Okay, Sophia was convinced. Someone had put a hex on her without her knowing it. A hex that caused bad luck. The past few days she'd just been plagued with accidents. Most recently? Well, the girl had just managed to spill her bottle of ink across her entire essay. She was on the final draft, just reviewing it to ensure everything was the way she wanted when something possessed her to try an experiment she'd been working on. Don't ask why she chose right then to try and charm the ink. It was a terrible idea... What had possessed her?
She sat there, alone, staring down at the completely ruined parchment. Thankfully, no one had seen the epic failure, the Hufflepuff common room completely abandoned. Finally she sighed, running her fingers through her long dark hair. What was she supposed to do now? Surely there was a spell to reverse this disaster... right? If only she could remember one... Casting had never been her strength. She'd managed to make her O.W.L.S. in Charms and Transfigurations, but only due to hundreds of grueling hours studying... and even then, she'd barely managed to pull off a passing grade! Maybe Leo or Zander would know? She lifted her gaze, scanning the room. Speaking of the two.. Where were they? She hadn't seen her two friends since lunch. She felt bad, to be honest. She was constantly running to the two Seventh years for these sorts of things... It only made her feel like the baby of the three... Which she was, to be honest! No, she needed to solve this problem on her own. She had to!
Yanking her charms book out of her bag, she started scanning the pages, searching desperately for a solution. Each page made her heart sink even lower. She didn't make it through the whole book before she tossed it on the table, moving to get up... Only to have the nonexistent Bad Luck hex strike again. Her foot caught on the chair leg, sending it and her tumbling over sideways with a loud WHACK. All just in time for Sophia to see a pair of feet... She didn't need to look up to know who it was, either. Her heart sank even more as her face slowly turned red. It was Masin...

Awe, a lovely afternoon.
Masin was completely caught up on her homework, her studying and her quidditch rounds for the day. She was an overachiever, to say the least. She had just walked into the common room when someone tumbled to the ground right in front of her, a chair broken beneath the girl. Masin felt her eyes widen, her eyebrows raise and a small purse of the lips don her face. She leaned down toward the girl, smiling as she saw the sweet and innocent face of Sophia Williams. "Well, you seem to be having quite a day," Masin started. Instead of reaching a hand out to help her up, Masin simply waved her wand and the girl was lifted to her feet by a soft wind like substance.
"Breaking chairs, tsk tsk," Masin went on, pocketing her wand and reaching toward the younger girl, straightening her tie, brushing off her shoulders, tucking her hair behind her ears, "how clumsy of you. Did you try crossing your ankles again the way I taught you? I warned you it would be dangerous," a Hufflepuff bully was a rare thing to find, but it wasn't completely unheard of. Masin was a perfect example of that.

It wasn't that someone had hexed Sophia with bad luck, it was because Masin was coming....
Fate had decided from day one that Masin and Sophia couldn't get along. So, it seemed like every time Masin was around, Sophia just made an idiot of herself. And the harder she tried to change Masin's opinion? The worst it got. If anyone else had walked in at that moment, they probably would have laughed it off, and Sophia could get back to her business. That wasn't happening with Masin though.
"... Good afternoon, DeLisle." Sophia politely greeted as she started to get up, trying to change the subject from her blunder as quickly as possible. Her beat red face was a clear indication of her embarrassment. Masin beat her to it, a quick wave of her wand and Sophia's feet returned to their rightful place on the ground.. And then proceeded to set her appearance back in order. Sophia froze, not daring to move, while trying to force her expression to go stoic as Masin continued to speak. She finally let out a soft breath, the same breath she'd been holding. Her face hadn't completely turned to normal, but it was definitely on the rebound. "I'll fix it." The girl finally said, choosing to act as if she hadn't heard that last comment, though a little of that blush had returned for a moment.

Ah, the use of the last name. Masin decided to take it as a form of respect, rather that the cold way that polite little voice probably meant it. "I'll fix it," she said, and Masin took a step back, pocketing her wand and folding her arms. "Then by all means, Soph," she lifted a hand out of the fold in order to gesture to the broken chair beside them.
Masin didn't consider herself a bully, but rather, someone who was just trying to improve others lives by showing them their insecurities. It seemed like the right thing to do, to her, to help people better themselves in that way.

Sophia hadn't used Masin's last name as a heartlessly as most people. Honestly, Sophia felt it was... inappropriate to use Masin's first name around her. They weren't friends. While Sophia had always tried to change Masin's perspective of her, Masin had always made her feelings clear. And using her first name seemed far to... familiar to risk using.
The 6th year cheeks turned a soft pink at Masin's words, the slightly older girl making no motion to leave. Oh, everyone knew Sophia's 'wand waving' abilities were barely passable. She could do it, of course, but it just didn't come naturally. And having Masin practically demanding she prove her abilities? It just made the girl even more nervous. After another deep breath, the color started to fade, Sophia forcing her expression to go stoic once more. She couldn't be nervous. Not now. "Fine." she finally muttered, barely managing to raise her voice above a whisper.
Sophia cautiously pulled her wand from her robes, turning it over in her hand a moment as she shot Masin another look, as if hoping the girl would have looked away. She hadn't. Sophia's gaze quickly shot back to the chair. She took another deep breath. With a sharp flick of her wrist and a soft whisper of the spell, the chair slowly began to piece itself back together. The broken legs reattached themselves, leaving no sign of the break. As a sixth year, she was learning to master nonverbal magic, but that was a completely different story, and she'd made little progress in the area. Pocketing her wand, she quickly stepped forward, grabbing the back of the chair and lifting it back up to its freshly repaired legs. Again she looked towards Masin, an eyebrow slightly raised in a questioning way, as if asking if that was adequate.

Masin stood there, immovable as Sophia performed the task. She waited, arms folded, as the chair pieced itself back together. As Sophia turned back to her with a slight raise of the brow, Masin side, giving a nod. "What, do you want a medal or something?" she said, a small smirk landing on her lips and a chuckle escaping her smile. She took a few steps forward, lifting a leg to place her foot on top of the chair. It didn't fall apart underneath her, so that was a good sign. Sophia was improving, and Masin was sure part of that was due to the fact that Masin would push her so hard when the occasion arose. Masin removed her foot from the chair, turning back to Sophia with her dazzling smile.
"So, what were you working on before it got inked?" Masin commented, reaching down to pick up an inked blotted page that had fallen beside Sophias chair. Masin hadn't ever done a thing like that, of course not, but she had seen people she cared about ruin their own homework that way and it wasn't a good thing. She was sure reporters probably came up with a spell for fixing that sort of thing, but if they had Masin hadn't heard of it. "Must have been important, poor dear," she turned to Sophia, giving her a simple pout.

((Um... I'm horrible I know... But this one has been eluding me forever. I think i'll just end it. Short, not so sweet, and just flat out defines their relationship .))
Sophia's face flushed a bright pink at Masin's smug taunt, smirk and chuckle. It wasn't a 'I'm laughing with you' chuckle either. To make it worse she even had to test the chair, as it make sure Sophia had performed the spell properly. Masin had always treated her like this, and she could never figure out why. Ever since first year. Even when Sophia had tried to prove, time and again, that she wasn't as pathetic as Masin seemed to think. It just didn't change. So why did she keep trying..? Or better yet, why couldn't she bring herself to dislike Masin, especially since Masin had made it clear she didn't like her... She chose not to answer Masin's taunt, instead simply frowning.
"It was only a letter." She quickly spat out the first thing that came to mind, not wanting to admit the truth. Which happened to be her charms essay. She'd spent days writing and rewriting it. Now... She'd probably have to pull a late night rewriting the paper as it was due tomorrow. Just her luck. She offered a forced smile to Masin's pout. "It's alright, I can just rewrite it." She quickly gathered her books up and stuffed them in her bag. In the same moment she pulled her wand back. With a quick swish, the ink that had spilled onto the table disappeared. While she couldn't salvage her paper, she could at least clean up the mess she'd made... Masin would approve of that, right? She suppressed a sigh as she rolled up the ruined parchment. Turning to dispose of the sheet, each step felt like it was weighed down with lead as she approached the blazing fire and tossed it in. She didn't want to, but the act would make the page seem less important, all so Masin would believe her lie.
"I should go, you know... plans and stuff." That lie was far more obvious, the girl unable to come up with a good excuse for her quick escape as she scooped up her bag and held it tight to her chest. "See you later." She quickly muttered as she hurried out towards the entrance, this time heading for the peace and quite of the library to try and salvage this assignment...
((Finish))
