Things were seemingly back to normal now. Ondina was released from the Hospital Wing but she was... different. There was a darkness to her that he couldn't read. She, no doubt, was upset that he jumped to save Rose first in that tower... but a lame part of him hoped that she hadn't noticed. They were in the Great Hall now, surrounded by a number of students doing their own thing while Scorp and Ondina were playing a rather intense Chess Game. They were both of the Chess team, so it really made a competition for him whenever they played together. It felt nice, sitting across from her and watching that focused look on her face. "Your move, Weasley," he said in a low voice. Weasley, he felt sick to his stomach calling her that for a moment. He cleared his throat awkwardly. ______________ Ondina Nell Weasley & Rozalina Antonina Nightshade and @desirae and @adalyn if they want to jump in at the end

Ondina had been bristling. Ever since Cassius, she'd found her patience for Scorpius growing thinner and thinner. She was sure, absolutely sure, that he had feelings for Rose. Strong feelings. Stronger then his feelings for her. But to be fair she knew she had stronger feelings for Cassius then the Malfoy boy...
But here they were, pretending everything was normal. Like nothing had happened. A chess board between them. Chess was one of their shared hobbies, and probably one of the reasons they'd initially gotten to know each other. Even now, chess made things feel... like nothing had happened. Like they were perfectly happy and content with each other. Deep down though she knew it was only temporary...
Ondina looked from the board as Scorpius announced it was her turn. She slowly smiled sweetly. "Weasley? That's formal, Malfoy" She taunted as she dropped her gaze again, examining the board, before finally making her own move. She propped her elbows on the table, her head in her hands as she looked back up at him, that innocent smile still in place. Something darker loomed though... Deep down, reminding her of what he'd done, the decision he'd made....

Since the tower had exploded... Rose had not been able to focus as well as she used to. She had hit her head, but it have any lasting affects. No, her head was distracted by something far more deadly. Scorpius Malfoy.
Exams were nearing and Rose had just spent the majority of the afternoon in the library, as per usual. Her mind, however, had begun to wander dangerously to Scorpius and the explosion at the Astronomy tower. When the first initial explosion had hit... he had come running at her instead of his own girlfriend, her cousin Ondina. All her life, Rose had had a very rocky relationship with Scorpius. The two always had butted heads in classes, in the halls... they were inevitable enemies. Their fathers before them had seen to it. Ron Weasley was not one to let things go very easily, and he had made sure to warn his children about the son of Draco Malfoy. But as of late, Rose found herself feeling differently toward Scorpius. As one that happened to be very in tune with her own feelings, Rose had come to terms with the fact that she had begun to develop feelings toward Scorpius. Which was sort of an issue, since he was with her cousin and all.
Rose hoped a change of scenery would help get her mind off of the blond Slytherin, so she took a deep breath as she entered the Great Hall. Bam. The sight of them hit Rose almost like a ton of bricks. She didn't know what she had been expecting. The two of them were dating, they had been on and off for years now. But after what had had happened in the tower, Rose just thought that maybe things between she and Scorpius would be different. They had been nicer to one another but other than that, nothing had changed. Rose felt her breath catch as she stopped and met with Scorpius's own eyes. She immediately averted her gaze and shuffled off to the Ravenclaw table but made a specific effort to sit where she could see Scorpius. Why? She had no idea. So much for clearing her head.

Scorp was grateful that she wasn't entirely upset about what he had called her. Still, that was what he called Rose so he still felt sick about it. Aw, speak of the devil. Rose walked in and Scorp found himself straightening up at the sight of her, making eye contact with her. He cleared his throat, turning back to Ondina but noticing how Rose sat so that they could still see each other. Why did she do that? Scorp kept his eyes focused on the blonde in front of him. "Good choice," he muttered, taking in what Ondina had just done on the chessboard. And then he made a big mistake. He moved his next piece, not even paying attention to what he was doing. Ondina knew that he didn't like to look stupid and that he prided himself in his chess skills, so screwing up so badly on purpose was a dead giveaway that he wasn't paying any attention... Ondina didn't need to see who had captivated Scorpius' attention. She didn't need too, because she knew. The way he puffed himself up like a peacock, that look in his eye. He used to look at her like that. Once upon a time. That bristling was back, but dark, angrier...
Well, there went her somewhat good mood for the day.
She didn't even notice the move he'd just made on the chess board. She didn't even look down at it. Instead she focused on him... No, she glared. Her eyes had narrowed slightly, and they flashed with that burning anger that was building. Scorpius, amazingly, had never been at the other end of her temper, he'd never managed to tick her off enough for her to actually lash out at him. But he knew the signs, and he knew that look. Because up until now, it'd meant he'd have to stop her from causing any serious damage to someone. Never had she given him that look before. Which brought up a new dilemna. If he usually protected others from her.... Who would protect him?
"You and Rose seem to be getting along."

Scorpius gulped in fear. Actually gulped.
He had seen that look. He had seen her give it to Albus many times, and a few others. It meant that he had to save someone from being seriously hurt emotionally and on occasion physically. But now that look was aimed at him and he didn't know what to do. He stared into those eyes and fear started bubbling up inside him like a fiery lava. He could fill words about to leave his lips until she spoke first.
He took a deep breath, wanting so badly to look away from her but he couldn't. He was positive she was using some magic to hold him there. "Yeah we-" his voice came out slightly higher than he intended, so he cleared his throat. He chuckled nervously, "just trying not to fight so much."
His act was not even a little bit believable.

Ondina barely managed to hide that smug smirk as she saw that flash of fear. At least he understood the predicament he was in. But it was his fault. He'd created this..... this... whatever this was. She was to mad to smirk though. To smile, to even frown. She just glared, that anger burning. Hotter, and hotter... Until turning bone chilling. Definitely not a good sign. She had a wicked temper, that had two stages. There was the explosive burning rage he'd seen. And then there was the ice that followed. Where her eyes hardened, but she went unusually calm.
"Was this decided before, or after you saved her first?" She slowly and carefully asked, never looking away as she removed her elbows from the table in front of her. She'd completely forgotten the game between them. She hadn't forgotten the fact that they were in the Great Hall though. Those closest to the pair had felt the change in mood immediately and gone silent. Dead silent.

She said it. She finally said it. He hadn't mentally prepared himself for this in any way. He secretly thought that it would never get brought up. That it was all over, under the rug, that he was in the clear. And he clearly wasn't. The horrible glare from her eyes said that. Her voice, her body language. He caught his breath, his posture failing him as he slouched forward a little before finally finding the courage to speak. "I'm sorry," his voice was as quiet as a mouse and his eyes finally broke from hers to look down at the chessboard in front of them. Ondina Nell WeasleyRozalina Antonina Nightshade@save me

I'm sorry
Those two words were a bucket of cold water being dumped on her. Not out of shock, but it finally broke what little resolve and hesitation Ondina still had. It was admittance, a confession. That she was right.
Ondina hadn't intended on confronting Scorpius about this so soon. She'd wanted to give it some time, to let things settle down. But that look had just tipped her over the edge. Woke that sleeping dragon deep inside... And it wasn't going to go back to sleep.
Their house mates were actually inching away at this point, and it'd had created an almost void around them. The Slytherins weren't the only ones who'd noticed the tense air from the pair, several Ravenclaws at the neighboring table were now watching in morbid curiosity. While Ondina and Scorpius had never been a stable couple, they'd never had outright fights in such a public place.
Slowly, meticulously slow, Ondina reached across the board, plucking his queen chess piece and giving it look over after bringing it back to her side of the table. "I only have one question. Was this only a recent development, or have you always preferred her? Was I always second choice?" She flickered her eyes back to Scorpius after speaking in a hushed, barely even a whisper of a tone.

Scorps eyes widened as she lifted his queen, his heart sinking drastically as she did so. She pulled it toward her and Scorp knew that it was over. He knew that he was one hundred percent screwed over and there was no way he was getting out of this one. There was no way that he could fix this. "I-Erh-" great, he couldn't even get his words out. He couldn't even answer her. He looked down at the table, his hands in his lap turning bright white. He finally looked back up at her and shook his head. "I care about you. I always have. I always have," not that this was going to save him... Ondina Nell Weasley

Scorpius really wasn't helping the situation.
He was also being a complete coward. Ondina had never seen him so tongue tied before. He was usually so calm, and put together, confident. When had he become so.... well cowardly was a good word. When had he started to cower before her anger? Ondina met his gaze, her own harsh and ice cold, as she waited for an answer, as if daring him to lie to her.
He didn't. In fact, he couldn't even say anything at first, which made her lips tighten into thin frown. Finally though, he managed to form words. Neither admittance or rejection. If she hadn't been angry she would have felt that sharp pain in her heart. Of course she cared about Scorpius. They'd been through so much together. Not just the two years of dating on and off, but even before then. She cared deeply for him. And at one point she would have said she loved him. The betrayal though. Of knowing that she wasn't his first choice, that he wanted her cousin. Had it always been like that? "That isn't enough." She finally said, her voice actually shaking with her anger. She wasn't whispering anymore either. Though she wasn't yelling, her words seemed to echo due to the silent voice those eavesdropping had created.
Ondina dropped the queen piece she'd been holding, the soft thump as it hit the board carrying just like her voice had as she slowly stood, hands on the table. "I won't play second choice. Not to her." She sharply pointed towards the Ravenclaw table behind her. Ironically she was pointing exactly at Rose. Well, subtlety was just thrown out the window with that statement. Because now even several Hufflepuffs and Gryffindors had picked up on the fight. And since she was no longer whispering. There was a slight huff in her voice though, barely discernible over the angry trembling. People always told Ondina not to get riled up, to try and stay calm. Not because she had a bad temper (which she did), but because that temper usually caused an asthma attack. She could feel her chest tighten a bit, but it wasn't bad. Not yet.

He winced as the chess piece hit the table. As she stood, pointing right at Rose Scorpius shook his head, "you weren't second choice! I wanted you first. I wanted to be with you," his voice was weak, barely inaudible unless you were sitting close by. He stood too, reaching a hand out in an attempt to place it on hers, her hand that was on the table. "Ondina, don't do this. Don't make this happen. Please, we can still fix this." He knew the words weren't true even as they escaped his lips. He knew what their fate was. He had made his decision in the tower that day. He impulsively he had followed his heart and it led him to Rose. He has sealed their fate.
Still, he whispered, "please don't do this."

"Weren't. Wanted." Ondina repeated slowly, meticulously. "That's past tense, Scorpius." She hissed the words out. And when he moved to cover her hand with his own? She yanked it back, out of reach. "Don't." She sharply retorted as she stepped over the bench, putting not only the table but the bench she'd been occupying between them. Her breath was getting shorter, but still manageable.
"Don't make this happen?! I'm not making anything! You did!" Her voice raised then, still not yelling but about as close as you could get. They'd now caught the attention of those sitting at the staff table (If that said how loud her 'not yell' was.). "You can't fix something that you clearly don't want anymore!" Okay... she was yelling now. Which did not help her asthma, that was already acting up, at all. She felt a familiar tightness in her chest, and let out a short, breath. She still looked angry as heck, but the color was slowly draining from her face (from the growing difficulty in breathing). Why did it have to happen now, of all times? She ignored it though. Right now, she was to angry to care.

Rose had opened up her Arithmancy book to try and study and to try and avoid looking at Scorpius. She regretted sitting down facing him the moment she did it but figured it would have looked just as bad to get up and move away from him. Instead, she rested her hands on her cheeks and tried hard to concentrate, ignoring the pull she felt to look up at the Slytherin table.
However, when she heard voices raising at that table she happened to look up. She couldn't make it out, but Ondina and Scorpius seemed to be arguing again. Rose rolled her eyes but couldn't look away. What were they arguing about? Something pointless, no doubt - perhaps about their game of chess, even. Then... as if on queue, Ondina pointed straight back at her and in that moment Rose knew... they were arguing about her. No doubt about how Scorpius had chosen to save her over Ondina that day in the tower.
Something in the way Scorpius looked to be pleading to Ondina snapped something in Rose and before she could stop herself, she found herself walking around the Ravenclaw table and back around to them at the Slytherin table. "What's going on?" She asked, looking from Ondina to Scorpius, letting her eyes linger on him, then back to Ondina. "Were you just pointing at me?" She asked, as if she had not seen it correctly.

Scorpius literally winced as she called him out on the past tense nature of his words. He wasn't surprised when she pulled her hand back, either. He looked up at her with pleading eyes and pulled let his hand fall flat on the table where her hand had been. They had broken up before, of course, but this was completely different. This was... final. She started getting more upset and he could tell she was having trouble breathing. He did this, he knew that. This was one hundred percent his fault. "Ondina, please, don't get upset it's not good for you-" and then she appeared. Scorp didn't even notice her coming until her voice was at his side. His eyes flickered to hers and seemed to linger there until she turned back to Ondina. Scorp shook his head, finally standing. "No, no, Rose don't worry about it. It's nothing," he tried to say, but his eyes fell on Ondina again and he knew it wasn't nothing, and he knew that he wouldn't be able to trick Rose. He didn't want Rose to find out how he felt. Not like this. Ondina Nell Weasley Rozalina Antonina Nightshade
