Louis grinned; Georgie had never asked him before if he could speak French, so he hadn’t divulged that little secret. He wanted their relationship to have some surprises after all, even if another language wasn’t a huge surprise due to his mothers heritage. “My mum took me to France, just her and me while Vic and Dom were at school and I hadn’t gone off to Hogwarts yet. We spent about two weeks traveling around the whole country and I got a lot of opportunities to speak it. We try to visit her parents every year, but last year….well, complications prevented us from going, with Vic as the Minister and Dom…” Louis trailed off, looking a little sad. His parents had felt it best to keep everyone home for as much as possible after Victoire became Minister of Magic and Dominique lost one of her best friends (and Louis was quite sure her new boyfriend) to the Kidnappings of April Fools Day. It had made sense of course, but Louis hoped his sister would be eager to travel this summer because his wanderlust was kicking in immensely.
At Georgie’s challenge, Louis couldn’t help but laugh. “Zac would kill me if he knew I tried it; that’s how he broke his leg this summer, sledding down a sand dune on his hands,” he told her, still chuckling lightly. Of course at the time it had been very serious as they had to take his friend to Saint Mungos for recovery, but in the end he had healed and everyone could laugh about it now. “But, madamoiselle, challenge accepted,” he added, giving her a short bow before racing up to the top of the hill. He studied his sled carefully and stretched out his arms, shaking them out to get them loose and warm. He pitched forward into a handstand, his legs as straight up into the air as he could get as he nudged the sled forward, making sure to aim for the snowbank he had spotted near the bottom of the hill as a just in case. The sledding excursion went pretty well until the end, when Louis felt his balance toppling. Knowing he was going to fall, he pitched himself forward into a ball and rolled down the hill, coming to a stop on his bottom and laughed as the sled hit the small of his back. “So….yes and no,” he affirmed to Georgie, grinning to let her know he was okay.

Georgie listened with rapt attention when Louis told his story about going to France with his mother. That sounded amazing. She wondered if her parents would have ever done that sort of thing for her, when Lance went off to school. If they had been around, that was. Now they didn’t have the chance, and from what Georgie had gathered, money was still more than a little tight due to her father’s funeral and living on only one income. “I’m sorry you didn’t get to go.” Georgie said softly. She knew that Louis wouldn’t ever really complain about it, especially since there were several good reasons to keep his family from travelling, but it was still disappointing not to do something like that. “I haven’t seen my grandparents since we left America.” Georgie admitted. That was kind of to be expected, since she and Lance had lived an ocean and a world away, being magical where their grandparents were Muggle. That had been the whole reason they had gotten into this situation in the first place – their grandparents not thinking that they were fit to raise two magical children, despite having raised one before. For all Georgie knew, her parents’ parents had passed away, too. Georgie didn’t want to dwell on bad thoughts, though, because Louis was about to do something impressive.
“I believe in you!” Georgie called as Louis raced up the hill. She hoped that he was a better gymnast than Isaac, and wouldn’t end up breaking a bone just to fulfill one of her challenges. That would be awkward to explain to the nurses…Georgie watched carefully as Louis studied his sled, and then pitched himself into a handstand. The Hufflepuff saw the Gryffindor begin to topple, and covered her mouth as she watched, horrified, as he curled himself into a ball. At the end of it, though, he seemed to be okay, and Georgie let out a sigh of relief. “Okay, maybe don’t do that again.” She said, still feeling a little pale as she went to offer Louis a hand up. “Do you have a challenge for me?” She decided to ask, since she had gotten to request something of him.

Louis shrugged and squeezed his girlfriend's shoulder lightly. “It’s alright, it’ll just be all that much easier to guilt her into taking you with me when we go next time!” he said brightly, then blushed slightly. He didn’t want to overtake any summer plans Georgie may have with her mother and brother, but he also knew he could probably convince his mother to take the both of them to the South of France, with Dominique graduating and possibly leaving the house. It would be a fun trip; there was plenty to do both in and out of the water, so Georgie wouldn’t have to go in the sea. “You would love the sound the waves make as they crash onto the stones of the beaches - and I promise you don’t have to get all that close to the water to hear it,” he mentioned, almost being able to feel the warm Mediterranean sun on his face and that sound in his ears as he remembered it.
After sliding down the mountain, he noticed that Georgie’s face was rather pale, and he realized his tumble had caused some concern. “Don’t worry G, I’m alright,” he confirmed, bending all his limbs to show that he was not in any sort of danger of lasting injury. He paused, his face scrunched up in thought as he began to think of a challenge for her, one that would be entertaining for him to watch but not putting her into any risk of injury. Finally, he snapped his fingers, thinking of something. “Right, you need to take the sled up to the hill and spin your way down. Best way to do it is to get a bit of a running start,” he instructed. He nudged her gently with a grin. “Go on then!” he exclaimed.

Georgie smiled at Louis when he said that it would be easier to guilt his mother into taking her to France with them the next time they went. Louis blushed a little at that, and Georgie’s cheeks flushed in an automatic response, though she didn’t know what she had to be embarrassed about. “At least when we’re in France I won’t be the only one with a funny accent.” Georgie teased. Sometimes she forgot that she spoke differently from practically everyone else in school – with the exception of her brother, of course – so going someplace where everyone she was travelling with would speak differently from the locals was a refreshing thought. Louis mentioned something about waves crashing against the shore, and Georgie closed her eyes, already half able to hear the sound in between the words Louis was speaking. “Are there any seashells there? I’ve always wants to collect some, but the beaches we went to when I was a kid never had many.” And when she was living in the orphanage, it was a bad idea to bring back anything that could be stolen, or would take up too much extra space, so when they had ventured out to beaches, Georgie was never able to keep what she found.
“I like you a lot better when you’re not broken, Louis Weasley.” Georgie said, putting on her best mother’s voice to hide how scared she had been to see his tumble. It was all in the past now, though, and they were already forging ahead, with Louis giving Georgie instructions to spin down the hill on the sled. He suggested a running start, and Georgie nodded, trying to mentally plan where to put her feet so that she could keep spinning. Once she got to the top of the hill, though, she stopped thinking, and started doing. It wasn’t hard to keep spinning once she was launching herself down the hill, and Georgie kept her arms crossed over her chest tightly like an ice skater’s to keep her speed from decreasing. Eventually the sled stopped, but Georgie just kept spinning, and spinning, and spinning… Right into Louis’s arms.

Louis laughed loudly at Georgie’s accent comment. Sure, she and Lance stood out a bit with their Southern accents, but he’d spent so much time with her that he barely noticed it anymore. He supposed that to some of the locals in Nice her accent would be more pronounced, but in the summertime there were tourists in abundance from all parts of the globe, the United States included. “Yeah there are seashells; there are also some of the smoothest rocks imaginable. Southern France is pretty eclectic when it comes to its beaches, they have both rocky and sandy ones. I think we can manage to find you a beach and load you up with seashells,” he said, nudging her teasingly. He himself was not a huge fan of the rocky beaches, as it made it difficult to run into and out of the sea, so he preferred the sandy beaches. “Maybe I can convince you to go parasailing with me, without the customary dip into the water,” he suggested, adding in the last bit so Georgie wouldn’t have to get wet if she didn’t want to. It was one of his personal favorite beachside activities, so hopefully she’d agree. Louis watched as his girlfriend made her way to the top of the hill; he could tell that on the way up she was getting into her head too much, and was pleased to see the clear expression on her face as she launched herself down the hill towards him. Being the good boyfriend, Louis caught her in his arms and spun her around once with a laugh. “Careful there Miss Dizzy,” he told her, planting a kiss on her cheek as he steadied her. He knew from experience that looking around too quickly after so much spinning could cause some dizziness or fainting. He smiled down at her. “What did you think?” he asked excitedly.

Georgie listened, enraptured, when Louis described the beaches in France. She hadn’t really had the money to travel outside of the country, so anything beyond her little corner of the world (and the place where she grew up) seemed horribly exotic, even though France was easily reachable, even for Muggles. Even now that her mother had returned, the chances that they were going to get to go on a vacation anytime soon were near zero, since they were living on one income (and a small one, at that) since her father’s death. Running away with Louis, and not having to worry about what her mother thought, or the guilt of how much the trip would cost her family, felt like a dream come true. “It won’t take that much convincing.” Georgie told Louis with a laugh. “There must be some sort of potion that makes you waterproof, right?” Even if it was temporary, a potion would let her enjoy parasailing without the fear of accidentally getting wet. Georgie couldn’t believe that she hadn’t thought of something like that before.
After careening down the hill, it took Georgie longer than she had thought it would to regain her balance. Louis told her to be careful, at which Georgie just laughed. Neither of them were careful people, and that was part of the reason they worked so well together. When Louis asked what she thought, Georgie laughed again. “I think that it’s a good thing that I have a strong stomach.” She informed him. A lesser person might have lost their lunch onto the snow, and that would not have been fun at all. “But it was fun!” She added, just in case Louis took her comment as meaning that she hadn’t enjoyed her spinning down the hill. “If only we had had snow in South Carolina. I would be much better at that by now.” Georgie said. She was a little behind the learning curve when it came to snow sports due to the constant warmth of her first home.

Louis was glad Georgie thought the sledding tricks were fun, and laughed at her stomach comment. “Yeah probably for the best we didn’t eat before this,” he agreed with a smile. It would go in a complete 180 if they had had full stomachs and the snow would likely no longer be white. “If you had snow in South Carolina would the residents even know what to do?” he asked with a slight chuckle. His Muggle friend had mentioned his relatives in Southern Italy panicked the first time they saw snow; if it snowed somewhere that almost never got it, he wondered what sort of chaos would be caused. “There will be no snow in Southern France when we go I promise,” he added with a slight chuckle. “And I’m sure there’s a potion to make oneself waterproof or a charm; my mum would know for sure so I’ll ask next time I write home,” he told her, though he could look it up himself obviously in the library. His mother was very knowledgable about those sort of things, and he liked going to her with questions.
Louis glanced back up the hill and took a quick look at his watch to see how they were doing on time. Fortunately, they had enough time for one more run plus a nice hearty lunch at the Three Broomsticks after to fill their stomachs. “Shall we go once more, but this time together?” he suggested, holding out his hand to her. He figured she’d want to, but wanted to give her the option to opt out in case she was worried about two people fitting on one sled.

Georgie chuckled when Louis asked if the people in South Carolina would have known what to do if they got any snow. “I don’t think that they would.” She admitted, not at all sheepish about it. She doubted that anyone in London would know what to do if there was a hurricane, so it wasn’t like the people in her hometown were stupid – they just weren’t prepared to handle things that they didn’t know about, just like everyone else. Louis promised a lack of snow in Southern France, and Georgie laughed again. “I would be a little worried if there was.” That would be a weather anomaly, and whenever those happened it seemed like the Ministry called every wizard in the vicinity for questioning, in case it had been a weather charm gone wrong. Georgie didn’t feel like being interrogated. “We could also ask Professor Constantine.” Georgie suggested. She wasn’t the closest with the Potions professor, but it seemed like all of the instructors at Hogwarts were eager to help when students showed an interest in their subject outside of the scope of class. Granted, this was an interest with selfish motivations, so the Hufflepuff wasn’t sure if she’d get a warm reception, but it was worth a shot, and was honestly probably quicker than waiting for an owl from Louis’s mother to return.
Louis suggested going down the hill one more time, together, and Georgie nodded. It was probably about time for them to get some food before heading back to the castle, but she could always spare the extra time for one more sledding run, especially since she didn’t know when she’d be able to see Louis next. When it got to be February and March she was going to have to spend more time studying for her O.W.L.s. “Let’s go!” Georgie said, plowing her way up the hill so as not to waste any time. “Are we going to do anything special?” She asked, wondering if they were going to continue their extreme sledding run or just enjoy being together.

Louis nodded in assent; he had completely forgotten about the Potions professor if he was completely honest, but he didn't take Potions after all so his first thought going to his mother was natural for him. "We can go together if you want?" Louis asked her; he didn't know how close she was to the Potions professor, but if it made her more comfortable to have someone with her, he would be happy to. "If there was snow in Southern France in July, I think we'd be seeing the End of Days happen," he joked, gesturing to the vast snowfall as they climbed up the mountain together.
Louis paused, pretending to think about the question Georgie posed. In fact, he already had an idea in mind, and he hoped his girlfriend didn't freak out too much. "Actually..." he said, grinning wickedly. He scooped her up in his arms and plopped down on the sled, whooping as it spun around, taking them down the hill at quite a speed. They came to a stop and Louis couldn't stop laughing, squeezing her tightly and planting a kiss on her cheek. "Alright my dearest Seer, let's See what we can do for a hot lunch," he said, adding in the pun for effect.

Georgie nodded when Louis suggested they go to visit Professor Constantine together; as a rule, she didn’t have a good relationship with her professors, so having some emotional support – even from someone who didn’t know the Potions professor whatsoever would be nice. After hiking up the hill for their one last hurrah, Georgie was expecting Louis to come up with some crazy thing that they could do on their way down. It seemed he had already thought of something, though, because he scooped her up in his arms without a second of hesitation. Georgie barely had time to process it before they were down the hill. Louis’s laughter filled the air, and Georgie couldn’t help but join him in his mirth. This was nice. This was normal. This was happy, and everyone knew that Georgie needed a bit more happy in her life. After they were able to stop their giggles, Louis kissed her, and Georgie smiled widely at him. Yup, definitely happy. He made some pun about seeing, and Georgie rolled her eyes, but that didn’t stop her from taking his hand and leading them into Hogsmeade for a nice lunch to end their winter adventure.
