September 2025 @priscilla
Babies had a way of just melting the hearts of people. Especially when they were this little. Just something about them that you couldn't resist. At least, that's how Charlotta felt. She'd always known she wanted children, but biologically speaking that wasn't really possible with her wife. Not unless one of them wanted to use a sperm donor and neither had been too keen on the idea. At least not right now. Maybe later on... if they decided to have a second child. Charlotta knew that they'd have their hands full with the one for quite a while.
Though, speaking of hands full, Charlotta smiled softly as she watched her sister-in-law and daughter. Jayli was a quiet baby, on the mellow side. So she wasn't putting up any fuss at being in "a stranger's" arms. Charlotta liked to think that Jayli already recognized the family connection, as silly as it sounded. It made her sad though. That, unless Priscilla's parents changed their opinions Jayli could go without knowing that side of her family. Of course, Charlotta's family was quite accepting, but they were in Finland. Her mother planned on coming to spend a week or two after the new year with the couple, but visits with the Holopainen family would be limited. Hell, Charlotta had no idea when her brother might manage to visit, but to no fault of his own. His schedule was absolutely packed for at least the next six months. It was more likely that Charlotta would find time to visit him with the baby long before he found the time to visit her. "We decided to hyphen her last name. Holopainen-Rosier." She didn't think her wife had mentioned it to Priscilla. No doubt the Rosier parents would hate it, but on this matter, Charlotta would tell them to suck it up and deal with it.

September 2025 "We decided to hyphen her last name. Holopainen-Rosier."
While a double-barrelled or even triple-barrelled surname wasn't uncommon among aristocracy in Britain, Priscilla wasn't as thrilled about the hyphenation of her little niece's surname. It made sense, of course, that Charlotta and her sister would want to combine their surnames for their daughter's sake, but it would be such a horrid mouthful. "Holopainen-Rosier" was clunky, as names went, and "Jayli Holopainen-Rosier" hardly sounded natural at all. Not including the "Holopainen" part didn't seem right, and Priscilla knew that her parents would have been even more embarrassed by the situation if they had gone with "Rosier" alone for a child whose blood wasn't totally pure. "Holopainen" alone might have been better for all involved, really, since Priscilla assumed that her sister had already essentially forfeited any chance of inheritance of a single Knut of the family wealth.
Still, Jayli wasn't her child, and Priscilla—as much as the infant's name wouldn't have been her choice—would have to live with it. She remained silent, as though she hadn't heard Charlotta's comment at first, and focused on the baby, allowing a few moments to pass before she spoke. When she responded, her voice was free of any inflection. "Oh," she answered her sister-in-law. "That's nice."
Priscilla knew that Charlotta and her sister weren't stupid enough not to have considered that they probably wouldn't get the happiest reaction to their daughter's name from the Rosier side of the family, estranged though they were. They would find out without her divulging that she had actually snuck off to the hospital to see her niece, too, Priscilla guessed. For better or for worse, that was how society worked. There was always a steady stream of gossip; although the source of it wasn't always clear, there was always something on everyone's lips.

Charlotta could almost hear Priscilla's thoughts as she heard Jayli's surname. It definitely would be long, that was something that she and her wife had considered. But the issue was that Charlotta had not taken her wife's name when they got married, plus there was the added complication of her wife's ex. So, they'd chosen something that gave their child a bit of both of them. Because at the end of the day, as much as the Rosier parents would love to deny it, their daughter was still a Rosier, and by default so was this child. While it wasn't the intention, it was ironically a little jab at the family connection. They could try to deny their daughter and now granddaughter all they wanted, but the world would know who Jayli was. And Charlotta was not ashamed of that. Though, that was also why they'd chosen a short first name for Jayli. With a long surname, it would be a nightmare if she also had a long first name.
Though, that was a fight for down the road, should the Rosier parents ever decide to reconnect with their daughter. Maybe someday they'd open up. As unlikely as that seemed, Charlotta still held out hope. "You're sister and I bought a cottage. Nice and quiet, away from the city." She started to explain, pausing for a moment as the baby cooed. She smiled down at her little daughter. "When we bring her home, you're welcome whenever you want, Priscilla." Or need. Considering current events... Priscilla's life was quite the rollercoaster and no doubt the Rosier parents weren't helping at all. Priscilla was still a teenager. A teenager with little direction after being expelled from Hogwarts. Thankfully no charges had been brought forward against her, but that was still very much a "yet". There was no promise being expelled would be Priscilla's only punishment for what had happened at Hogwarts. Priscilla's life was like balancing on the edge, hoping the wind wouldn't come to sweep you over the edge.

September 2025 Priscilla might not have had any control over her niece's name, but she could live with it. Especially with how generous Charlotta and her sister were being towards her when no one else was, she could swallow her pride at least a little bit. Her parents' attitudes towards all of it were a question for another time, considering that neither of them were there to comment on it directly. If Charlotta had any hope that Jayli's grandparents on the Rosier side would come around, Priscilla wasn't so optimistic, but that wouldn't stop Priscilla from skirting around her mother and father to see her niece.
Beyond the baby herself, Charlotta then told her that she and her sister had purchased a cottage somewhere away from the city. Priscilla doubted that a cottage would be very comfortable, but maybe it would be like how some magical buildings were, where they were actually much bigger and much more luxurious on the inside than appearances might suggest. Either way, the point Charlotta was making was that, once they brought the baby home, she was welcome to stay with them, too.
"Thank you," Priscilla nodded to Charlotta, but she focused on Jayli again. "Would you like to see more of Aunty Cilla soon?" she asked her gently, her voice rising as before as she addressed her niece.

To be honest, Charlotta hoped Priscilla would take her up on the offer. Priscilla had gotten herself into quite the mess and Charlotta 100% blamed the Rosier parents for it. Of course, Priscilla was also at fault. But children learned from the examples others set. Being married a Rosier and seeing how the parents had reacted to Charlotta's presence had given her quite a bit of knowledge into the dynamics of the family. Or rather, the disfunction of it. The "pureblood" pressure. The arranged marriages. Charlotta almost shuddered at the thought of her wife's ex husband. She couldn't stand the man, but the Rosier parents still loved him more then they'd ever like her. All because of her gender. Because her wife had left a "man from a good pureblood family" to be with her, a woman with no real prominent pedigree. Despite everything Charlotta had done to make a name for herself. All the Rosier parents seemed to care about was the blood status and what was between her legs.
Charlotta smiled as Priscilla continued to speak to the baby. Jayli, of course, cooed up at her aunt. "She likes you," Charlotta commented. Maybe, just maybe, spending some quality time with Charlotta, her wife, and Jayli would be good for Priscilla. To help break the cycle. "Do you have any plans for after you turn 17? If you'd like, we have a receptionist position open at the label. Nothing fancy, but it could get you out of your parents house a little bit." Though, the Rosier parents would probably be very upset if Priscilla took Charlotta up on the offer, she offered none the less. Because... to be honest? Considering Priscilla's record... it was going to be very difficult for her to find work when she started looking...

September 2025 "She likes you," Charlotta told her upon seeing how comfortable Jayli appeared to be while in her arms. Priscilla wasn't too surprised by that (because of course her niece would like her), but she understood, in theory, why Charlotta might have had her reservations. It was almost funny, though Charlotta was technically family. That was almost aggravating, on the other hand, because she, of all people, should have known that her expulsion from Hogwarts had been completely undeserved. She wasn't a murderer, though she felt that that had become the perception of her. And she certainly wasn't going to do anything to harm her niece.
Charlotta then asked her if she had any plans for once she turned seventeen. Priscilla wanted to know what Charlotta thought the answer to that question was, but instead she waited to see what Charlotta had to say. She was glad that she did, too, because Charlotta mentioned that they had a position for a receptionist open at the record label. Although she mentioned that it was nothing fancy, just the thought of being free of her parents to an extent and making her own money had a certain allure.
"…Is that an offer?" Priscilla checked, looking between Jayli and Charlotta. If it was, she wasn't going to hesitate to take it. Working as the receptionist at a record label wasn't what she really wanted to do with her life, but it put her one step closer and, in a way, a step above her former peers at Hogwarts.
