Viola nodded when Brandon asked if he was not creepy since people didn’t notice him. “Yup, that’s exactly how it works.” They had forgotten that not everyone else was observant as the pair of them were. And then the fact that they were talking to each other while observing was also helpful in seeming less creepy, at least for now, because people just assumed they needed something to look at while they talked.
Viola snorted when Brandon asked if he was going to be dancing the guy’s or the girl’s part. “You can keep your masculinity intact and do the guy’s part, don’t worry.” They said with a roll of her eyes, even though it had been a joke. “I’m multi-talented, so I can do either part.” They added with a smirk.

Brandon laughed. He wasn't laughing at Viola, per say, just the fact that he was in the middle of such a strange conversation. It wasn't a bad thing, he just thought it was funny. "Well I'm glad we're both on the same page now," he said as he continued to watch the people moving up and down the stairs in front of him. He didn't normally have someone with him when he was watching people, but it was nice, in a way. He wasn't all by himself, he had someone to talk to.
He chuckled again when Viola said he could do the guy's part. "Thanks, I appreciate that," he teased, deciding that she was teasing him as well. "That does make you very talented," he agreed, with only a hint of sarcasm. He wasn't sure if she'd sense it, but he was joking so it was all good.

Viola snorted when Brandon said they were both on the same page. That was one way to put it. Brandon seemed to be focusing back in on the people in front of them, and that didn’t bother Viola one bit. Sometimes a break in the conversation was good, if only so they didn’t end up going in circles or something like that. Viola couldn’t remember the last time they had talked to someone this long…Well, there was Roxy, but that was Roxy, so she didn’t really count. Well, she counted, but in a different way, Viola was pretty sure.
“Don’t I know it.” Viola said, shaking their head a little. “Do you think I could make it as a professional ballroom dancer or something?” They didn’t exactly look the part of a dancer, that was for sure, with the shaved head and tendency to glare rather than smile, but Viola was hoping that they could find something to do with their life after school. Ballroom dancing was as good of a shot as anything else right now.

It was nice being able to stand there and have someone to talk to, but also nice to stand there in companionable silence. At least, that's how Brandon saw it. They weren't arguing or anything, so why wouldn't it be considered companionable? Either way, they stood there for a while just watching the people in front of them and Brandon enjoyed the silence.
Brandon smiled when Viola asked if she would make a good professional ballroom dancer. He shrugged a little, still smiling. "Well I don't know anything about how you would become one, but if that's what you want to do, I think you certainly can." Brandon was a big advocate for people following their dreams and doing things they cared about. If she cared about dancing, then why not become a ballroom dancer? She already knew the parts, so that was good for her.

“I don’t have a damn clue either.” Viola said with a chuckle when Brandon admitted that he had no idea how anyone would become a professional ballroom dancer. Especially not a wizarding ballroom dancer, since those probably didn’t exist. “I don’t really want to do it.” Viola admitted. “But there’s literally nothing that I’ve heard of that I want to spend the rest of my life doing, you know? None of it…shines.” They sighed, and then went back to staring at the throngs of people rushing by. “Maybe I’m destined to be unemployed my entire life.” Which wouldn’t be that bad of a thing, really, but Viola hated not being able to do anything. They hated the idea of just sitting at home all day, but they also hated the idea of spending the rest of their life as a mindless drone doing something they weren’t passionate about.

Apparently Viola wasn't certain about how they could become a professional dancer either. Not that it really seemed like that was something they wanted to do. This was definitely something that confused Brandon about the wizarding community. Why was it so hard to find something you wanted to do? Ever since he was a kid he knew that he wanted to do something with music. Music had always been his life, though magic also had a deep role to play with him as well. Still, was it familial pressure that kept people from doing things that they loved or did they just have a hard time finding things they enjoyed doing. Brandon nodded when Viola said that nothing stood out to her for a job. "Well what are some things that you like?" He asked, the Hufflepuff attitude coming out in him. Not that he knew work opportunities better than Viola did, but maybe he could come up with something that hadn't been thought of before. AT least, he would do his best.

What did they like? That list was short, but maybe it would give Viola – or Brandon – some ideas. “I like boats and the ocean a lot.” Viola paused. “Fisherman? Do they still get paid to fish? Or could I like…I dunno, sail back and forth? Is that a job?” Sailors weren’t really en vogue anymore, were they? And it didn’t really make sense to sail when they had owls and Apparition. Not to mention boats were only nice for a little bit at a time. Viola wouldn’t want to sail all day every day, especially not if they were alone. That would be boring. “I like musicals?” Viola said, unsure why that sounded more like a question than a statement of something that she liked. “I mean, not sure if I’ve got the pipes to do that sort of thing, but maybe I could be a director?” Hey…that actually wasn’t such a bad idea. Viola was good at being honest with people and telling them what to do, and they had a good grasp of what made a good musical. Huh. Maybe…

Brandon listened while Viola said that they liked boats and the ocean. Well that was interesting. Definitely not something he expected, but also neat at the same time. His eyebrows furrowed when they suggested fishermen. “I don’t know if fisherman is really something people do anymore. And if they do, I’m sure it’s not in the magical community.” He thought for a minute, trying to help them come up with a job that might have something to do with the water. “I don’t know if sailing is a job, but maybe if you studied the animals from the sea? Would that count or be something you could be interested in?” Brandon wasn’t sure if animals were Viola’s thing at all, but he could suggest it, couldn’t he? He smiled when she said she liked musicals. “That’s cool. Directing is neat too, from what I’ve heard. If that’s the route you want you could search out musical talent or things like that also.” It seemed slightly ironic to Brandon that he was suggesting this, knowing that he wanted to go into music, but he wasn’t telling them that, so at least he didn’t feel like he was using Viola’s indecision.

Brandon confirmed Viola’s fears about fishing as a career path, but that was fine, since they hadn’t actually been expecting that to be a good career option. “Wizards still like fish sticks.” They argued. There had to be such a thing as a magical fisherman, right? Even if that wasn’t something that Viola want to do, and it wasn’t a big thing anymore, it had to exist somewhere. Viola wrinkled their nose when Brandon suggested studying animals of the sea. “No thank you.” They hated animals – mostly because of horrible allergies, but also because they hated the idea of having to keep a precise journal of everything that they did or found. And waterproof parchment? Way too hard to find, especially if they were going to be at sea for a long time.
“I could not be a talent scout.” Viola said with a shake of their head. “I would just crush everyone’s dreams, and then no one would ever want to be an actor, and then there would be no one for me to direct.” They were way too blunt for talent scouting, and that wasn’t going to change anytime soon.

Brandon nodded, “Yes, but do wizards really make fish sticks? I don’t know about you but I’m too lazy for that. I just buy them from muggles.” Now that she mentioned it there probably was some hermit fisherman somewhere that harvested fish using magic, but he’d never heard of that kind of a job. Apparently she didn’t like the idea of studying sea animals either. Brandon chuckled softly at the look on her face at the suggestion.
She shook her head, saying she couldn’t be a talent scout. He smiled, remembering what she said about preferring to tell the truth. That made sense, in a way. It would be much easier to direct, when you just tell people what to do. “Well then directing sounds like a good option for you,” he agreed with what she seemed to have already decided. Then he decided to add just a little bit more, “You could always explore your different options for a while if that doesn’t work out.”

Viola shrugged when Brandon asked if wizards made fish sticks. “There are wizards who never go out into the Muggle world.” Viola reminded him. Those wizards still deserved fish sticks, even if they didn’t get them from Muggles. Brandon agreed that directing might be a good option, and Viola was surprised to find that they were surprised by how relieved they were because of that. Brandon was the closest thing they had to a friend, it seemed, so it was nice that he approved of their choices. “Is ‘explore my options’ a euphemism for bum around my house and do nothing?” Viola said with a derisive snort. “Honestly, I don’t just want to do nothing. But I also don’t want to bounce around from job to job. Not my style.” Viola, they were beginning to realize, was obsessed with their own personal style, even if they couldn’t explain worth a damn what that style actually was.

Brandon shrugged right back when Viola informed him that some wizards never went into the Muggle world. "Yeah, but do you really want to be making fish sticks for them?" he asked, more in a teasing tone than a disagreeing one. Brandon laughed when they asked what exploring their options meant. "Nope!" he said, "Hanging around a house would not be my way of exploring any options. Doing nothing would be boring. By exploring options, I meant looking around a bit more, finding out what options are there," Brandon suggested, hoping that they would understand him better this time. Still, Viola didn't seem upset so it wasn't a problem.

Brandon raised a good point – even if there were Muggles who couldn’t buy Muggle fish sticks, it wasn’t Viola’s responsibility to get the fish. Someone who was actually passionate about fishing could do that. Or maybe not. Some people never did find a job in their passion, Viola mused. If they were one of those people, what would they do? They didn’t want to think about that. “How the hell am I supposed to explore if I don’t have any money?” Viola asked. Sure, their dad would let them hang around a little longer until they found a job, but exploring seemed very vague and not very productive. After a certain point their dad would probably kick them out if only to force them to figure out how to live on their own.

Brandon laughed at Viola's question. He didn't think she was trying to be funny, but how was he supposed to know what they were supposed to do? He was just giving ideas. Maybe one of his ideas would work for them. "I don't know! Maybe try some of the jobs out while you explore? Maybe that way you can find something you really like instead of just guessing about it." He still really didn't know how they were supposed to do that, but this was the best advice Brandon could come up with. Maybe he'd look up a few job options over the next few days so that if Viola asked again he might be able to help a little. Honestly, he'd never looked up jobs before. Brandon always knew what he wanted to do.

Brandon said that they could try some jobs out an explore. Viola snorted. They probably couldn’t hold down a job for more than a week even if they wanted to. “It’s difficult for me to, you know, do anything that I don’t want to do.” Viola informed Brandon. That would make it difficult to try anything out if they weren’t sure they wanted to do it. “Like talk to people.” They added, to lighten up the conversation a little bit – and maybe make Brandon feel a little better about himself. Viola stood up straighter, turning to Brandon. “You know if you want me to leave, you can just say, right?” Viola asked, just in case Brandon was unsure if he could dismiss them whenever he wanted.
