@fred <3 Elias was shocked to feel Fred apparating them. He had no warning so he was not prepared. Although he had done it before himself, he usually knew it was going to happen. But the unusual feeling in his stomach quickly disappeared when he opened his eyes and saw where Fred had brought them; The train station in Hogsmeade. Elias smiled wide. He had never been here of course. It was quite beautiful, especially with the snow on the ground and all the bustling children. At the board, he glanced around quickly at all of the areas. Elias was a traveler, he loved to travel as did his mother. It would be even better if he could travel with Fred, and maybe all three of them could go somewhere together. Fred's shout made Elias' eyes widened and he turned quickly just to see the train come in. "That's beautiful."

“I always wondered why they painted the trains such bright colors.” Fred said as the train pulled into the station, squeezing Elias’s hand softly, as if to remind both of them that they were still holding hands, and in such a public place, too. “I mean, most of the time you’re in the middle of nowhere, so it doesn’t make much sense to use so much money on paint.” Not that Fred cared. It was much more fun to train watch when the trains were dressed up so nicely. Besides, Fred wasn’t really one to worry about that kind of thing – it wasn’t worth worrying about. “If you could paint a train any color, what color would you paint it?” It was a strange getting-to-know-you question, but Fred wasn’t above strangeness, especially since it kept him from feeling super stereotypical or weird.

@fred <3 "Maybe so they're seen easily from far away." This was just a guess, but Elias thought it was a fairly good one. Trains are dangerous and if you can't see them, you should probably get ready for the worse. But they are beautiful, and Elias loved the bright colors. "I can see that. Although, I know as a young child I loved seeing large things with bright colors, including trains. Maybe they spend all of that money for imagination and wonder." It sounded very wise of Elias to think this way, but as it popped in his head he just spit it all out. Grinning widely, he rose an eyebrow as he stared at the train coming in. "Bright yellow, like a lemon."

Fred nodded when Elias suggested that trains needed to be able to be seen from far away. It would be good if animals or something crossed the train tracks because they couldn’t see or hear the trains coming. “I live for imagination and wonder.” Fred agreed. He was a cashier at a joke shop for goodness’s sake! It was impossible to do that without a little zest for life. It was why his dad had never really grown up, Fred thought. Elias’s answer to Fred’s question made him laugh. “Is yellow your favorite color?” He asked. Either that or it was just the color that seemed the most magical to Elias. “I would paint mine rainbow.” Fred decided. “A little bit of all of the best colors.” He explained. Not to mention the whole pride thing, but mostly just that Fred liked rainbows.

@fred <3 Elias figured that Fred would enjoy his comment on the color of the train. He supposed yellow might be his favorite color, but he never really thought about it. All colors were lovely to Elias, as were trains. "It's one of my favorites, yes. I love green too. But yellow is the best." Unfortunately, Elias didn't grow up with much time for imagination. As a child he was very...different. He always felt sick, especially after his attack by his father. So somehow, having Fred in his life might give Elias that chance to have some wonder in his life. "Rainbow, hmm?" Elias rose an eyebrow and smiled to Fred. "That would be a great train to ride on."

Yellow was one of his favorite colors, as was green. Interesting. Fred wasn’t sure if he was trying to psychoanalyze Elias or if he had it worse than he thought, because he had actually thought that someone’s favorite colors were interesting. Ugh. He had joked with Roxy that romanticism was a disease, but he was beginning to think that maybe there was actually something behind that theory, because he was acting different. It wasn’t necessarily a bad different, but it was…different. “Okay, how about this: when you win the Triwizard Tournament, you can use the money you get from winning to buy a train, and our project for the summer can be to paint it rainbow.” Fred smirked. “And then we can both ride on the rainbow train together.” This was definitely a euphemism for something, but Fred didn’t know what that was. He definitely didn’t want to think about it, though. Gross.

@fred <3 Fred definitely had a wild imagination. Him, winning the Tournament? That wasn't going to happen. If it did, that would be a miracle, something that would only happen in his, get this, imagination. But it did make him feel good to think Fred had such a good vibe for him. "Thank you, Fred, but I won't win. It will probably be Anna or Emile. There's no way I'm going to win after that first Task." It had been a hard one, and an even more embarrassing one. "Even if I did win, I'd give most of the money to my mother...she deserves much more than I could ever give her." Raising him on her own from 17 was a big deal, and she worked constantly to provide for him. Elias loved her dearly. "Although, riding the rainbow train seems fun." A small snort escaped from Elias, but he tried to cover it up with a cough.

“I’m pretty sure I’m not supposed to be telling you this, but I don’t think that Anna thinks she’s going to win, either.” Fred said, kicking at the ground at his feet to seem more casual. It was strange, being related to one of the Champions and being on a date with another. But Fred’s life was made for strange, so he wasn’t going to think too much of it. “I think Émile’s head is too far up his own backside to win, but that’s just me.” And Fred would rather that the French boy not win, when everything was said and done. He seemed to have a big enough ego already. Elias said that he’d give most of his winnings to his mother, and Fred lifted his shoulder in a shrug. “So I start saving a little of my money from working, and it takes me a decade or two to buy a train. That’s fine, too.” It wasn’t like Fred could be mad at Elias for wanting to do something nice for his mum. Fred had always been closer to his dad, so he couldn’t really see it, but. “Oi! No laughing at my rainbow train!” Fred said, shoving his shoulder into Elias’s playfully.

@fred <3 Elias shook his head. "I don't know why she doesn't think she might win, she's doing great so far, much better than I did. Emile had absolutely no difficulty in this first task, it was actually super aggravating." The guy got through without even a scratch mark, maybe some frost bite but that was easily taken care of. "It might be, but that also be a good trait to have. He's overly optimistic about himself, so it might make it preform better." Elias was just a nervous wreck about this entire Tournament; he hadn't expected to be chosen as Champion so he hadn't prepared as much as he should have. "You can definitely do that, that's a good goal to have, Fred. But you'll need to buy quite a bit of paint as well." Elias laughed, and laughed louder when Fred shoved his shoulder. Elias stuck his tongue out and shoved him back, grinning widely.

“I think it’s natural to doubt your abilities, especially when the stakes are this high.” Fred said with a shrug. “Being nervous just shows that it’s important to you, and that you care about how you do.” It was true that not doing well probably wasn’t the best feeling in the world, though, especially since he had bene picked specifically for that purpose. There was always the worry that if one of his other classmates had been made Champion their school would be doing much better in the competition. Fred furrowed his eyebrows when Elias said that he thought that Émile’s cockiness was a good trait to have. He definitely didn’t agree with that. As someone who was cocky, he definitely knew that it probably would have been better if someone remembered to knock him down a few pegs every once in a while. Not that he was going to tell anyone that, but… “Eh, when my dad retires or kicks the bucket, I’ll being paid more than just a cashier’s salary.” It would be easier to buy a train and paint when he wasn’t just living on a skimpy salary.

@fred <3 Elias nodded. That was all true. His nerves, and even Anna's were going to occur whether they wanted them to happen or not. Emile, on the other hand, probably was not nervous in any way. At least, that's the way he presented himself. Like he knew he was going to win already. "I definitely care, but I just want to do better. I wish they gave us some clue to these things, so that we could actually prepare somewhat for it instead of just being thrown in. But...I suppose that's the point." Elias watched as Fred's eyebrows furrowed and he smiled, but his smile was soon turned into a look of surprise. "Well let's hope your dad only retires, and doesn't 'kick the bucket'." That wasn't something he'd ever be able to say about his mother, and he was shocked that Fred did, even if he was just kidding.

Fred nodded when Elias said that he cared. Of course he cared, right. And wanting to do better was pretty much the default state of humanity, which was also the way they got themselves into most of their trouble, as far as Fred was concerned. “I think that part of the challenge isn’t not preparing, but trying to puzzle out what you’re supposed to be preparing for.” Fred said with a shrug. He was beginning to realize that it was really, really difficult for him to talk about the Tournament with Elias. He didn’t want to screw Anna over by saying something he shouldn’t, but he also wanted to help Elias, because the Tournament seemed really important to him. The easiest thing to do was change the subject, and talking about his dad’s unfortunate demise was an easy way to do that. “I'm not sure my dad would not be able just to retire.” Fred explained. “The shop was his first child, not me.” He raised the hand that wasn’t holding Elias’s, and began chewing nervously on the knuckle of his thumb. “It – uh…” He sighed. “It’s something he did with his brother. My dead uncle, you know. I’m not sure if he’d ever be able to give that up voluntarily.” Hence why Fred was convinced his dad would retire only by dying.

@fred <3 Elias nodded, "That's right. It's just hard to puzzle it out without any type of clues or anything." He supposed that was the point. There were so many different things that could happen in the tasks, and to try to prepare for all of them seemed impossible. Elias had studied the other tournaments that had occurred in the past, and while the tasks were all completely different, it was just a lot. But, he did sign up for it and he did need to push on no matter how hard it became. Fred began talking about his dad and the shop, and Elias watched him, his eyes sympathetic. He'd never understand Fred's way of life and family, just like Fred would never understand his. But it helped to try to understand and be there for him. A small squeeze of the hand he was holding and a smile, Elias finally spoke, "You never know, people surprise us sometimes."

Fred nodded. “It’s like trying to complete a puzzle without all the pieces.” He said. In fact, it was like trying to complete a puzzle without any of the pieces – it was near impossible, especially when you didn’t even know what picture the puzzle was supposed to be in in the first place. Fred shrugged when Elias said that people surprised them sometimes. That was true, but in hindsight, it seemed like event he biggest of surprises were expected. Fred had spent a lot of time analyzing his dead, trying to figure out what was going on in his head, trying to figure out if they were as alike as everyone painted them to be. He liked to think that he had a good understanding of his father and who he was, and giving up the joke shop just wasn’t who he was. “Did I surprise you?” Fred asked Elias, hoping to steer the conversation in a different direction so that he wouldn’t be left thinking morbid thoughts about his father.

@fred <3 Elias liked that analogy. Like a puzzle. That was probably the best way to describe it. He liked puzzles, but he liked ones where he knew what he was supposed to be making, knew what he was supposed to be putting together. When it comes to the tournament, and the tasks necessary to complete, there was no picture. Nothing visible for Elias to go off of. Just books and his own thoughts. Fred's voice brought his thoughts back to the present, and not what the future could hold. He smiled gently and shrugged, putting his free hand into the pocket of his jeans. "Possibly. But I kind of felt like you were either flirting or had feelings. I just couldn't decipher which."
