you need a break. He subtly nodded his head in the direction of Deva, as he knew his friend was struggling and well, it didn't look like she was having the time of her life currently. Would anybody if they looked like their parents were forcing them to do something? He almost burst out laughing as he realised that it perfectly described his own situation, only with Renfri having been his supposed parent. She'd probably kill him if he tried to leave now but that didn't mean he couldn't stir up a little trouble to make his escape later a bit easier. "Rhys, I'm open to suggestions." He said with a wicked grin on his face. It was time to rowdy the place up and find something interesting to make the passage towards the exit a little easier. rhys alexander greyback

try to let go of the truth the battles of your youth December 24, 2025 Renfri’s look was one Rhys had been very accustomed to seeing, whether it was during school or during their work. If anything, Rhys and especially with Ilija, tried to see what they needed to do or say in order to push her buttons. Sometimes it was easy, and at least tonight where they were all together for the first time in so many years it just felt required to do so. Rhys felt good, much as he’d had when he had met up with Renfri and Jasper and drank and laughed and told stories. His stress level had been incredibly this month and it was night to find a reason to smile. Cas seemed to be on Renfri’s side which wasn’t a surprise to Rhys. They had been while he was a new Curse Breaker and in training and while he had learned a lot from him in terms of work and life in general their personalities still differed greatly as much as they overlapped. ”I’m sorry not all of us had such distinguished upbringings.” He responded at Cas’ quip about the trough, despite his name he was a pureblood as was Renfri and Jasper and therefore were raised with events such as these. Rhys knew the power a name could have in a good and bad way, but his tone and was purely mischievous now. Ilija seemed the be the only one on his side as he gave him a look, another familiar one that didn’t need words but got them on the same page. The story of Renfri’s accident was known to the Curse Breakers but the details not so much, Cas seemed a bit behind on that. ”What? I wasn't doing anything.” Rhys responded annoyed as Renfri hit his arm and his gaze returned to the group. He hadn’t thought that he had been that obvious when he’d spotted Deva, but he gave an annoyed look nonetheless and one that persisted when Cas shoved a tray of drinks in his hand. ”That’s alright, more for me.” Rhys balanced the tray on one of his hands and grabbed a drink with the other. It was warm, but he could pick up the taste of alcohol when he sipped. The banter was fun and reminded him of better days though it was unfortunate he couldn’t throw back these beverages quickly as they weren’t cold. Seeing Deva had unsettled him more than he thought it would. So he tried to think of something else. ”Ilija-do you remember Potions our…seventh year, I think, where we put a small curse on that whats-his-face’s cauldron?” NEWT Level potions had been chaos in terms of all of them being grouped together and somehow still passing with high marks. ”I think it works well on bottles as well.” He said glancing at the drink table where the bottles of champagne where ceremoniously placed. Of course, he wasn’t going to cause a scene, but it was fun to think of ideas.

The question that Rhys directed at him made Ilija chuckle. Oh the dear sweet memories of their wild years. It was almost like very little had changed. He frowned slightly. "I think I remember like three different times, although some might have been in our sixth year?" He asked almost doubtfully. "I remember that Hannah suggested two of them and you suggested the other of the set. I just executed some." He wasn't sure if it'd been two or not. Sometimes those details got lost in the chaos. "But I'm guessing you mean the bubble one? Where it was like we'd loaded it up with soap and the entire classroom just filled up with bubbles entirely the moment somebody added a single drop of something to the water?" He asked, mostly to clarify. He also vaguely remembered one where the potion would evaporate into colourful fumes that had made him very dizzy and then another that had turned every potion into a batch of wriggling worms. All three of them had been very funny at the time but not all of them seemed perfect. The can of worms didn't seem to suit the event. Too course for a royal ball. The bubbles or fumes could be fun on the other hand. He grinned brightly as Rhys mentioned it could work on bottles and his eyes darted around the room, searching for bottles to possibly curse. He nudged Rhys slightly as he spotted champagne on a table. "I mean, we could give the bubbles a little extra pop." He suggested in a conspirator type of whisper. It was almost like the good old days, except Hannah wasn't pitching in. He could almost her hear voice in his mind though, suggesting fun ideas to make everything more interesting and entertaining. Oh how terribly he missed her. She would have hated this event as much as he had until this plotting had begun. She'd have loved that with all her heart. Pranking was starting to feel like a great way to honour her memory though, even more so now that he and Rhys had reconnected. rhys alexander greyback
