@hannah @superluigi64 @philiplongbottom @alice @lestrange @aurora the hospital wing. it wasn't a place jayden had spent a lot of time while he was at school. but now laying in one of the beds jay wished he was anywhere else. he'd been almost awake for a few moments, having come around after being brought to the wing. he was still groggy, his head feeling like it wasn't attached to his body any more and he didn't remember what had happened. he'd been walking back to his dorm when the world had gone black. he saw the flash of someone's hand in his memory but that was all. just the hand. he winced as the pain burned through the bones that had been broken. the nurses had used spells to fix his broken bones. potions for pain and internal injuries needed to be taken but jay couldn't. the nurse had tried to give him one when he'd woken up but he hadn't been able too. they had come straight back up to the surprise of the nurse. he gripped his hand around the blanket and chewed his lip, breathing through the pain.
his head pounded and he felt too hot. maybe it was what had been on the cloth. his mouth still burned from the taste, his throat drier than it had ever been. even though he felt so hot his insides felt like ice, making him shiver a little. he didn't know what was going on. had he been poisoned? he didn't know. he wanted nothing more than to down a potion to stop the pain and help him sleep for a few weeks. even better to go back a few days and have this not happen to him. not being able to help a cough, jay groaned a little and shifted a hand onto his side, the mere effort of the movement making him feel even more tired. he heard voices, his eyes looking around the room, his vision fuzzing in and out as the room spun before him. leaning his head back he closed his eyes, feeling worse than he ever had in his life. he could hear voices, they sounded far away but he could heard them. and he knew them.

He leaned against the wall, not really seeing or hearing much of what was going on around him.
He was thinking. He’d failed to protect to many students this year, and now they had added to that list his own son, his youngest. He was thankful, of course, that Jayden had survived, though given how severely he’d been beaten, the pain was not going to be endured quietly. As soon as Jayden would be able to take a potion, they’d help him. Until then…well…Neville knew more than a little about pain. But for now, he could do nothing but wait for his son to return to them. Instead, he focused on what had happened. A professor and a student attacked. Eielson was unable to tell them who had attacked him, but the area bore the signs of battle, including a lot of water and melted ice. A classroom had been demolished just after Halloween with similar signs. He was fairly certain the professor was under the Imperius Curse, since he actively seemed unwilling to even speak about the fight. A simple memory charm couldn’t remove curiosity. Regardless…whoever had done this seemed to no longer fear Neville at all. That, or they wanted to complete his failure. Well, they got what they wanted.
But Neville had fallen many times before. He always got back up, even stronger.
He had to call together a meeting of the faculty and the Aurors soon. But he couldn’t leave the hospital wing until he knew his little boy would pull through. He planned out what he wanted to do in his mind. This little attack would prove to be a setback for this new group, of that he was certain. He’d had a lot of time to stew over this, standing sentinel beside his family as he was. And he knew what he intended to do. They wanted to use brute force against him? He would show them a political response. If they wanted to challenge him in an arena he was known to be deadly in, he would answer with an arena they had no idea he could deal with.
Thus far, he’d been largely zoned out, but the groan from Jayden brought Neville instantly back to the present. He darted forward and dropped down to one knee beside his youngest. Carefully, as carefully as he could, he put a reassuring hand on Jayden’s shoulder, one of the few places left intact from the beating. He nodded at Hannah, even as he drew his wand and held it loosely at his side. The Ennervate spell would be a double-edged sword—it would wake Jay up, bring all his senses and his mind up to full consciousness, but he’d also immediately feel the full pain of his injuries. Hannah had several potions at his bedside, but the one most important would be the painkilling potion. Once Jay was numbed, she could feed him the others, start knitting his body back together. He looked over at the others. “Kids, sit on the bed. We can’t apply pressure to his body directly, but you can use the blanket to keep him pinned down. He’s going to try to thrash until we can numb the pain.” Neville put a knee on the blanket himself as well, leaning his weight onto it, and looked up at his wife.
At her nod to go ahead, he gripped his son’s shoulder just a little, to keep it from moving. He forced himself to move forward, as he had so many years ago when treating injuries for the DA. It sucked, but it sucked anyway, and they had to make it better. He pointed his wand at his baby boy. “I’m sorry about this, Jaybird. Ennervate.”

Phil thought he was strong. He thought he was brave. But right now, looking at his little brother, his best friend... he didn't feel either of those things. He felt like he was a little boy, helpless and useless. Jayden was laying on the hospital bed. He hadn't moved in a while. Why did Phil feel like it was his fault his brother was here? It wasn't. There was no way Phil could have known. Maybe if he had gone with Jayden last night... no, he hadn't even known Jayden was going out.
There was a chair against the wall and he slumped into it. There was a knot in his chest and it upset his stomach, tore at his heart and tugged at his mind. He went over and over what he did last night. It was amazing how his brain was working overtime. Especially when all his body wanted to do was collapse. He dropped his head into his hands and squeezed his eyes shut. The bridge of his nose tingled with tears that threatened to burst out.
A noise registered in his ears. At first he thought he was imagining it, then he heard a scuffle and when he opened his eyes his dad was kneeling next to Jayden's bed. Why was that? He must have been more tired than he thought. Then his dad started talking. Something clicked in his mind. Jayden must be waking up. Phil scrambled out of the chair, nearly knocking it over and ran to the other side of the bed.
Anxiously, Phil's eyes were on Jayden as his father spoke to them. He pulled the blanket as tight as he could on his side and sat down, resting his arm on the other side of Jayden's legs. This was not going to be pretty.

Alice never thought anything bad would happen to anyone she loved. Much less a family member. But that state of mind had just further proven that Alice was in no way ready for what was becoming of their world. She was not accostomed to the real dangers of the world, no matter how much their father had told them about all of the terrible things he had endured when he was their age. Nothing could prepare her for this sort of thing. Jayden was hurt, and as far as she knew - someone had attacked him. Someone near this school. And Alice had a strong feeling it was the same person behind the muggleborn murders.
Alice stood in the Hospital Wing, just three feet away from Jayden's bed. She didn't know what to say. Her brow was creased in worry and she had been holding back tears since she had reached the Hospital. The Hufflepuff was never one to show emotion, but now when it counted most - she didn't even know how to process all of the emotions she was feeling. She felt as if she was going to explode. But that had to be nothing compared to what Jayden must be feeling. And the rest of her family... it killed her to see her mother upset. Even more so to see her father look so defeated, yet... angry and somewhat determined. Philip looked almost like she did, at a loss for words. Perhaps that was why she identified so well with her middle brother - the two shared a lot of the same personality traits. She wanted to hug him as he sat over there in his chair but... Alice wouldn't even know where to begin.
It what seemed like a very quick movement, Neville was down on one knee next to Jayden; one hand on his shoulder as he pulled out his wand. Alice noticed her father glance at her mother and in a moment, it all clicked with Alice. The Ennervate spell. She bit her bottom lip. It wasn't going to be easy. As Philip pulled Jayden's blanket toward him, Alice did the same on the opposite side. She sat down and applied her whole body weight to the blanket. She saw Philip put his arm over Jayden's legs and so with a glance at him, she did the same. She couldn't remember the last time she had allowed herself to even get this close to her brothers. And for the first time during the whole scene, tears began to flow down her cheeks. As her father said the spell, Alice held the blanket down and closed her eyes to try to stop the tears. It had all become too real too quickly. "Please, please be okay, Jay," she began to mutter through quiet, broken sobs.

Taking her children out of school was a completely crazy idea, but that didn't mean it wasn't on Hannahs mind right now. If the perpetrators were brave enough to take on her children, right underneath her husbands nose, they had some serious issues to deal with. Not that the murdered children wasn't bad enough, but this showed a whole knew level of danger. This showed that whoever was behind this wasn't afraid of even Neville which meant they probably weren't afraid of any member of the Order.
Hannah hadn't given herself a chance to break down, not yet. She had to get Jay to a stable place before she could allow herself to really emotionally react to the situation. When Neville contacted her about the attack, she was at Hogwarts as quickly as possible. Once there, she prepared everything she needed to take care of Jayden. The Hospital Wing had a great staff, of course, and they were very good with Jay before Hannah arrived. But this was something Hannah wanted to handle herself for the most part, and she knew Neville would agree.
Now she stood, preparing to administer the pain killing potions as soon as Jay was able. At the sound of her son stirring, Hannah glanced at Neville with an approving nod, non-verbally declaring that she was ready. As soon as the kids were in place and the spell was uttered, Hannah was administering the pain killer in seconds. It wouldn't start working right away...
She just had to push aside the way he was acting now and just do her work.

Andy was surprised by the overwhelming sense of protectiveness that swept over her when she heard what happened to Jayden. She had been called out of the common room, along with Phil, and led to the hospital wing. They walked side by side but she didn't reach out for him, even though a strong part of her wanted to. She was sure he needed it just as much as he did... but no, they just walked side by side in silence until they arrived at the scene.
Aurora and Alice were there, along with Mr. and Mrs. Longbottom. As everyone waited, pacing and whatnot, Andy hung back and leaned against the wall. She chewed on her lip excessively until finally a sound came from the bed. Everyone rushed over to it, including Andy who found herself clasping on of Jaydens hands gently when she arrived. She quickly let go, glancing up at Mr. Longbottom as he gave the instructions.
Her eyes then found Phil, who was sitting right across from her on Jaydens other side. She copied Phil's movement, tightening the blanket beneath her. She placed both hands on Jaydens legs and, finally, she looked up to make eye contact with Phil.
And that's when the thrashing started.

@hannah @superluigi64 @philiplongbottom @alice @lestrange almost as soon as neville had spoken the spell had it started to work on it's intended target. the breath it made jay draw into his body gave him a new meaning for the word agony. an agonised cry ripped out of his lungs as they were forced to work, every part of his body felt like it was broken. his body reacted to the pain he was in, his back arched and he tried to fight against the blanket that was pinning him to the bed, his reactions entirely instinctive as he tried to rid himself of the cause of some of the agony. he could feel his father's hand on his shoulder, could see him standing beside the bed with a look on his face that jay had never seen before. in a second jay had his hand clasped around his father's arm tightly. he turned his head toward his father, closing his eyes against the pain he was feeling. then he felt someone pour a potion into his mouth. he swallowed it without a thought and coughed at the horrible taste of it. he kept his hand clasped tightly around his father's arm. nothing in that moment would be able to make the grip he had loosen. as he slowly stopped fighting the blanket that was pressing down on him, he started turned onto his side and tried to curl up, a pained groan escaping from him again as he did.
before he closed his eyes, he'd seen his family. his mother, his brother and his two sisters. in the back of his mind he was glad they were there. he stayed curled up on his side for a moment, his face pressed against his father's arm as the pain potion started to take effect and he could feel the pain slowly getting duller and duller. he let out the breath he had been holding as it finally all but vanished apart from a very dull ache all over and he let his hand relax from his father's arm. he blinked when he saw his wrist, the black bruise around it. what was that? how the heck had it gotten onto his wrist?. he pulled his other hand out from under the blanket quick and saw it on the other hand too. he bit his lip as he slowly made to roll onto his back again. "what h-happened?" he asked, biting his lip as he looked from his father to his mother. had he fallen? no he had been grabbed. he could see the hand in his head. but that was where his memory came to an end. the next thing he remembered was the pain. he winced a little at the thought and shifted slightly. he saw the look on his family's faces. it was because of him. he was suddenly overwhelmed with guilt. "i'm sorry .. so sorry .. i" he swallowed, his eyes almost filling as he looked from face to face of the people standing around his bed. his family.

The screams of pain were like knives to his heart.
Neville forced himself to ignore them, to not see Natalie Macdonald screaming in agony, or Lavender Brown bravely hiding the pain of her werewolf bites, or Justin Finch-Fletchley biting down on a wooden spoon so hard it splintered while his wounds were being treated. He forced himself to keep his youngest child pinning, unable to thrash or react to the pain, while his wife force-fed the boy a potion to help him. He could not allow himself to feel right now. It would come later, after the danger was passed.
His children—all of them—did as told, keeping Jayden down so he couldn't hurt himself, until after an eternity, he seemed to calm down, the death grip on Neville's arm loosening slightly. “What h-happened?” The confusion in his voice made it all the worse, as did the realization that slowly crossed his face. “You were attacked.” That was all that needed to be said now. Whether Jay remembered any of it, how it had happened, the fact that a wand had not been used on him, none of that mattered until he was okay.
“I'm sorry... so sorry... I—”
Neville gently pressed a finger to his son's lips. Jay had been alone, which was against the rules, but that did not mean he deserved this. “This isn't your fault, Jaybird. It's my job to protect you. I'm the one who failed here.” He relaxed his hold on his son's shoulder now, but didn't let go. He needed to feel that his son was alive and staying that way, feel it with every sense he could. “I'm sorry.”
Neville looked up at his wife. “Hannah?” In a single word, he asked her if she was ready to begin the work of medicating and healing her son.

Andy's eyes met his. He wanted to say something to her. Well he wanted to do more than just say something. He was constantly alternating between hurt, love, and angry feelings toward her. But that was not what he was thinking about now. He turned his gaze back on his brother. Pushing all his feelings for Andy aside, he focused on the task at hand. Keep Jayden still.
The moment the spell hit, Phil knew it. Jayden's screams ripped through is ears and he didn't think he had ever heard anything so painful in all his life. With his jaw clenched, Phil kept a firm hold on the bed, both of his hands forming into fists. Thankfully, his mother acted quickly and the potion began to work. As soon as Jay wasn't threatening to kill them all with his thrashing, Phil let go of the blankets. This allowed Jayden to roll over. What happened next, Phil was not ready for.
"What happened?"
He didn't even remember? How were they going to find out who did this? How was Phil going to make sure that whoever did this never had the opportunity to do it again? He stood up, giving his brother some space to move. As he did so, he felt something inside him crack. He had never felt anything like it before. There weren't words to describe the feeling, but one thing was sure. Someone was going to pay for hurting his brother.

Alice had the utmost faith in her parents. They had both been through so much to clearly be qualified to take care of Jayden in such conditions, she knew that. But Alice had never personally seen a loved one hurt like that before. She knew her parents had... but Jayden was their son. That had to be an entire different ball game. And yet, they were still so calm and collected. Or at least seemingly. Alice knew it had to be hard for them, too. But she could hardly think of anything other than seeing Jayden's smile. She couldn't stand to see him hurt.
Alice had hardly noticed that the Lestrange sisters were there too. If she had, she probably would have given them an appreciative look but she was preoccupied.
The sound that came out of Jayden made Alice wince and bite into her bottom lip. She wanted to look away. More so, she wanted to run and hide. She cared so much for her brothers and she struggled with showing that daily, and it was hard for her to express what she was feeling watching this all happen. Alice settled on turning her head away from Jayden as she let a few tears fall down her cheeks. To hear someone you love in that kind of agony tore you to the core. Alice had never experienced such a terrible feeling before. Anger and irritance could never compare.
It seemed forever before Jayden had stopped thrashing and crying out. Their mother had given him a potion that seemed to have help with the pain. Finally it all ended and Alice felt herself let out a quiet sigh as she slowly turned back to look at Jayden and stood up, loosening the blankets now. She didn't quite know what to expect. He looked confused and the bruises on his wrists made Alice so incredibly angry. She tried to ignore how badly she wanted to hex whoever did that to him. She glanced at Phil and it seemed he was feeling a lot of the same emotions. She looked back at her youngest brother in the bed. "Jayden... y-you don't remember who did this to you?" She asked, quite confused by the situation herself.

As Jayden thrashed and cried out to, Hannah felt a sharp pain in her heart. She felt as though he was crying straight to her, that she was the only person who would be able to take care of him. In a way, she felt that she was. When he finally stopped, she found herself able to breathe again, at least momentarily. Her expression softened as Neville spoke, saying that it was his fault that Jayden was hurt. She frowned, staying silent for now. She felt a lot of things right now. That this was somehow her fault. That she hadn't made the right choices along the way somehow... Guilt was a popular emotion in the family, it seemed.
"Hannah?" as Neville said her name, Hannah turned to Neville, placing a hand on her husbands arm before giving a nod and pulling away, getting back to work. She was silent as she did so, working as quickly and efficiently as she could. She knew that Jayden would have a lot of questions, and the others would have questions for him. "Just speak when you're ready Jay, don't rush yourself." It was a command, in a way, but it was said in a calm and kind voice. The painkiller had worked it seemed, for now, but she knew that wasn't going to last. It also wasn't going to do any lasting good, which was why she had to continue helping Jayden-for who knows how long. She was definitely going to be staying at Hogwarts with Neville for a while, leaving the Leaky in the charge of her fantastic staff.

At the sound of Jaydens screams Andy's eyes widened and she tightened her grip on his legs. After a moment she felt her voice start to burst through her mouth in her own small whimpers. She bit her lip, turning her face away from having to watch Jayden. Tears started to stream down her face but she kept herself turned away until the screaming died down and he wasn't pushing so hard against her hands anymore. When she heard his voice she slowly turned back.
In that moment she made eye contact with Phil. She could tell they were having the same thought. Someone needed to pay for this. She found herself reaching over Jaydens leg to put a hand atop Phils, giving it a brief squeeze before turning her attention back to Jayden as he began to speak. He was sorry? What was he sorry for? He didn't do anything wrong. At Nevilles words Andy felt herself starting to tear up again. What was the matter with her? All of these emotions were becoming overwhelming. As Alice spoke Andy could tell she was having the same thoughts as she and Phil. The three of them were about to start a riot, it seemed, but they needed to hold their tongues. Anger wouldn't help anyone, not right now.
Andy bit her lip as Hannah continued to care for Jayden. She nodded when Hannah suggested Jayden take his time in responding. "Is there... can I help?" Andy's voice was quiet as she looked up between Neville and Hannah with the question.

Nothing but a small wimper escaped Aurora's throat at Jayden's screams. She couldn't even stay on the side of the bed, to help restrain Jayden's thrashing about. It all resonated too personally, constricting every muscle in her abdomen and causing her skin to writhe. He was helpless, but to feel every ounce of the spell coursing through his body. What could she do? She wanted to prevent this very kind of incident from happening, but so far had failed to even do that for someone she had come to care about. Jayden was family now, and this was all becoming a sensory overload.
As much as she wanted to, she could not close her eyes. She couldn't even turn away, from where she stood, closer to the foot of the bed, she shuddered until Jayden was quiet once more. Her tired eyes were dry before, but tonight they managed a tear to fall across her darkened eyes and thinning cheeks.
What disturbed her even more than the pain was the fact that Jayden had to ask about what had happened. He had clearly been assaulted, without magic, no less. What could she say? What could she really do? While fighting away doubtful ideas and thoughts against the designer of Jayden's fate, the thought occurred to her that Jayden might remember something in the long run. It might not be immediately, nor even that very night, but any detail he could remember would be worth hearing first hand. Then again, as long as he was alive and well, his attackers could rot in whatever hell would best suit against them. Her thoughts blurred together until the quiet brunnete was left wanting, needing to speak up... to express her concern, her usefulness, her own voice. Nearby, her sister, Andy, began to say what Aurora had been processing, but Aurora couldn't stand for the generality.
"There has to be something we can do." she said, her voice clear and concerned, blue eyes exhausted, but focusing. "Anything at all if it means Jayden will recover, his antagonist be damned." The protective tone that she was adopting came to remind her of her immediately previous thoughts and the words occurred naturally as she looked from Jayden to Mr. Longbottom. "Pragmatically speaking, perhaps even to be a sentinel in the odd hours of his recovery? I mean, you're bound to be more than busy in these next few days and I'll not be able to rest if there is anything Jayden needs."
A part of her understood that, in a previous life, she would have been grounded, slapped, or ranted at for speaking up like this and even daring to let slip a minor vulgarity - But she was too worn out to care. She had held her tongue for to long this night.

@hannah @superluigi64 @philiplongbottom @alice @lestrange @aurora jay turned his head away from their questions. they wanted to know what happened. he didn't know. he couldn't remember it. well .. he didn't think so? there were flashes but they were gone so fast he could hardly remember what they were before they were gone. he chewed his lip as he stared at the wall behind his dad as they talked amongst themselves. he wanted to tell them all they didn't have to be there now. he was going to be okay and the last thing he wanted was to keep them from things they should be doing. he'd broken the rules. he'd been on his own. how could he have been so stupid. they had said not to go anywhere alone. it was something he shouldn't have done and now him and his family were paying for it. he didn't mind himself being hurt, but he hated the looks on his family's face. they were hurting too and it wasn't fair on them. he swallowed a little, shifted slightly more onto his side and almost away from his mother. he didn't feel like he deserved her help right now. it was his own fault really. he shouldn't have been alone.
as he lay staring at the wall and listening to them talk above his bed he chewed his lip. closing his eyes for a moment he tried to focus on remembering what had happened. thinking so hard was making his head ache again but he felt that he was getting somewhere. little by little. he felt tired. more tired than he had ever felt in his life and at some point while thinking that, he fell into a light sleep. it was a bit of a restless sleep but it was still rest. he shifted as he started to dream. he dreamed about his family first, a christmas from a few years ago is what was taking over his dream at the moment. his siblings faces as they opened up their presents while the sun was still rising, sitting by the fire roasting marshmallows after stuffing themselves with the biggest christmas dinner he had ever seen. he whimpered in his sleep as the dream took a dark turn, his subconscious clearly wanting him to relive what had happened in one of the worst ways.
his eyes opened suddenly, waking up with a gasp as he moved to sit up a little, pressing his fingers into his eyes and closing them for a moment, chewing his lip and trying to figure out how to stop himself from almost freaking out. it took a few moments but by the time he could finally talk he dropped his fingers from his eyes and chewed his lip. he stared at the hand he had resting on the blanket. "i r-remember his hand .. he s-stuffed something into m-my mouth .. " he said, chewing his lip again. he knew it wasn't going to be any help. only that it ruled out any of the girls in the school. but that was still more than they could narrow down. he chewed his lip and shifted to lay back down against the pillows, wincing a little as he did and he moved to stare at the wall again, not willing to face his family yet. "that's all .. "

Neville let the others speak, mind winding back up now that the immediate danger had passed. He would leave Jayden’s care in the hands of his capable wife soon enough; unfortunately, the duties of Headmaster did not stop just because the incident was personally related to him. Besides, he’d had plenty of time to figure out a course of action, and Neville wanted to act. He looked at the children gathered here—all his, blood be damned—and noted their reactions. Alice and Phil, who had grown up in a kind, loving house, were showing their Longbottom blood now, itching to go on the offensive. They felt helpless to aid Jay, and so they wanted to find who’d done this and take them down, hard. Aurora and Andromeda, who had grown up in an abusive, controlling house, had eyes only for Jay, and how they could help with his recovery. It was an interesting dichotomy. Neville remembered that Aurora had, at least in the past, entertained thoughts of being a Healer, and wondered if that was still one of her dreams.
He smiled at the Lestrange sisters, putting one hand on each shoulder. “Just being here is helping, even though it might not seem like it. But if you want to help keep watch over Jay while he recovers, you’re very welcome to do so.” Then he tapped them both on their noses, adding in a voice that was both stern and kind, “But no skipping class.” He knew that would be the hardest part for any of them—to keep moving, to do things like nothing had happened when it had, but the world didn’t stand still for tragedy like it should.
Then he turned to Philip and Alice. He grabbed their arms and pulled them aside, eyeing Hannah for a moment so she’d know this was important. He pulled them away from Jayden’s bed, just far enough that they could speak quietly without their brother hearing everything. “You two feel it, don’t you? I can see it in your eyes.” He looked from one to the other. Unless he missed his guess, Philip was getting it worse. Alice blended her mother’s temper in more, but Philip was so much like him… “That boiling, raging anger that you feel when you lose your temper…it’s there, just so much worse than normal. But you can’t feel it. You know you should be fuming and ready to bite someone’s head off, but the anger…it’s still your own anger, but it’s like you’re looking at it from someone else’s perspective. You feel it, but you’re detached from it, and you’re still thinking perfectly clear. It’s a cold, tranquil fury.”
He looked from one to the other. “Be very, very careful when you feel like this. Because once you find an outlet for the anger, take it from me, you won’t care about the consequences of your actions. What you feel right now is what I felt at the Battle of Hogwarts…the night that I killed more than forty of Voldemort’s followers. Remember, when you’re like this, you’re both very dangerous. And so is your brother.”
