hello there, my name is Chantal Dembélé but you can call me Chantal. I'm 17 so that makes me a visiting Beauxbatons 7th year at Hogwarts, where I think that I would reside in Gryffindor House. You could say I'm brave, daring, and chivalrous, but I personally think that I am motivated, resilient, and kind. People say I look a lot like Karidja Touré, but I don't really see it...

Chantal is 5’7” tall with an average build. She has dark skin, brown eyes, and dark hair, which she wears relaxed, allowing it to fall past her shoulder blades. Both of her earlobes are pierced twice. Her left front tooth overlaps her right one, which helps to distinguish her in her Animagus form, that of a common genet.
Outside of her Beauxbatons uniform, Chantal tries to follow Muggle fashion trends. Hailing from a city such as Paris, she finds Muggle fashions difficult to ignore, and has adopted some of their styles in her everyday life. On the whole, she prefers blouses and trousers for the practicality, though she doesn’t mind getting dressed up in the slightest.

personality
likes:
Competition, warm weather, fashion, reading, Muggle culture, her mother’s cooking, Transfiguration, hair potions, wandless magic, waking up early
dislikes:
Being alone, the smell of smoke, Arithmancy, her natural hair, dogs, cheating, sleeping in, the cold, blood prejudice, getting insects on her fur in Animagus form
erised:
Chantal’s greatest goal is to win the Triwizard Tournament, and, if she were to look into the Mirror of Erised, she would also see her late brother, Youssouf, standing beside her. Once she is finished with her education, she plans to return to France to study Transfiguration.
amortentia:
Ginger, peanut butter, and jasmine
boggart:
Even more than her own death, Chantal’s greatest fear is disappointing her parents.
overall personality:
Kind enough to seem meek upon first meeting her, Chantal has no problem with being underestimated. She is confident enough in her abilities that this hardly bothers her; she knows what she can do, and she doesn’t need to resort to underhanded tactics to get herself where she wants to go. Call it foolish of her, perhaps, but she feels that being courteous towards others—simply for the sake of being a decent person—is hardly a bad thing.
Like the Gryffindors at Hogwarts, Chantal’s pride in her own abilities can cause her to be haughty at times. She tries to be aware of her behavior, knowing that it reflects poorly on her, though it has a tendency to creep up when she least expects it. She doesn’t look down on others intentionally, however, and isn’t above apologizing if she is called out for doing or saying something out of line.
Having lost her older brother in a tragic accident when she was fourteen, Chantal is very empathetic towards those who have suffered similar losses. Although she has been able to move past her brother’s death and come out of the situation a much stronger person, she feels the need to carry on his legacy as well as her own. Making her parents proud of her is very important to Chantal, especially because she is their surviving child.

history:
Born and raised in the heart of Paris, France, to Senegalese immigrant parents, Chantal Dembélé had a relatively normal upbringing—for a young witch, that is. Growing up, her older brother, Youssouf, was her role model in nearly everything that she did. Eight years older than she, Youssouf was their parents’ pride and joy: a brilliant young boy who grew into a handsome and capable young man. By the time that Chantal started her own schooling at Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, she knew that she had big shoes to fill.
Like her brother, Chantal proved herself to be subtle yet powerful with a wand and motivated in the classroom—enough to remove any doubt that she was Youssouf Dembélé’s sister. Living in the shadow of her sibling suited her just fine, but she always knew that she was destined for bigger and better things. Those plans were suddenly put on hold, however, when Chantal was fourteen, and Youssouf, who had been working as a Curse-Breaker in Africa, was suddenly killed as a result of an ancient jinx placed on one of the sites at which he was working. Devastated by the death of her beloved brother, Chantal pushed herself even harder to become someone of whom he would have been proud.
At fifteen, she began to plead with her father, a skilled Animagus and alumnus of Uagadou, to teach her how to become an Animagus herself. Although the ability to turn into a leopard—as her father could—was hardly useful in a city such as Paris, Chantal had always found it fascinating. Her father agreed that he would teach her, but, in the meantime, Chantal would have to keep her marks up at school and wait until the following summer, when she would be able to devote herself to acquiring the skill. It was quite the process, although Chantal was ultimately delighted to find that she took on the same form as her Patronus: a common genet.
Finishing her sixth year at Beauxbatons, Chantal made very good scores on her examinations, and she was eagerly making plans for her final year of school. To her surprise, however, she was among the students chosen to represent Beauxbatons as part of the school’s delegation to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for the upcoming Triwizard Tournament. Because of her father's position in the International Confederation of Wizards, Chantal had heard about the terrible events that had happened in Britain. There were the two dead Ministers for Magic and abducted Hogwarts students, not to mention those who had been murdered when they should have been safe. She didn't want to believe that such things were possible in France—that they could happen at Beauxbatons—but it could have happened anywhere, even her own school. Besides, competing in the Triwizard Tournament was dangerous, itself. Determined to represent Beauxbatons to the best of her ability, Chantal has arrived to Hogwarts this September, prepared to take the challenges as they come.
