Calliope was excited for the Yule Ball; her and Calex were making their official ‘couple’ debut. She’d seen the Gossip Witch's’ article calling the two of them out but she had shrugged it off; at this point Blaise was aware of what was going on and he was the only one aside from Caroline that Callie had been worried about telling. She had chosen a floor length emerald green dress with sheer paneling in the back and glittering details over the front. Her long red hair was up in an elegant updo and emerald diamond earrings dangled from her ears. As she left her chambers next to the Hufflepuff Common Room, she saw Calex waiting there for her and she smiled widely. “Don’t you look handsome?” she said, leaning in to kiss him. She slipped her arm through the crook of his elbow. “Shall we head up?” she asked. @jaeger dressy

calex smiled as he watched some of the girls going to the ball come down in their gowns, giggling excitedly to themselves about what the night would hold. he had to admit he was excited about the night ahead, a little apprehensive about what could happen but he didn't want to think about it. “Don’t you look handsome?” there was the girl he was waiting for. he smiled more as he returned the kiss and bent the crook of his arm when she slipped her hand into it. "i might look handsome, but i'm sure it dulls in comparison next to you" he said as he looked down at the dress she was wearing. it was stunning on her, the fabric hugged her curves as well as he had over the last few months and he didn't think he'd ever been jealous of a dress before in his life but he was now. “Shall we head up?” he nodded and started to make his way to the door with her. the night was young. it would stay young too, the teachers had to stay up past the point when the children headed to bed, though he didn't think there would be much sleeping going on when he and callie went back to a room.

Calliope giggled as she looked down at her dress; she did clean up rather nicely, didn't she? “Thank you my love, but I am equally as fine as the man whose arm I hold,” she declared, squeezing his arm warmly. She could see some of the stragglers rushing up from the dungeons past them to the upstairs, no doubt worrying about meeting their dates on time. One group of girls stopped and stared at the two of them; Calliope gave them a warm smile and shooed them on and off they went giggling. One though, one girl looked back and smiled. Well, at least the idea of the Head of Hufflepuff and Deputy Headmaster being in a relationship was not so strange to everyone.
They walked into the Great Hall, which had been transformed into a wintery wonderland, and she had to hold back a squal of a delight. “Oh Calex, they did such a lovely job,” she breathed, beaming widely. What a vision it was; and what hard work the student leadership had put into it. She'd heard that the Head Boy and Girl had led quite tireless efforts to make sure everything was prepared for Christmas; she made a mental note for when she saw Gaius and Rose later to congratulate them on a job well done. Now however, was time for her and Calex. She led him out onto the dance floor; she let go of his hand only to twirl around once on her own. “Well, don't just stand there,” she said to him, holding out both her hands. “Come and dance with me.”

“Oh Calex, they did such a lovely job,” he couldn't argue with her. it didn't look like the usual hall and that was a testament to the students who had worked hard in planning the ball. he looked around as they walked in through the doors, his hand resting on callie's as it sat in the crook of his arm. he walked with her onto the dance floor and he straightened his arm when she danced away from him and he smiled. he watched her dance around him, moving on his feet so he faced her at all times and he folded his hands loosely across his chest. “Well, don't just stand there,” he took a moment to consider when she held her hands to him and he laughed softly and dropped his own hands from his chest and he reached out to clasp his hands around hers. “Come and dance with me.” he felt his fingers close around hers and he tugged her close to him, careful of the dress she wore and he looked down at her, his fingers running down one of her bare arms to entwine his fingers with hers. "i might step on your feet" he warned her.

Calliope just giggled as Calex told her he might step on her feet. "I know," she said matter-of-factly. But even so, she took one hand in hers and, after placing it on her waist, she took his other hand and squeezed it. "That's why I will lead," she told him with a smile. The music began to swell, a beautiful slow waltz, perfect for a beginner dancer like Calex. She began to lead him onto the dance floor, making sure they were not too close to other couples in case Calex stumbled. "Just remember the counts, one, two, three, one, two three," she said, still steering him around. She noticed some of the students glancing their way, but she found that she cared less and less. She was happy to have this out in the open; Calliope was not someone who hid her secrets away in a dark cupboard, so the relief she had felt when Calex agreed to make their relationship public was immense. "You're not doing so bad," she commented; he hadn't stepped on either of her feet yet so that was good in her books. She stopped them, and spun out slowly then made her way back in. "Want to try a dip?" she asked him.

"That's why I will lead," he laughed slightly and nodded as they moved out onto the dance floor. he noticed they were slightly away from some of the other couples but he didn't mind that. he had two left feet when it came to dancing and as much as he didn't mind it he wanted callie to enjoy her night as much as possible and he wanted to get the dancing right. funny how he felt like a nervous teenager wanting his date to have a good time and not be embarrassed. he guessed it was one of those things that never truly left them. "You're not doing so bad," he laughed slightly again and nodded, his arm going a little more around her waist as he thought about the steps they were taking. "well i haven't broken a bone in your foot yet so, good sign" he said as he dipped his head down to kiss her cheek softly before she spun out and away from him. "Want to try a dip?" he nodded slightly and shifted his other hand to he could catch and dip her when she spun back to him. "dip away?" he said with a wink at her.

Calliope giggled as he commented he hadn't broken any bones in her foot yet; she was very grateful for that. She'd broken her foot once and she had absolutely no desire to repeat that break ever again if she could help it. He had come close to stepping on her toes though but Callie was lucky enough to have noticed and got her feet out of the way. She smiled as he agreed to dip her and she gently leaned back; his arms were strong though and she didn't feel like she was going to fall back. She came back up and greeted him with another kiss.
The song ended and Callie clapped for the orchestra. "Come on, let's sit down and eat something," she said, taking his hand in hers and leading him over to a small table. She sat down and crossed her legs. "I think I'll have the leg of lamb," she said after studying the menu. The lamb appeared on her empty plate and she smiled; it was a mechanism that the house elves only had to do for big special events, but it was still fascinating all the same.

"Come on, let's sit down and eat something," he had just about finished clapping when she took his arm and lead them toward a table. he smiled and followed her across the dance floor, his hand around hers as he moved to sit in the chair next to her. if he'd been quick enough he'd have pulled her chair out for him but she'd beaten him to it. as usual she was one step ahead of him and he wasn't going to complain about it. he looked at the menu as she read it and agreed that the lamb seemed like a nice choice. "i think i'll have the same" he said with a grin as it turned up on the plate before him. he'd never get used to that. he had never been the worlds best cook, mush preferring easy meals that didn't take much effort because he'd accepted long ago that he'd never be a genius in the kitchen. he had known enough to keep blaise happy and healthy food wise so that had been enough. "so do you think we've finished getting the shocked stares?" he said with a chuckle as he glanced around the great hall.

Calliope laughed as Calex asked if they would ever be finished getting the shocked stares. “I’d give it a few more weeks; when the younger students come back from holiday. Luckily we know at least one that knows and is fine with it,” she told him. She was relieved that Blaise had been accepting about the whole situation; not that Callie REALLY thought he wouldn’t be, it was nice to hear that he was happy for them all the same. They’d be joining Blaise at his grandparents tomorrow for a belated Christmas dinner, which Callie would be helping cook.
They ate in a comfortable silence, watching the students twirl around the dance floor. Callie recognized many of her students and thought how fine they all looked in their dresses and dress robes. “I love seeing the dresses girls choose to wear to balls; it really shows their personalities, don’t you think?” she said, taking another bite. One girl, not a Hogwarts students, had on a dress that was incredibly revealing; almost too much so for Callie’s taste. But Calex’s eyes were only on her, and that was all that mattered.

“I’d give it a few more weeks; when the younger students come back from holiday. Luckily we know at least one that knows and is fine with it,” well that was true. while it had seemed to take blaise a few days to come around to the idea that him and callie were together, he seemed to be taking it well which was a good sign. he'd still be careful for the next while in case any issues came up with it or in case blaise had a problem with it that he hadn't before but for now he was hopeful. "yes, one out of .. how many?" he said with a soft laugh. he didn't think any other students opinions would matter, only one really did, but he felt that the students would give it no matter what.
“I love seeing the dresses girls choose to wear to balls; it really shows their personalities, don’t you think?” he nodded slightly as he took a mouthful of food. they were all pretty dresses, each girl had seemed to pick well and he couldn't see any that would be considered distasteful so that was a plus, it showed a level of maturity for both the student and the parent, or one or the other. "i do think so. they all look wonderful" he said as he reached his hand to touch her arm and he smiled at her. "though i do think you have the nicest."

Calliope shrugged her shoulders lightly. “I don’t really think the students care further than the fact that it’s a tidbit of juicy gossip. They’ll just talk about it amongst themselves for a little bit, and then stop caring. There are far more important things in a teenagers life than two professors dating,” she reasoned, cutting up a piece of lamb and biting into it. It was delicious and savory; as usual the house elves had outdone themselves. Callie kept silent for awhile as she ate; the mashed potatoes and greens were a perfect accompaniment to the lamb and she was happy to eat until her belly was full.
As she polished off the last bite of her now clean plate, Calliope looked over to Calex. She smiled as he told her her dress was the nicest. “Thank you; a friend helped pick it out for me,” she said happily. She dabbed her napkin at her lips and stood up. “Want to go for a walk? I’m a bit full but I’m not sure I can handle dancing right now,” she asked him.

“Want to go for a walk? I’m a bit full but I’m not sure I can handle dancing right now,” he smiled as he rested his knife and fork in the middle of his empty plate and he nodded. he could handle a walk at that very moment. it would give them the opportunity to check out what had been done to the grounds. the inside of the castle looked very nice so he was curious to see how the gardens had been changed as well. "i'd love a walk." he said as he moved to stand up and he slid his chair under the table, stepping next to callie's chair and he held his hand out to her to help her up. they had tonight, just them. tomorrow it would become more about someone else and he wanted to just enjoy the next few hours with her, even though they would be in a room full of other people he wanted to make it feel like it was just them. "shall we check out the gardens?"

Calliope smiled, taking his hand as he helped her up out of the seat. Sliding her arm through the crook of his elbow. "The gardens sound lovely," she agreed. They walked outside, admiring the views of the transformed gardens. The twinkling fairy lights, the exquisite blooming flowers, even the small market place that had foods from around the world. The students all seemed to be enjoying themselves; she spotted a dark haired couple leaving the hedges looking rather pleased with themselves. Calliope shook her head and chuckled; she didn't want to know. As they made their way back from the gardens, Calliope noticed a commotion in the Entrance Hall. She pulled aside a student and asked what happened - Jamie Greyback had fainted and was currently in the Hospital Wing. Jamie, one of her students, her Quidditch Captain, and a werewolf. Of course; Callie glanced back up at the moon. It was nearly full, the lunar cycle must be affecting her. "I have to see to my student my darling," she told him apologetically. She reached up on her toes and kissed him gently. "I'll see you later tonight," she promised, then followed the student back up to the Hospital Wing. END CALLIE <3
