▲ The sudden urgency from Brígh and the message from her brother's patronus had Lily on edge. The closest feeling she had to compare this too was from when she played Quidditch, and the nervous excitement that came with the first match of the season. But trying to put a potential dangerous situation up next to a fun game wasn't right, even if her head tried to tell her it was. This was serious and she was being tasked with trying to get Gryffindor out of the tower and supposedly out of the castle entirely. The handy dandy map told her there weren't many hanging around in the tower, and even less on the upper floors of the castle. Most were already down at dinner and milling about elsewhere. Uncle Charlie hadn't even made the trek up from his 'office' on the grounds, so her plan was to ask him if there was anything to worry about once she got outside. Luckily rallying the few Gryffindor left would be easy, since it was just Steve and a couple other easily swayed individuals. An adventure! Is what she would call it. If it amounted to nothing, then they could all go to dinner instead. If only it had stayed that way. By the time her ragtag gang of goofy Gryffindors strolled down the floors (with the intention of just going to dinner because literally nothing had happened yet), it became fairly apparent that there was something wrong on the second floor. A plume of smoke could be seen coming from where the stairs down were, and she was immediately stopped by Steve, who went to investigate ahead of them. A minute later and he was skidding around the corner yelling about there being an uncontrolled fire, with numerous inhabitants of paintings telling him along the way that they needed to leave. Now. The confusion left Lily standing in the middle of the corridor as her group started to scatter in random directions, probably looking to leave the castle other ways than through the main entrance. "Wait!" she yelled at the ones that had started to quicken their pace. "There's another way out...behind one of the statues,". The One-Eyed Witch, to be exact. She had never personally traversed the passageway, but she knew it led into the basement of Honeyduke's. They couldn't be blamed for going that way if something was seriously wrong, and considering what James's patronus had said, there really could be a battle occurring below them. Lily led them towards the statue, and cast the spell to open up the passageway, Dissendium, and the hump on the One-Eyed Witch slid open in front of them. She directed Steve to run back up to the Ravenclaw tower, and he obliged, with the knowledge that he may need to bring them out of ythe castle a different way if the fire went past where it was. Everyone else, she motioned with her hands to start going down the slide into the passage, and then pulled her map out once she was on her own, looking for other people that were still on the third floor and above. THE ORDER WAS SIMPLE AND UNEQUIVICAL. Albus was a trainee and he was not permitted to fight at Hogwarts when the summons leaked out to his small, strained portion of the Ministry. He had perhaps heard a little earlier than others in his position, Al's father was the infamous Harry Potter after all. But, by the time he realised he was not allowed, Al had already decided that he was going. His dad was there, James was there... Lily.
Though he knew his family was more than capable of handling the infiltration and themselves, it was still incredibly dangerous. Al thought about staying behind briefly, just to see how it felt, and rejected it so completely that he'd already moved in anticipation to Apparate before anybody could realise he was missing. A sharp yank in the middle of his gut and Al was crash landing behind a rack of fizzing whizzbee's at Honeyduke's.
As much as Al knew he had to participate, he was not dumb enough to drop himself right in the middle of the action. He could hear the thundering boots outside the small shoppe, heart racing as he recalled every nook and cranny James had every pointed out to him. Every secret passageway he had been told about while at Hogwarts, like myths really. The closest, and most obvious choice, was the passageway apparently located under Honeyduke's. He could use it to get in, help as many people as he could, and leave without his father ever finding out about it. It felt genius, it felt too easy.
Al was just a little too tall for the passageway when he finally found it in the basement when he found it, the damp cold chilling his bones as he cast a Lumos to light his way. A stack of boxes kicked to one side so that he could clear the entrance. The looming darkness just a little too quiet. And then, there was a brief prickling at the back of his neck, the chemical smell of Fiendfyre beginning to tickle his nostrils, before a body materialised out of the dark. "Fire! There's a fire!" The small shadow screamed in to his face, smelling of soot and panic. Albus gripped their shoulders, catching his breath as he tried to see reason in their face. There was just a single moment of eye contact before they gave up and shoved past him, taking off into a run as if they had given up on him. And then, another.
Soon enough, Albus realised he was not the only one who had the thought to use the passageway as a direct way out of (or into) Hogwarts. Some students passed him with a chilling calm, others scraping their elbows on the jagged walls as they ran by. He managed to send a few orders to the few who stopped to listen, reminding them that it was Ministry orders to get away from the fire and out of Hogwarts, to stay in groups, and look for an official on the streets. It was ironic, of course, he was breaking the rules himself as he moved in the opposite direction.
The smell of Fiendfyre grew in potency the further Al travelled. Eventually, he saw the light at the opening and his heart stuttered as he ran a hand across the cooling stone as it narrowed once again. And then, the light was disrupted as a figure was cast in shadow - they were not rushing to escape, in fact they seemed rather calm as they bent their head over something. Al realised, squinting through the dark, that he knew those narrow shoulders and thin, spindly arms.
"Lily?!" He exclaimed, a hand over his mouth as a gust of smoky air blew across the space ominously. He ducked as he came out of cover, the space remarkably untouched, but in danger of destruction at any moment. "Lily, what are you doing?!" He snapped, frowning down at what lay clutched in her hand. "You're supposed to be- wait.." He closed the space between them rapidly. "Is that the map?" He asked accusingly.

▲ Steve made it to the Ravenclaw tower and spent what felt like an eternity at the door, as viewed by Lily on the map. Little by little though, she started seeing feet appear at the entrance to the common room, which meant that he had been successful. She hadn’t even realized that she had bit deep into her lower lip until she went over it with her tongue and felt indents from her teeth. The whole endeavor was anxiety inducing. Watching what was going on throughout the rest of the castle didn’t help at all either, and while she knew Steve and the Ravenclaws were probably safe for the time being, there were a lot of people on the map that weren’t moving. Or were and then suddenly they weren’t. The Great Hall was sort of a mystery to her because more than half of the footprints and names there were sitting at the tables still, the rest moving frantically between the tables or out the front entrance. What did any of that mean? And then there was her, solitary on the third floor. The closest person seemed to be Professor Zabini, alone in a corridor in the second floor and slowly moving backwards. She had to assume that meant he was trying to fight back the fire, but no one else was around to help him. As for the Gryffindors she had sent down the tunnel, they eventually disappeared off of the edge of the map and into the zone marked Hogsmeade. There were certain parts that weren’t covered, so she felt okay knowing that they were at least that far already. But there was one set headed back towards her, opposite of where she had sent her housemates. Albus Potter. And he was moving a lot faster than any of the students had been in their escape. He soon appeared out of the entrance to the passageway, and Lily ran over to him, wrapping her arms around his middle despite the stern words he started to give her. “I led them here,” she yelled back at him. “The second floor is blocked by a fire, and I sent someone up to get the Ravenclaws from their tower. I can’t leave until they get here. Look!” She made sure to unfold the map to show Steve’s group, where he was being followed by at least a dozen other names. They were only on the fifth floor, but going at a steady pace. She wanted to ignore the remark about the map, but also knew that it was her greatest tool right now. If Al knew about what it could do, then it would be useful to him as well if he took it. “I was told by Brígh to try and get people out of the castle after James’s patronus showed up in the dorms. So that’s what I’m doing. And something is going on in the Great Hall too,” she threw back at him. The smoke was starting to pick up a bit more around them, and the worry that there wasn’t much time before the fire followed was creeping its way into her head. She had to wait for Steve and the Ravenclaws. If not, she’d run to them and they could find a different exit. There were still a few ways out into courtyards, they just involved some maneuvering of the corridors. “Are people able to disapparate from the school right now? Because there are some disappearing from the dungeons. I’m positive there isn’t an exit down there.”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

NOT MUCH FO A HUGGER HIMSELF HE WAS shocked when Lily threw arms around him. And it wasn't in an attempt to chokehold him to the ground, which meant she must be in a terrible state. His eyes wide with shock as he gripped her arms and regarded her with concern, eyes roving over her smoke-dusted red hair. She looked fine, if a little harried with the shock of it all, wide eyed and feral looking. And of course she would be playing saviour, it was part of the reason he'd defied orders and come. She'd certainly dive head first into trouble, it was her modus operandi.
"There are aurors who are trained to do that here," He told her sternly, sighing through his nose, though he was impressed by her thought to use the map to aid others towards safety. It was good, just incredibly risky as the school was quickly being consumed by fire. "And Order members; I certainly doubt James will avoid the thick of it." Albus wasn't sure of this was said in an attempt to reassure Lily, or to insult his brother. "We don't need you."
Al looked down at the map as she pointed out the blocked Ravenclaw quarters. "I'll send a patronus, there are more qualified people to clear the area." He told her in exasperation, though his eyes scanned the map with a mounting dread. It was terrible; great droves of footprints all clashing together, or erratically scaling the corridors. He did not immediately notice the fading footprints, but he knew something wasn't quite right about it all at first glance. "Who did you send- I'll go get them?" He began to move Lily out of his way, stepping around her when Lily went on to mention Brigh.
"B-" Al's face was purpling and he lifted a dirt smudged hand and pinched the skin between his brows to compose himself. "Brigh is not the leader of the operation and neither are you!" He raised his voice slightly, his nostrils flaring. It did not surprise him that Brigh would be the type to corral a group of brave Gryffindor idiots to fight a castle full of potential terrorists. "You're only responsible for getting yourself out of here, you know that right?" He bent his head slightly, though not by much.
And then, almost as soon as she said it, Al realised what it was about the map that bothered him. His eyes widened and a sick feeling knotted his stomach immediately. He took a quick step towards Lily and snatched the map from her hands viciously. He held it behind him and away from her, his heart beating out of his chest. "You can't disapparate from Hogwarts, you know that!" He told her in a cold panic, his fingers flexing hard on the map as he gripped it tightly. "The wards are still up and they have to stay up during an attack." The feet were not disappearing because people were disapparating, they were disappearing because people were dying. "We have to go..."

▲ “And where are those aurors right now?” Lily countered back. This was a squabble that didn’t need to be happening right now. All she was trying to do was the right thing, which was making sure that everyone above the second floor was evacuated. Quite literally this was all she could do right now aside from running out of the secret tunnel to save herself. The map showed her where everyone was in the castle and she could relay that to those willing to help. How did Albus not understand that? She had convinced herself that she was necessary to whatever was going on right now, and her brother was wrong about it. He and James didn’t get to dictate what she did and she was more than capable of making smart decisions. The real problem was that she couldn’t just through a temper-tantrum in the middle of the corridor while a fire raged uncontrolled on the floors below them. Losing her cool only put her on the same level as Albus and she wasn’t willing to stoop to that right now. It was frustrating that he deemed himself useful when he didn’t even know what was going on in the first place. He should have been giving her a pat on the back and thanking her for getting the Gryffindors out and arranging the same to be done for the Ravenclaws. “I sent Steve. He’s a Gryffindor in my year. I gave him another route to go if the fire pushed too far up by the time he made it back down here,” Lily explained even though she knew it was pointless to do so. Al was already berating her about Brígh telling her what to do, seemingly repeating his line about letting ‘the correct people’ do this. “I can’t leave until Steve gets back with the Ravenclaws,” she repeated. “I’m responsible for all of them because I sent him up to their tower.”Albus only reiterated what she already knew about Hogwarts: one couldn’t disapparate from the grounds at all. But she sort of assumed that in times of emergency that could be lifted. It made sense in her head more than why names would be disappearing off of the map for no good reason. Maybe it was floo powder instead? That seemed like it could be easier to control since it was just a fireplace. But Albus stated that the wards were still up. “No!” Lily screamed at him as he grabbed ahold of the map and seemingly tried to get her to start moving towards the secret path. She could only hold her ground for so long before he would probably try to physically force her out of the corridor and down the tunnel. “I’m trying to help Al! It’s the only thing I can do right now. If the fire looks like it’s going to reach me, I’ll run out. But you’re not making me leave until the group gets here and you’re not taking the map.” Trying to reach around him to grab at his hands, she knew it was useless now. Leaving without Steve and the Ravenclaws though? She’d never be able to live that one down if something ended up happening to them. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

AS ALWAYS, LILY'S STUBBORN EYE CAUGHT AL IN a corner. He swallowed harshly, thinking of all the aurors he'd seen leave the Ministry to attend the scene of the attack. They were not swarming the passages. They were not gathering his little sister and her friends up and ushering them outside. They were outside, fighting the onslaught at the gates. It made for a lot of heads unaccounted for. He felt sick at the thought, the relief and finding his sister quickly suffocated.
"You sent- okay you sent Steve." Al pressed mortar dusted fingers against his eyes, steeling himself before he yelled at his little sister in a crisis - again. "Who the bloody hell is Steve?!" Even though, quite clearly, she had already told him who Steve was, Al felt no more sure. "You're mental," He muttered, swallowing thickly. "Why would you send anybody up during a fire attack, the whole place is ready to fall down!" But, Al knew why. There were dorms up there; Lily was being a Potter. Ever the saviour, he thought bitterly.
They fought over the map briefly, Lily's stern face almost frightening in its fierceness. Albus relinquished it mostly to save himself from a full body tackle, which he knew Lily was prone to when provoked. Her voice shrill and high as she yelled at him through the crumbling and the distant screaming. "Fine! Fine..." He breathed, gripping her shoulders to steady them both before he sighed. "I'll stay with you." He told her firmly. "We'll stick together." It was the only way he could justify letting her stay in the building. If he couldn't physically remove her, well he'd just have to join the bumbling group of teenage wannabe marauders. He was definitely going to get fired.
