Once upon a time, Heleen had been a rather hopeless romantic. After several failed romances and seeing how her brother and his destined love were? She was overjoyed for them, and half convinced it just wasn't in the cards for her. It'd simply be her and Spock then. At least she didn't have to worry about her secrets at home.
Still, after a long dat at work she'd headed off to a nearby coffee place for a drink or two, the thousand swirling words and notes in her notebook reading rather easily. She'd found a fun trick, having drenched her notebook in ink, having let it dry and then made notes on her abilities in enchanted ink, so only she could read them. It was fun.
Currently she was just waiting for the person she'd agreed to have a coffee with, already having her own cup. With a bit of luck that meant it was going to be a good afternoon.
((Open to anybody. Could be a friend or coworker, could be a blind date even. Whatever works! Thanks to whomever joins (: ))

Mac wasn't sure why he had agreed to go on this date, but here he was on his way. He was told the woman was smart, fierce and kind - all things that were obviously very admirable. Still, Mac was so nervous he almost turned around more than once.
It was hard enough for his friend to convince him to go on the date anyway, seeing as Mac didn't... really date. He was terrified of being emotionally connected to anyone. Not because he didn't want it, he really - really - did, but he was afraid that his baggage would eventually explode everywhere and the person would feel like they had to pick up the pieces.
"Mac, that's why you're in therapy. It's good for you to try new things," he said to himself out loud as he turned the corner and saw the coffee shop door up ahead. It was just coffee, it would be fun! He liked fun, right?
He walked in and looked around, finally catching sight of her, Heleen, based on the description given to him. He shrugged off his coat, folded it, and hung it over his arm before walking over to her. "Heleen? Hi, Mac. I'm Mac," he introduced, smiling.

A blind date. Heleen wasn't even fully sure why she'd agreed to it, as she seemed to have the worst possible luck when it came to romance. Did this mean she was truly desperate for connection now? Or highly envious of her brothers connection? She wasn't fully sure, but she was fine with it either way. If this was a total disaster she could always consider cats, right?
As the guy approached her she gave him a warm smile, hoping that he wouldn't run off within the first ten minutes. That was a good aim, right? How silly really, to worry this much about it. Maybe they could end up good friends if the entire dating thing didn't work out, who knew?
"Hi! Nice to meet you Mac." She said with a bright smile as she gestured towards the empty seat. "Did you order something to drink yet? I already have a coffee but I'd rather wait with drinking it until you also have something." She said as she closed the notebook she'd been writing in to keep herself busy a moment and stuffed it back into her bag. Just something to keep busy, after all.

Her warm smile was exactly what he needed to realize that they were both in the same situation. Both set up. Neither one had a one up on each other or anything. This was a level playing field. She greeted him and asked if he ordered a drink yet, suggesting he get one so she could work on hers. "I'll go get one. It's nice to meet you," he smiled. He set his coat over the back of the chair across from hers and went up to order a drink.
Chai. Tall. Oat milk.
He sprinkled some additional cinnamon on it and moved back to sit across from her. "So, what did you get? I'm happy to get the next one, if you need more," he suggested. "Chai Latte for me, most days,"he explained, holding his mug up for a moment before taking a sip.
