━ are you, a dream or an illusion? ━ late july 2026
THE LAST FEW MONTHS HAD been overly chaotic for Bryelle and even everyone amongst her. Her brothers wedding to that god awful witch Ondina, preparations for her final NEWTs, the fall of Hogwarts and more recently: her own eighteenth birthday. While the youngest Goyle knew she could eventually get over Ondina becoming a Goyle herself, and the betrayal from her brother now that she would actually have to live with her parents - and not beg to stay in his apartment most times - the fall of Hogwarts had somewhat of a larger impact.
It caused such sudden changes for everyone and anyone, but Bryelle felt the students were affected the most. With a small amount of bias added, of course. Considering summer break was only around the corner, it resulted with the Goyle taking her final exams at the Ministry. Despite the fact she passed with flying colours, the fact didn't prove to be useful to her parents. Of course she was rewarded with a congratulations from her brother, the only kind of reassurance she truthfully needed. The result of her sudden hard work also guaranteed her place in the Ministry as a Hit-Witch in training.
In Bryelle's own attempt of getting out to find a place for herself, she tricked convinced her parents into allowing her to have access to whatever savings they conjured for her. The brunette didn't figure it would be much, considering the jobs her two parents had, but the surprise was there once she discovered it. There was enough for an incredibly tiny room but the Goyle knew she didn't do well with confined spaces. So she promised herself by late September she would have a decently sized place herself.
Now that she was eighteen and actually had a decent job lined up for her as the months continued on, Bryelle thought she would spend a day with Renard, and somewhat finally reveal her plans now she had graduated from Hogwarts. For the longest, Bryelle felt this moment was one that she truly never wanted to face, in fear that her brother would hate her choices or criticise her until she changed her mind. Although, the brunette felt like she hand't seen her brother since his wedding - which was ironic in itself.
Waltzing up to his door, Bryelle knocked gently, hoping that Ondina or some random maid that she knew Ondina was bound to hire wouldn't answer.

▲ Married life wasn’t horrid, except for the fact that it was to Ondina. That fact hadn’t changed the weird relationship they already had with one another prior to the papers being signed. The best times were when he forgot she existed, which usually only happened when he was at work or she was off doing whatever it was that she did in her spare time. She’d been odd since the spring time and the destruction of Hogwarts, but who hadn’t? Everything upended just like that. Even he was disturbed by it. Shocked that it happened? Not really. But disturbed that idiots like the Purifiers thought the best course of action was to light a bunch of kids on fire. Murder solved very little in that regard, and killing children only enraged everyone. Had they succeeded in their plot maybe things would have gone differently. But that was neither here nor there, because they were finished. Now it was time for things to go back to the way they had been before, or at least as close to that as possible. Seeing his sister taking her final exams within the Ministry was certainly different. Bryelle had finished exceptionally though, and was working in the hit department. He would have preferred that she did something else, though according to contacts he had there, it seemed to fit her well enough. That career path had never scratched the itch he was looking for in life. But that was why they were different. Today, Bryelle was supposed to be stopping by. They hadn’t really seen each other over the past few months and he was unsure if that was because of work obligations for both of them or because his wife scared the ever living daylights out of most people. Maybe it was a bit of both. Ondina was out for the day though, doing Merlin knew what, and the knock on the door told him that his sister had arrived. Setting down the latest copy of Witch Weekly that had started being delivered to his postbox a few months ago (and probably Ondina’s doing), he crossed his flat and opened the door. “Hey Breeny. She’s not here, if you want to come in for a bit before we leave,” he explained as he stepped to the side to let his sister enter if she wanted to. The only permanent change that had happened to his abode since the arrival of Ondina was the removal of his cat. If he ever felt like having his wife die unexpectedly though, he knew exactly what to reintroduce into their lives… MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

━ are you, a dream or an illusion? ━ AS THE DOOR OPENED, REVEALING her brother, the tight feeling in Bryelle's chest relieved itself. "Okay, great." She replied, knowing that she didn't even need to bring up the devil that was Ondina herself before stepping inside. It felt awkward, seeing all the changes to the flat, especially since the last time Bryelle had been round, Ondina wasn't living here and the cat that Renard once had would have been greeting her by the door. "You know, you should've let me take care of Baron. Especially since I'm moving out soon." She mentioned as she turned slightly to Renard.
Crossing the flat over to the couch, Bryelle took a seat, being careful still and ensured she didn't leave any sort of mess. She felt that Ondina was that kind of wife, the type to pick upon the smallest things, like a hair dropping from the younger Goyle's head or something. But since she wasn't at home, the brunette felt slightly more relaxed. "Is she...Working?" The Gryffindor alum knew that Ondina worked within the International Magical office of Law within the Ministry, but even the name of the position itself seemed boring.

▲ “Sorry,” he responded immediately. Baron had gone to a good home, but he was sure if he asked he could get him back for his sister. Ultimately that would have been a better choice. “She moved in so fast. I had to get him out.” Otherwise Baron would be dead. That was absolutely how that would have went too. Not to say that would have had him backing out of the engagement completely, because he didn’t want his cat dead, but that would have been the final straw. This whole thing was fucked up so he disliked playing what-ifs these days. They only made him realize how stupid he had been. “I can ask to get him back for you? I don’t think they’ll mind too much,” Renard added as they started heading back towards the living room. He honestly didn’t know if Ondina worked at all during the day or if she simply criticized and scoffed at people behind her plastic. It was a great question on Bryelle’s part though. “That or shopping. She thinks she has all of my money,” Renard rolled his eyes. Fat chance. There was still a muggle account he kept secret that no one but him knew about, as well as his half of the Goyle inheritance whenever that came due. What she did with the miniscule amount he kept in the account she was currently ‘playing’ with didn’t bother him at all. That all used to be pissed away at the casino three nights a week. Eventually she would get bored of shopping. Or run out of space. “How’s training going so far?” he asked as he took a seat next to her. Usually that would have invited Baron over as well, but not anymore. “I haven’t been in the office a lot lately, so stopping by to check in has been difficult.” A group of pogrebins had been unleashed through a series of buildings in Knockturn Alley, and he had been picking away at them for going on two weeks now. How anyone there realized they were more depressed than usual was beyond him. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

━ are you, a dream or an illusion? ━ AT HER BROTHER'S ANSWER, BRYELLE'S smile dropped a little. "How could someone hate animals that much.." She muttered to herself as she got more comfortable, playing with a few stray threads on her shirt. As her brother walked towards the living room, mentioning how he could ask for Baron back, Bryelle's eyes lit up while she turned to face him, her arms resting against the back of the couch. "Are you sure it'll be fine?..By September I should have a place..And I'm pretty sure the building owners allow pets too!" While Baron had been Renard's childhood pet, Bryelle always loved giving the cat a quick cuddle here and there.
As Renard rolled his eyes, the younger Goyle snorted, turning back to have a brief overview of Renard's now shared home, and all the differences that had happened since she lasted visited. "You actually share an account with her?" She asked, scoffing at the thought of doing so with her future partner. "I'd rather die than share anything of mine..Like that anyway..With someone like her.." It was no secret that Bryelle wasn't...fond of Ondina. But then again, most people weren't fond of the Weasley anyway.
"Tiring." Bryelle responded honestly to her brother's question, the corners of her lips perking up into a small smile. "It's fine, you don't always have to check up on me..But the thought counts." She added, smiling over at her brother. "It's funny, since..I had no intention of doing something like that in the Ministry...Let alone go through any kind of intense training...But here we are."
Bryelle sighed then, knowing it wasn't the easiest conversation she had with her brother when the younger Goyle initially prepared for her graduation, but considering he didn't seem to mind her career choices, it was relieving in the end. Their parents on the other hand...Were of course quick to reject her choices, claiming she should've picked an 'office-like job' like her brother.

▲ The best case scenario for his cat had always been for him to end up with Bryelle. Leaving him to live at his parents for the months between Ondina moving in and when his sister moved out wasn’t something he wanted for the animal. While his wife would outright make the Baron disappear, his parents would forget to feed and take care of him. Going from an almost secluded life with Renard in his flat to that would be too much for the cat to handle. “Yeah, absolutely. I sort of brought that up as a possibility already, so it shouldn’t be an issue at all to move him to your place.” It was still his cat after all, they were simply taking care of him until Renard came up with a better option. Bryelle was that better option. And then he could stop by every now and then to visit, as long as the cat hair didn’t make it back to his flat. Then his own sister would be investigating a murder, whether his own at Ondina’s hands or his wife’s, from death by cat allergy. “Partially. There were agreed upon terms for everything. As much as it seems like I walked into this blindly, I’ve done the absolute most I can to protect my long term assets when everything goes belly-up with her.” Because it would. Which is exactly why he went through Blishwick. Inheritance aside, Ondina didn’t need one-hundred percent access to all of his accounts. Such a thing was inconceivable. There were contingencies in place if he went missing or ended up prematurely dead, and they were in places and with people that wouldn’t be swayed by his wife’s ‘pleas’, should such a thing like that occur to him. Out of everything that had happened thus far since he was unfortunate enough to sign the engagement paperwork, this was easily the bit where he knew he had the upper hand over her. He understood money and assets incredibly well, and she wasn’t taking any of it from him. He had heard law enforcement training was a different kind of beast compared to most of the internships within the Ministry. And that was usually for the Aurors. The Hit department was completely different, and he knew even less about that. They didn’t just let anyone into that program though, and he couldn’t help but feel proud that Bryelle had made it in. “I don’t want to say it’ll be worth it once you finish and get an assignment, but I’m sure it will be. Learning on the job is so much more fulfilling than having everything told to you in a class or training program.”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

━ are you, a dream or an illusion? ━ AT HER BROTHER'S RESPONSE, BRYELLE couldn't help but happily grin. Finally! Another pet of 'her own' that she could actually take care of without the immense amount of pressure and eventual forgetfulness from her parents. While the Gryffindor alum also had a cat in her younger years, because of her family's forgetfulness to feed the children's pets when they weren't around - with the excuse being 'busy because of work' no doubt - it was only fate that Bryelle's small kitten would get up and run away. The timing of it all was horrid as well, as the younger Goyle at the time literally received her letter to Hogwarts weeks after, which would've been the perfect opportunity to take care of her pet herself. It didn't matter so much now though, considering the person Bryelle had grown up to become, but she could definitely see herself becoming an intriguing Mother to various cats. Oddly enough.
"Perfect." She replied, satisfied with at least one thing today. "I say by September I should have a place but I kind of didn't anticipate rent for a single tenant to be so high..So I kind of have by the end of the year as a more realistic goal.." That and well. The Goyle simply couldn't stand listening to her parents nonsense for a moment longer, especially since she was undergoing Hit-Witch training instead of taking up a typical office job. Of course, there was nothing wrong with the latter, but it simply wasn't for Bryelle. And that was something her parents couldn't clearly understand.
"Terms?.." Bryelle questioned, trailing off with a quiet scoff. "I still ask myself almost everyday..Why her out of all people..Especially since you tend to absolutely hate everyone you meet." Plus Ondina wasn't entirely the friendly type either. Bryelle always imagined her brother settling down with a woman that could soften his emotionless-self, make him warm up to actually being nice to others. Yet she also couldn't see that ever happening. "But I trust you've covered yourself with everything anyway..Especially if this ends terribly.."
Renard was more of a father-figure growing up compared to their own father. She knew he wasn't stupid especially when money and assets were involved. It was something he would always scold her for, especially if she wanted something that Bryelle was bound to grow out of interest for in just a few months. "Yeah..I guess so." Training was of course, incredibly tedious and sometimes made the Goyle reconsider her choices, but Renard was right in some sense. The training was there to help her get assigned in the near future, and it was better than being stuck behind a computer, learning everything she needed to know instead of actively learning. "It's just how many more early mornings can I endure?" Bryelle was far from a morning person, and was instead the worst person to speak to so early in the mornings but she was surviving at least.

▲ He’d forgotten how difficult it could be right out of school in finding a flat that could be paid for on internship level wages. There were two things he absolutely never wanted to do, especially right after graduating from Hogwarts: asking his parents for inheritance money that he wanted to properly invest as a living expense, and living at home. Granted, he had gotten lucky with the latter and that was the only reason he lived in such a ridiculous looking building now. He was barely home as it was, and living lavishly was more to show off every now and then. With Ondina here now…well it was probably for the best that he stayed where he was. The sterile atmosphere suited her, unfortunately, and the only way he’d ever escape this apartment and into something smaller was if he divorced her. And he still wanted to make sure that the legal documents would protect his assets should that happen. “Terms,” he repeated. “Prenuptials, a lock-tight will and a living will should I suddenly become incapacitated by an unknown poisoned potion, spell, or beast, and other legal agreements that safeguard my assets should something horrid befall me.” It was scary how matter-of-fact he had become about the situation. Unfortunately it was too late to back out now, despite an annulment being fairly easy to get if he so desired. He almost wanted Ondina to grow bored of him and move on to new prey. This was his punishment for groveling to her. “Societal pressure is a horrible thing, let’s put it that way,” Renard added before it seemed like the conversation was shifting away. “Wait until they put you on night shifts,” he chuckled. Hunting down boggarts suddenly found in bedside drawers at two in the morning was simultaneously entertaining and horrifying. Sleep deprivation and shape-shifting creatures was not a great combination. “All the weird stuff happens in the early hours, without fail. I still get put on that schedule because they occasionally mistake me for a vampire.”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

━ are you, a dream or an illusion? ━ WHILE BRYELLE'S GOAL SEEMED...OUTLANDISH, as long as the Goyle saved whatever money she could cough up from her parents, as well as whatever savings they held in the bank for her - she knew anything was possible. Ideally, the Gryffindor alum wanted to live on her lonesome, but if push came to shove, she would eventually ask a friend or someone else to live alongside her, just to reduce the cost of rent and all. She always had a plan, even when she didn't.
As Renard repeated, before going on about the safety measures he had in place...against his own wife...Bryelle couldn't help but let her eyes widen and her mouth hang a little. "Why..do you have..so many measures in place?" Truthfully, the younger Goyle knew the answer to it. The two probably couldn't stand one another and got married for whatever benefits Bryelle was too young to understand. That or Ondina must of had some dirt against her older brother for something. "Societal pressure..made you marry her?"
Bryelle groaned then, knowing that she would hate a night shift more than an early morning one. "I'd honestly rather cry." She admitted, knowing night shifts meant she would have more hands-on training compared to the training she would have in the early mornings. "You? A vampire? I could imagine you as so many more things except from that." She laughed as she admitted.

▲ Societal pressure…yup it was definitely that. Maybe not so much society itself, per se, but the will of their parents had been weighing down on him for quite a while prior to foolishly jumping headfirst into this arrangement. Renard had seen it as a way to allow Bryelle to do what she wanted instead of being forced to capitulate like he had. Could he have chosen a better spouse than Ondina? Absolutely. But he also had a horrible disposition and didn’t believe he deserved any better. Somehow, through all of this, he saved some poor bloke from suffering from at Ondina’s hands in the same way that he knew he eventually would. That never meant she wouldn’t move on to someone else after she finished with him, as she was a predator to the core. “Because I have too. I imagine you will too, someday, as it’s the best way to protect your inheritance and any other assets you may accrue over the next few years.” He would have been better off making an Unbreakable Vow with his dearly beloved, that way if he croaked from breaking it, so would she. In all honesty, it could be worse than it was. Ondina was only horrible ninety percent of the time. And the silence when she wasn’t around was blissful. “It’s part of the job, unfortunately,” Renard shrugged. She would get used to it. Everyone he knew that took up similar careers that had night shifts always did. “Do normal people have bags under their eyes like this?” he asked his sister earnestly. It had always been like that, ever since his school days. A pale, gaunt appearance with a proclivity for late night activities had bought him several rumors concerning his humanity. The truth was that he had a horrid gambling addiction and liked to stay at the casino drinking until almost sun up. He yawned automatically at the thought of not getting enough sleep. “I could use some coffee. I’ve had enough of the swill here. It tastes burnt after a while.” He motioned towards his muggle coffee maker. It was great in theory, but had a plastic after taste that for some reason, liked to stick around long after he had finished it. Flicking his wand at his coatrack, one of his lighter overcoats flew over to him and slid itself on with little effort. He had practiced that until he perfected it. “On me, of course,” Renard added as he headed towards the door. “Maybe we’ll go to that bakery in Horizont. I quite like the pastries they have there…” A mindless thought, but it would be a good segue into better conversation between the two of them. He was done with discussing Ondina and his relationship issues for the day. [Renard End] MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0
