Coming to Hogwarts for anything was always a strange sensation for Harry. There was nostalgia, but fear was woven in through the rose-colored memories of his past. The second floor would always be the place he had entered into the Chamber of Secrets. The fact that fighting a basilisk at the ripe young age of twelve wasn't Harry's most traumatizing memory baffled him slightly, but that was no matter. He still had to patrol the entirety of the school, regardless of his personal biases and memories. Harry had just finished his rounds, actually - his replacement was not ten meters away from him, walking in the other direction to begin his circuit of the floor. Harry momentarily considered going down to the Slytherin common room to see if Albus was there, but then thought the better of it. It was probably better for him to get going home, before he was late for dinner again.

Lily had skipped class and was meandering down the halls with some Ravenclaws when she saw an auror up ahead, heading toward the second floor. She giggled, excusing herself from her friends in order to follow them. Sure, they knew she'd be there of course, but she just wanted to see what they were up to! She was not expecting them to be walking toward her father though. As soon as she saw him she surged forward. "DADDY!" she called loudly as she moved, rapidly closing the distance between them. Once close enough, she leapt from the ground and wrapped her arms around his neck and hoped he'd catch her waist otherwise they'd probably both go tumbling down! HARRY JAMES POTTER

There was exactly one person in the world who called Harry daddy, and that was his daughter. Harry had to laugh a little at the idea of Albus using that moniker, but thankfully he wasn’t distracted enough that when Lily threw herself at him he wasn’t able to catch her. Harry wrapped his arms around Lily’s waist, pulling her into a tight hug. He spun her around once before planting his daughter’s feet firmly back into the earth – he was getting too old to be doing too many acrobatic tricks. “Lily.” He said, his mood suddenly improved tenfold. His daughter tended to have that effect on people, but on Harry especially. “How’s your day been, sweetheart?” Harry had a nagging feeling that there was something wrong with this picture, but he couldn’t quite figure out what. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that Lily was in the corridor in the first place…

Lily giggled as her father caught and spun her, not at all surprised that he did so. She grinned up at him as he said her name, asking how her day had been. "It's been pretty good! How about yours?" her eyes wrinkled along with her large smile. It was a special smile, one that was only reserved for Harry. She didn't notice a difference, of course, seeing as Lily didn't notice much of anything. She didn't know that her face shifted to a version of herself that was more based in sweetness rather than the need for fun and adventure. When around Harry, she was someone who just wanted nothing more than to hang on to him and hear all his stories and tell him all of hers. The rest of the world was a blur to her in times like this. She was ecstatic that he was patrolling at the school this year.

Lily looked so damn happy to see him, and Harry couldn’t help but grin even wider. Everyone saw his youngest child as a wild child, but to Harry, she was his baby, and his only daughter, to boot. When they were alone together, he saw a lot of his mother – or a lot of the stories of his mother – in his daughter. She was loud and brash sometimes, but she cared so much for things that she believed in, and he couldn’t ask for anything more. “It’s been good, good.” Harry said, nodding. He was still somewhat distracted by the feeling that something was off, but he was beginning to think that was more due to the fact that he really didn’t like the second floor corridor than anything. “You wouldn’t believe the number of students that I catch skipping class, though.” Or maybe she would. “You know, I never skipped class when I was in school.” Except for that entire year of classes he had elected not to do. And maybe a few other times, too…

Lily was glad that her father had that wide grin on his face. She'd seen his heartbreak in those same lips too many times, and he needed to smile more. She was just glad that she could help cause that! He answered that his day had been good and she grinned happily still, bouncing on her toes a little. Then he started talking about skipping class and he tried not to laugh, sucking her lips back into her teeth to try and stop the sound from coming out. Her father wasn't stupid. He'd figured it out.
But she could play dumb! Plus, her hair was blonde now! Maybe that would help...
"Oh really? You never skipped? How odd," she said, trying to sound innocent, but her laugh was at the tip of her words, "why would anyone ever skip class, I wonder? It's oh so interesting," and there it was. The laugh came out in full force.

Lily seemed to be in awe of the fact that Harry had never skipped class. If he hadn’t been friends with Hermione, it probably would have been a regular occurrence, but as it was, his friend had always dragged him (sometimes literally) to his classes. Harry’s mind must have wandered, because one moment he was nodding along with Lily, agreeing with her, and the next she was laughing. Oh. She must have been skipping class right now! That must've been why everything had felt so odd earlier. “Just because classes aren’t interesting doesn’t mean you don’t have to go to them.” Harry chastised, using his best dad voice on her. “Get yourself a Ravenclaw friend. They’ll keep you honest.” Of course, Ravenclaws didn’t have the same class schedules as Gryffindors, but Harry didn’t know if any of the students in Lily’s house were really a positive influence on her.

Having been caught by her father would normally have embarrassed a teenage girl, but not Lily. She just thought this was downright hilarious. He spoke about how she still had to go and how she needed a Ravenclaw to keep her on her toes and she laughed quietly, nodding at him with wide eyes. "Yes, daddy. But class is almost over anyway so," she turned on her heel and linked arms with him, looking up at him with her best big eyes, "can't we just take a walk together? Father and daughter? Best buds?"

Harry really needed to get better at resisting puppy dog eyes. His daughter had taken the concept of puppy dog eyes to a whole new level, though, and Harry wondered if there was a correlation between lycanthropy and how good the eyes were. He needed Teddy to try to get away with something ridiculous, and then James or Al, so that he could see the full spectrum. “I’ll walk with you.” Harry acquiesced, “If you promise to go to all of your classes for the rest of the month.” That was the kind of bribery that parents were allowed to do, right?

Ooh, a bribe. His intriguing! Lily bit her lip and grinned even more. Oh, her father was a clever man. She stared into his eyes a moment longer before nodding. "All right, all right. You have a deal. The rest of the month!" Then she was off, having stood still for too long. "So, how's Teddy? James? Mum?" her eyes flickered with some emotion she didn't understand upon mentioning her mother. Ginny was doing her best to pick up where her memory left off, but that didn't mean they were all in the clear. Lily still worried about her, even though she had a hard time saying it out loud.

Harry stuck out his hand when Lily said they had a deal. He wasn’t going to believe her until she shook on it. Not that he thought that his daughter was untrustworthy, but he could see her going to extreme lengths not to have to attend class regularly. “Teddy and Victoire are back together, if you haven’t heard that already.” Harry said, unsure of who his niece and godson had told about his rekindled romance. “James is good. Natalia hangs around a lot when she’s not working.” And Harry was certain that if his son’s girlfriend hadn’t had to work, she’d be around a lot more than she already was. “Your mum’s good, too. I think she’s getting better about remembering.” Harry would hesitate to say that she was relearning memories quicker now than she was before, but it seemed to Harry like the gaps were getting lesser in size, if not fewer in number. Of course, no matter how many times she had to ask him about what had happened a particular year or a particular day, Harry would answer her. She would have done the same for him. “What about you? How’s that boy?” Lily had gone off to Germany for part of the summer with some boy (whose name Harry was willfully forgetting) and Harry was curious what had happened to them since.

Lily listened intently, well as intently as she was capable, as her father answered her questions about her loved ones. Teddy and Victoire were back together!? She hadn't heard that! "That's amazing!" she squealed, squeezing her fathers arm. Those two just made more sense to her then almost any other couple on earth, aside from her parents, obviously. James and Natalia were still spending time together, that was great too! At his words about her mum Ginny felt that deep rooted sadness start to sprout again and she shook it off by releasing his arm and running to look out the nearest window in the hallway for a moment. The sun was always a good distraction. At her fathers next question she spun back around to face him, tilting her head to the side. "What bo-Oh! Adrian, dad," she said with a giggle. She pronounced the name "AWE-DREE-EN" with the softer A rather then the harsh one. That was the correct German way of saying it, and she'd taking a liking to saying it that way. "He's great! We're just doing the normal school thing, you know. I think he misses his mum more then he let's on but," she shrugged, Adrian was doing just fine as far as she could tell.

Lily seemed almost as pleased about Vic and Teddy’s reunion than Harry was, and he smiled as his daughter’s squeal. She danced over to the window a few seconds later, and Harry didn’t bother to question why; Lily would be Lily, and it was quite a beautiful say outside. When Lily began to ask what boy Harry was referring to, he wasn’t sure whether or not she was bluffing. Considering she exclaimed his name before the question was even out of her mouth, Harry determined it was the latter. “Adrian, right.” He mumbled to himself. He was going to need to have a talk with that boy, eventually. He didn’t think that asking for Adrian now would go over well, though. “Are you two going to the Yule Ball together?” Harry asked. He didn’t mean to be one of those parents, but he was curious to see if Lily had found someone who could understand and appreciate all of her. When Lily said that Adrian was missing his mother, Harry’s lips turned down into half of a frown. “I guess not everyone can be as lucky as you and stop for a conversation with their father in the corridor.” He said with a smile. He wished that he could help with the whole missing mother thing, but Harry wasn’t sure there was really anything he, or anyone else, could do to help Adrian.

Lily nodded as Harry repeated the name. Then he asked about the ball and Lily tilted her head to each side, back and forth, "eeehhh, he hasn't asked me but I'm assuming," she said with a little shrug. She wasn't really that concerned about it, to be honest. She would have fun either way and didn't really think a date was important. Still, it was nice of her dad to ask, though he probably knew that she was indifferent. She could sense that protectiveness in him, though, and that just made her even more giddy. So did his comment about how lucky she was to have him at the school! "I am the luckiest girl in the world, daddy! I wish mum could be here too but... you know," she shrugged again, shaking her head. She didn't like to dwell on sad things. "Adrian will live, so will the other students. And I will relish in my happiness," she giggled, squeezing his arm. "Have you caught anyone doing anything crazy yet, daddy!?"

Harry raised his eyebrows when Lily said that Adrian hadn’t yet asked her to the Yule Ball, but that she assumed they would be going together. “Do you need me to threaten him to get on that?” Of course it was a joke, but somewhere in there, there was a hint of seriousness. Even if Lily wasn’t bothered by the situation, Harry was. His little girl deserved the best, including actually being asked to go to the Ball. Harry grinned when Lily said that she was the luckiest girl in the world. He wouldn’t argue that, especially because he was the luckiest dad, to have a daughter like her. “Well, your mum and I will both be here for the Ball, so it’ll be sort of the same, right?” Of course, there were other children at the school who had parents at the Ministry, so it wouldn’t be quite as special, but Harry thought it would be fine. Lily asked if he had caught anyone else, and Harry put on a straight face. “Actually, as a matter of fact, I have.” Harry said, trying to hide his smirk. “I caught this crazy little Gryffindor girl skipping class just so she could talk to her father.”
