Groups of students—boys and girls alike—were chattering as they entered the disused classroom on the fourth floor in which they had been called to meet on the final evening of November. Absent of chairs or desks, they found places to sit on the floor around the room's perimeter, as the center of the room had been reserved as a dance floor on which they would be able to practice.
It was rather unusual for Parvati to be addressing so much of Gryffindor House at once, and she watched the crowd of adolescents before her with the expectation that they would pipe down eventually. When she met with students, rarely were there more than three or four of them at a time, and even that estimation was a generous one. As an event that was being held jointly with the Ministry of Magic, however, it was imperative that the students understood that their behavior at the Yule Ball needed to reflect well on the staff who were supposed to be shaping their minds over most of the year.
For the woman now known as “Madam Macmillan”, just the thought of the Yule Ball brought back memories of a time that had been much simpler. She had been in her fourth year of school when Hogwarts had last hosted the Triwizard Tournament, and it was so strange for her to think that most of the students to whom she would be speaking were older now than she had been then, including one of her own sons, her niece, and her nephew.
She couldn't guarantee that the night of December 25th would be everything that they had ever hoped it would be, but it hadn't gone exactly as planned for her, either. Harry Potter had had two left feet, and she had ended up dancing with a young man from Beauxbatons. If only she had known then that she was going to end up divorced from Ernie Macmillan…
The one thing that she could do was make sure that her Gryffindors knew how to dance a basic waltz. Some would probably be dreading it—or dreadful at it—but Parvati hoped that they all would be able to enjoy themselves, in the end.
Instructions: Like some of the other threads before it, this thread will have no strict posting order. However, after every five student posts, I will be posting Parvati again to keep the lesson moving. Please, guys, have fun with this! You all know how wonderfully awkward teenagers are.

Lily was ecastic about this dance lesson! She knew a bit about dancing, but didn't pay much attention to be any good at it. She arrived in the room and grinned at Madame Macmillan. "Hello!" she greeted her happily. "Ready to dance!" she announced. She wasn't in her robes, of course not. Lily didn't wear them except for when she was in classes. She was wearing a black sweater with a little white collar, black tights and little black shorts. She looked adorable, at least she thought so!
She was pretty sure that Adrian would bail on this thing but that was all right, there were plenty of other guys in her house for her to dance with. She wasn't really planning on caring that much about how well she danced anyway. It just sounded fun!

Daryl's aunt was having a dancing practice thingy, and although he already knew how to dance he was going to be respectful and go for her. He would probably be a helper, if she found it necessary to walk among the couples and help their stature and such. He didn't mind that, dancing was fun and he wanted everyone to have a great time at The Yule Ball. Daryl was going alone, which he preferred anyways. He could charm all the single girls or those whose hearts have been broken.
As he walked into the classroom, he saw only his aunt and Lily. Daryl walked over to Padma and kissed her cheek. "'Ello, Auntie." He glanced to Lily and saw that she was also not in her robes such as he and he wiggled his fingers at her, smiling. "Hello Miss. Potter. How are you?" Daryl got closer as he spoke. Him and Lily were friendly, they'd known each other for quite awhile now and Daryl enjoyed her company. "You ready to dance?"

What a day it had been so far. The morning had been rather nice, but then he had run into his sister while trying to figure out where Ondina was. And then came the third degree from telling Addi about how he was taking Ondina to the Yule Ball. And now he was sitting here in an abandoned classroom with the rest of the Gryffindors, apparently being expected to dance or something like that. Grey didn’t even know if he could dance, but it was probably better to learn now before completely making a fool out of himself at the real thing. That wouldn’t look too good in front of Ondina.
A couple brave souls had already stood up to start the dancing, the rest seemed rather hesitant about it. Figured. Grey scanned the room to see if there were any girls he’d actually have fun practicing to dance with. Then he spotted her. Lily was obviously already on her feet. If he could get to her before anyone else then he wouldn’t have to try as hard at the whole dancing thing. Even if he had wanted to take it seriously, she never would have let him. Hopping to his feet, Grey quickly moved towards her, only slowing down when he saw Daryl approach her as well. No way in hell he was letting that happen.
“Excuse me Daryl,” Grey said, squeezing into the space between his roommate and Lily. “You’re going to have to wait until the real thing if you want to dance with Lily.” He gave Daryl a wink and turned back towards Lily, holing his hand out to her. “Any idea how to do this?”

Lily smiled brightly when Daryl walked in, looking fine as ever. He was such a good looking guy and so dang nice, too! She had always liked him, known him most of her life. He approached her soon and Lily giggled at his greeting and nodded at his question. "I am! Don't you look dashing," she complimented, reaching a hand out to place on his shoulder. But before her hand could reach, Grey was suddenly there slipping in between them.
Lily let out a snort-like laugh and raised an eyebrow at Grey. "Aren't you possessive," oh, if only Adrian could see her now. Lily leaned slightly to look at Darly behind him and shrugged, "guess we'll be dancing at the ball, darling, if you save a dance for me," she winked, and then straightened out to look at Grey again, who held his hand out to her. "Yes, a little," she was lying, she knew it well enough that she didn't really need instruction because she didn't care about the specifics. "Hopefully Madame Macmillan is a good teacher, eh?"

Cecelia wasn't in the mood for dancing. She wasn't in the mood, and she knew how to dance anyways, and it probably made zero sense to anyone else as to why she was at the dancing lesson. The reason was simple enough, though; Cecelia wanted to support Madam Macmillan. The Head of Gryffindor had obviously made quite the effort to put this lesson together, and for any of the children, let alone one of the House's prefects, to turn their nose up at that effort was just rude. If there was anything that Cecelia Rousseau wasn't, it was rude. She had worn rather loose-fitting clothes, partially because she wanted freedom of movement, but partially because she didn't want anyone to see that she was once again beginning to fade away into something more skeleton than human. Cecelia had tried not to let Desi's death take her life away, too, but after the smashed plate incident, she felt like everyone was watching her all the time, waiting for her to go on a murderous rampage to avenge her sister or something of the sort. When Cecelia stepped into the room, she scanned those who were already assembled, balking. None of them would want to dance with her...would they?

Parvati smiled as her nephew greeted her with a quick kiss on the cheek. “'Ello, Auntie.”
“Hello, Daryl,” she replied back to him. She was sure that he would be looking forward to having his mother and father there, as well as his aunt, to keep an eye on his behavior.
Watching as a few of the students were beginning to get ahead of themselves, Parvati thought that it would be the right time to start in on the lesson at hand. “Now,” she began, clapping her hands together to get their attention, “as Professor Longbottom reminded you at the First Task, the Yule Ball is quickly approaching.”
She walked back and forth in the space in front of the students, hoping that she wouldn't have to magically amplify the sound of her voice so that she could be properly heard. “And, as I am sure you all know, the Yule Ball is a dance, and it is a traditional part of the Triwizard Tournament. We at Hogwarts are privileged to be the hosts this year, especially because the Ministry of Magic have decided to combine their annual Christmas Ball with our event.”
Expecting some groans at that piece of information, Parvati wasted no time for complaints and continued on as enthusiastically as she could. “It is very important that your behavior reflect well on your teachers and friends. We do have the Hogwarts Champion in our midst.”
“I know that learning to dance is not compulsory, but I hope that you'll find that this was a productive use of your time. If everyone could find a partner, please…” Parvati eyed Lily Potter and smiled. “Lily, would you care to demonstrate with me?” She offered out her hand and prayed that Lily hadn't inherited Harry's lack of coordination.

More Gryffindors showed up and Madame Macmillan got started. Lily stood between Grey and Daryl, listening to the instructions about how it was a dance, formal, and blah blah blah. Yeah, she knew all that. The Ministry combining was good news, considering her parents worked for the Ministry and whatnot. It was all well and goo, but she was ready to start moving! She was starting to zone out, tapping her foot insistently and impatiently. Then, suddenly (well sudden to spacey Stacy here) Paravati was asking Lily to be her dance partner.
Lily grinned, raising an eyebrow at Daryl and then Grey in turn. Then, she flipped her hair over her shoulder, not caring if it hit Grey in the face, and marched over to Parvati and took her hand. "Why, of course I will, Madame Macmillan!" she turned to face the two boys again and winked before turning back to Parvati, "I'm all yours."
