Alice Longbottom was not one for mushy, nostalgic feelings. Or, if she was, those times were often spent in the comfort of her room back home and occasionally behind the comfort of the four poster bed curtains. Never did Alice typically allow herself to feel such things out and about, especially at school. But dinner had just ended, she had seen no sign of Carcer and she had caught a glimpse of James walking out of the hall with Aurora. She wasn't surprised but... it was beginning to hit her. How this was her last year at Hogwarts.
Alice was walking through the Hall to head to bed. But she stopped in the Entrance Hall to look around. She could almost feel the spring air coming through the doors. She enjoyed spring normally because of the rain showers, and it smelled as if one would be hitting soon. Then she was reminded of how she would often sit in the library with James and their friends, "studying" or just hanging out next to a window... rain splashing up against it. She missed James. She could finally admit that to herself, but most of all... she was slowly beginning to realize just how much she would miss Hogwarts.

@alice hurrying across the courtyard toward the castle, archer almost broke into a run. she was trying to beat the rain that she knew was coming. the clouds had rolled in and it smelled like rain. something about the way it hung on the air made it possible to tell when it would let loose from the clouds above. and she didn't want to get caught in it. she had been down studying plants at the edge of the black lake for an assignment. one for her herbology class. clutching her books close to her chest she hurried up the front steps and through the huge wooden doors and almost barreled straight into a familiar face. "alice!" she said, smiling as she did. stopping in her tracks she shifted the books in her hold. "it's a bit late isn't it? i thought you'd be fast asleep by now" her and alice had been friends for ages now. it had taken a while and a lot of patience but it was there. she smiled a little and brushed her hair back off her face and over her shoulder.

Memories of rushing through those large oak doors on rainy afternoons with James, Abby, and Casey came rushing through her mind. Nights that felt like tonight... yet here she stood, by herself... wondering what ever happened to all of them. What happened to James... that was when someone came barreling almost straight into her. Alice's first reaction was to lash out, but then she saw who it was. "Archer," she breathed, her eyes raising in slight surprise. She regained her composure after a few short breaths and shrugged. "I don't think I could sleep right now even if I tried," she said. Her head was much too preoccupied to really even think of sleep.

@alice archer blinked a little when alice said she couldn't sleep. that was never a good sign. there were lots of reasons someone wouldn't be able to sleep and hardly any of them were good for the person. whether it be stress or worry or something totally unrelated to those things it was still a bit concerning. she pulled her bag more onto her shoulder as she looked at her friend. "oh well .. if you'd like you can help me with my homework?" she said with a smile, teasing of course but it was an invitation for alice to come back to the common room with her and they could talk while archer did her homework. well the rest of it anyway. "promise to give you credit if it's a good mark"

Alice let a small smile appear. She appreciated Archer. She had always seemed like such a genuinely good person. "Sure," she nodded. Alice didn't mind helping those she liked. She had often helped James with his homework throughout the years. "What's the subject?" She let out a soft chuckle as Archer promised to give her credit. "I'm sure you won't need my help that much," she said. Archer had always kind of struck her as an intelligent girl. Alice couldn't imagine her needing her help that bad.

@alice "i beg to differ" she said with a smile as they started moving back to the common room. the homework was for a subject that she could easily say she almost hated. though that was a strong word so he just really really really disliked it. "it's potions" she said with a shudder and she pulled a face. the class she wished she could just not have to attend. but her mother and father had convinced her that it would help her in the long run. though she was under the impression they wanted her to fill that free spot she had had in her schedule. she ran a hand through her hair, brushing it back over her shoulder lightly and she rested her hand on the strap of her bag to stop it from falling.

At the very mention of the word, Alice let a physical shudder ripple through her body. "Ugh," she groaned, following Archer down to the dungeon. "I'm actually rather terrible at the subject myself." Alice forced a sarcastic half smile, the thought of the many hours she had put into studying for the class and could actually feel a headache coming on. "Aguillard's a tough professor," she shook her head at the thought of Professor Aguillard, the potions professor. "Have you ever been to one of his Slug Club parties? It's basically like a popularity contest," she rolled her eyes at the memory of the Christmas party she had attended.

@alice Have you ever been to one of his Slug Club parties? It's basically like a popularity contest," archer rolled her eyes a little and she couldn't help the scoff that came from her lips. her being invited to the slug club? that would be the day. she had no interest in making it into the exclusive club anyway. she was yet to actually figure out how the professor decided which student was good for it. she was just happy to be able to pass his class and not fail it, anything beyond that she didn't care about. "nope. never. and i don't want to" she said with a smile as she made her way down to the dungeons with alice. "i've heard the food is terrible"

Alice actually smiled lightly at Archer's comment about the food. "It is," she agreed, a light laugh emitting from her lips. Alice never would have accepted her invitation to the club if she had known how absolutely silly it was. Kids getting in based on their popularity or how well-known their last name was? It was silly, and often times she wondered how she got in. It certainly couldn't be her popularity and she wasn't even in any extra curricular until this year, so it had to be because of her last name. And that thought honestly disgusted Alice. "Well, what have you been up to? Aside from studying?" It was always awkward for Alice to try and make small talk, but lately she was getting much better at it and she found that as she spoke to Archer it didn't sound forced. That brought a small smile to her face in spite of herself.

@alice "Well, what have you been up to? Aside from studying?" archer laughed and shook her head a little. she knew it was a serious question from alice but she couldn't help but respond with humor. "is there anything else besides homework?" she asked as she hugged the books a little closer and kept walking toward their common room. she wasn't going to mention her meet with chase the other day, because that didn't count as something she had been up to. just something she had done though the more she thought about it. what!? no. gross. yuck. he was her brothers friend. she pushed that thought from her mind and looked at alice. "sooo any boys?" she said with a smile, curious.

Alice chuckled lightly at Archer's reply. "I suppose you're right," she said in response. come to think of it, Alice had quite a bit of homework herself. She would definitely have to get to work on it in order to have it finished by tomorrow. Her mind particularly let itself wander to a certain potions paper she had due in two days that she had yet to start... oh, well.
At Archer's question, Alice nearly stopped in her tracks but covered it up with a tiny foot fumble. Her face went a little pink. "Uh, no. No, not really," she stuttered out. Though Alice did like Archer, Alice rarely shared that information with anyone... besides, what was she going to say? She wasn't even sure how she felt... she had loved James for the past year but now... now, instead of James immediately coming to mind: it was James and Carcer. And that only made her face turn even more pink.
