dinner. jake was a horrible cook. he had tried though and it hadn't gone well. he had just gotten the smoke detector in the apartment to stop beeping and making his dogs bark, it had to be hell on their ears, so thankfully it was quiet again. but dinner was burnt. and he had gone for something simple. who couldn't make spaghetti and meatballs? apparently him. he sighed as he opened the window of his kitchen and started trying to waft the burnt smell and smoke out of the room. he had the table all set for two, flowers in the middle and wine sitting in a bucket. so much for the evening to sweep her off her feet. he grabbed his phone as he waved the dishcloth at the window and he dialed the number of his local pizza place. ordering something he hoped odette would like he hung up. ah the wonders of enjoying both a muggle world and a wizarding world. he jumped when there was a knock at his door and he winced a little when his dogs took off, jester leading the pack with the pups following behind. he folded the towel and sat it on the sink, straightening his shirt and he waded his way through the dogs to open the door. "odette! hi!" he said with a grin as he bent to scoop up callie and kodex as they tried to rush out the door past odette's feet.

After their last date in had gone so well, Odette found herself over-the-top excited to attend a dinner date at Jacob's house. Odette was excited to see how he lived when no one else was around. As she approached the door to his apartment, Odette hesitated before knocking on the door. Not because she was nervous, but because she was too excited. She could not remember the last time she felt this excited for anything before. There was a part of her that made a note to talk about this feeling with Jamie later. It was still weird to think she finally was getting along with her half-sister. Finally, after taking a moment to herself to breathe and get the excited gitters out, Odette knocked on the door.

The sound of barking surprised Odette, though it made her smile all the while. She thought she could smell something burning, too... When Jacob opened the door, Odette was already grinning. "Hi," she said, grinning like an idiot as she watched Jacob bend down to pick up two of his dogs. "Aww," she cooed at the dogs in his arms. "Trying to escape?" She joked with the dogs then looked back up with Jacob. It was weird; he seemed to have this effect on her where more often than not, she found herself somewhat speechless.

"Aww, Trying to escape?" jake grinned and nodded slightly, still holding the squirming pups in his arm as he used his knee to block jester from trying to rush forward and jump up at odette. he smiled slightly and used his elbow to open the door a little wider so she could come in. "it's a daily thing for them. when the door opens they rush to it" he chuckled as he nuzzled his nose against callie's ears gently and he moved to close the door once odette had stepped inside. he bent down to set the pups on the floor, watching them clamber all around odette and trying to jump up at her legs. "sorry about them .. they'll settle i hope" he said with a laugh as he leaned forward to kiss her cheek softly. "i hope you like pizza"

Odette wore a bright smile as she watched Jacob nuzzling the two pups in his arms. She had been so excited at the prospect of coming over and seeing where he lived that she actually forgot she had some... well, pressing news for him. And remembering that fact made her a little more nervous. She let out a chuckle to cover up that little emotion. "Oh, I bet they make great guard dogs, then!" She commented in response. Odette had never had a dog growing up, but having one that would rush to the door when someone came knocking didn't sound too bad.

When Jacob planted a little kiss on her cheek, Odette's smile widened. "I love pizza," she replied happily. There. Pizza would make this news... better.

"Oh, I bet they make great guard dogs, then!" he laughed and nodded his head slightly. the did in a way really. though not in the way of a typical guard dog, though callie and kodex were too small to really make much of a difference right now but when they grew they would. "yeah, anyone who breaks in will be pinned to the floor and licked to death" he said with a small smile as he watched the three dogs clamber and scatter around the floor around them. "I love pizza," he smiled and nodded slightly. well that was a relief. "that's great! it should be here in about twenty minutes" he said with a sheepish smile and waved his hand to close the door to the kitchen so she couldn't see the mess he had made in there trying to cook. he stepped back and moved into the small dining room that was attached to the kitchen and he moved to pull out a seat for her. "i have some wine if you'd like?" he asked her quickly.

Odette grinned as Jacob spoke about his dogs. Odette had never really been a huge dog fan, but she was rather fond of Jacob's pups so far. They seemed very loving... probably because they had such a lovely, caring father looking after them. That thought made Odette smile a little bit wider to herself. Jacob could take care of three dogs like a pro. That had to mean he would be good with a real baby... right?

"Good! I'm... actually starving," Odette said with a little laugh. She hadn't realized until she spoke just how hungry she was. She patted her stomach, just thinking of the pizza she was about to consume. She was eating for two now, after all. It was only natural for her to be so hungry. Odette smiled at Jacob as he pulled out a seat for her and she sat down. She really liked having these "dates" at home like they had these last few times. When Odette had dated in the past, she had never really brought anyone home for dinner before. It was always just... for other stuff. But with Jacob, it was so easy to just hang out and have a nice meal and talk. Even if last time it had led to... other stuff.

Speaking of other stuff, when Jacob offered Odette the wine she was suddenly brought back to reality. "Uh, I'm okay," she said a little awkwardly. "Actually... I needed to talk to you about something. To tell you something, rather..." She spoke slowly and awkwardly. It wasn't really like Odette to not be able to find the right words she wanted to say. But this was a big thing... and it was hard to spit out.

"Good! I'm... actually starving," he was glad she was hungry! he was starving so he couldn't wait for the pizza to get there. he just really hoped she didn't think too much about the number of pizza's he had ordered. he think he'd ended up getting five. he hadn't been able to think of a pizza that would work for whatever tastes she had so in the last minute rush he had ordered the ones that sounded like they were the basic ones. he hadn't meant to order five but they were coming. it was a good thing they wouldn't go to waste. if he didn't eat them he'd always send some over to jonah and his room mate luke. both of them would be able to devour the ones him and odette couldn't eat. "Uh, I'm okay, Actually... I needed to talk to you about something. To tell you something, rather..." he nodded slightly as he stepped closer to her without meaning too. he was just a little worried. the tone of voice, the change in her in that split second had him a little concerned. it wasn't anything bad he was just worried about the news she might have to tell him. "okay .. tell me" he said softly as he reached out to touch her arm. "you can tell me anything"

As Jacob stepped closer to her, Odette felt a surge in confidence she hadn't had moments ago. It was like he was all she needed in order to have the strength to tell him what she needed to tell him. Then he touched her arm and she felt a chill there, almost like goosebumps when he touched her. She looked up at him and blinked nervously. Of course, there was never an easier way to say this than just to get it over with in one quick confession. So, Odette took in a sharp breath and then looked Jacob right in the eyes, unblinking. "I'm... pregnant."

"I'm... pregnant." he felt his heart stop. she was pregnant. pregnant. a baby. they were going to have a baby? how could they have a baby. sure they had been friends for years but they were still new .. really new. he rubbed his hand down her arm before pulling it back to run it through his hair and then over his face as he blew out a breath. "a baby .." he said quietly as if to himself as he smiled slightly and looked at her. "you're sure?" he said as he took a step closer, taking a small breath to calm the panic that had started to rise. he wasn't the panic type, he didn't have freak outs when plans changed. he reached to touch her arm again and he looked at her face, reaching his other hand to lay it against her cheek softly, smiling gently at her.

Odette felt like closing her eyes so she wouldn't have to see Jacob's reaction, but she couldn't bring herself to. Instead, she looked at him and bit the inside of her lip very anxiously. When he ran his hand down her arm, she felt goosebumps... both from his touch and because of her nerves. He ran his hands through his hair and... was he smiling? "I - I - I'm," she took a deep breath to regain her composure and stood up taller. "I'm sure." She said. Then Jacob's hand was on her cheek and he was smiling again and suddenly Odette felt so at ease. A smile began to slowly spread across her own face. This was real, and though they were still new to the whole dating thing, they had been friends for years. And if two best friends couldn't raise a baby together, then who could? "We're going to have a baby." She spoke now and the hysteria was slightly more clear in her voice as it broke slightly, but... she was happy.
