Parvati seemed nervous about pouring the tea - hands shaking, reaching out for support just in case - but she seemed a bit steadier after she had. Padma accepted hers and took a sip while Parvati poured her own. "What's next," Parvati asked, and Padma knew she needed an answer, but she didn't quite have one yet. She sipped her tea again, and thought for another silent moment before she formulated a plan. "First, let's figure out who needs to know what. Then we'll figure out how to tell them." She didn't expect it to be a long list. Padma was very much on the side of tell them all to mind their own business, but if Parvati needed some time, then maybe Neville needed to know. Padma's nephews didn't need to know - probably didn't want to know - about their mother's relationships. Ernie had forfeited his rights to care. And the general public - well. If they really needed to know something, and Padma was quite sure they didn't, Parvati and Marcus had bonded over cheating spouses and were simply relieved to have someone to talk to who understood that pain. parvati patil macmillan

Parvati waited as her sister sipped her tea. She knew that she couldn't rush Padma, but now that she was ready to start doing what she needed to do—or, at a minimum, ready to entertain the idea of being ready—she wanted to get it done and over with.
“First,” began Padma after her silence, “let's figure out who needs to know what. Then we'll figure out how to tell them.”
Well… “Neville first,” Parvati supposed. It made sense to her that he should be the first priority. He was Headmaster, and he was also in the Order—not to mention that he was probably the other member of school staff with whom she was closest. “To know why I've been an absolute fool.” And why she would be something of a mess while she grieved, too, she assumed. “I'd like to avoid being sacked,” she said, no longer mincing her words. There was no humor in her voice as she said it. The last thing that she needed was to lose her job, on top of everything else.
That brought her to the second person to whom she'd need to apologize. “And then Harry.” He at least needed to know that she had never put the Order at risk. That would be difficult for him to believe, she guessed, but she needed to communicate openly with him, just the same. “He should know.” Parvati imagined that he would probably hate her afterwards, but she wanted him to understand that she hadn't meant any harm to anyone.
“So that's… my job and the Order, at least,” she thought aloud after taking a sip of tea. Those two aspects of her life seemed most critical. “And I'll only tell my boys if they ask,” she decided, not seeing the sense in making things even more awkward than they were already if she didn't have to. She looked to her sister for confirmation that her thinking was on the right track.

Parvati said she needed to tell Neville first, then Harry. Her job and the Order, and the boys if they asked. Padma didn't think the boys would ask, so they were thinking on the same lines. She nodded and smiled slightly at her sister's glance towards her. "Neville first," she agreed. And what did Neville need to know? As a friend, as a colleague, as her boss, it could be so many different things. But Parvati was worried about her job first and foremost, so Padma assumed the last of those. Probably the hardest. "Neville needs to know that you were seeing the parent of some of your students for what, a month?" Padma was sure it hadn't been long. She remembered her sister lamenting that she would never have anyone again, and that was just November. "That he died, and that you need a few days to grieve what was and what might have been." Parvati wasn't mincing her words, and neither was Padma. This was one of those Muggle bandages - best ripped off quickly, even if it hurt. parvati patil macmillan

Her sister agreed that bringing the matter to Neville's attention was the first priority, which made that step easy enough. Padma was able to think of what actually needed to be said, too. “Neville needs to know that you were seeing the parent of some of your students for what, a month?”
Parvati thought back on it. It was something like that—more or less—depending upon how one wanted to define “seeing”. Saying that it had been a month was probably the best best way to put it. “About a month,” she answered her sister. They had only done anything of substance on Christmas night.
“That he died, and that you need a few days to grieve what was and what might have been.”
Padma had to go and remind her of that. Chewing her lip, Parvati decided to take a sip of her tea. “I didn't put any sugar in,” she commented. She hadn't noticed it at first. (Truly, she was beginning to hope that Padma could just forge her handwriting on a piece of parchment so that it would be done with, but that wasn't realistic.)
“And then Harry?” she questioned, sounding more concerned. “He'll know it was him…” There wouldn't be much of a process of elimination there. “The Wizengamot,” Parvati explained. And if Harry jumped to conclusions about Marcus… “He… didn't know him like I did.”

Parvati agreed that it had been about a month. That was all they needed to tell Neville. He could work out whatever else he needed to on his own, or ask when the wounds weren't quite so deep. "Good. Then that's one down.""I don't mind it without sugar," she assured her sister. So many different kinds of tea, over the years. She'd adjusted to a lot. And Padma really didn't want her Parvati to be worrying about that. Not when it didn't matter. Not when there were things that mattered so much more. But Parvati was far more worried about Harry's reaction. Padma wasn't really. If he was worried about a potential security leak for the Order, then they would need to have a long hard conversation about Ernest Macmillan, and Padma would do that herself and not pull any punches. "Harry will know, yes, but..." how could she say that Harry wouldn't care? She couldn't, not when Padma knew without a doubt that he would care. Marcus Flint did not have a good reputation. But Harry had known Parvati since their school days. "He'll understand." Parvati may not have made the best choice, but the heart does that sometimes, and she was still hurting from what Ernie had done. "He'll trust that you didn't tell him anything you shouldn't have." She took another sip of her tea, then stood to fetch some parchment, a quill, and an inkpot. "Let's get this done," she said. parvati patil macmillan

With everything to do with her letter to Neville sorted out, they had moved on to discuss the letter to Harry. Padma seemed relaxed about it, which Parvati found slightly strange for her sister, but she chalked it up to her own not thinking clearly. “Harry will know, yes, but…”
Parvati waited.
“He'll understand.”
He would understand, Parvati thought. He would have to.
“He'll trust that you didn't tell him anything you shouldn't have.”
And she hadn't. It had never been anything more than that one night, in the grand scheme of things. So why did she feel so upset over it?
Padma was the one to grab the writing supplies—some parchment, a quill, and an inkpot, and Parvati was thankful that her way of organizing things was so predictable. “Let's get this done.”
“Thanks,” Parvati told her. She took the quill in her hand, slowly dipped it into the ink, and brought it to the parchment. With a few strokes, she began the first letter. It would either look like someone or something had cursed her handwriting or like she was using a Quick-Quotes Quill, and Parvati wasn't sure which would be worse.
@padma OOC: Do you want to wrap this one up now?

With what to tell Harry and Neville decided, Parvati took up the quill and began to write. It wouldn't win prizes for elegance, but she was writing, and Padma was relieved. It was a shock, and Parvati needed to grieve, but she was already starting to move forward. That was the part Padma knew best, and she laid her hand on her sister's knee in silent support. She was here for her sister, whatever she needed. She always would be. parvati patil macmillanaaaaaand we're done
