Elias said that Fred had only possibly surprised him, and the older boy just shook his head. “Surprise, it was both.” Fred said with a snort, to lighten the mood a little. “I don’t know. This whole gay thing has made me realize that you have to be really, really forward with your flirting, otherwise guys just think you’re being nice or something.” Fred had learned that after asking many, many straight guys on dates and having them tell him that they hadn’t even realized that he was gay. By many, Fred meant like three, but still, it was embarrassing! And he had adapted his flirting tactics so that he’d have more than a snowball’s chance in hell at getting a boyfriend. "You surprised me." Fred added nonchalantly.

@fred <3 Elias smiled at Fred as he responded. He wasn't really sure how to flirt, or if it depended on how much you flirted or who you flirted with. This was all very confusing for him, and he'd have to make note to speak with Maria again on how to date and do all of this. She gave him great advice on how to find who he was, and it helped. Now she'd have to help him with even more and Elias was sure she'd love to. The next three words out of Fred's mouth made Elias raise his eyebrows. "Did I?" He tilted his head, the curls on his head falling over his shoulder slightly.

Fred shrugged when Elias asked if he had really surprised Fred. “Would I have said so if you hadn’t?” He asked rhetorically. Then, expecting that Elias would ask what exactly about him had surprised Fred, the older boy launched into his explanation. “I was surprised that you had answered the letter. You know, I was kind of expecting that whoever got the stuff would just take it and use it, maybe send a thank you letter, but not much more.” Fred swallowed, and then continued. “And you surprised me when I met you. Just…the way you were.” It was difficult to explain, but Elias had just been…different. And sure, part of that had been Fred’s expectations for what someone with the last name Greyback would be like, but it was one of those times when it was nice to be surprised. “And you surprised me when you said that you liked me, too.” Fred had been expecting rejection, so to have Elias accept his advances instead was the best surprise of all.

@fred <3 "You never know." He responded in the same tone Fred had used. Elias wasn't really one to surprise people, so to be heard that was surprising in itself. Especially from Fred Weasley. But he thankfully went on in explanation, which confused Elias even more. Maybe it was the different types of places they grew up, but he was curious as to why people here didn't respond to letters? Or, as Fred said, just said thank you. "I'd have found myself disrespectful if I hadn't responded in the way I did." He smiled as Fred continued, and nodded his head. "Did you expect me to be some crazy wolf guy, barring my teeth?" He laughed quietly, running his fingers through his long hair. He felt like that's what he looked like anyways, at least sometimes. Especially when he woke up in the morning. "Well I think that last surprise is a good one."

Fred chuckled when Elias said he would have felt respectful not responding. “It felt weird to write that letter, you know. Formality isn’t really my thing.” As Elias had probably been able to tell by now. When he asked if Fred thought he was going to be a wolf-man, Fred laughed out loud. “No, not really.” Fred answered with a smile and shrug. He had expected Elias to be civil, at least. “My cousin dated your sister, Jamie, for a while. I never really spoke to her, but she seemed nice.” As far as he knew, Harper had broken up with Elias’s half-sister, so things wouldn’t be weird on that front. How strange would it be for someone to be both your cousin and your sister? Fred smiled when Elias said that the last surprise was a good one. “I think it was, too.” He said, squeezing Elias’s hand. “Who knows? Maybe we’ll get to surprise each other for a long time yet.” No matter which way they ended – as friends or as lovers, though Fred hoped for the latter – the Gryffindor wanted to continue to surprise and be surprised by Elias Greyback.

@fred <3 "Well it felt very formal, you haven't got anything to worry about." Elias grinned. He didn't think the owl was bad, it was actually worded very nicely and it definitely made Fred seem much older than what he actually was. But he was glad that Fred didn't think of him as some crazy werewolf teenager. That wasn't what he wanted, and it wasn't what he wanted anyone to think of him in general. Elias squeezed his hand back and nodded his head. "Well I hope we do. Surprises are my specialty."

Elias said that Fred’s letter had sounded formal, and Fred gave him an easy-going smile. He had had some help in getting his letter sounding the way it did (mostly from books on how to write good letters, which were ridiculous), so he couldn’t take all the credit, but at least it proved that he had a little bit of a head on his shoulders, when he bothered to try and think. “I’ll put that to the test.” Fred said teasingly. He wasn’t sure how he could test someone’s ability to surprise, but he’d find a way. He always did.
@jill6 (do you wanna end this and we can do something for them in jan?)
