Jamie nodded as Edmund said that he was going to start looking more into his options for the future. “You haven’t decided what you want to do, then?” She asked. She knew a few sixth years already had ideas of where their futures were going. Heck, some first years knew exactly what they wanted to do – though, to be fair, most of those aspirations ended up changing as they discovered which subjects they liked or disliked at the higher level.
Jamie frowned a little. It sounded like Edmund hadn’t had the best go of things. Jamie hadn’t, either, but she had managed to keep a semi-positive outlook up until September, until things had spiraled out control, and she had ended up where she found herself now.
“I really don’t mind if you do.” Jamie said with a shrug. She had been joking, but that didn’t mean that she couldn’t actually help Edmund out if he needed her too. “I can lock you in the library or something.” She said. That was definitely teasing – Jamie wouldn’t lock anyone anywhere against their will, even to get homework done.

He wasn't sure if the question was incredulous or sincere, so Edmund shook his head ruefully. "No. I know most people my age already know what they think they want to do, but I really am not sure. I've looked into a few things, but nothing is really sticking out to me. I'll figure it out though," he said, not wanting to get another lecture about how important this decision was and the many different options that were available to him.
He noticed her frown when he talked about his past, but Jamie didn't say anything and Ed didn't really want to talk about it more, so he didn't say anything either. He just let that part of the conversation die.
He smiled, "I probably will. I haven't had that sort of an offer from anyone and sometimes I do really need to study." He laughed at the thought of getting locked in the library. It made him think of the time when he'd locked Addi and Grey in a closet together to sort through their issues. Granted, that was a dangerous move and Addi had been furious, but it was funny to look back on now. "Thanks for the offer," he said with another smile. Jamie was cool. He couldn't believe they hadn't really ever talked before. Then again, remembering his normal attitude, he could.

Jamie nodded when Edmund said that he didn’t know what he was going to do. “That’s fine!” Jamie said, attempting to be encouraging. “I had narrowed it down to two choices in my sixth year, but it wasn’t really until over the summer that I decided what I wanted to be.” Jamie hadn’t been sure if she could feasibly support herself on a potioneer’s budget, especially since, unlike most recent graduates, she didn’t have a parental safety net to fall back on. She knew that her siblings would try their best to make sure she didn’t starve or anything of the sort, but Jamie didn’t want to be their burden. She could support herself on a Quidditch player’s budget, and get to spend her entire life playing the sport that she loved. After she retired, she could be a potioneer, if she still wanted to do that.
“Well, if you ever need me, I’m normally in the Hufflepuff common room. If you wait outside someone’ll probably ask you what you need, and pretty much everyone knows me, so they can come find me.” And if she wasn’t in the common room, anyone could probably tell Edmund that, too. “It’s no problem.” Jamie said with a shrug. “I inherited a lot of siblings recently, so I guess I’m trying to practice my big sister skills on just about everyone.” Including her Quidditch team, though that was beside the point, since Edmund wasn’t on it.

Edmund was surprised that Jamie was in the same situation last year. Apparently she didn't know what she wanted to do at first? Well, that was definitely a relief. It just seemed like everyone else was so well put together and knew exactly what they wanted to do and he just didn't fit that. "That's a good thing to know. I just feel like everyone else has it all figured out. It's a relief to know that I've got time and I don't need to know it all right now," he admitted, though he kind of felt weird about it. Why was it so hard for him to decide what he wanted to do?
He smiled when she told him that he could find her in the Hufflepuff common room. "Then I'll go there first if I need you to force me to study," Ed teased. "Or for anything else," he added as an afterthought. He might even just go to talk to her. It was nice having someone to talk to about things like this. "Well you've definitely got the big sister skills down." Not that she acted like Susan, but Jamie was definitely good at showing she cared.

Jamie smiled at Edmund. It must have been nice to be reassured that everything was going to be okay, though Jamie had never worried that much about her career choice, probably since she had narrowed it down to two choices. There was still the matter of her lycanthropy to deal with, but Jamie had been dealing with that since she was a kid, so it wasn’t that much different now than it was then. “If anyone tells you otherwise, send them to me.” Jamie said with a teasing smile. Jamie was hardly the most threatening person that Edmund could send a dissenter to, that much was for sure. She could be angry when she wanted to, but she preferred not to.
Jamie nodded when Edmund said that he’d go to the Hufflepuff common room if he wanted to study. Or anything else? Jamie hadn’t offered that, but she didn’t mind anyways. She liked that Edmund was comfortable with her. “Someone ought to tell my brother that.” Jamie said with a snort. She doubted Adrian would agree, but then again, Jamie had been wrong about her brother before.

Edmund smiled when Jamie told him to send people to her if they disagreed. "I will," he said, wiggling an eyebrow at her. This was definitely an interesting conversation, but not in a bad way. He was enjoying getting to know Jamie a little bit more. Still, he didn't know what else he should say to her. They'd already talked about school, the future, the Yule Ball. Nothing else was coming to mind.
Edmund shook his head, "Not me! I don't even know your brother. But you can feel free to tell him I said that." He laughed. "But I think it's time for me to go. Thanks for talking with me and all your suggestions," Edmund smiled and waited just a few seconds before turning around to leave.

Jamie smiled when Edmund said that she could tell Adrian what he said about her having the big sister thing down. She’d probably never get around to telling Adrian that, but it was still a nice thing to have as argument ammunition or something of the sort. “Have a nice day, Edmund.” Jamie said pleasantly when he turned to leave. She was going to stay in the kitchen a little longer, and maybe grab another bite to eat, but she was glad to have such a nice conversation amidst her snacking.
