dear mrs. hermione granger-weasley,
My name is Jamie Greyback. I'm a seventh year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and I am on track to graduate this spring. Upon my entrance into the work force I realize there may be certain obstacles placed in front of me both by virtue of my last name and my father's condition, which he has so graciously passed down to me. I wrote to inquire about the current state of our werewolf discrimination laws, and what rights I can expect upon entering the workforce this May. Thank you for your time. yours sincerely, jamie m. greyback @hermionejean

Dear Ms. Greyback,
I have heard of you and your siblings but fear not; I certainly do not judge you for your name or fathers' indiscretions. I can though sympathize that you may feel a position may turn you down due to your heritage and affliction. As to werewolf discrimination laws, I am pleased to say that we are entering our fifth year of passing the Anti-Discriminatory Werewolf Law, which makes it illegal to not hire someone based on being a werewolf. We had to make a specific law as it was...demonstrated that employers thought they could still get away with discrimination under the Anti-Discriminatory Non-Human Laws passed fifteen years ago, and we needed to stamp that out. I do believe your half-sister Odette Greyback is a successful Cursebreaker? She is good friends with my niece, and I have not heard any reports of discrimination from her - though that may be because the head Cursebreaker is Bill Weasley and...well, I don't suppose I need to go into more detail.
What sort of position are you looking to go into once you've graduated? If you permit me to say so, I do have some wonderful connections in almost every position, Quidditch included. Let me know what your interests are and I can send out some correspondences.
Best Regards, Hermione Granger

dear mrs. hermione granger,
Thank you for the information regarding the laws; I'm afraid I'm not as well informed as I ought to be, but since everything is more recent, we don't cover it in History of Magic. With all due respect, ma'am, Odette has a slightly easier lot in life. She's not actually a lycanthrope, and her name change was recent, and of her own volition. I, on the other hand, am considering changing my surname to something a little less recognizable. It's a tough decision, because I want to make my own life free from my father's name, but I also wish to help atone for his sins.
I am looking to go into Quidditch. At first my consideration was Potions, but I've heard that one of my classmates is looking to be a potioneer, and I know that there are a limited slots available in that profession. I'll do just fine as a Quidditch player. My main concern is that since my affliction can put me out of commission for several days at a time, managers won't want to hire me. Thank you again for responding to my letter, and for your time. yours sincerely, jamie m. greyback @hermionejean

Ms. Greyback,I can certainly understand on wanting to change your last name; I know a good deal of people who go by their first and middle names - perhaps that is an option? Or you can simply defy the naysayers and continue using your given last name. I feel it is my duty to warn you though; you are indeed protected under the Anti-Discrimination laws and it does extend to Quidditch teams, but unfortunately it does not protect people being rude to you regarding your affliction.
Speaking of, I have spoken to a fellow ministry worker, whom I would advise also being in touch with. Viktor Krum is the head of the Department of Magical Games & Sports, and I think he could be a valuable resource to you. I'm sure you know the name, and can appreciate that his pull with the Quidditch world is quite heavy. I believe if you speak with him, you can convince him to speak to any teams interested in you on your behalf and explain that they are now allowed to discriminate based on your status of a werewolf.
Let me know if you'd like me to get in touch with Viktor for you.
Best Regards, Hermione Granger

dear mrs. hermione granger,
My middle name is, sadly, not all that amazing. I was named after a trench, if you would believe it – the deepest trench in the ocean. I feel like there’s some metaphor to be drawn there, but you’re more than capable of coming up with one yourself. I’ve long since learned that people will be rude to me no matter what. I suppose at least they’re picking fun at something that I can agree is terrible, rather than something that I view as an asset instead of a flaw.
I’m actually friends with Viktor’s eldest daughter, Irina; do you think it would be more prudent for me to go through you, or through her, to get into touch with Viktor? Either way, I appreciate you suggesting him to me. I had nearly forgotten his position within the Ministry – I had always just thought of him as Irina’s dad. Similarly, I had to remind myself of your position within the Ministry as well, considering my extensive relationships with several of the Weasleys. At risk of sounding repetitive, thank you once more for looking into this matter for me. yours sincerely, jamie marianas greyback @hermionejean

Dear Jamie,
Marianas is a unique and quite beautiful middle name, if you do not mind me saying so. I think either would be a suitable option for you. Think long and think carefully before applying for a name change though; it is a rather tedious process and to go through it twice would be painful.
Why don't you do both? I can contact Viktor when he's in the office (he is of course at Hogwarts just now for the start of the Triwzard Tournament), while you talk to Irina. I know they have a very close relationship, so she would certainly be able to advocate on your behalf. Having met the girl a few times, I think it would certainly be something she would do.
Let me know how it goes, and if there's anything else I can do you for you.
Best Regards, Hermione Granger
