Astoria was planning a day for her students to learn to dance. The Yule Ball was coming up fast, and she knew some of them would need this extra practice. There was a large area in the Dungeons that was the perfect place; it was big enough for all of the students and it was also close to the Common Room. As she walked in she smiled and with a quick flick of her wrist a record player emerged and she began searching through the discs, finding a perfect one and sliding in.
There was about fifteen students she was waiting on. One of them being her son; Astoria was sure he'd be fine with dancing, however...she hadn't seen him dance in quite a long time and wasn't sure how well Scorpius would do. This group may be difficult to uphold, but she had been doing it for many years now so this one time where they all meet together for something fun shouldn't be very worrisome. Astoria stood in front of the record player, hands clasped together as she glanced at the door, awaiting their entry.
** There is no posting order for this thread, and it is also not required for you to post in! Just something enjoyable for your characters and a great way to learn to dance! Every eight posts I will be throwing Astoria in once more. Enjoy! <3

Theodosia already knew how to dance. Every self-respecting pureblood did. She was coming to the Slytherin's dancing lesson more as a way to show off her own skills. Then again, there was probably going to be some poor sod who didn't know how to dance. While Theodosia shuttered at the thought of having to teach a Mudblood how to dance, she knew that her Head of House wasn't going to be of any help, the fat cow that she was. Theodosia entered the room where they were going to be taught and immediately rolled her eyes. Of course no one else had bothered to be punctual. Theo ignored her Head of House, not greeting her when she stepped into the room. Theodosia had no time for that blood traitor. She leaned casually against the wall, looking at a spot opposite her with a disinterest that was most certainly not feigned. Hopefully someone worth talking to would show up soon.

Zaire entered and immediately noticed Theo across the room and no one else. There wasn't anyone else there but them at the moment. How it was possible that he wasn't the last person here amazed him as it was almost ingrained in him to be late and last to almost everything. The whole idea of a dance lesson for Slytherin House seemed kind of odd considering that it was lesser to not know how in pureblood society. This must be for the less than savory that somehow slid their way into the house. He glanced in the direction of their head of house and moved to the side of the room where Theo stood. He smirked at his betrothed. The look on her face was priceless. Her hate for the Malfoys was palpable in that moment and she was looking anywhere but at the professor. "That wall is kind of boring isn't it?"

The best thing about Zaire was that he never let Theodosia down. Just when she was considering leaving so she couldn’t have to be alone with the insufferable Malfoy, her betrothed appeared. Even if Theodosia could never love Zaire romantically, she would be in remiss to say that she didn’t love him in every other way that there was, especially his sense of humor. She smirked when he asked if the wall was boring. “What else was I supposed to look at while I was waiting for you?” Theo asked. The Slytherin then added something under her breath, eyes flickering momentarily towards Professor Malfoy. “The gargoyle?” At least now that Zai was here, Theodosia wouldn’t feel obligated to dance with every toe-stomper that there was. Theo stepped away from the wall, preparing to dance. “Guess this is good practice for our wedding, hmm?” She asked, all humor gone from her voice. Marrying Zaire wasn’t what she wanted with her life, but Theodosia didn’t have much of a choice.

He should have known to expect a sharp quip from Theo when it came to the Astronomy professor but when she muttered about her being a gargoyle, Zai coughed and burst out laughing, the sound catching momentarily in his throat. Not wanting to be rude he pat his chest and cleared his throat, though his amusement remain. "Gargoyle? Interesting choice since she is standing their looking terribly odd staring at the door" he whispered back to her. His eyes flickered over to the professor of topic. At some point people had thought of her as a prize and one of the most envied women in all of pureblood society. Currently the Malfoys stood somewhere between disgraced and pitiful and enviable; they were still very very rich and good looking if you were into the whole 'blood traitor' type. Z followed her out from the wall, listening to her as she spoke of their far off wedding. Her voice held no excitement nor malice, just a deadpan seriousness. He tried not to feel hurt by it. He succeeded in hiding it though. "You never know. Maybe your parents might realize you're too good for any one of us" he smirked at her. She was brilliant and could have her pick of anyone. It didn't work like that, but she could.

Zaire laughed at her, and that made Theodosia feel oddly warm inside. She was beginning to pay more attention to her best friend now, now that he had successfully navigated her through the storm that was everything that had happened with Maxima Greyback. “Are you insulting my inability to insult her?” Theodosia asked with a raised eyebrow. Honestly, anyone who couldn’t effectively insult their Head of House didn’t deserve to be in Slytherin. Astoria Malfoy was a veritable garden of undesirable traits, all ripe for insulting. “Or are you agreeing?” Hopefully the latter, Theodosia thought with a small smirk. She wouldn’t be afraid to turn her sharp tongue on Zai if he deserved it.
Theodosia rested her hand on Zaire’s shoulder, extending her hand to him so that they could begin dancing. “Even if I had a choice, I think I’d pick you.” Theo said. It seemed unlikely that she would find a pureblood girl who would want to marry her, so Zaire was the least of all the evils. Theodosia thought about it often, and she always reached the conclusion that she wouldn’t mind getting to spend the rest of her life with Zaire Shafiq. “Should we start, or wait for the hag to tell us what we already know?” Maybe no one else was planning to grace them with their presence, and it would just be Zaire and Theodosia, showing Professor Malfoy that they didn’t need any of her help.

The smirk that appeared on her had him mirroring her. He almost told that he was insulting her, just to see what she would say. She had that look in her eye, the one she got when she had a comeback so well crafted that it was bound to burn. Those were the moments she shined. "What I'm saying is at any moment now she's going to hunch over and turn to stone. She'll scare off any student trying to come into the door" he snickered in amusement. He couldn't necessarily say he was afraid of what she might have said; he probably would have been more amused than hurt by it if hurt at all.
As she rested her hand upon his shoulder, he grabbed it gently, took a step back and bowed before placing it back in its position and grasping her other outstretched hand. He smiled at her words, looking down and placing his other hand at her waist in proper form. "We should. She'll see that it was an idiotic idea to even hold this. Anyone who matters doesn't even need the lesson which is why it seems no one else has shown up" he rolled his eyes. With a nod, he began leading her in a simple waltz, just as he was trained. This was second nature, drilled into him since he was very young. It wasn't that he minded really, dancing came I handy when you wanted to impress a potential partner. It was boring either so that was a plus.

Theodosia didn’t bother to hide her laughter when Zaire said that their head of house looked like she was about to hunch over and turn into stone. Let Malfoy know her students were laughing at her – she was stupid to think she had any of their respect in the first place. “You mean her hunchback is going to get even worse?” Theodosia asked, eyes shining. Astoria didn’t really have a hunchback, of course, but it was still funny to poke fun at her and her obvious shortcomings. As for scaring people off, well, their Head of House didn’t even need to be made of stone for that to happen. Her personality was atrocious enough.
Theodosia rolled her eyes when Zaire removed her hand from his shoulder so that he could bow properly to her. “What, do I have to curtsy?” Theo asked in a tone that made it obvious she wasn’t going to do anything of the sort. They returned to proper dancing position, and Theo smiled at her betrothed. “Maybe it’s because she forgot to teach her own spawn how to dance, and thought this would be as good of a time as any.” Theo said lightly. If anyone were to overhear her and Zaire as they waltzed across the floor, the tone of their conversation would seem polite and casual, as if they were talking about the weather instead of hurling insults. “I’m glad you came.” Theo said. If they hadn’t been dancing, she would have shrugged her shoulders, just so Zaire didn’t get it into his big head that she was actually glad to see him. She just didn’t want to be partnered with anyone else, or worse, Professor Malfoy.

Her laughter lit up the room and he grinned knowing he caused it. Well, it was partially due to him, most of it was knowing that they were speaking of the professor as if she wasn't in the room and she didn't care so it amused her. Making her laugh was on the short list of his favorite things to do though so he was happy. "That and the gaping pores of her face will start swallowing students whole," he laughed as his amusement continued. He took a quick glance at the professor to see if she was reacting to any of their laughter. She had to know that they were talking about her by now right? Either way he really only did it for Theodosia. He didn't care enough about the professor to criticize her many shortcomings but he did like hearing her laugh.
Z found himself rolling his eyes as she had done. Of course he bowed, just because the present company they found themselves in was less than didn't mean he had to be a barbarian. So what he'd bowed to her? It was standard when dancing to show respect to your partner. He found himself a bit miffed that she'd refused. Then she smiled and he felt better instantly. He smirked as she insulted the Malfoys so casually as they danced. "Maybe this is a refresher since clearly she hasn't been anywhere acceptable in a while" he muttered haphazardly. He focused momentarily on their waltz, swaying and turning with her gracefully. He had to admit it felt nice dancing with her even if it'd come about because of the professor's ignorance. "I'm glad you came." The words were nonchalant. He gave her a spin just to hide his smile. It came and left as quickly as she twirled and came back to him, replaced by a smirk. "You should be. It would have just been the two of you and I think it may have ended with you in detention," his smirk remained in place but his heart was feeling a little bit lighter than usual. He really had to stop with this lovesick debacle, it didn't become him.

All of their professors had been acting as if their reputations were on the line because of one night, though Maxima Greyback wasn't too concerned about the Yule Ball. Her “date” was her half-sister Jamie, who wasn't going to care if she could dance beautifully or not. It was against her better judgment that she had made the effort to go to the dance lesson that Professor Malfoy had scheduled for the Slytherins, and, as soon as she arrived, Max knew that she should have stayed in her dormitory; Theodosia Washington and Zaire Shafiq were there, the only ones who had shown up, too.
Max ignored them for as long as possible. It was enough to have to have classes with the two of them, though she had been indebted to Theodosia since Halloween night. That didn't mean that she was planning on dropping everything and tagging along with Theo's friends like the dog they probably thought she was, but she could at least be civil towards her.
Watching as Zaire led Theodosia in a basic waltz, Max wasn't sure what to do besides stay out of their way. Even if she ended up dancing with a boy in another year—or even a girl, for that matter—she didn't want to risk being mocked for having to be partnered with a teacher. Hearing bits and pieces of the conversation that her classmates were having, Max knew that they were talking about the professor and not her, although she couldn't be sure for how long that would last.

Liona's shoes were clicking very hurriedly on the stone floor as she walked into the area where her aunt had said she'd be holding dance practice for a ball. She didn't really need the practice but she was happy that it was her aunt Tori who'd be teaching it. Of course she couldn't call her aunt Tori during school. Professor Malfoy was a great professor who just also happened to be her beloved aunt. She noticed that Theodosia Washington and Zaire Shafiq had already begun dancing, speaking and giggling as they did so. Maxima Greyback was standing off to the side doing what she assumed was waiting for Aunt To-- Professor Malfoy to officially start the lesson. She was pretty late and felt terrible about it but she was glad to see that she hadn't missed anything. "I am so sorry for my tardiness Professor Malfoy! I lost track of time but I am here now," she stepped over to the side, nodding at Professor Malfoy apologetically before looking at the others in the room and giving a smile.
