overall personality:
jamie’s whole personality has not been constructed around what she wants to be, but rather what she does not want to be. ever since she learned of her father’s identity, jamie has been trying to be the opposite of him; kind and caring, loyal and good. she doesn’t want her name to go down in history as simply the child of one of the most notorious killers. as a result, she’s pushed herself to be true to her word. jamie refuses to lie or go back on her word, even if it’s to her own detriment. she has too much to prove.
one of jamie's biggest flaws is her insecurity. she's sensitive to what other people think of her, and too often assumes that she's being viewed negatively. she especially cares about the opinions of her family and friends, perhaps more than she should. jamie's fought hard for the love that she has in her life, and she's terrified that some intrinsic flaw of hers is going to cause it to all melt away. she doesn't really realize that not every bad thing that happens to her is her fault, which only serves to add to these insecurities.
as a result of her affliction, jamie has never been good with people. she’s too worried about their reaction when they find out she’s a werewolf, and even worse, she’s afraid of what she can do to them if she makes even one mistake. she tends to avoid crowds and public gatherings, and when she’s forced to attend, stays in the shadows. talking with some people is hard for jamie, but once she gets going it's hard for her to stop. jamie's need for information, especially pertaining to her condition, is insatiable. curiosity, after all, killed the cat, but it can’t do a damn thing to the wolf.

history:
jamie’s mother was young. she became pregnant at the age of seventeen and gave birth the week after her eighteenth birthday. she didn’t know that the man who charmed her with his money was a wizard; he didn’t realize that she, a humorous young woman, was a muggle. the teenaged ella didn’t know what to do when, three weeks after her child was born, the baby turned into a furry little ball and wouldn’t stop howling.
luckily, wizarding law enforcement professionals heard the howling and went to investigate. ella, in tears, gladly handed over her child for the night, and then went on to have her first good night’s sleep since her baby was born. this became a monthly occurrence; once a month, the wizards would show up and take the baby away, and return her to her mother in the morning. when jamie was old enough to understand how strange the arrangement was, she was told the two mle officials were her aunt and uncle. aunt liza and uncle bernard became her connection to the wizarding world, despite the fact that jamie spent the rest of her life like a normal muggle.
when jamie was seven, she wolf got the better of its protectors one night. she hadn’t taken the wolfsbane potion – a logistical error in its delivery had resulted in her being unable to take it – and two relatively unexperienced wizards were watching the room where she was being kept. it required the elder of the two wizards breaking her paw, badly, to subdue the wolf. she had no memory of breaking her fingers, obviously, and the combination of the fear from being unable to remember and the pain of the broken bones made jamie difficult to be around and rather obstinate. more than anything, she wanted to know who was responsible for the monster that made her have to hurt.
it didn’t take a lot of searching for jamie to figure out who her father was. liza and bernard told her there were very few werewolves left in britain, and after ella provided her daughter with a description of the girl’s father it was a matter of asking to find her father’s identity. finding her father was a death eater, a murderer, an all-around awful person…it changed the way jamie viewed the world. it changed the way she viewed herself.
jamie made it her mission in life to atone for her father’s sins. as an eight-year-old, that was difficult. after she went to hogwarts, though (being sorted into hufflepuff – no surprise there, considering her need for loyalty and justice), there were ways to make real changes. she began advocating for revolution in every way she could. she coped with her…affliction…the only way she could; she ignored it when possible and when she couldn’t, she sent an owl to aunt liza and uncle bernard. she had friends at school, but it wasn’t exactly easy to bring a topic like that up.
as for her siblings, jamie didn’t need huge leaps in logic to figure out she had them. if her father was willing to sleep with a seventeen year old muggle, then it wasn’t hard to figure out he was willing to sleep with witches who were more his age range. it was possible that those unions also resulted in children. her blood family was another thing that jamie coped with by avoidance; more relationships were complicated. she didn’t like to complicate things, and let the others have their space. she needed her space, too.
all of those notions disappeared, though, when she bumped into her brother in the hallway, found another brother at the train station a few weeks later, and met her sister for the first time not an hour after that. meeting her family was one of the best things ever to happen to jamie, and she would not trade them for the world, even though sometimes they drove her crazy.
jamie's life took an unexpected turn when one night, on the full moon, her wolfsbane potion was sugared. the next eight hours changed the course of her life forever. jamie bit another student at hogwarts, and the guilt began to drive her crazy. the next weeks are a blur of emptiness and remorse and self-pity. it was a bad night, and a bad month, but nothing could prepare jamie for the coming storm.
