Oscar cocked his head when Dastan asked if he had any tips for making friends. “This will sound strange.” Oscar admitted. “But if you “accidentally” walk into people, it may start a conversation.” Oscar put the word accidentally in air quotations to let Dastan know that it didn’t have to be an accident at all. “Of course, it could also just make things strange…” If Dastan went around stumbling into every Hogwarts student, then they would probably think he was strange indeed. “Or pretend to be lost.” People always liked to prove that they were smarter than everyone else, so asking for directions was a good way to get the Hogwarts students to warm up to them.
Oscar smiled when Dastan said that he hadn’t seen his twin, perhaps due to cupcakes. Oscar wouldn’t mind braving the fray for a cupcake. When it came to disappointed Hogwarts students, Oscar shook his head. “I only saw Anna.” And seeing as she was the Champion, she wasn’t disappointed at all.

Dastan cocked his head to the side curiously. "Accidentally" bump into someone? "Is that what you did with your Champion friend?" Dastan asked, forgetting her name. "Run into her on "accident?" It was an interesting idea, to be sure, and not one that Dastan thought of before. He could get to know more students with this approach. Maybe it would even work with that cute girl that always sat at the smart table. He would have to give it a shot. He laughed at the suggestion to pretend to be lost. "Or really be lost," he admitted, mostly because he assumed that he wasn't the only one to have gotten lost in Hogwarts Castle. "That castle is like a maze! I try to pay attention to where I'm going, but things are always changing in there so it's hard to keep track." Maybe Oscar would disagree, but to Dastan the school was confusing.
"I wonder how all of the younger Hogwarts students feel about the Tournament?" Dastan commented randomly. Actually, to him it wasn't random. He'd been thinking about how it was surprising Oscar hadn't run into anyone else and wondered if they were all in their common rooms, disappointed. Then he realized that not all of them were eligible. So the question was: was the rest of the school ready to back the red-headed Gryffindor girl? "I still think it's lucky you ran into her tonight," Dastan couldn't help but add on. It was such a large coincidence, but he still believed Oscar. He had no reason not to.

Oscar shook his head when Dastan asked if he had “accidentally” run into Anna. “No, no.” He assured the other boy. “First I actually was lost,” which was his second idea, “And then I actually did run into her. It was not fun.” That was when they were still not friendly with each other, so the situation had been unbearably awkward, rather than a way for them to get to know each other. Now that he was thinking about it, Oscar was beginning to think that his two strategies for getting to know the Hogwarts students were a little ill-advised. Hopefully Dastan didn’t get mad at him if they didn’t work out as well for the other boy as they did for Oscar. Oscar nodded when Dastan commented about the castle being like a maze. “I know how to get to the third floor from anywhere, and then I just figure it out from there.” He informed the other boy. Having one place that was your central hub made getting lost a lot harder, Oscar had found. Oscar also had the comfort in knowing that Anna was often looking for him as much as he was looking for her, so if he was ever horribly lost, he could just stay put and Anna would eventually find him.
“I would not know.” Oscar said when Dastan said that he wondered how the younger students felt. “I think they are probably jealous.” It was always awful to have something within your sights but not be able to attain it. The seventh years at least had a chance to win the Champion position, but the other years had no such hope. Oscar nodded when Dastan said that he was lucky to run into Anna. “Most of our meetings are luck.” It was still strange for someone like Oscar to consider himself lucky, but it was nice, too.

Their conversation seemed to be running in circles. Or maybe Dastan just wasn't understanding Oscar right. "Wait. why would it not be fun for you to run into your Hogwarts friend? Even if it was running into her literally, would you not be happy about that?" It didn't make sense to him. Unless she got mad at Oscar for running into her. That would make sense. Maybe she blamed him for it or something? He was not sure, but this conversation had turned out to be far more interesting than he'd anticipated. Dastan chuckled, "I know how to get to the Great Hall. And the library. That is about it for me," he admitted. Despite his best efforts, he couldn't seem to figure out the rest of the castle. At least he wasn't the only one.
Dastan nodded, "Probably. I bet the sixth years were not happy they could not enter." At least, if the Tournament was held at his school when Dastan was in his sixth year, he would have been furious to not be allowed to enter. It was a good thing that it was held during his seventh year so he didn't have to deal with those emotions. Dastan shrugged, "Well then, you are more lucky than I am because you made a friend first." It was interesting talking to Oscar so much in one sitting. They'd never been particularly close, so this was something new for Dastan. He didn't mind in the slightest, just didn't expect Oscar to talk to him like this.

Oscar sighed a little when Dastan asked why it wouldn’t be fun to run into someone who was his friend, even if they had literally run into each other. He had been hoping to avoid this part in the conversation, having to admit that he and Anna hadn’t gotten off on the right foot. “We were not always friends.” Oscar answered. “We are both…passionate people, one could say.” He continued. “And our first meeting turned into an argument because of that.” That, and the fact that both of them were good at teasing the other, but not the best at recognizing when they were the one being teased. Dastan said that he knew how to get to the Great Hall and the library, and Oscar nodded. “Well, once you are there, it easy to go everywhere else, non?” He asked. The Great Hall, at least, was a central hub that made getting to other parts of the castle extremely easy, if you knew where you were going.
“I would agree with that.” Oscar said with a laugh when Dastan mentioned the sixth years. “Some of them are old enough.” He pointed out. As long as their seventeenth birthday was before Halloween night, any year student could enter. He could only imagine that the seventh years would be livid if they were jipped of their chance to become the Hogwarts Champion because of a sixth year, though. “You will find a friend, Dastan.” Oscar said confidently. It might just take a little longer.

"Oh." Dastan couldn't keep the surprise entirely out of his voice, though he tried. So Oscar and his friend fought with one another the first time they met? That was an interesting story, to say the least. And now today she'd spent her time with him after being chose Champion, instead of spending it with all her Hogwarts friends. "I am sorry to hear that. At least you both got past it?" Dastan didn't mean to make that sound like a question, but he did. Obviously they got past it if Oscar was telling the truth about being with her only a short while ago. He smiled, "Yes, I think I can start to find my way around from there. And if not, I can ask someone to help me." Dastan had tried that a few times. While he hadn't made any particularly close friends by doing that yet, he hoped that he would sometime soon.
"I wonder why they were not allowed to put their name in if they were old enough," Dastan mused, more to himself than really expecting an answer from Oscar. It was an interesting thought though. He would have to ponder on it later. "Thank you," Dastan answered sincerely. "I think I will try harder to now." Honestly, if anything could have given Dastan more courage to talk to strangers, it was hearing about friends that others were making. Really, it shouldn't be such an intimidating thing.

Dastan seemed shocked by Oscar’s story, which was alright, since it was originally intended to be somewhat shocking. He didn’t want to stay too much on it, so he was glad when Dastan mentioned that he had gotten past the disagreement, nodding quickly when the other boy said it. “Do try!” The Beauxbatons boy encouraged his schoolmate, hoping that maybe Dastan could make a close friend or two during their time at Hogwarts. Without foreign friends and without the Champion status, this whole year would seem like a bit of a waste, at least to Oscar. Oscar muffled a yawn in the crook of his arm. “I think I will try to sleep.” He said with a sigh. It would take several Silencing Charms, and probably a wad of cotton balls, before Oscar would be able to block out enough of the noise to sleep, but just because he wasn’t Champion didn’t mean that the world stopped, even if he desperately wanted it to. “Have a nice night, Dastan.” Oscar said, standing up and shaking off the heaviness in his body temporarily so that he could prepare himself for bed.
