Mathias was sat on their bed alone in the room with legs crossed over one another. Spread out on the bed were several papers, a large book, a quill and ink well, (balanced on a different book of equally daunting size.) a notebook and pen, and a few rolls of parchment. Behind them, on the pillow, lounged Devon, their large grey cat. Mathias had been studying for over an hour. The notebook had several pages filled with scribbles and script to show for it.
They straightened their back, which ached from sitting hunched over papers for so long. They turned to look at their bedside table, a new mystery novel that their father had sent sat temptingly, but Mathias was resolved to at least finish the essay before digging into it. They looked back to the papers sadly, but soon determination burned in their hazel eyes.
They lifted their arms above their head and as they bent back to stretch the door opened. Their back let out a loud popping noise from the action as Theodosia entered the room.

Theodosia hated her roommates. She hated most of the students of Hogwarts, of course, but she especially hated her roommates. There was the freak who couldn’t decide on a gender and the daughter of a werewolf, and Theodosia was supposed to sleep with them around! It was a disgrace, especially considering they had all been put in Slytherin. Theo could admit that the Gryeback girl had at least some of the house’s characteristics, but the freak seemed more like a Ravenclaw with the way it was always studying. Theodosia hated it, and made every effort to make sure it knew at every possible moment.
Blowing into the room, Theodosia took one look at Mathias and then wrinkled her nose in disgust. “Accio notebook.” She said carelessly, summoning the notebook that the freak had been writing in. Useless notes, probably, since it was so stupid. “I can’t believe that I’m stuck with you again.” Theodosia fumed. “Do you have anything to say for yourself, or will I have to tear your notes apart so that you’ll actually admit to being a freak?” Theo had an idea of how this confrontation would end – even if Mathias did admit to being a freak, the notes would still end in shreds.

Mathias sighed and glared at their antagonizing room mate. They made a mental note to keep their writings in a pen rather than on paper next time. They were used to her petty attacks, and had prepared before hand for something like this. "Washington, lovely to see your sneering face so early in the afternoon. Please give me back my notebook before you regret it." They said in monotone. It was a fair warning.
Mathias kept their face carefully blank and uninterested, the venom in their gaze from before dying down. "Unless, of course you're going to use my notes to study. You're grades might actually go somewhere if you did." They said flippantly. So maybe laying bait was kind of contradictory to the purpose of a warning, but Theodosia should know better than to mess with other slytherin students.

The one thing that Theodosia actually liked about bullying the freak was that it always fought back. It was just all the more satisfying when Theo inevitably won. “Now, why would I give your notebook back?” Theodosia asked, faking innocence. “You haven’t done what I asked yet, and your notebook isn’t ripped, either. That really isn’t fair to me, Matty. I did make you a promise.” With that, Theodosia smiled, and made the first rip, tearing a sheet of paper from the notebook’s binding. The ripping sound was satisfying, but what would be even more satisfying was the look on Mathias’s face when it realized that Theodosia was actually going through with her threat.
She let out a laugh when Mathias tried to make a jab at her grades. Theodosia was too knowledgeable about Transfiguration and Charms to believe that she was stupid in the conventional sense of the word. She didn’t need to steal anyone else’s notes to get ahead – she was already a speck in the distance when it came to most of her classmates. “Funny, I was under the impression that only stupid people like you had to study.” Theodosia said with a smile. She took the sheet that she had ripped from the notebook’s binding and then ripped it in half. “What are you going to do now, freak? Cry home to mommy?”

Mathias Clenched their jaw at the rips, but made a show of rolling their eyes after. Theodosia's arrogance and cruelty was enough to make her the second coming of Voldemort in their eyes. She seemed to fit all the worst slytherin stereotypes. She had already harmed the book, no chance of it surviving this encounter, but they were okay with that for now. "I'm going to study. As I was before you interrupted me." They said, though having to unclench their teeth halfway through. Their pokerface really sucked sometimes, but hopefully it wouldn't give the trap away.
Theodosia was going to seal her own fate, but Mathias was unsure about the inevitable storm after. The look on her face would have to be worth it for now. "Don't you have some friends to go stab in the back? Or did they get to you first and now your taking it out on me?" They said reaching under the bed. They brought back an already open notebook, turned to a new blank page. They looked away from her, wanting to enrage her by pretending to go back to studying.
The cat, Devon, made it's way out of the room.

When Mathias announced that it was going to study, Theodosia rolled her eyes. How funny. She took another piece of paper, and tore it in half, too. Another sheet of notes destroyed, hopefully a little fire added to the one she was building underneath Mathias. Either the other Slytherin was going to get burned, or it was going to attack, and make Theodosia actually look like the better person in the situation. Theo didn’t know which scenario she wanted to come to pass more. She was just going to keep prodding and see where that got her to.
Theo actually managed a smile when Mathias asked the question about her friends stabbing her in the back. Sure, they were bitches to everyone else, but to each other, they were just unlikely allies. Theodosia was beneath all of the squabbling between the seventh years, quite literally – when they were pissed with each other, she and Raven just shrugged it off and continued onwards. It was sweet for Mathias to try, though – she was actually taking interest in something that Theodosia loved to do; that was, insult people. “You see, at least I have friends that would stab me in the back.” Theo said with a smile. Rip. Another sheet torn. “You have none. Even your cat doesn’t want to be around you!” Theodosia’s own feline friend, Tutu, was sitting primly on her bed. The cat chose that moment to hiss at Mathias, which Theo couldn’t say came at a better time. Everything was going just splendid!

Mathias startled at the cats hiss and groaned. "Go ahead and tear it up." Mathias didn't have time for friends, not close ones anyways. They couldn't trust anyone for now, as lonely as that existence was. Alas, hogwarts was a strange and dangerous place, slytherin probably even more so. They had to be on guard at all times.
They clicked the pen several times, pretending to read. Their focus was half on gazing at the book and half split between Theodosia and her hellspawn of a cat. The fresh notebook page stared up at them. They wouldn't let her comment get to them for now. They couldn't afford to lose control and panic into a downward spiral. Theodosia would win and Mathias would just be pathetic and lonely.

Mathias giving Theodosia permission to tear up the notebook made the act vastly less satisfying, but she finished the task anyways. She took all of the sheets that had writing on them – and then a few that were blank – and made sure that they were completely obliterated, torn into pieces that couldn’t be reassembled. She’d have to try something else, then. Briefly, Theodosia considered setting the paper on fire, but the risk of the fire accidentally spreading to her bed was too great.
“Accio book.” Theodosia commanded lazily. The freak couldn’t take any more notes if they didn’t have anything to read, could they? Just as the notebook had, the book that Mathias had been reading leapt into her hand. “Would you like this back? Because I already told you what you had to say. Just admit that you’re a freak.” Theo looked at Mathias contemptuously. She wasn’t asking for too much, was she? No, of course not. She never asked too much.

Now Mathias was annoyed in full. They had counted on Theodosia taking and harming the second notebook, but of course she would get bored of that. They looked to her, eyes murderous. "You wanna play? Fine you utter brat!" They fummed standing up and quickly taking their wand out. They pointed the ornate wand at their victim and called out "Immobulus!"
With the victim frozen in place, they walked over and pried the book from her hand. "Hurt something of mine again and I'll return the favor." They threatened. "Now, what kind of fun should I have while the spell is in effect?" They paced and twirled around her, a smug grin plastered on their face. They shouldn't go over board, lest they get in trouble. So spells and jinxes were out. They eyed the ink pot and gave a wicked smile.
"Washington, you have the clumsiest cat." They smiled. Mathias picked the inkwell up and looked to Theodosia's own school materials. Then to her clothes. They moved a couple of shirts and books onto her bedside table, quickly so they could finish the deed and flee the room before the spell wore off. Then they placed the well on top of it all, and tipped it over. Ink poured down staining everything a deep green. "You really shouldn't leave something set up so precariously, Washington." They snickered.
They quickly gathered everything they didn't want destroyed and made to leave the room. Theodosia would be able to move again in mere seconds!

One thing that half-blood scum never thought about was the fact that Theodosia never worked alone. As much as Mathias could fake that Theodosia’s cat was clumsy, Tutu was actually an extremely possessive animal, and he was big. Maybe the spell hadn’t worn off of Theodosia, but Tutu had never been restrained, and he was positively livid that his owner was being treated in such a manner. The cat launched himself at Mathias’s retreating figure, aiming his claws for Mathias’s calf. The next moment, when Theodosia was able to move again, she quickly cast a Scourgify charm on all of the clothes. The papers had, luckily been blank, and the ink hadn’t had time to soak through the book cover, which was just as effectively cleaned with the Scourgify. Theodosia grabbed the ink pot, which was still oozing green, and hurled it towards Mathias’s retreating form. See how the freak enjoyed having shards of glass embedded into her back, hmm? Hopefully that, along with the injuries from Tutu’s claws, would remind Mathias that Theodosia was no regular bully. She didn’t stop just because her victim fled, and she certainly never stopped because they fought back. If anything, that made her inevitable victory that much sweeter. Theodosia would let Mathias leave, though – she was going to need the hospital wing pretty badly, if her predictions were anything to go by. With that in mind, Theodosia sat back on her bed and used another quick cleaning charm to wash the ink from her hands. All the evidence of any altercation was gone. It wasn’t like the teachers could punish her because Mathias had taunted her cat, and Theodosia wasn’t the one who had immobilized another student. Once again, she was going to get off scot-free.
