Brandon decided it was time to lighten the mood. Winking at her, he said, "Well I guess better late than never, right? Go ahead and tell me about yourself, Addilyn. I already know you like singing and dragons and animals. So ... what do you like to do in your spare time? What is your favorite thing about Hogwarts? Tell me your life story." He ended in a smile, hoping that he wasn't creeping her out. He was really just curious. He couldn't believe he never saw her in choir and he felt like they kind of ... connected. He wanted to talk to her some more, keep the conversation going. So that's what he did.

@brandon <3 Addilyn managed to laugh slightly at Brandon's comment. He wanted to know about her? She shrugged. "I was born on Halloween, it's my mum's favorite holiday. I love French toast, and flowers, and the color yellow. And I enjoy swimming, dancing, and I'm a Beater on the Slytherin team." Addi wasn't sure what else there was to tell, other than her family. "I've got my older brother, obviously, and then I've also got an older sister, Claire. She's an auror."

He smiled when he made her laugh. He liked her laugh, even when it was quiet and seemed somehow hidden. He was sure he would like it even more when she really meant it. Someday ... maybe, he would be with her while she experienced that. He would like that. His smile widened when she started telling him about herself. "That's a long list. And you're a Beater? How long have you been doing that?" Brandon couldn't believe he'd never noticed this girl before. He loved Quidditch and apparently she played! He didn't play himself, but he followed Quidditch very closely. "What house was your sister in?" he asked curiously. Did he know her sister?

@brandon <3 Addi moved her head from side to side, thinking. How long had she been on the team? She scrunched up her nose and looked at Brandon. "I think my third or fourth year? I'm not positive. But I've loved Quidditch for a long time." Addi smiled gently, thinking of her first talk about Quidditch to Edmund. He had been so shocked, yet so excited about it all. "And she was a Gryffindor. She's 21, so she's been out for four years now...you would've been a third year her seventh year. You may know her." Addi shrugged, most people knew Claire, unfortunately.

Brandon smiled wryly, hardly able to believe that he really hadn't noticed her before this. How? He must have been really focused on Callie and who-knows-what-else? "Are you kidding? How have I not seen you before? Wait ... you don't remember me at all, do you?" Maybe she totally knew him, and here he was being completely ignorant. Ugh, he needed to change the subject or something, but he didn't know how. What else could he ask her?
He thought hard for a moment, "I don't remember your sister," he told her eventually, "but I never really did much around Gryffindors when I was younger. Do you know Callie and Jude Abrams? We're family ... kind of," he volunteered, wondering at the same time if he just made it awkward. Oh well.

@brandon <3 Addilyn shook her head, slightly embarrassed. Usually she was pretty good with names and faces, and while he did look familiar, she wouldn't have been able to pick him out in a crowd just using his name. "No...I'm sorry. You are familiar, but I can't spot where I know you from, but I'm assuming choir."
Brandon then mentioned Callie and her eyes lit up. Addi nodded. "Yes! I've got a few classes with her. She's pretty sweet. I've never met Jude, what year and house is he?" Addilyn assumed he was younger, and not a Slytherin. She tended to know the majority of Slytherin house and there was no Jude in her common room... that she knew about at least. Brandon confused her when he said they were 'kind of' family, but she didn't comment on it. He'd tell her if he was comfortable.

Brandon gave a wry smile, "Yeah, probably choir. So ... what do you want to talk about now?" He asked. He wasn't going to leave, but he was running out of conversation ideas so he thought maybe she could help him out with that.
He smiled when Addi nodded excitedly. He wasn't surprised. Most people that knew Callie liked her and got along well with her. Honestly, she and Addilyn seemed like pretty similar people, with similar personalities. He couldn't help but smile when he thought about Callie. "She is, unless you make her angry," he crinkled his nose at the thought of it. When she wanted, Callie did have quite a temper. "Jude is in Hufflepuff, a fourth year." Brandon sighed. He might as well explain things to her. Maybe it would help to get things off his check. "They're my adopted siblings. It's weird. I mean, I don't know how to act around them ..." Did that make sense? He wasn't really sure, but he didn't know what else to say.

@brandon <3 When Brandon asked her what she wanted to talk about Addilyn rose an eyebrow. She didn't know they were ... well, playing a game, is what it seemed like to her. She made a face as she thought. That was an unusual question..."Hm...what kind of music do you play?"
Addi laughed quietly. Most people were that way, well, except her. She could get mad of course, but it was very rare. Addilyn was pretty positive the only time she's ever gotten mad was quite recently, when she punched her older brother. Other than that, she maintained a pretty calm personality. "I definitely don't know Jude, but I'll try to! Hufflepuff's are always fun people." She smiled. This then made her think of Kyle, and she felt a small pang in her heart, but she let it go. He wasn't important to her anymore, Edmund was. But there'd always be that small part of her that missed him.
"Well, I'd assume you'd just act like a brother, right? There isn't really anything else to act like, they're your siblings, so you'd treat them as such." She smiled gently, hoping that helped and didn't offend him.

Brandon couldn't help but laugh when she made a face at him. "Or I could leave ..." he jumped in before she could speak, gesturing to the door with his hand. He didn't think she'd tell him to leave though. Her question came out almost immediately after he finished speaking. He smiled, "I play the piano so I like classical, but I also write my own sometimes."
"Jude is really cool," he commented with a smiled. She seemed to be a bit distracted, so he didn't expound at all. He didn't want to bother her or something. Even though he probably bothered her when he started the conversation, interrupting her reading ...
"You're right. I guess it's just weird because most siblings know one another and are close and we get along most of the time, but ... it's not like that." Why was he still talking about this with her? He just needed to stop, but he couldn't seem to shut his mouth. He bit his lip, nervous that he said too much.

@brandon <3 Addilyn's eyes widened and she let go of her book and held up both hands in shock. "Oh no! I'm sorry! I hadn't meant for you to be upset! I was just...amused." She smiled apologetically at him, hoping he understood. Brandon just seemed to be joking, thankfully, and Addi let her hands fall. "Oh, classical! I don't play any instruments, I wish I did though."
Addi tilted her head and scrunched up her nose again. "Hm...what do you mean? Why wouldn't it be the same?" She felt like she might be prying too much, but this is what Addilyn Slater did. She helped people, and if Brandon needed help, well hell, here she was! She may as well attempt to make him feel better.

He grinned, laughing when she dropped her book and explained that she didn't mean she wanted him to leave. "That's what I thought," he teased her with a smile. He loved playing around with people like that and was glad that she responded the way he expected. "Well if you ever need someone to accompany you while you sing, I'll be offended if you don't ask me. I can play anything." It was a big thing to say, but it was true. Brandon was very good at what he did, at the piano. Just because he hadn't touched it in months didn't mean he lost all his talent. Playing the piano came easily to him.
Brandon's eyebrows furrowed as he tried to think of a way to explain. He opened the can of worms, so it was his job to explain now. Either that or be extremely rude to her, but he didn't want to do that. He had no intention of leaving her with a bad impression of him. Then again, he didn't want to tell her about Callie. She was the one girl he'd felt anything for since he met Callie. Would telling her scare her away? He looked down to his hands before he started talking. "Well, we're not siblings. Actually, the problem isn't with Jude. He and I get along just fine, it's Callie. I just ... I can't be around her." Oh, he did it now. Might as well get it out. "She and I ... I feel things for her that I shouldn't. Not since she's my sister. It's not right." The corners of his lips turned up as he raised his eyes to Addilyn's. "You're the first person I've talked to about this, actually."

@brandon <3 Addilyn narrowed her eyes at him but she couldn't help the smile that reached her face. "Oh, stop it." Addi turned towards Brandon more and tilted her head once he spoke again and she laughed. "You'll be offended? Well, don't worry. I'll ask you. I haven't sang in awhile, though." Generally with the choir club they'd meet up once a week, but they haven't so far this year even though she was quite excited to.
Addilyn listened intently to Brandon, and many thoughts were running through her head. She wasn't too knowledgeable about the adoption process, so there were questions concerning that that were running through her head. And suddenly, Brandon made the old Addilyn appear. "How long ago was she adopted? Did you and your family know you were going to adopt her? How long have you had feelings, and were they present before she was adopted?" Addi began spewing out questions, and her face turned a bright pink when she finished, and because Brandon said he'd never spoken to anyone about it before. It actually made her laugh. "A lot of people say that to me, actually. I'm...well, the person to go to for advice or if you need a laugh, generally."

"Why not?" Brandon couldn't help but ask when she said that she hadn't sung in a long time. "We should go find a piano now and remedy that," he said with a sly smile. It wasn't really his goal to leave the library, but he wanted to hear her sing. Even if it meant he had to play the piano, which he hadn't done in a really long time. Still ... something about Addilyn Slater made him sort of want to play again, odd as that was. He couldn't explain it, not even to himself.
Then questions seemed to explode out of her and Brandon tried to answer them all, but he might have missed one here or there. "Umm ... we didn't know we were going to adopt her. She was living with us as a foster child with her brother and we were sure we would adopt him, but there were complications with her. We didn't think it would work out. But then it did and before I really knew what happened, she became my sister. And yes, I had feelings for her before she was adopted, but I don't really know how long." As he spoke, his expression became more serious and focused as he tried to remember more details, not that he was going to explain everything in detail. It just kind of happened. Then she laughed, pulling him out of his thoughts and he smiled again. "Well I'm not sure if I need advice about it, but I'm glad you listened to me."

@brandon <3 Her eyebrows raised and she laughed gently. Addi shrug when she spoke again. "I'm not sure, actually. Just had a very fast summer and it wasn't the first thing on my mind, is all." Addi sang in the shower sometimes, but she hadn't actually sat down and done any breathing techniques or anything these past few months. "Now? You want to now?" Addilyn knew where there was a piano, not too far from here, but that was definitely not what she had been expecting him to say.
She listened to him answer all of her questions with a small smile. Addi began to understand what he had meant, it was making more sense now. She wasn't sure how to fix something like that...unless they broke all rules of adoption or they just let their feelings for one another disappear. "Well of course I listen, I listen to everyone. I'm glad you felt comfortable enough to share all of that with me, Brandon."

Brandon grinned at Addilyn's surprise, "Yeah, now. Unless you're busy or you don't want to ..." he trailed off, waiting for her response. It was interesting. He hadn't played in months, but he was voluntarily suggesting he play for her now. What about her was doing this to him? Brandon hadn't felt this calm in forever.
She didn't have anything to say to him about his situation. Not that there was much to be said. He liked someone he shouldn't and he was basically going to have to get over that somehow. Good luck with that ... though it did seem to be working right now, for who knows what reasons? He shrugged when she thanked him, "Thank you for listening. I haven't had anyone listen to me like that in a while." Callie would listen to him, but he wouldn't talk with her about this. It would hurt her, which was not what he wanted to do.
