Tonight marked the final week of Calliope's performances of Fantine in London West End's production of 'Les Miserables'. Her fellow actors always had questioned where Callie went during the months of September to June, and she had always vaguely replied 'working abroad'. Scotland she knew wasn't technically abroad, but they didn't have to know that! Tonight was more special than usual; two of her musically inclined was in the audience at her invitation. Georgiana Linley & Lavinia Creevey, were some of the best singers Callie had heard since coming to Hogwarts, and before term had ended they had mentioned wanting to see her West End show if she had time in the summer. Luck paid off when Lavinia had let her know she'd be in London during her last week of performances, so she had been able to set aside Orchestra tickets for both girls and promised to meet them after the show.
After the final bow, Callie quick rushed backstage where her hairstylist took off the short wig and bald cap. She fluffed out her long red hair and changed into a tank top and white capris before heading out into the theatre. She signed a few programs, looking for the girls. Finally, she spotted themand waved. "Lavinia! Georgiana!" she called, making her way over. She gave the students a warm smile. "Thank you for coming; I hope you enjoyed the show!" she said happily.

Georgie couldn’t believe that her teacher had invited her to see her in a show on the West End. Georgie had never been to Broadway when she lived in America – she was just too far away from New York to make that sort of thing plausible for someone so young – and obviously the orphanage wasn’t in the habit of making field trips to anything resembling a play, so it was an entirely new experience for her. She and Lavinia had sat in orchestra seats, and the show had been magical – no pun intended. Of course, it was also extremely sad – Les Misérables wasn’t exactly a fortuitous title – but Georgie was no stranger to sad things. It was nice to see there were actually people who had it worse than her, even if those people were entirely fictional.
After the show, Georgie milled about with Lavinia, waiting for Professor Stephandis to come out from backstage. When the professor waved, Georgie lifted her arm in return, and was glad to see that the professor was making her way towards them. “No offense, Professor, but I don’t think this is the kind of show you’re supposed to enjoy.” Georgie said with a slight smirk. “But you were great!” She added brightly, a counterpoint to the rather gloomy tone of most of the show.

Calliope laughed merrily at Georgie's comment. "You have quite a good point Georgiana, the title alone should give away that this show isn't going to be about rainbows and smiles," she agreed. "Although there are shows like Cabaret that have quite dark undertones you wouldn't expect from the titles," she added. She had never gotten to star in Cabaret, but the show was definitely on her bucket list. A few of her theater friends had been keen on the idea as well; perhaps next summer she'd be able to perform as Sally Bowles next time. She clapped her hands together "Right, how would you ladies like to come backstage to meet some of the cast?" she suggested with another smile.

Georgie nodded as her teacher talked about musicals with unexpected undertones. She didn’t really understand her monologue due to her general musical theatre illiteracy, but it was still nice to pretend like she was agreeing with what Professor Stephanidis was saying. At the offer to go backstage, Georgie balked. She wasn’t used to interacting with adults who weren’t professors or orphanage staffers, and she wasn’t used to interacting with Muggles. Interacting with people who were both didn’t seem like a good time, but the professor seemed so pleased…“Sure, I guess.” Georgie said with a shrug, turning to Lavinia to see what she had to say. Maybe the other girl wouldn't want to go and Georgie could eke her way out of it.

Lavinia. loved. plays. End of story. And the fact that one of her Professors was able to perform in one, AND invited her and Georgiana?! Well, it was a dream come true. Lavinia felt like she was on cloud nine. She and Xavier had made up a week ago, and now she had a chance to see a truly magnificent play. She'd been so caught up in it all that when it was over, Liv almost cried. Yes, it was a sad play, but they were more like 'Why is it over?!' tears.
Liv wasn't even paying attention when their professor found them. She'd been so caught up, wandering about, talking to the other performers, asking them to sign her program, that she didn't even notice her teacher's appearance until a few moments later. She quickly turned back, hurrying over. "Sorry! I got distracted!" She held the program tightly to her chest as if it was the most important piece of paper in the world. She came back just in time to hear her teacher's offer. She was positively beaming at the offer. "Oh could we?!" Well, that was a yes, no doubt about it.

Calliope clapped her hands together when both agreed, though she noticed that Georgianna had been a little hesitant in saying yes. She knew the young Hufflepuff lived in an orphanage during the summer months, but it was run by wizards which means she doubted she had much interaction with Muggles. She put a hand gently on Georgie's shoulder and gave her a kind smile. "Don't worry, theatre people are some of the most friendly sort you'll ever meet," she told her reassuringly. Placing herself in the middle, she guided the two girls back towards the dressing rooms of the actors, who normally would gather in the Muggle playing Javert's dressing room for post-show snacks and drinks. "As a reminder ladies, they think I work abroad in Scotland, but they obviously don't know I'm a witch. We'll just say that your vocal students of mine," she let them know gently. She hated having to lie to her fabulous costars, but the law was the law.
She knocked twice and entered the dressing room where indeed several of the cast members had already gathered. They greeted Callie with a cheer, and she cheered them right back, picking up three bottles of water and handing two of them to the girls. "Friends, I'd like you to meet Lavinia and Georgiana, two vocal students of mine who came to the performance tonight. Be nice!" she introduced, throwing the last bit in as a joke. Her costars laughed and greeted the girls enthusiastically. So what can you tell us about Miss Stephanidis' job in Scotland? one costar asked, and Callie chuckled. He was the nosy one of the bunch, always trying to wheedle more details out, but Callie had stood her ground so far, and she figured her students would too.

Lavinia’s answer wasn’t what Georgie had hoped it would be; the Ravenclaw girl was a definitive yes to going backstage, and seemed excited by the whole prospect. Still, Professor Stephanidis had picked up on some of Georgie’s apprehension, and assured the girl that she would be meeting some of the finest, friendliest faces that the Muggle world had to offer. The Hufflepuff girl nodded silently when the professor reminded them that they weren’t students of hers from a Wizarding school, but rather just vocal students from her job in Scotland. She couldn’t help but feel like she was a child hiding behind her mother when they entered into the room where the cast was assembled. Georgie took the bottle of water, but didn’t open it. The last thing she needed was to have a vision in front of all of these Muggles.
“She’s a good teacher.” Was all Georgie managed to get out in response to the man’s question. She was painfully aware that her American accent stuck out like a sore thumb even more amongst these actors, who all had virtually the same London accent. She hated that she had suddenly transformed from Georgie, the sharp-tongued and somewhat jaded orphan into Georgie, the shy and definitely soft-spoken…girl with parents. She was still working on the whole parents bit, had even considered talking to the professor about it, but didn’t know how to say it. She had kept the news of her parents’ return to her lives quite for a while now, so what was a little more silence going to do?
