Calliope was excited to be taking over Head of Hufflepuff while Calex stepped into the Deputy Headmaster position. Calex and Callie had been close friends at Hogwarts along with Caroline, and she figured he had probably had something to do with her being elevated into this position of power. She hadn’t gotten to talk to him much though since term had started; classes and their duties that came along with it had kept both super busy. Finally though, she was able to spare a moment and headed over to his office with double chocolate chip cookies and a bottle of coffee liqueur. She knew his son would love them too so she had made extra for Blaise. Stopping outside his office, she knocked twice. “Does the Deputy Headmaster have time to see the Head of Hufflepuff?” she called, trying not to laugh. It was a funny thing, them ending up working together. Calex had had a rough few years back when Blaise was young. She remembered hearing from Calex’s parents about Riley’s death; she had been in Japan at the time performing at a gala, but she had rushed back the next day to help out in any way she could. He seemed a little better now; more and more of the old Calex that was her best friend shined through. But she knew there were days when it all seemed too much.

“Does the Deputy Headmaster have time to see the Head of Hufflepuff?” he'd heard the knock but it was the voice coming from the other side of the door that had his smiling. callie. they had been good friends in school and now they were working together. it was odd how many people he'd gone to school with now worked at the school. caroline, chloe and callie. it hadn't slipped his mind that all of their names started with c's either. he chuckled at the thought and moved to open the door to let her in, the smell of chocolate hit his nose and he almost groaned. she was famous for those cookies, at least in his family. "i'll always have time for you callie. and those cookies" he said with a laugh as he let the door close as she came into the room. he saw she had a bottle as well and he moved to get some glasses from a cupboard. "what brings you by, oh wise head of hufflepuff" their former house. he had been head of that house last year too, but he'd stepped into being the deputy headmaster when neville had needed someone.

Calliope beamed as Calex opened the door; she knew her cookies would work. “Good to hear Calex,” she said happily as she came in and sat down. She poured the liqueur into the two glasses Calex had set out and held her glass up to his. “Cheers!” she said, clinking glasses with him before taking a sip. She took a cookie and ate it; they were quite good, she really had done well with this batch. She swallowed before answering him about why she was there. “Can’t a girl come see her friend with cookies without having a specific reason?” she asked, pouting a little. Of course there’d been another reason for her arrival; after her chat with Neville, she knew she wanted to chat with Calex more about the Hufflepuffs, as up until this year he had been their Head of House. “I did want to know from you if there’s anything you wanted to talk about with some of the Hufflepuff students? I know Georgianna Linley’s parents, for example, have turned up again after having disappeared for a few years,” she said, taking another cookie.

“Cheers!” he smiled and took the glass and raised it to hers slightly before taking a sip of the drink. “Can’t a girl come see her friend with cookies without having a specific reason?” he laughed and took one of the cookies, settling down onto the couch in his room and he shook his head. taking a bite of one of the cookies he closed his eyes while he ate it. swallowing it with a sip of the drink he looked at her. "no. you cannot" he said, teasing as he patted the couch next to him. "join me" he said as he shifted and leaned his arm on the back of the couch, the stem of his glass resting on his thigh. “I did want to know from you if there’s anything you wanted to talk about with some of the Hufflepuff students? I know Georgianna Linley’s parents, for example, have turned up again after having disappeared for a few years,” ah yes. he'd been aware of that. he didn't have any advice for her, not that there was something that would always work in that respect. "i heard that. the only thing you can do for her is be there for her. let her know she has an adult on her side even if her parents aren't. but other than that .. i don't think there are any issues with the students. you'll need to keep an eye on georgie's brother too" he said, sipping the drink again.

Calliope gave him a smile as she crossed over to join him on the couch. She rested her back against the seat and propped her feet up on the table. “Yes, I suppose that is all I can do in this case,” she said, swirling the contents in her glass aimlessly. She chuckled at the mention of Lance. “Lance doesn’t need anyone watching out for him; he’s one that I’ve never been worried about the three years I’ve been here,” she said with a smile. Calex was right of course; being reintroduced to parents you thought had been dead the past five years wouldn’t be easy for either Linley sibling.
She sighed a little and pressed her hand over her eyes for a moment. “Okay, okay no more work talk,” she told him, taking another sip of her drink. She reached over and picked up another cookie, munching on it thoughtfully. “Are you expecting Blaise to stop by anytime tonight?” she asked him curiously, an eyebrow arched.

“Okay, okay no more work talk, Are you expecting Blaise to stop by anytime tonight?” he raised a brow and the corner of his mouth into that of a light smirk and he brought the glass to his lip and took a sip of it, taking his time to answer her question. they had been tiptoeing around with each other for a little while now. she was in luck though, he wasn't expecting blaise again tonight. he'd come around before to talk to his dad about quidditch but he had plans with some of his friends that night according to his son. "not unless he turns up without me expecting" which had happened on occasion. rather than going to the hospital wing when he was ill blaise still seemed to prefer to come to his quarters, which calex wasn't going to try and put a stop to it. it would be all too soon when blaise wanted to spend as little time as possible with him and he was dreading that day. it was already starting but .. there were still moments. "did you have something in mind?"

Calliope’s eyes didn’t leave Calex’s face, but she returned the smirk she saw forming at his lips. They were certainly not at the stage of their relationship to tell Blaise just yet. Calliope hadn’t even told her best friend, and their coworker. She knew telling Caro would be easier than telling Blaise, but for now Callie was just enjoying it being just the two of them. “I have some ideas,” she said coyly. She set down her glass and scooted closer to Calex, snaking one of her arms through the crook of his elbow. “Most of which involve you, me and not leaving these chambers until late tomorrow morning.” She looked up at him, eyebrow raised. “What do you say to that?” she asked him boldly. It wasn’t as if this was the first time that had happened of course, but Calex was being the coy one tonight, so Calliope had to go bold.

“I have some ideas, Most of which involve you, me and not leaving these chambers until late tomorrow morning.” he folded his hand over the hand she had tucked into the crook of his elbow and he smiled, turning his head toward her he leaned it closer to hers slightly. they had been careful to keep their relationship discreet over the last few months. after all it wasn't exactly an easy situation. he knew if blaise found out it would rattle his son and there was plenty going on at the school, they didn't need the distraction out there in the open, but behind closed doors, only if just for now was the way to go. “What do you say to that?” he smiled a little more and nodded his head slightly. "i say that sounds like a good plan" he said as he reached to put the glass in his hand down and he leaned closer to her again, resting his free hand on her cheek as he leaned down to kiss her.

Callie smiled as he leaned into the kiss; she had thought about kissing Calex for years before it actually had happened. Timing however, had never been her strong suit. He'd married soon after school ended, and when his wife had sadly passed, she had been engaged to another man. But yet their relationship was not meant to last, and finally this past summer, she and Calex had both been single at the same time. It happened one night, after her third performance in Les Miserables, the one where Calex had come to see. Dinner had led to dancing, which led to drinks back at the flat she rented every summer whenever she had a contract to perform on the West End. She had been worried that it would be weird, or awkward kissing one of her best friends. To her surprise and delight, it had been nice. Better than nice; perfect. As if it had been meant to be since they'd met during their days in the Hufflepuff common room nearly twenty years ago now. She scooted forward, letting her hands rest on his shoulders as she deepend the kiss. She pulled back for a moment, and smiled at him. “I love you, you know that right?” she said softly, kissing his forehead softly before pressing her own against it.

“I love you, you know that right?” he smiled as they broke the kiss and their foreheads came together. he wrapped his arms around her waist and moved to hug her closer. he smiled softly and nuzzled his nose against hers softly and he looked up at her, his light eyes meeting hers. "i love you too callie" he said softly and he rubbed his hand down her arm gently. he really did. it had been years since he'd felt this way about a woman and he didn't want to ever stop feeling this way. while they were hiding it from the people they knew and worked with it was something he couldn't wait to share with the world. "so is this one of your plans?" he said with a tease and he smiled up at her, his smile turning from soft to playful.

Callie smiled and she pressed her lips to the side of his forehead. What a wonderful feeling it was, to fall in love with someone who she had considered one of her closest friends for almost fifteen years. It was funny sometimes how life worked out. She wanted desperately to tell Caroline; the head nurse was her best friend after all, and was close to Calex too! They also should probably figure on telling Neville sooner rather than later. She was sure Neville wouldn’t mind too much that Calex and Calliope were together, but she supposed he would want to be in the know. But, there was someone more important that they needed to tell first, and that was Calex’s son Blaise.
“Well, this was my main idea,” she started, winking cheekily at him. “But, you and I do need to discuss Blaise. He’s a teenager and he’s brilliantly smart - he’ll notice something is going on sooner rather than later, no matter how much we try to hide it,” she reasoned, draping one of her arms over his shoulders and scooting onto Calex’s lap. She leaned in and kissed him gently. “I know you’re wanting to hold off on telling him, but I’d rather it come from you than someone else, and I know Blaise would too,” she reminded him.

“Well, this was my main idea, But, you and I do need to discuss Blaise. He’s a teenager and he’s brilliantly smart - he’ll notice something is going on sooner rather than later, no matter how much we try to hide it,” he shifted his arm so she could scoot into his lap as he took a moment to think about it. he wasn't sure. he didn't want to keep it from his son but he was worried in a way. if blaise wasn't happy about it or if he got hurt by it and it upset him .. calex didn't want to loose callie. but he couldn't continue something that hurt his son. blaise had to come first, he'd come first for the last twelve years and he would for years to come. he chewed his lip. "i know. he already knows something is up but .. " he said with a sigh as he rubbed his hand over her back absently. "if he's not happy about us .. i couldn't do it callie. we'd have to be over .. at least until he came around or started to understand" he said as he looked up into her face. he kissed her back as her lips touched his and he leaned forward, nuzzling her shoulder with his nose slightly. “I know you’re wanting to hold off on telling him, but I’d rather it come from you than someone else, and I know Blaise would too,” he knew it was true but there were so many what ifs. he hadn't been this scared of loosing something in a long time. he wanted to keep hold of it with everything he had. "i know that too" he said with a soft sigh as he rested his forehead against her neck, wishing there was some divine intervention in that moment that would tell him what to do.

Calliope sighed and pressed her lips against his forehead. "I know," she said softly. Blaise was the most important person in Calex's life and she knew it. She remembered when he was born; Calex had been so happy and proud that day. Then the terrible accident happened, and Calex was a single parent. She'd tried to not cross any lines with Blaise and his father growing up, but their attraction had developed anyway whether they liked it or not. She believed though that Blaise did like her quite a lot; he at least liked her baking skills, and was always nice to her whenever they were together. "It'd be best to do it before Christmastime though; that way if he's okay with it, we can be together at the Yule Ball, and if not, then we can part as friends," she told him. She closed her eyes as he buried his face into her neck and she held him tighter. "We don't have to talk about it anymore though," she whispered, tilting his chin up and kissing him gently on the lips.

there was one saving grace about the fact the woman he'd fallen for was callie. he'd never change it for the world but there was one thing that would help them in getting blaise to see this was a good thing. blaise had known callie his whole life, she'd been there before riley had been killed and she'd been there afterward too. he trusted her and while calex hoped that blaise didn't see it as a break in trust, he couldn't help but think it was a small glimmer of hope that blaise would be okay with this. "It'd be best to do it before Christmastime though; that way if he's okay with it, we can be together at the Yule Ball, and if not, then we can part as friends," he agreed. he nodded slightly to let her know that he did and he took one of her hands in his, squeezing it gently. "if he's okay with it, you should have christmas with us" he said softly as he looked up at her. it wouldn't be anything big of course since he had to be at the castle that night which meant that blaise would be with his grandparents for the night as he was too young to attend the ball, he did have a small dinner planned for the day after christmas, boxing day dinner instead of christmas. he pressed his face into her neck gently, taking in the perfume that she was wearing and the feel of her skin against his cheek as he kissed the soft skin of her shoulder. "We don't have to talk about it anymore though," he nodded in agreement. he didn't want to think about them having to end. not tonight. he let his head move when she tried to tilt it up and he looked up into her eyes as she kissed him. he quickly put his hand on the back of her neck, following her lips encase she tried to pull away and he moved to hug her close, wanting to feel her in his arms at that very moment.

Callie smiled at Calex’s request to have Christmas with him and Blaise. “Of course,” she said softly, nuzzling her nose against the side of his cheek. She’d already had Christmas with them once before a few years ago; back then of course Callie was just Calex’s best friend but Blaise had always seemed to like her. She hoped that he would still like her when he was told about her relationship with his father. “I’ll cook though,” she told him teasingly. Calex wasn’t exactly the worlds’ best cook, and Calliope knew a trick or two from her mother about Christmas dinners.
They were done talking about the need to tell Calex’s son though, and as Calliope kissed him back she realized that all talking could be put aside from now. She broke his kiss and stood up, grabbing onto his hands. “Come on you,” she said with a grin, tugging on his hands to lead him towards his bedroom. The last thing they needed was to be caught in a less than decent position by someone deciding to walk in, and what Callie had in mind was not for anyone elses’ eyes.
