Cori was sitting at the train station in Hogsmede, praying that the train would come soon and she would be able to get the heck out of here. The day had gone far worse than she had ever expected, and she was sure it was going to get worse if she hung around Hogwarts and Hogsmede a moment longer. She had nothing with her but a small bag with her money on other necessary day trip items. She wasn't planning on ditching out today, so she only brought a few things to Hogsmede with her. She didn't even wear her gloves or a long sleeve jacket. Her shirt sleeves ended at her elbows. She had only attended Hogsmede for a short visit to grab a few things from the post office. Some extra parchament and ink. That was all she needed, she wouldn't bump into anyone that way, right?
Soon she found herself face to face with her ex-boyfriend, Jonathan. The two had met up the day before to talk about their relationship, when really all he wanted to do was dance, snuggle and try to win her back. She had fun, sure, but it wasn't the meeting she was looking for. Running into him again today just irked her beyond all reason. He had asked her how she liked the chocolate he bought her, but she didn't even eat it. One thing led to another, and she ended up making up some lame excuse to get away.
Next, she bumped into another friend and this one was in a panic. Apparently their potions essay was supposed to be six pages, not the three that they had originally planned on. Now Cori had three more pages to fix before the morning. Not that it was bad, but she was already irritated.
The things just started piling up after that, trying to avoid Alice in Hogsmede, trying to avoid Ronan, Carer, basically everybody because she didn't want to ruin anyones day with her bad mood. Except for Alice, that would have been fine, but she wasn't in the mood for the usual word battle. The cherry on top was when she bumped into another students whose parents were visiting.
"You look familiar, who're your parents?" they asked her.
Cori twitched, walked away and came straight to the train station.

Mathieu was feeling a bit under the weather. Perhaps it was because of the changing of the seasons. It was a Hogsmeade weekend and he had originally been excited about that at the beginning of the week, but when he woke up that morning with a sore throat and was attacked by a fit of sneezes, Matty knew his trip to Hogsmeade would be brief. He mentally made a list of things he absolutely had to have and then he would be returning back to the castle to rest.
The list Matty had made had of course consisted of treats from Honeydukes. Pumpkin pasties, licorice, fudge, and chocolate frogs, namely. They were his favorites, and he couldn't live without a stash under his bed. After he had visited Honeydukes, he made his way over to the small goods store to buy some medicine for his sneezing and sore throat. The seasons were changing fast, and it was looking to be a brutal winter so he figured he might as well stock up now. With a very deep sigh, Matty exited the store and made his way to the station.
Matty didn't like to leave Hogsmeade early, especially when his friends were all still having fun. But Matty wasn't a fool, he knew he needed rest. Upon entering the train station, he noticed a fairly attractive brunette girl. She looked familiar, he thought, so Matty decided he would take a chance and sit next to her. Pretending like that had not been his intention, Matty sat down nex to her, looking anywhere but at her. However, he was then attacked by yet another fit of sneezes.
AAHchoo, AAHchoo, AAAHCHOO!
This was embarrassing, even for Matty. His subtle attempt at trying to flirt with this girl had just gone out the window. He turned to look at her, grimacing slightly. There was no way this girl would be interested in him now. "Sorry," he said, his nose stuffy and his voice sounded stuffed up as well.

Needless to say Cori was a little weirded out when the Slytherin boy sat beside her. She had seen him before, around the halls, but she couldn't remember his name. He wasn't in her year, that much she knew. She had never had any classes with him, so what point would she have in remembering is name? She was curious as to why he sat beside her though, even though he looked uninterested and preoccupied. She turned to say something to him when he suddenly burst into a fit of sneezes. She leaned away from him, feeling sorry for him but not wanting to get sneezed on. When he was done, he turned to her and apologized, she couldn't help but smile.
"Awe, it's okay. I don't judge people for having colds," she bit her lip and looked away from him. She almost burst into a fit of laughter at what she had just said. If you thought about it, it could be a pun for the fact that she was cold. She released her lip after a moment, but a goofy smile was still placed on her face. At least the day wasn't a one hundred percent sham, she got to have a little laugh. "Did you need a tissue, or something? I might have one in my bag, if you wanted me to look." She started looking through her bag before he answered.
Soon she pulled out a little tissue and held it out to him. She was careful to hold the tiniest corner so he wouldn't be able to touch her exposed hand. She silently cursed herself for not wearing gloves, or long sleeves. She was so stupid. Deep down, however, the reason for her not wearing the gloves was because she wanted today to be different. She wanted to pretend she was just like everybody else. Anybody else would give a sneezing boy a tissue, right? She could drop it in his lap, that way they wouldn't touch, but it was probably better for her to try and act normal.

Mathieu had been expecting a different reaction from the girl than the one she gave him. When she smiled, Matty immediately smiled in return. His hopes were lifted again. Luckily, she had not been completely grossed out by his sneeze attack. He let out a slight relieved sigh, when she opened her mouth to speak.
It was good that she didn't judge people for having colds, Mathieu supposed but... was she trying to hold back laughter? Matty had to admit that that was a little weird. He couldn't help but wonder why that was funny to her. When she smiled at him again, his slightly confused expression went away, however. He watched as the dark haired girl began to shuffle through her bag before he could even answer. "That would be great," he said graciously, his nose still all stuffed up.
Matty smiled at the girl when she handed him the tissue. Without really thinking, and feeling only a slight bit eager, Matty reached for the tissue. He grabbed it, but as he did so two of his fingers made contact with the girl's own fingers. A huge chill went spiraling up his arm and down his body. "Woah," he thought, mindlessly letting the tissue fall between them onto the bench they sat upon. Matty looked down at the tissue before looking back up to the girl. "Actually," he said, beginning to unzip his forest green hoodie. "You're pretty cold yourself, you should take this so you don't end up like me," he slipped his arms through his hoodie and handed the girl the hoodie. If Matty had not been so eager to woo this girl, he may have realized that such a cold body temperature like the one the girl gave off was not normal.
But when it came to impressing girls, Matty wasn't always that bright.

As his hand made contact with hers Cori pulled back quickly, watching the tissue fall onto the bench. She prepared for him to be super freaked out, but he had barely touched her. Maybe he didn't notice. Well, except that he had clearly dropped the tissue out of shock. Cori watched as he unzipped his hoodie and offered it to her. So, he guessed she was just cold because she didn't have a jacket. That was nice, actually. That he didn't automatically start pestering her about the cold skin. Cori smiled at him, a little guilty smile and reached for the hoodie, careful not to touch his hand again.
"Thanks, I guess it is a little chilly out here," she said softly. Truthfully, the cold really didn't affect her that much. It was the sunlight that bothered her. Her skin was so pale that she sunburned easily. She laced her arms through the hoodie and zipped it up about half way, wanting to remember to take it off when the boy left. The hoodie was really warm, and it smelled good. Cori looked away, a little embarrassed that she was wearing a guys hoodie.
She turned back to face him after a moment, replacing her look of embarrassment with a casual smile. "You probably still need a tissue, huh?" she reached into her bag and this time, pulled the hoodie over her hand and dropped the tissue in his lap. It was safer that way. "So, what brought you to Hogsmede that was so important to get out of bed?" she smirked. If she was that sick, she wouldn't have come out.

Letting himself think about it a brief moment longer, Matty realized how odd it was that this girl was so cold. Although it was early October and the weather was truly beginning to cool down, even sick little Matty didn't think it was that cold outside yet. Nonetheless, he smiled at the girl when she gingerly took his hoodie into her own hands. Everyone was different, after all.
Matty nodded at the dark haired girl. The seasons were definitely changing, and that was most certainly the reason for his cold this morning. He couldn't help himself, though, to watch the girl slip her arms through his hoodie. A little grin made itself known as he watched her do so. "Sure is," he nodded in approval of her acceptance.
"You probably still need a tissue, huh?" Mathieu had almost forgotten about his nearly dripping nose. He nodded again at the girl. Once again, Matty found the girl just a little odd. Had she just dropped the tissue in his lap? Matty shrugged it off, still taking the tissue and blowing his nose into it quietly. Matty smiled sheepishly at the girl's question. "I needed some medicine," he said. "That and my Honeydukes supply may have been running low... I can't live without my licorice." He said in a mock serious tone.
Finally, Matty used the hand he had not just blown his nose with to reach out to shake the girl's hand. "I'm Mathieu," he said with a charming smile. "But call me Matty," he shrugged.

She nodded, "I guess it's about that time of year," she tried to sound pessimistic, like most people would be, but truthfully she was thrilled. Winter was the best time for her because people didn't notice her skin abnormality as much. The colder, the better. It also helped because people didn't think it was as strange when she wore long sleeves and gloves. It was just a lot easier to blend in that way. Sometimes she wanted to just move to Russia, it's pretty darn cold there, at least.
She politely looked away as he blew his nose, assuming that it'd be rude to stare. Licorice, huh? It's good stuff, sugar isn't good when you have a cold though." she stated factually. She turned back to him when he was finished blowing his nose only to notice him reaching a hand out to her. She sighed internally, whose decision was it to make handshaking an important part of introductions, anyway? It's considered polite and respectful and refusing seems rude, but then again, people often didn't find her to be kind.
She kept her hands in her lap and nodded at him, "Hi, Matty," she felt strange calling him such a casual nickname, but it was what he preferred, "I'm Cori. Don't mind if I don't want to shake you hand... I think I'd rather not get a cold right now." There, that was a decent way to get around it without seeming like a jerk... right?

Matty never left room for there to be any sort of awkward tension between he and someone he was talking to. The moment he sensed that it may be a possibility with this girl, Matty decided that the best option would be small talk. He looked at her and let out a quiet sigh before asking, "so what's your favorite season?" He shrugged to himself. "I like summer, myself," he added.
Matty was a little happy that the girl had looked away. He felt less embarrassed that way. He let out a chuckle at her fact. "I'm kind of a sugar addict," he said, guiltily. "It's hard to keep the stuff out of my reach." He picked up the little baggie of licorice he had got at Honeydukes. "Hence my getting out of bed," he smiled sheepishly.
When the girl kept her hands in her lap, Matty very briefly let an eyebrow raise in curiosity as to why she didn't shake his hand but then he let it blow over. "...I think I'd rather not get a cold right now." Duh! Matty couldn't blame her for that, so Matty waved the thought away. "It's no problem, I get it," he said, shrugging. He looked around the station for a moment, wondering just when the train would arrive. Then he turned back to the girl. "Cori," he repeated with a smile. "That's a nice name," he said. Matty was always one for the flirtatious comments. They were kind of his forte. But Matty was never pushy or overly confident in his flirting. He liked to make girls feel comfortable and at ease. He didn't want to scare them off with some big, inflated ego... much like some Gryffindor he could name.

He was making small talk. People were big fans of that apparently. It couldn't really hurt anything though. "Winter all the way," she laughed, "I just prefer to be all bundled up, that's all." She said. Most people liked winter because it was the Holiday season and the best time for romance and cuddling. That was the main point of winter that Cori hated the most. Everybody just loved and obsessed over being coupled off in the holidays. Even though it was when she felt the most comfortable in her own skin, it was when she felt the most lonely. "Though, it does have it's downsides," she found herself sighing out loud.
"I feel a lot of teenagers have the sugar addiction issue," she commented, trying to validate him. Cori wasn't really the biggest fan of sugar. But she wasn't the biggest fan of fun either, and the two sort of went hand in hand. She didn't really have that much in common with anyone her age, except for other angsty girls like Alice or tough girls like Maryn. Especially when it came to partying and sugar. Not really her thing, but she enjoyed a good flirting match every now and then.
She was relieved that he bought the 'don't want to catch a cold' thing. Cori wasn't even sure if she could catch a cold. She had minor ones in the past, but it never got that bad. She was going to have to look into that further. As he repeated her name with a smile and a compliment she raised an eyebrow at him. He was very straightforward with his kindness, which Cori didn't see often. She relaxed her face and nodded, "thanks. It was given to me by my mother, as was my middle name. Malia." Wow. Her emotions must really be on the fritz right now. Parents were on her mind though, because of the day so far.

Matty nodded at the brunette understandingly. "I can feel that," he said, thinking about the upcoming season. He enjoyed winter for the scenery more than the weather and the colder temperatures. If it were up to him, he would live somewhere where it was never cold. Matty then looked up at the girl when she let out a sigh. "Really? Your favorite season?" He let a little, harmless smile appear. "What might those downsides be?" He asked.
Matty nodded, a guilty look on his face as he shrugged. "You could say that again," he said as he shook the little bag of licorice in his hand. He then put it away, so he would not be tempted to dig into it before he got back to his dormitory.
When Coriander told him his middle name, Matty smiled once again. "Cori Malia," he repeated her name out loud. "Pretty name matches a pretty face," he looked over at her with soft eyes, so as to not seem straigtforward and insincere. "Your mother knew what she was doing," he let out a little chuckle.

She nodded as he smiled double checking that it was indeed her favorite season. "Downsides? I guess getting sick, like you are now," she gestured to his running nose and chuckled, "that's on obvious one." Another one was that winter brought the need and want for cuddling and closeness, something she wasn't comfortable to give nor able to. She didn't want to say that one out loud though, so she paused while trying to think of others. "Slipping on ice, no good. The lake freezing and therefore preventing wading, that's not great either." She raised an eyebrow, as if to check in with him and see if she had given enough reasons.
She laughed as he looked at his bag and put it away. "Perhaps if you share some amongst your house mates later than you won't eat as much," her eyes widened, "not that I'm implying that you need to avoid the sugar for any reason!" She shook her head and rolled her eyes at herself. Great, she was actually having a decent conversation and she practically calling the guy fat. That was a good way to go for a friendship.
"Thanks," Cori said, almost breathless as he complimented her name, her mother and her face. He was flirting with her, that much was sure. He didn't seem like a jerk about it though, which almost made her want to go along with it. She bit her lip as she though about what to say next, not sure if she should let the flirting continue or blow this guy off. She decided to remain silent for the moment, however, and let him decide where to take the conversation.

Matty looked at his nose, appearing cross eyed for a moment. He sniffed a little bit when she pointed out his illness but smiled at her nonetheless. Matty wasn't a very self concious person. He was as confident as they came... unless it came down to the loyalty of his family, but that was another story and topic altogether. One that Matty tried to steer clear from. Matty nodded in understanding as Cori named off reasons to dislike winter. He agreed with the wholeheartedly. "Ugh," he gave a visible shiver. "Two of my least favorite parts. I've had a few good wipeouts, let me tell ya," he said shaking his head at the many memories of slipping and falling flat on his rear end on the ice.
At the brunette's suggestion, Matty just laughed. "I guess I should take that advice just to avoid cavities," he chuckled, and then his thoughts went to his dorm mates. "Buuuttt it's a little hard for me to share, if you know what I mean," he just winked at Coriander. Really, Matty just didn't want to share his treats with the likes of his pals - he wanted them all to himself, but he appreciated the suggestion for he probably should lighten up on the sweets a little bit or he would be visiting Hogsmeade for the dentist next.
Matty's smile widened a bit as the girl thanked him. She was cute, that was for sure. But something about her made her seem like she was slightly uncomfortable with his obvious flirting so Matty decided to lay off a little bit to hopefully help her relax. "So, Coriander," he said, his tone changing to more of a friendly one. "I've defnitely seen you around school. What house are you in?" He asked, still keeping his smile on his face as he looked at her.

She smiled and gave a little laugh, "I have as well. The worst ones are when there is a large group of people around to see it," she shook her head. She shifted in her seat a little more, pulling her arms even closer to her. The thought of the winter and ice made her shiver as well, just as he had. "But Christmas season is lovely, isn't it?' she half meant that. She loved the lights and decorations. It was the romanticism of it all that she wasn't a fan of.
She was glad that he took her less-candy comment as a cavity issue, and not a weight issue. When he winked at her her face showed surprise for a short moment before slipping back into a casual smile. "Cavities. No good." She said. She cocked her head to the side and studied him for a moment. He was a flirt, sure, but his sickness was throwing him off his game. That's what she was assuming. Though, he still had a sweet charm about him. She couldn't help but smile at his attempts. Even though they were minimal at the moment, and a little strange.
When he spoke next she felt her shoulders relax a little. He was making small talk, not trying to delve into her personal life. That was good. She shrugged, "I'm a Ravenclaw. Seventh year." She added the last part with a slight smirk. She knew that this boy wasn't in her year, which of course meant he had to be younger than her. The question was how much younger. She cocked an eyebrow at him, "And you are?" she had a fairly good guess that it was Slytherin or Gryffindor. She just couldn't pinpoint which.

When the brunette laughed, Matty smiled to himself. Something about her made her different than all of the other girls... something about her told him that she wasn't an easy girl to make laugh but for some reason he had did just that. Matty gave a little wince. "Oooh, that's the worst in crowds," he agreed with her. "Some people just won't let you live that stuff down." He shook his own head, thinking of his friends who would likely make fun of him and give him hell for tripping. When the girl mentioned Christmas, Matty's eyes lit up. "Oh I do love Christmas," he said fondly. "That would definitely be my favorite holiday." Matty didn't have to think twice about it. He loved everything about the holiday. It was beautiful and the way everyone got around Christmas made Matty happy. These were thoughts he felt he could never express outloud to his family, though. Or his friends... simply because they were all guys who would give him a hard time.
When Coriander tilted her head to the side to watch him, Matty watched her in return. He let a small smile appear as he did so. At this point, Matty would have probably commented on a girl's hair or her eyes, but for some reason he didn't. There was just something different about Coriander that he couldn't quite put his finger on.
"Seventh year." Matty's eyes almost widened in a mix of surprise and satisfaction but he caught himself and remained casual. He nodded instead. "Ah, a Ravenclaw" he said teasingly. He straightened his posture a little bit. "I'm a Slytherin. Sixth year." He said proudly. Matty was proud of his house, but the assumptions that sometimes came along with being a Slytherin? Not so much. "A nice one," he added quickly with a grin, so as to come off as jokingly.

"I try to avoid crowds in general, which actually makes it worse when I biff it like that. They're probably thinking that I dropped down from the sky or something," she shook her head at the thought. Seriously, she doubted that anyone noticed her because she tried so hard not to be easily noticeable. If an occasion arose where she drew attention to herself people would most likely thing she had appeared out of thin air. Luckily, she hadn't done anything that drastic in a long time. She was planning to keep it that way this winter. But clumsiness often had a different agenda than she did. She wasn't a clumsy personal normally, but the winter and ice did that to people.
"Right?" she agreed with his comment about people not letting you live that down. If she did it around Maryn, the girl would most likely make sure she was okay first but then laugh about it for days later. Cori couldn't help but smile at the thought, though. It was nice to have friends to make fun of you. "I wouldn't say it's my favorite, but I'm not surprised it's yours giving your love for sweets," she chuckled, pointing out their earlier conversation.
For some reason it seemed that fact that she was a Seventh year interested the boy. Well, it was a little interesting. She had only one year left. That kind of made her the perfect candidate for a boy to whew, no later-year commitment or anything. She hoped that wasn't what he was thinking. She couldn't deny that his smile could've meant that, but it really could have meant anything. It was very kind, very neutral. She liked that. She smiled and gave a little bow of her head as he teased about her house. She also nodded as he described himself as a 'nice' Slytherin, "Well, that's a relief. I'm not really in the mood to deal with an unkind Slytherin... however," she cleared her throat and shrugged her shoulders, "I am not the nicest Ravenclaw." She made a face like what-are-you-gonna-do-'bout-it.
