PERSONALITY Renard is a class-A Asshole. The A is always capitalized. He realized at an extremely young age that his parents were neither the brightest bulbs nor sharpest tools in the shed when it came to anything, so he rides off the high of his surname: Goyle. At one point it meant something, though his father and grandfather seemed to have tarnished the name during their time. He is a determined individual, intent on not only proving that he isn’t his parents, but also that he will be better than the majority of the magical community. Being placed in Ravenclaw and coming from a long lineage of Slytherins didn’t help him at all. Renard likes to believe that he has the best of both worlds: the cunning and ambition of a snake, and the intelligence and integrity of a raven. Having been a Ravenclaw, his lust for knowledge was replaced with a need for power once he graduated. He’s not afraid of the views he takes concerning half-breeds and demi-humans; they are merely a muddying of magical potential, the same as his dear mother did to him. Luckily he turned out alright. Outside of work, Renard is quite the suave gentleman. He doesn’t have a problem with telling people what they want to hear, even if it goes against what he would prefer to have them do – manipulation and games could always come later. Money, intellect, and a high-quality lifestyle aid him in this, preferring to live lavishly to assert his dominance as an important member in society. Having complete control over a situation goes hand in hand with this part of his personality. Everything is an upwards climb for him, and tossing others aside or under the bus is not beyond him if it means he’ll benefit from it in the end. The goal is to hopefully reclaim some of the glory associated with the family name, and if not, start something new for it. Friendships are conducted like business: those that benefit him stay, those that don’t, disappear. ORIGIN & RELATIONS London, England Gregory Goyle - father, janitor in the Magical Maintenance Department Millicent Goyle (nee Bulstrode) - mother, Security Troll trainer bryelle rose goyle – younger sister, Hit-Witch Trainee, b. 2008 Ondina Nell Weasley - wife, International Magical Office of Law, b. 2006 Baron Bartholomew - black cat, currently rehomed with an associate to avoid imminent death at the hands of Ondina HISTORY Where to start…the fact that Gregory Goyle and Millicent Bullstrode decided to reproduce should have been considered an enormous mistake – two brutish characters in a story that they never belonged in, bringing a new life into the world would have been horrifying had it been anyone other than Renard (and much later, his younger sister). The Goyles were an atrocity of inordinate proportions. Their status as a pureblood family: gone. Their money and political standing: gone. Their integrity: gone. Renard was truly brought into the world by a couple of losers with little to no aspirations in life. Surely the son of a janitor and security troll trainer (who many had difficulty telling between trainer and trainee) wouldn’t amount to much, would he? Wrong. Young Goyle was far more advanced in his infantile stages than either of his parents had been at the peak of their educations. His inquisitive nature meant that he was left to decide what he wanted to learn prior to entering school, since his parents had little to no knowledge on how to raise a child. They were more concerned with mopping up Ministry messes and teaching trolls how to not pluck off customer’s limbs. Renard ended up aiding his sister, who was born five years after him, learn how to read and write when their parents had failed to do so. Their childhood should have been considered abysmal by most standards, but having the freedom to do what he wanted, and say whatever came to his mind without consequence was only the start of who he was to become. While school couldn’t have come soon enough, as was the way with most young witches and wizards, Renard needed Hogwarts as much as it needed him. He was swiftly sorted into Ravenclaw, much to his parents detest, but that didn’t matter to him at all. Grilling other students on their knowledge of magic was more of his shtick in his first few years at school. Learning about anything and everything allowed him to form a world view that was mostly skewed in favor of his ideals, even if classmates presented other ideas. He learned that the confident had power, and the powerful had control over everything. That sounded wonderful to him. The last few years at Hogwarts were spent learning about magical law and what could potentially lead him in a spiral of upwards progression, hopefully to reclaim the family name as well as show that he wasn’t a failure like his parents. Along the way, he grew to have an intense distaste for international laws concerning half-breeds; werewolves, vampires, the whole works. The integration into magical society for them was a huge problem with him. Pretending like werewolves and vampires had never caused problems for normal humans and playing nice didn’t make sense. By normalizing, and even legalizing the turning of regular humans into beasts, magical blood was being tainted and children were placed in harms while whilst at Hogwarts. His platform in the final years of school shifted towards looking at legislation that would place more restrictions and safeguards on half-breed community members to prevent them from getting out of hand or growing in numbers beyond Ministry control. Upon graduation, Renard went straight into the Ministry to work in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, Beast Division. That was a position with real power. The slightest infractions by the creatures (or humans) meant he had the ability to bring down the hammer of law – something he had been looking forward to for years. His training period brought on a kind of enlightenment he had never had before; concerning the laws on magical beasts and their place in the grand scheme of things. He had always assumed that the most trouble would be caused by those that skirted two categorizations: beast and human. He was wrong, of course, and after being in the Ministry for a few years, it was quite apparent that things weren’t as great as they were being made out to be. Hogwarts was a mess. Kidnappings, killings, the public integration of werewolf and vampire children – opening up the school to an assortment of nastiness and legal consequences should things go more awry than they already were. Renard didn’t really care much about the muggleborn killings. He was prepared to go back into the school and extract the half-breed students should they do anything wrong. Unfortunately they didn’t, and the blood purist group, reminiscent of the stories his father used to tell him about his time in school, decided they had more up their sleeves. Explosions at King’s Cross. Explosions following the end of the Triwizard Tournament. All the fun stuff. He was happy he wasn’t in one of the divisions that had to clean up those messes. The introduction of a werewolf as a Triwizard champion was more up his alley, and keeping a watchful eye on the Durmstrang student’s movements while at Hogwarts was more appropriate. Once again, Renard felt that the Beast Division got luckily with the explosions that killed the majority of the Beauxbatons and Durmstrang students. Tied up a lot of international loose ends and potentially undocumented beasts. And Harry Potter going missing? Good riddance. At least it took the newspapers off of all the dead kids for the first time in a few months. Holidays 2024. The Goyles have been pressuring Renard for a while now that he needs to find a potential wife. Settle down. Get married. Have kids. He has no idea how his parents have the intellect to process complex thoughts past what they’re having for dinner every night, but they backed him into a corner this time. So Renard made a mistake: he asked Ondina Weasley to enter into a fake engagement with him. It seemed all well and great at first, but his parents wanted official dates for the wedding. See, it needed to be soon, not later. So Renard made another mistake: he and Ondina went and signed engagement paperwork at Blishwick Matchmaking, thus making the whole thing real. Ondina has since moved into his flat (and thankfully Renard moved his cat out first), and it seems like they’re going to go through with the wedding after all. Something about karma, and how he deserves this. While a lot of different things have been occurring in the world, most haven’t really affected Renard too much. The only big ordeal was in October 2025 when the druidic home island of Hy-Brasil lost its magical barrier and a large portion of their creatures escaped. Per his job, he was sent to the island to investigate and mark down what exactly got away from the island. Since then, he has had to make frequent trips back to the island in order to update lists and see what the current situation is on the ground. OOC
