Odette couldn't help the sad and concerned looking face she wore as she listened to what Jamie had to say. It was saddening to hear Jamie speak that way, but Odette could see why she thought that way. Odette had been through similar emotions when her mother died. She had blamed herself for being the product of a night of lust and the reason why Fenrir had killed her, but as she got older she realized that was the furthest thing from the truth. And she learned to accept that things happened for a reason.
"I... get where you're coming from," Odette said slowly, knowing fully well that she and Jamie were diving into an emotional conversation of which they had never explored but she felt she had to have this conversation with Jamie. Like she was one of the only ones who really could. "But you can fix anything," Odette said, looking Jamie in the eyes. "If you put your mind to it, I know you can." Odette didn't want Jamie to go on for the rest of her life blaming herself, and after a moment of silence, she wanted to voice that. "You don't need to blame yourself. You'll find you can be so much happier when you don't." Odette let out a small sigh. "But, I'm not trying to tell you what to do. Just giving you some advice. I know what it feels like to blame yourself for things you can't really control." She admitted, surprising herself a little that she even opened up to that bit of information.

This was what having an older sister was supposed to be like, Jamie was pretty sure. She liked it a lot, Jamie decided, because she needed as many people as possible to tell her that life wasn’t always her fault. The more people that told her, the more likely it was that she’d believe them. “I can’t fix the past, though.” Jamie said sadly. That was where most of her regrets were, and the choices she had made, the things that had happened – they were permanent, unfixable. Once again Jamie felt as if she was crossing an unspoken line, but there was no way that Odette would understand what she was saying if she kept it vague. The truth would come out eventually, if Aaron hadn’t told her already. “I bit another kid at the school, Odette. It was an accident, someone sugared my Wolfsbane, but…” She trailed off. “I can’t fix that, sadly.” She would do anything to give Matt his life back, but she couldn’t do that. That was one of things that the Hufflepuff couldn’t fix, not with any amount of believing.
“Is it scary to see someone else repeating your mistakes?” Jamie asked her sister curiously. Jamie had been trying to get Max to open up, almost pushing her younger sister towards her own mistakes, but it was still a question worth asking. Maybe the two sisters weren’t as different as they thought they were. “I appreciate the advice, by the way.” The Hufflepuff said, giving her older sister a cautious smile.

Odette's brow was creased with so much worry and sadness for Jamie when she said she couldn't fix the past. Her lips parted, about to speak, but the look Jamie wore stopped her and all Odette could bring herself to do was look at her sister, wondering what on Earth she meant by that. Then she said it. Jamie had bit someone. Odette's eyebrows raised only slightly, and her eyes still wore a look of worry as she looked at her sister for a moment longer before looking down at her hands. She wasn't sure how to respond at first. She didn't blame Jamie though. She knew that her half-sister couldn't control that part of her.
"Jamie," Odette finally said with a sigh, her eyes closing for a moment. She let out a second sigh after a longer pause and looked up at her sister. "You're not going to agree with me, but that wasn't your fault." She shook her head. "I know that... when in that state, you aren't totally aware of everything that's going on around you. Your intentions become... blinded. You didn't hurt that person on purpose, Jamie." She said firmly but her voice was quieter than usual. "I know you may still feel like you want to fix that, but don't blame yourself for that. You couldn't help it." Odette wondered if this was what older siblings were designed for... giving advice like this. She also wondered if it was any good. She wasn't exactly good at this sort of thing, she felt.
Odette's brow furrowed once again but this time in curiosity. "Mistakes?" She asked, wondering what Jamie could possibly be talking about. She realized after she asked that, that perhaps that wasn't the important question at hand. "Who are you talking about?"

Jamie was pleasantly surprised by her sister’s reaction to the bombshell that she had bit someone. Odette was understanding about it – everyone she had told had been understanding, which was really weird, because people were supposed to hate werewolves. People did hate werewolves. Maybe Jamie had finally managed to accept that, so she didn’t hear all of the whispers anymore. Either that, or someone more powerful than she had instrumented a silent takedown of everyone who would say anything. She doubted Adrian could do such a thing, but Lily, maybe…Well, that was beside the point. Jamie hadn’t realized how little others had affected her in the long term. All the guilt she had felt was her own, not pushed on her by somebody else. “I guess that’s something I’ll have to work on this year.” She answered with a half-smile. “Because I’m certain that I’m going to end up making a lot more stupid mistakes, and then I’m also supposed to be teaching the boy I bit how to be a safe werewolf, and…” She trailed off. “Well, I hated his girlfriend for a while, but I think she moved to Russia or something, so there’s that.” She added to lighten the mood. There were just a lot of factors to consider in the coming year. Jamie wanted to be the best version of herself that she could be, and school was just another way to get there.
“I mean me.” Jamie said firmly. “I wanted to push people away instead of letting them in, after I bit Matt. And…that’s what you did.” The Hufflepuff realized that was a blunt way of putting things, but it wasn’t like it could be helped – she and Odette both knew that the elder sister hadn’t exactly welcomed their family with open arms. “But it’s okay now.” She said with a shrug. “Forgiven, not forgotten, et cetera.” They had already hashed that out, and there was no need to return to it.

It was odd for Odette to find herself actually wanting to open up and talk to Jamie like this. It was like the universe finally said "no more fighting," and that was that. Odette tried to keep an open mind as she listened to Jamie. "You're still in school," Odette shrugged. "School is for making those stupid mistakes and learning from them." Odette offered up a very small smile. When Jamie mentioned a "girlfriend" of this guy... Odette's eyebrows raised. "Oh?" She muttered a little awkwardly. "Uh... did you... like the guy or something?" There could not be a more awkward conversation for Odette to talk about.
Odette wore a face that was clearly uncomfortable. Though, it was mainly herself that she was upset with. She had never considered the way her actions would have affected the blonde that stood in front of her and had been the victim of Odette's ruthless temper. Odette looked away from Jamie, and even though Jamie said it was "forgiven," Odette still felt the need to say it. "I'm sorry."

Somehow, Jamie didn’t think that school was the place to bite someone accidentally, but she could understand the sentiment behind the idea that school was the place to make stupid mistakes. Just not mistakes that were that stupid. When the conversation turned back around to Matt, and Odette suggested that she liked him, Jamie laughed out loud. “No, definitely not.” She said after her laughter had died down to a manageable level. “I have a girlfriend.” Jamie had never hidden the fact that she liked girls, but she hadn’t exactly been open about it, either, so she paused a moment to try to gauge Odette’s reaction. It would be just her luck to be getting along with her sister for the first time they met and then discover that said sister was a homophobe.
“It’s fine, Odette.” Jamie repeated. “Sometimes you say things to people without meaning them. And sometimes, even if you do mean them, you never meant for their consequences to happen.” Even if Odette had hated her, Jamie doubted that her older sister would have wanted the situation to pan out the way it did, with Jamie leaving home and Aaron becoming her guardian. Even if Jamie didn’t want to forget the situation, she did want to move on from it, especially now that she had seen how genuinely sorry her sister was.

Odette was so confused by Jamie's laughing. Had she finally pushed her sister to the brink of insanity? Why was she laughing? Odette raised an eyebrow at the blonde as she waited for the laughing to die down. Finally, it had and Odette understood that Jamie didn't like the boy; that was probably why she was laughing. But then Jamie went on to say she had a girlfriend. Odette's ears would have perked up like a dog if they could have. A smile spread slowly across her face as she looked at her sister. The fact that Jamie felt comfortable enough to tell Odette that, considering their past, felt good. "Well, what's her name!?" She asked somewhat excitedly.
Odette was ready to move on. She was finally at a place where she felt that she could forgive and "forget" as best she could. She narrowed her eyes at Jamie after she spoke. "Has anyone ever told you that you can be pretty wise? I mean, for someone your age," she shrugged with one shoulder.

Jamie was pleasantly surprised with how Odette reacted to the news that her younger sister had a girlfriend. There wasn’t an awkward moment of shock at the news, or a look of disgust, or any of the things that Jamie had been afraid of. In fact, Odette smiled, and Jamie smiled back before she could stop herself. “Harper Weasley.” Jamie said, trying to keep a blush from crawling onto her cheeks at the mention of her girlfriend. She ducked a little away from her sister, feeling shy all of a sudden. “She’s Charlie Weasley’s oldest child.” Jamie supplied helpfully, since the surname Weasley wasn’t exactly specific anymore. Jamie had a lot more to say about Harper, especially since she finally had an older sister with which to discuss those kinds of things, but she didn’t want to overwhelm Odette with all of her gushiness.
“Once or twice.” Jamie said with a shrug. “I’ve had some stuff happen to me that kind of necessitates a more mature worldview.” Case in point: leaving her mother. “Has anyone told you that you can be pretty cool?” Jamie smirked. “I mean, for someone your age.” What was the point in having siblings if you couldn’t tease them every once in a while?

Of course Odette was happy for Jamie. If anyone deserved to be happy, Odette knew it was Jamie. Especially after all of the stuff she had just laid out for her. Jamie had it pretty rough... from leaving her mother to biting a fellow student. Jamie deserved some stability in her life. Odette worked with Harper Weasley's uncle, so she knew of Charlie fairly well but she couldn't pinpoint Harper. A small smirk appeared on Odette's face. "A Weasley, eh? Does she have red hair?" Odette couldn't help herself. It was pretty well known that the majority of the Weasley family all had red hair, and she couldn't help not cracking the joke.
"Hey now," Odette said, raising an index finger at the blonde. I am not much older than you so you better watch it!" She threatened, but still wore a small smile. "You'll have to tell me more about girlfriend, you know," Odette folded her arms across her chest. "In a... male-free environment. So, if you ever want, you can stay at my place too." She shrugged. She had the extra room, so why not loan it out every now and then? Perhaps she could even charm the bed to be bigger if Max ever wanted to come along too.
@jamie I figured we could wrap this up shortly and get into more present times.

Jamie rolled her eyes at her sister when Odette pointedly said the word Weasley. It was kind of hard in their day and age not to be at least peripherally familiar with a Weasley, so Jamie didn’t know why Odette was making such a big deal about it. Jamie had just turned ‘peripherally knew’ into ‘girlfriend’. That was allowed! “Yes, she has red hair. Though I don’t think either of her siblings do.” Jamie hadn’t actually ever spoken with either of Harper’s siblings, but she had seen them around – the middle Weasley child was in her year, so they had some classes together.
“I don’t know, a year can be a long time…” Jamie said with a giggle. She wasn’t sure exactly how much older Odette was, but a year or two could definitely make a big difference. “Don’t get me started, or you’ll never stop.” Jamie warned Odette. It was one of things that she could talk about forever. The Hufflepuff was slightly taken aback when Odette offered to let her stay with her occasionally. That would be nice. If Aaron ever needed to kick her out for some reason, she had a backup plan until she could find a place of her own. “That would be nice, Odette.” Jamie said with a small smile. She paused. “Is it alright if I kick you out? I just remembered I promised Aaron I would clean.” No one she knew would volunteer to help clean, so it seemed to be a safe way to end the conversation on a high note.

A small smirk just spread across Odette's face when Jamie said that her girlfriend did, indeed, have hair. Odette was happy for Jamie. More so, she was happy that Jamie now felt comfortable to tell her that she had a girlfriend. Not many families were accepting of that sort of thing, but even the Greybacks (as messed up as they were,) were still accepting of one another it seemed. And that was progress in the right direction. "Well," Odette continued now nonchalantly. "I can't wait to meet her."
Odette continued to smile as Jamie seemed to like the idea of staying with her occasionally. Well, at least she didn't flat out say no! When Jamie said she had remembered she had promised Aaron she would clean, Odette stood up. "That's fine, that's fine," she said, raising her hands up in mock defense. "I'll get out of your hair." She headed toward the door and turned around to look at Jamie once more before leaving. "If you need anything, just send me an owl. Anything at all," she said seriously, raising her eyebrows at her sister. She turned to put her hand on the doorknob. "See you, Jamie," she flashed out quick smile at her half-sister before stepping a few feet out the door and Apparating away.
