PERSONALITY Janie, although friendly, is pretty standoffish when it comes to people that aren't in her circle. She has her close knit friends, and she prefers to keep it that way. New people aren't her thing, not really. Loyal to a fault, once you are in her circle, you are part of her in a huge way and she will remain loyal to you no atter what. Something awful would have to happen in order for her to break that bond. A lot of her loyal personality comes from the fact that she was raised to be loyal to her family. To the Clarke legacy, family comes before everything. Janie is no exception to the rule. It is expected that her family comes first in all matters, and she has been deeply conditioned to believe this. Janie's only escape from her high profile, political family is her painting. She is a talented artist, and most people are surprised when they find out the 'it' girl even has one other than her natural flair. Painting on stormy nights are her favorite, and she is often found in the clock tower during a good thunderstorm with her canvas lost in her own artwork. Another passion she has, contrary to popular belief, is her studies. She loves to learn and read. Which is why it was a shock to her parents when she wasn't sorted into Ravenclaw. Truth be told, her personality was a fit for each of the four houses. She is brave, ambitious, and studious. But what landed her into Hufflepuff was her undeniable and unending loyalty. HISTORY The Clarke family dates back centuries. A well known name in the Wizarding and Political world, the name Clarke is indistinguishable. Not only for the size of their legacy, but their role in the politics and formation of modern laws in the wizarding world, including a large role in the establishment of the Statue of Secrecy. A bloodline as pure as snow, the Clarkes are untouched by muggle blood and creature abilities. Not a vampire, seer, or werewolf among them and they are extremely proud of that fact. The blood purist agenda runs through the veins of this family. Talk of equality and mixing the blood line is strictly prohibited and often times those who try to change their way of thinking mysteriously vanish, or they are suddenly 'mad' and locked away in the Psychiatric facilities in St.Mungo's. Going against the views of the family is just not done. Even now in the modern era they are extremely Aristocratic and even as far as an underground secret society of blood purist, elite families. They do not consider themselves to be radical, like Death Eaters, and prefer to handle their affairs more politically and graceful. Scandals aren't tolerated by any means and will be dealt with harshly. Even for the younger generations. Janie Lyra Clarke was born in the fall of 2011. The older of two middle children, she was raised in a large family. It was easy to get lost in the shuffle unless you made a bold statement and demanded your presence be acknowledged. Lucky for Janie, she learned from her older sister how to make a stand. Eudora was the crown jewel of the great-grandchildren, so naturally Janie decided to mimic her every move in an effort to stand out with the family. She hated being outshined by Eudora, but unfortunately there wasn't enough gold in the world to outshine her. So Janie took to being the 'brat' of the family. Even though her parents and grandparents were the most important things in her life, she couldn't help but act out when she wasn't getting the attention she wanted. But instead of being named the crowned jewel, she was named the crowned annoyance. Regardless, she kept her face and continued acting up for attention. All of the Clarke children were gifted their magical abilities in timely manners, but Janie showed her signs at the early age of two. The nannies were absolutely bewildered as her siblings didn't show signs until almost seven. Janie always did like to do things her own way, even as an infant. At eleven, she got her Hogwarts letter and was overjoyed when she was sorted into Hufflepuff. Being from a family of Slytherins and Ravenclaws, being different was something she prided herself on, even if it was for selfish reasons. Janie loved Hogwarts. She loved being in the castle, away from her family and making a name for herself. Only, the name she wanted to make was always compared to Eudora's. Eudora had been the queen bee, the bees knees, whatever you wanted to call her. And not only did the younger students remember her vividly, but so did the professors. They expected Janie to be just as dimwitted as Eudora was. All her elder sister cared about was parties and saving face. Her mothers training was 'your name and your face is what will make or break you'. Eudora took that to heart and became an aristocratic clone of Carine. The perfect hair, make up and full of grace. Whereas Janie was extremely scholarly and a closet klutz. As much as she tried to carry herself gracefully, she was constantly tripping and bumping into things and always covered in bruises from her accidents. Unfortunately the year she began Hogwarts, was the year that things started to take a dark turn for the Wizarding world. The goal of every patriarch of the Clarke family has been to become the Minister of Magic. So when Kingsley Shacklebolt met his untimely death, Bartholomew attempted to step in but was quickly denied the position and it was given to Cain Reynolds. A humiliating defeat that led Bartholomew to pine in silence and plan for a way to gain the seat of power in the Ministry. Enraged, Bartholomew turned to a new regime, the Purifiers. It didn't take much convincing for the Clarke family to chose what side of the coin they would merge with. Given their influence over the wizarding world, the merger was easy. Bartholomew aided in the kidnapping of several students from Hogwarts, although none of them ever died under his watch. Murder was dirty business, and the Clarke's liked to keep their hands as clean as possible. While he never caused any of the explosions or kidnappings, a lot of the ideas were aided by his influence. Physically, his hands were clean. But otherwise, he was just as guilty as anyone of the Purifiers. When the transition of power was once again up for grabs, his attempts were once again denied when the muggleborn Weasley took office ahead of him. His rage only grew and his determination fierce. One of the only times where his hands stained red, was when the attack on the carriage took place resulting in the murder of several students. He was there when it happened, lingering in the shadows to make sure all went according to plan. The smile he wore was menacing and evil. His wife began to grow concerned at his rage. At one point she considered divorce. The death of children was sickening to her. However, the family patriarch threatened to have her committed should she try and leave her husband and tarnish the family reputation. Tragedy struck when Hag's fever swept across the country. The family matriarch, Eduora Clarke, died suddenly at the onset of the fever. She was already struggling to stay afloat with her age and her body just couldn't handle the sickness. Once again, Bartholomew's rage grew. Whispers were even flying that he was drinking, which aided in his poor decision making. It wasn't until the death of Minister Granger came around that his grandfather put a stop to the madness. It had gone too far and he was worried the family would come under fire should he get caught being involved in the murders and attacks. Janie was oblivious to just how much a major role her father played in the attacks, at least until she was fifteen years old. Her father didn't like the idea of being away from the action and cause that he was so deeply rooted in. Deciding that he was tired of taking the back seat, Bartholomew and several other members of the Purifiers decided to take drastic measures. They infiltrated the castle through the chamber of secrets. What he didn't know was that Janie (who was supposed to be in Hogsmeade with her sister and mother), was at Hogwarts with her boyfriend. When the fires were set, Janie and her boyfriend were trapped in the girls lavatory on the fourth floor corridor. If it weren't for her boyfriend, she would've died. Instead, she was rescued with severe injuries and smoke inhalation as well as left with the scar that spans from her inner collar bone and wraps around to the back of her shoulder blade. It was at that point that Carine and patriarch Bartholomew committed her father for nearly two years before allowing him to return home 'reformed'. Janie almost didn't recover and technically had died for two minutes before they were able to bring her back. During the year that the repairs were ongoing at Hogwarts, Janie was homeschooled. Mainly to hide her away from the world to keep her family from looking bad. She slipped into a terrible depression for a long time. Now she is in her sixth year, and pressure is on from her family to start thinking about her future in politics, marriage, and having kids. Eudora was already engaged and planning a wedding to a public figure in the Ministry. What will Janie do? Will she try and break free from her family bonds, or will she fall in line like her sister?
