"Well, what about if you don't know whether or not you want to do it?" He asked curiously. At least when it came to mysteries (or things one hadn't tried yet) there was always a chance that you might like it. He wasn't sure that Viola was that type of person though. He smiled when they hinted that they wouldn't be talking to him if they didn't want to. That was nice to know. Brandon's eyebrows rose at their question. "Is that your way of asking my to tell you to leave?" He was fine either way. Watching others in silence was fun, but having someone to talk to was also enjoyable. "Or do you need to go somewhere and it's just easier if I tell you to go first," he teased. He wasn't sure if Viola would appreciate being teased or not, but it was Brandon's nature, so he just let it go. Hopefully that wouldn't offend them.

Viola shrugged when Brandon asked what happened when they encountered a job that they didn’t know whether or not they wanted to do. “I’ll figure it out pretty fast.” And, in all honesty, they probably weren’t going to like it. “And then my employer will have to find someone to replace me after like, one day of work.” They didn’t want to get a reputation for being a bad employee because they kept trying to do jobs they didn’t like. Brandon started teasing them about their comment about leaving, and Viola tried their hardest not to roll their eyes. “If I wanted to end the conversation, I would end it.” They protested. They weren’t trying to trick him into making them leave or anything – just want the understanding that either could end the conversation to be mutual. “I just wanted to give you the same courtesy, y’know?” They asked.

Now that made sense. Viola knew their mind and personality well enough to know that trying different jobs wouldn't really work. "Maybe you could watch other people do a job and see if it interests you?" That was his last idea though. And it was one of the only ways Viola might be able to really look into new things without actually trying it out. Brandon nodded as they explained themselves. "Yeah, that makes sense," he answered. "But I don't mind talking. Already finished class for today and I really don't have anything to do. That's why I came here. Maybe find something interesting to do. So what have you been up to today?" He asked curiously. If they wanted to leave, that was fine. If not, he'd stay and talk for a while; at least, until Viola got bored.

“Like, on a television?” Viola asked. They had had a TV when their mom was around, but after she left, there wasn’t really a use for the device. “Well, same as you, for the most part.” Viola replied. The foreign kids were all educated together by their headmaster – or headmistress, as Viola believed was the case with Beauxbatons – so all the time Brandon had been in class, Viola had been too. “I ate breakfast. Did some homework in between our classes.” They shrugged. It wasn’t that interesting of a life, if they were honest. “I’ve been thinking some about the Yule Ball.” About Maria. About Roxy. About both. About neither. The two of them had already covered the Yule Ball, though, so Viola wasn’t sure if they had opened any new avenues for their conversation to go down. It was strange – Viola had never, ever talked to someone long enough to run out of material. It was strange, but also kind of nice. It would be nice, at least, if it didn’t involve small talk.

Brandon shrugged when they mentioned a television. "Yeah, you could do that. Or just spend more time in shops or at places that might have a job that interests you. You know, watch carefully so they don't realize that's what you're doing." He really didn't know how any shop owners would react to that, but it would be interesting for sure. He listened to them talk about their day so far and then Viola mentioned the Yule Ball again. "What have you been thinking about?" he asked curiously. He thought that topic was closed a while ago, but if they wanted to talk about it, he was fine with that.

Brandon suggested that Viola could just stand in shops or other places with interesting jobs, and use their people watching skills to help them determine what they thought about the job. Huh – that was actually pretty clever. “When did you get so smart?” Viola said, leaning over to ruffle Brandon’s hair playfully. Brandon then asked what they were thinking about, and Viola grinned at him, winking good-humoredly at him. “Wouldn’t you like to know?” They asked. It wasn’t an answer, but they had to keep up at least somewhat of a mysterious façade if they were going to be taken seriously by the Hogwarts students.

Brandon raised an eyebrow at their question and then smiled mischievously. "I've always been this smart. We just haven't ever talked enough for you to notice," he teased lightly. It was nice having a friend from Durmstrang, finally. Often he didn't feel like he fit in there, but it was nice being able to talk to Viola. They were blunt and interesting and he felt comfortable talking to them. He rolled his eyes when Viola refused to say what they were thinking about the Yule Ball. Why bring something up if you didn't want to talk about it? But he wasn't going to push it. He turned to look in front of him, watching the people file by and talk about the Yule Ball and classwork and whatever else. It was nice to not be alone while doing this. ---end--- @viola
